Who knew geoff was a master of all trade

JoeMotion Videos82

I'm really impressed that you do your own set designs. Great work my friend!

Maria Moore

Hi Geoff, Kathy, Eli, Lane, Tony and Rick your hard work has paid off Epic.

MEGAN FEAR

Amazing work as always!!

Debs Badger

Definitely one of my favorite perks! Thanks y'all! 🥰

Manasi Kane

Sure Tolkien was insane to do what he did but I’d say y’all are no less 🙂 ‘cause this is nuts ! Kudos Kathy, Geoff, Eli, Rick, Layne, Tony and everyone else involved. I feel privileged to be a patron here ! All of this hard, gruelling work has definitely paid off, y’all have made a beautiful video!❤️ Much love and appreciation!!

Sarah Borzelli

"Tolkien didn't have to do all these poems, he just did because he is insane!" - same applies to you Kathy and Geoff 😉 "It's all Kathy's fault" - yes, love all of 'Kathy's faults'! I love your commitment! It was very interesting to see how you do cues for the lighting, built the tomb, create the set and the process of filming such a complicated video! I admire your brains Kathy and Geoff to work out which character will sing what when and where to look, Kathy who plans out everything, never loses the overview and Geoff who has to act on the fly like that - woah I am truly impressed! Thank you for being so awesome and sharing all of that with us! Also: "didn't have a tape measure with me, believe it or not" - I am shocked!!!😱 Aww the last pic 🥹

Gillian Drysdale

Geoff is always moaning at Kathy for something! 😂

Tine

Wow. This seems to be almost more work than VoicePlay productions, of course also because of the make up changes and 1 person singing all of it. Incredible work! Thanks so much for this elaborate BTS. I really enjoy these. Thanks for the dedication to your craft❤️ Also that photo with Tommy is SO sweet🥹❤️

Johanna Ruusulaakso

Great job from everyone. I'm so impressed and I love seeing these behind the scenes.

Helen A

This was great, and very informative! I never even thought about the height of the pillars because you guys did the perspective so well that it just looks like we're staring down a long corridor. And I love seeing the positional direction from Kathy, which answers a question that has been burning since at least "Sixteen Tons" of 'how the heck are all the Geoff's reacting to each other when there's only one of him filmed 4-5 times? These videos are truly a(n intensive) labor of love, and we all appreciate you guys so much! 💕💕

Emma Yadkin

Yay for the Tommy cameo. Love the BTS.

Carina Rödebäk

Wow, the trouble you go to to make us a good video. Now I'm going to reread the travel through Moria-again!

Shannon D

Thank you Kathy! For the BTS and the awesomeness of the video 😁

Silv E

It's so cool seeing all the work that went into this! Kathy did a great job on the costuming and direction. So much attention to detail! Geoff claiming he "just showed up" after we saw him build the tomb and set up the lights made me giggle. Thanks for giving us a glimpse into this world - it's so cool! Also, 15:07 is a missed opportunity to launch into "Master of the House" from Les Mis. Just sayin'.

Gary Henderson

Thank you Kathy! Your HARD WORK is so appreciated! And Eli! And Layne! And the makeup guy, whose name I didn't catch! It was all SO worth it in the end.

Leonie Frenkert-Ghazi

Thank you Kathy, for all your ideas, your creativity and your energy! What a job you have done! You are unbeatable!

Sue Armstrong

That was a fun BTS! Lots of work for both of you, and lots of hair and glue for Geoff, but fun for us to watch.. 😁 Thanks so much for all you both do to entertain us!

Silv E

""Tolkien didn't have to do all these poems, he just did because he is insane!" - same applies to you Kathy and Geoff 😉" Yep, I had the same thought. Insane levels of creativity!

Tim Radde

Love seeing behind the scenes stuff. It's always fun to see that it takes much more work than it appears just watching the final video. Keep it up. You guys/girls do great work.

Patricia Schuman

When you did "Hide and Seek", there were lots of comments about how you suddenly looked like Dick Van Dyke. The nose you wore for Gimli also changed your look in a way that reminded me of him also, LOL!

Jordi S

Thank you, thank you, thankyou for all the work you put into your videos! Also, thank you for filming some BTS 🥰

Karen Campbell

It's fascinating to see how much goes in to making an intricate video like this. So nice to see the guys mucking in (as we say in Scotland) Kathy, you're the shining star who works so hard but rarely seen by the public. Thank you 😊

Jessica Lord

Love seeing so much of the work that goes into these - thank you to everyone who worked on this one!

