Comic #812: What is to Come (Patreon)

This is a play on the Jailer's Fall final raid cinematic from earlier this week. As soon as I watched the cinematic, I knew exactly what the first 3 panels of this comic were going to be. Figuring out the final panel took me FOREVER. I could not think of a good enough joke.

At first I thought of showing Nomi, but I already made that joke in #666. I considered having a panel with NPCs like kobolds or murlocs talking to each other, and saying things like "What if we just stopped leashing?" I also considered a panel showing repair NPCs going on strike.

I even considered reversing the setup and punchline, so I could have a few panels of kobolds or murlocs talking about their plans, and then it would cut to the jailer's face from panel 2 saying "A COSMOS DIVIDED WILL NOT SURVIVE WHAT IS TO COME". In hindsight, maybe this would have been better, but I worried the jailer out of context like that wouldn't be as funny.

In the end I decided to create my own splash-page for a kobold expansion. And let me tell you, it was not easy to put together that final panel. I thought of so many versions of this comic that I can't even tell in the end if it landed well. So funny or not, at least I put in some effort!
