I have a history of keeping the music/videos I'm working on a secret until the very last moment, when they're dropped here on patreon. Just purely out of curiosity, is this a thing that is fun for you, or would you rather know what's going on as things are developing?

I love that you keep them secret. I don't like spoilers for movies or TV shows, or books, and that extends to your projects too! Makes for an extra fun surprise when you release it, for me. I guess you could mix it up once in a while. Spill the song title every now and again...we still won't know exactly what's coming. ;) Don't like cheese though. You can keep that for yourself.

I think the game is fun. It's fun to get hints. It's fun to try to figure it out. It's like reading a mystery. If it's too easy to guess, that's less satisfying, but if there was no way you could have guessed, that's less fun too. With a *huge* caveat this is an entirely extra thing on top of your already very satisfying content, it is more exciting to have some inkling. But also, variety is nice, so if you ever want to just tell us everything from the beginning, I would probably love that too 😁

Little hints like a picture from the video, a comment about your progress so far, a comment about how you feel about your arrangement, a DAW picture... stuff like that. Little teasers to hype us up. That's fun!

Cheese is my favorite food group. However, I'm easy to please. I love knowing *everything* because it's part of who I am. I like to learn, I like to understand the why, and I feel I enjoy covers more if I'm already, and especially recently, up to date with the originals and other covers. BUT I love little teasers because they give me tiny bits of info and then I can try and work out other guesses from those tiny bits, which is like a puzzle and I *love* puzzles. AND finally at the end of the day I'm actually a very patient person, so I completely don't mind waiting for things either, if you want to keep all your secrets! You do you, I'm just along for the ride.

Good surprises are fantastic - and yours have been great surprises so far, so that's my pick. Cheese was a close second, though - but then I remembered blue cheese is cheese too, and that is NOT a winner in my book. I like hearing about the process, but for me, it's fine after the release - then there's just more to look forward to. So I like the mystery!

Surprises are good. Teasers are good. Cheese is good. Wait, do you have a cheesy song in the works??? :D Seriously, though, I kinda like that sometimes you give us little clues and sometimes you keep us completely in the dark. Keeps us on our toes!

Cheese answer, which for me means I like variety. I love puzzles and making guesses, which usually requires some teasers so we have *something* to go on. Sometimes not knowing what the song is until you tell us in the preamble video is really fun, but I also like it when you straight up tell us things well in advance too, so I have time to anticipate, look up the original, etc. Ideally, vary it up. I have a special fondness for December 28-30th, 2021. You sent a teaser for 3 days leading up to the Patreon release of Shenandoah, and two teasers before the release day of. You had me on pins and needles the whole day in anticipation and yet the guesses on what the project was was completely wrong. Obviously you don't need to do something elaborate every time, but I still remember that day vividly in my mind because of you.

I'm old. When I was growing up, the only cheese we could afford was Velveeta. That led to a permanent love/"what the crap is that?", relationship with cheese. And, as I said, I am old - so whatever makes you happiest is fine by me.

I couldn't agree with this more. I definitely feel that there is a balance between knowing too much to make guesses, and the opposite end of where you didn't know there was anything to guess in the first place. The sweet spot is in the middle when you know that *something* is coming and the general vibe, but there is still a lot to talk about and make guesses.

This is tough for me. I like surprises, but I also like knowing what's coming. The little clues you give sometimes are so enticing. I love the mystery and trying to figure out what it is. On the other hand, if I know ahead of time and it's a song I like, I'd get really, really excited about it, but if it's a song that I don't like, I won't be excited at all and may feel just blah for the month until the song is released. I guess you could mix it up a little- one month, tell us; the next month, don't. Since I'm so conflicted about this, I voted for cheese. P.S. It wouldn't let me vote on my PC. I had to vote through the app. I don't know if it's a me problem or a Patreon problem.

I want to add in that teasers can still go hand in hand with giving away secrets. My second most fondly remembered anticipation period was with Way Down. You started the teasers with that one two weeks in advance with the album cover art, explicitly giving us the title and giving us a chance to hear the original. then there were still great BTS teasers that got us all talking about the costuming and the chair stunt. So when I mean vary it up, I really enjoy it both ways.

Okay, first, the secret of the work in progress. Second, I enjoy the little teasers, which make my brain 🧠 send smoke signals out from the turning gear ⚙️ box in there. (Sometimes, it gets replaced with hampsters on their exercise wheels until more gears get replaced.) Third, the GRAND DEBUT to the Patreon fans, followed by a BTS video of how it all comes together. I love it all while munching on some cheese 🧀 and crackers (even sharing with the hampsters if they're in house 🧠 that day). 😋 🤪🥰🤭😂

Like “SOON”, this was impossible! I do like a good surprise, but I love knowing MORE. When I was young I would open my Christmas presents, ever so carefully, before Christmas ‘cause I couldn’t stand the wait! Considering how often you’ve recorded songs I’ve previously disliked, I think I’d rather be surprised. Your performances and arrangements often win me over, and it might take a lot of fun out of anticipating a new release. As things stand, I look forward to every new release, am sometimes disappointed for the first few bars, and then end up being impressed. The disappointment only lasts a short time. If I know you’re working on something I haven’t enjoyed in the past, I’ll still listen, and you will probably win me over again, but the delightful part of waiting for release day will be gone.

This is actually kinda adjacent to a thought I had the other day, though. You've said before that you'd need to find time for noodling if you were going to write an original song. What if you shared some of that (maybe as an audio perk)? We get the very early stages of a song (and the fun of guessing what direction you'll go with it), you get to check that perk or whatever off your list for the month ... only if that wouldn't be too disruptive to your creative process!