Lana

I love these BTS videos. This is when you can really see how much time, energy and the coordinated work of how many great people is needed to make a video clip. Especially when one person - in this case Geoff - is present in the form of several characters. I don't want to bore anyone with the details, just watch the video! Huge congratulations to everyone! To Kathy, the members of VoicePlay and PattyCake Productions, that with hard and maximally professional work, they created this new masterpiece in a pleasant family atmosphere!

Tara Congo

So much work!!! Kudos to the entire team for all your efforts. Kathy and Geoff really are a dream team 😊 If this doesn't get all the success it deserves when it gets released, then we just need to throw YouTube right out because something is obviously broken. P.S. Tommy is such a sweetheart!!! Love any and all doggy cameos 🐕

Tara Congo

The very talented Rick Underwood is the make-up guy 😁

Liz Dyson

Aug 30. My birthday..

Amanda Nott

I am always amazed at the amount of work that goes into one of your videos! The Gimli nose definitely was amazing! Kudos to the whole team! I think it was another success for you all! Love the snippets at the very end of this video by the way!

𝕸𝖊𝖑𝖆𝖓𝖎𝖊 ♡ 𝕵𝖚𝖑𝖎𝖆 𝕾

Great! So much preparation and you do everything yourselves, even the decorations! It must have been a lot of work, but it was definitely worth it! It turned out fantastic thanks to the best team working together! Thank you so much for this look behind the scenes! 👀💯👍

Liz Dyson

This is facinating.

Karin Wolf

Oh. My. God. Geoff really went that far: adding a prosthetic nose is something I never thought he would do... such determinantion is incredible. wow. 😲

Angie Woollard

Wow! Kathy, this was your best BTS yet! Thank you ever so much for taking us right from the beginning - I loved all the glimpses of all facets of this one, from set building to lighting cues, to the actual filming day. You are AMAZING for pulling this all together! I think you're the true star of this video. Geoff, you were good too. 😜

Beth Comer

Incredible. Thanks so much for the peek behind the curtain- it's always a fascinating ride!

Lady Payne

Have to admit, Kathy is even more concentrated awesomeness than I had thought. Geoff went through a lot during the filming.

Jacky Friedman

That was so cool 😎. That was more than you usually show in your bts. The very end you looked like a nerd with the helmet and your glasses on 😂. Love that look 😉. Great job on the tomb. Looks so real.

Alyssa Daniels

Thanks to everyone involved for all the hard work that went into this shoot! The attention to detail really pays off and we all appreciate it so much!! I had been wondering about the background not being all the way shown and now I understand why. It’s a shame the space wasn’t tall enough! Side note: Omg you two are the cutest couple. Geoff’s little kiss on the back of Kathy’s head 🥹

Tim Radde

Yes, thanks to all of them. All this for us.

Cloudy Skies

This is a great bts! I loved Kathy's hand signals to Geoff about who is singing now. The set was cool and the backdrop worked out fine. And Tolkien was crazy. Not only did he write poems and songs for the story, he created whole languages to write in. And, Geoff, the dark hair and mutton chops look is NOT your best. And the end shot shows that Tommy "made it all better!" Thanks and kudos to everyone. Your work is our delight.

Carol Franklin

As always thanks everyone for all your work. I was blown away by this set & it’s incredible to see it come together. We’ve all got used to explaining to reactors that all the dwarves are you but we’ve got our work cut out with Gimli!! The great man brought down by a hair clip 🤣🤣

Jacky Friedman

On the second look at the video I slowed down the video at the very end to get a better look at you. I didn't notice before that you are wearing headphones over the helmet 😁. You also look like a Roman soldier Love the way you look there 😍.

Huldra Draco

What an amazing Bts!!! Thank you, Kathy for all the amazing job you do, not just for this amazing BTS, but also for all the work you put in with Geoff to make the magic happen! You're a dream team!! ❤️❤️❤️

Annett Günther

That was very interesting again. Thanks for the insights. The 'boss' Kathy has everything under control 😉. I'm always amazed at how the whole crew works together. Even William is already joining in 👏. Great! I love you all 🫶!

