Comic #758: Pool of Mixed Monstrosities (Patreon)

I'm not sure how many will get this one, given that it requires knowledge of a minor event in game. There is a pool in Maldraxxus that summons different rares depending on the ratio of colors of goo that you collect from mobs around the area. Red is the easiest to acquire, and thus most people toss in reds to complete their quest and move on. This causes red to fill up very quickly, much to the annoyance of those trying to summon specific rares.

The original plan for this comic had a lot more dialogue, and had Donald instead of Nyte. Here was the original text for the first 2 panels that I quickly abandoned:

Donald: Ooh! What is that pool!NPC: Oh! I’m so glad you asked!

NPC: So basically, there are three potion colors you can collect. Red goo from red mobs, blue goo from blue mobs, and yellow goo from yellow mobs. Once you’ve collected a total of 30 goos into the pool, a creature will spawn! The ratio of colors determine the-

I had a few options for where to go next. The pool would have been at 28, like in the final comic, Donald would have interrupted him and yelled that he got some red, and dozens of people would descend on the red goo to add more, etc.

The dialogue was basically just exposition to explain the mechanic to readers who weren't familiar with it. In the end I decided that pre-explaining a mechanic wouldn't really help to make the comic any funnier to those who haven't done any of the pool mixing. Instead it would just detract from the joke for those who understood.