Sandy Mrotek

You guys ALWAYS do such a wonderful job in giving us the BTS of the videos you do. They show us how much work and talent you put into each video and it is great. Your ideas are wonderful. Thank you so much for your work. Thanks.

Cheryl Smith

This was wonderful to watch all the hard work that goes into a song. I love watching people work. LOL. I even watch people cutting grass.

Carla Saylor

I so very admire that you all pitch in to do things. I LOVE your work ethic and the results! This video is so amazing! Thanks Kathy for all of the work you do! The BTS makes me admire all of you sooo much! God bless you all!

Erma Payne

Love these behind the scenes videos. So much effort and skill goes into each production. Kathy just never ceases to amaze me with all the expertise she adds to each one of these. What a team the two of your are together as well as the others who helped. Thanks to all of you for what you are doing.

Mikki Fullerton

The filming of this one was amazing, and thank you for all that BTS footage (special thank you to whomever filmed the bits with Kathy in them!) I loved getting to see how Kathy coaches Geoff on what to sing when and where to look. The 'stages of hair' were also super cool to see. And that last little blip at the very end witht he helmet and headphones looked a little bit like Bofur's cousin Boppin, if I'm not wrong?

Katie Haycox

I absolutely love the BTS footage. Amazing video and song, well done all!

Karen Z

Phenomenal! Thank you so much for the BTS glimpses into all you do in producing the incredible atmospherics for your songs! Wow just doesn't cover it... And then, THEN, the music and vocals breathe life into them. We are privileged. Can't wait to see this one released on the world!

Ilona Dever

I have to say, when Gimli's beard was draped over the chair, I thought I was looking at Cousin It. Y'all are terrific! And just wondering, will the tomb be in your yard for Halloween?

Diary and Poetry

Tolkien did the poems because he basically wrote an epic poem, he just mostly wrote it in prose. But the Video and the song are amazing. Thank you for putting in the effort. This is one of your best pieces

Scott Pearce

I’ll be honest, I didnt even know Geoff was wearing a prosthetic nose in the music video lol

Diane Holland

Thank you for your sacrifice and hair styles to create an Epic Video!

Badger77722

I loved the shot of Tommy standing outside the garage when Geoff was working on the foamboard - Tommy may be Geoff's newest bestest friend, but he apparently doesn't trust Geoff working with power tools! I'm not 100% sure the prosthetic nose was worth the effort. I certainly didn't notice it when I saw the preview, and I'm not sure how many others will either - I think everyone (including me) will be fascinated with Gimli's beard and helmet - which are both pretty darn cool! Speaking of Gimli's helmet, I'm wondering how well Geoff could hear his cues with that on - it obviously covered his ears completely, but I wasn't sure how much sound it might let in.

Filiz E

Thank you Kathy for this incredible BTS! Wonderful to see all the hard work that goes into making these videos.. Also thanks to everyone involved and helped! And always lovely to see Tommy, such a cutie..

Christine

I thought Geoff looked different as Gimli but I also thought he sounded different =

Amber

A huge thank you to Kathy for all the incredible, hard work she put into this!! And for the BTS look! You two make such a great team along with everyone else who helped. I absolutely love the video and it was so cool seeing behind the curtain lol

Loves to Dive

I joined Patreon mostly to see these BHS videos, it is fascinating to see the details that y'all put into each video. As someone who hasn't seen the movies I can tell you I wouldn't have known the difference but, wow, can I appreciate the dedication and artistry that goes into it.

MagpieCat can pack anything like a bag of holding

I love seeing what goes into making these videos! I don't know how Kathy keeps track of it all! BTW, as a collector of archaic words, I have to tell you that "hewn" means "cut." Think of "hand-hewn beams" and the like.

Jeanette Pencz

I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful work. You put so much effort and work into it and created pure magic. Big compliments to all of you - especially to Kathy and Geoff. And of course a big thank you to Eli, Layne, Tony, Rick, William and Tommy, Thank you for bringing so much joy and magic into my life.

Doyne

What a fun BTS! Thanks to everyone for all of the hard work! The end result was worth it, promise!

Karli Gibson

Layne is a real one! Love seeing him help Geoff with his projects and saw some of Eli later in the video too❤️

Holly G

Bonus Tommy pic is what we're all really wanting, and the team delivers!

ANITA M WRIGHT

This was awesome. It is so interesting how this video came together. Lots of hard work and effort. Thanks for sharing this with us!

CR Marsh

Love seeing Kathy play dress-up on Geoff! “We have this, and he’s got this to wear over it, and maybe this too…” 😂

Druid

I am eternally bamboozlegasted by the incredible attention to detail and incomprehensible amount of work that goes into every single song and production. And I know there’s still soooooooo much more going on even behinder the scenes. It’s what sets the TRUE artists/creative teams apart… the passion and relentless pursuit of the vision. And thus, the most beautifulest of results. I am forever in humble awe of you ALL! 🫶🏼

Janet Wright

It was the first thing I noticed. Maybe because I was wondering if they were going to do that. It’s such a part of Gimli‘s character.

Maggie Nystrom

I heard Geoff say that "all the voices sound alike." This is not so. It sounds like 5 guys in great harmony. You harmonize even better than VoicePlay (who are great after all). When I first saw/heard "Misty Mountains Cold" I thought there were 4 guys and it took me watching 4 or 5 of your videos before I realized Hey, that's all Geoff!!!. I think it was 16 Tons before I realized that. So your work and attention to detail (by you I mean Kathy, Eli, etc. etc.) pays off. Thank you all for this wonderful rendition of Song of Durin. While the looks may be based on the movies, the song is so true to the book.

Gretchen G

Thank you for the bts! Super interesting as always. 🩵

Tracy Z

Thank you all for the hard work that contributed to an amazing production and performance

KorKnot

Wowzers! Thanks for sharing part of your hard work. Team + Tommy = terrific-ness! 😃

Lynn M

To be fair Tolkien wrote the books so he would have a story to put his poems and songs in 🤣.

Renee A. Butler, LMT

Love the BTS for this one! I've been wondering how the split screen thing allowed for multiple Geoffs, and I'm so glad we got a sneak peek at that -- it's always been one of the most mind-boggling parts of a Geoff video! Kudos to the BG squad -- Kathy, Layne, Tony, Eli, William, Tommy and the MVP, Mr. Rick, for all the makeup. Knocked this one out of the park (and I don't just mean Disney!)

Katherine Powell

Geoff talking about Tolkien: He didn't have to write all those poems and stuff....he just did it.....because he was crazy. :D The Geoff moments post-gramophone were chef's kiss fantastic. Also, who else died of cuteness overload when Geoff came up behind Kathy and kissed her head? Great work, everyone! And as always, thank you Kathy for the bts footage.

Marie DesJardin

12:50 Tolkien would agree with you that he was insane. In one of the letters he wrote to Edith from the front he wonders, "how can I be sitting here in the canteen working out details of the Elvish language while bombs are going off." Middle-earth was both a passion and escape. Also, Tommy is too cute at 1:14 wondering what the heck is going on.

Leigh D

I love that Tolkien started the Middle Earth as stories for his children and to make it seem more real he created family trees, timelines, lore, languages, and more. That is true dedication. Speaking of dedication, look at poor Geoff after all the makeup and filming. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to recover. 🥰

Stephanie Bunn

Kathy, I would love to know what etsy shops you used

Lee Chowning

And this is why we are here on Patreon. It makes it so much clearer how much work goes into these.

Debs Badger

If you haven't seen it, the BtS for "Big Bad John" is a really good one for understanding how they film the multiple Geoffs.

Debs Badger

How interesting about the nose! There was a whole conversation in the Discord as to whether there were any additional prosthetics in addition to the nose... (and that was before the BtS).

Kourtney Frantz

You had to be dying in that heat building that!!! Bless you!!!!🔥❤️

Kourtney Frantz

Wow….thanks for all the hard work you guys put into these, Impressive the DETAIL!! Go BIG or go home! Everything about this was fantastic! BTS shows us how insanely talented ya’ll are at creating scenes for them to be so genuine. I so appreciate what you ALL do to bring this to us.🥰🙌🏻

Grand Nagus

Another example of a reason why i love BTS videos so much. The signaling Kathy did reminded me of a traffic cop regulating traffic at street crossings or of the deck personal on an aircraft carrier. Absolutely stunning costumes and the crafting at the start too. Thank you everyone for bringing us another masterpiece of a song, together with a video that is really wonderful to watch.

AmbularD

And to find out who the heck was speaking all these languages he kept inventing! 😂

Julie Gallagher

That was a major production! Thank you all very much for working so hard to create something so special. 😊

ChazyUK

Wonderful from behind the scenes to watching the end result. I no not a thing about the story, the songs, the characters. In the end I really didn't need to, the performance said it all, just so enchanting.

Jamie T.

Wow, this just gave me a whole new level of appreciation for the video. What a tremendous amount of work you all put in making this video. I always love seeing Eli, Layne & Tony there helping you out along with Kathy, of course. Your dedication to detail is amazing. And may I say, you & Kathy are so adorable together!

V.E. Griffith

one of the things that attracts me to Geoff's and VP's videos is everyone's commitment to the bit. if you're going to do it, within the limits of your resources, do it and do it right. i love it, and it keeps me coming back. thank you for all the insane work this takes to make it look fantastic!

Sandy Nickell

WOW! I had no idea! The amount of work you had to put into this! It paid off! The piece was incredible! 💜💜💜

Anna Mattaar

Somehow your Bofur looks A LOT like a former classmate of mine. I showed him and he asked if it was just the moustache or the entire look, because if the latter, he took it as a big compliment!

Grand Nagus

Trust in Kathy to come up with the cool ideas, aka adding Gimli to the band.

Tom Peavy

Ok. Put away about $85,000, get you a big diesel Ford or Chevy pickup to haul gear. Then drop the rear so it looks like a dog dragging it’s butt and put LEDs in the wheel wells. Practical and “Orlando Cool”. Ha ha

Tema Krempley

I truly appreciate how much effort you put into this piece. I know it was not pleasant! I'm honestly impressed with all the details. Adding Gimil was genius! Thank you for that Kathy! I appreciate it. Thank for making this Tolkien Geek so happy.

Sandy Parker

Since the public release on YouTube, the reactors are going CRAZY and loving every minute of it! I enjoy watching their expressions when the first hear you, but they always go down the Geoff/Voice Play rabbit whole. Thank you guys so much for the hard work you put into everything you do for us.

Lynda Rood

Kathy, you are amazing in your ability to keep everything in order. You and Geoff make a wonderful team in getting these videos together. Geoff, your voice is as beautiful and so wonderful at showing the emotions of each character. Thank you for the BTS it helps me understand how things like this are done.

Ann Bean

We love it so much big thanks to all xx Ann

SunnyOutlook

I am more and more impressed with all you and Kathy do when I see the behind the scenes. It's hard work but it looks like so much fun.

Rachel Dempsey

Yet again the absolute effort and dedication that goes into these videos is just astounding! How everything is perfect down to the smallest details 🤯

Rachel Dempsey

12:48 Geoff: He [Tolkien] didn’t need to do these poems, he just did because he was insane. Us: He [Geoff] doesn’t need to do all this work for a video, he just does because he’s insane(ly talented and hardworking and maybe just a little insane 😆)

Gisela D (DarthLeia)

Glad Katy has everything under control and those costumes looked great. Hope you continue with more Lord of the rings content since the ringsd of power have good themes too.

Jaezrar

This was a really interesting video. I knew there was a lot of work going into the video, but this was even more than I imagined. Great teamwork!

Kurt R Roesener

Geoff and Kathy, Don't mean to sound like an 'Alarmist' However, spraying paint and such should require a mask, those chems can be really bad. Loved seeing the BTS though, such Awesome work by ALL involved! HUZZAH!

Judi B E

Lol, been there and done that with mattresses etc moving my girlie a few times. It's a good thing I'm short because my 6' boys would not have fit. You were much more graceful about it.

Judi B E

I have to agree. My dad had a stroke varnishing (a worse chemical, I know) the ceiling to the new sun room. He knew better, but just didn't heed his own knowledge.

Judi B E

My girlie danced, competition, from 4 until, well she is still, she just changed genres. Her studio was so great at putting on shows, not just boring recitals. We built stages outside, painted backdrops, made props the whole bit and an amazing community of FAMILIES was built this way. Our kids are grown, in and out of college and university, but the families are all still good friends. It is a worthwhile endeavor you have dedicated yourselves to. They danced at Disneyland a few times, but none of them decided to make it a career.

Susana

it's really amazing how much work you both do together. Making videos isn't easy at all, and you both work so hard. Congratulations, it's a pleasure to watch the whole process. Thanks. Hugs from Argentina.

Sharon Bapp

I loved seeing William help his father with the project. Geoff is teaching him good work ethics which his father obviously taught him.

Mira.Jean

I got butterflies...
