Hey everyone!

Just wanted to drop you a quick update and also ask you a couple of questions. FIRST, "Sixteen Tons" is doing incredibly well for a song that is basically 80 years old, and I'm a bit astounded by it's performance on YouTube. To give you some perspective, at the time of this writing it has nearly DOUBLE the amount of views that the next most popular video (The Bare Necessities) does, which is mind blowing to say the least. Who knew people wanted to hear a little Tennessee Ernie Ford so badly? Not me, that's for sure.

SO --- THANK YOU for all of your help in bringing "Sixteen Tons" to life, it's been an unbelievable raging success and I'm so grateful to have a community as supportive as you are to make real these things that only exist in my dreamy headspace. NOW all we need to do is find like 50 or 60 more songs just like it and watch the views just ROLL in, right? 😎

I wish it were that easy, which is why this next paragraph might come as a bit of a disappointment to some of you; it's surely disappointing to me. My Son's school has closed down for 2 weeks due to a case of covid-19 and so our little one-man-one-woman video/music production house here has to close down as well. Producing content at the level that we expect from ourselves is time consuming and requires a lot of focus and effort and we can't continue working on the pieces we were creating while simultaneously taking care of and schooling our son, but we also don't want to let the the youtube channel languish or the patreon campaign stagnate so we're having to pivot a bit. Oh, and obviously we're all getting tested in the next day or so (again) so I'll keep you updated if anything comes of it. Fingers crossed that we're all in the clear.

(I should also mention to those of you that are VoicePlay Patrons, that at this moment, this news doesn't affect ((effect?)) VoicePlay's production schedule, but we'll keep you updated over there if anything changes)

The music video I was working on this month "Take Me Home, Country Roads" is going to be put on the back burner for the moment in lieu of 2 things that I am sure that I can accomplish during our little 2 week vacation.

I'd like to give you another narration, because I love doing them and we haven't had one in a while. I just need some suggestions from you in the comments below as to what to read so we can narrow it down for a proper patron poll.

I'd like to record another q&a video for the musically minded of you out there. If you've got questions about anything music related for me or if there are further explanations of things that I've touched on in previous q&a's drop them below for me and I'll do my very best to get to 'splaining.

OR... if those options don't feed your soul, drop a suggestion below and let's see if there's something else more exciting we can create together instead. Like maybe brownies. Brownies are super exciting. I like fudgey ones. If someone serves me a cakey brownie it's getting dropped on the carpet immediately if not sooner. I HAVE NO ROOM IN MY LIFE FOR CAKEY BROWNIES.

So that's about it for now, drop comments and questions below take care of each other and have a great week!

Sixteen Tons is how I found you, and through you, VoicePlay and I'm now a patron of both :)

Vaesse (vie-ESS-uh)

Way, WAY late in the game, but fully agree that brownies MUST be fudgey or immediately dropped.

Rick Duff

Y’all take care of Master William........we’ll be here! 💕❤️

Name

I think “16 Tons” will keep me happy for a long time! Come back when you can, we’ll be here. Stay well in the meantime.

Luna Koole

SIXTEEN TONS was AWESOME! It's kinda stuck in my head 😉

Olivia

I don’t have any specific questions for the q&a, but I love the previous ones. Looking forward to it! I hope y’all stay safe!

Cindy Barber

First, I hope you and all the family are able to get healthy tests back and everyone stays that way!! Your family should always come first. ❤️❤️ I, myself, would love another narration but I cannot think of anything specific so I'm afraid, at the moment, I am very little help in the idea front.

Alicia G.

I hope you all are fine and nobody gets ill. The schools here are closed since Christmas and I know how hard it is for many of my friends with little children. To work and take care of a child is not always possible. We all understand. Greetings from Germany

Tylor Paulson

Take care of the family! We understand and will be here continuing our support

Wendy Bishop

Would love to hear The Fall of the House of Usher or The Masque of the Red Death.

Wesker's Urobussy

Just worry about taking care of yourself and your family Geoff, hope you're all okay. 😊

Helen A

1. Sorry to hear that you've hit a COVID wave but anyone who doesn't understand that kind of delay by now has been living under a large rock! 2. Yes it is "affect" :) 3. Yay, Narration! I don't know what to suggest but maybe you'll see one you like here: https://americanliterature.com/100-great-short-stories 4. Aww, I love "Country Roads". Something to look forward to in the future. 5. 16 Tons was a great performance of an awesome arrangement of a timeless song. I'm not surprised it's gone gangbusters but I was a little shocked when it hit 200K+ hits in the first week! Congrats. 😃

Dominique

That your 16 tons is doing so well might be my "unhealthy obsession " I have for it 😅 Wishing you all the best for the next two weeks. We here in Germany have been in a complete lockdown since December and no real end inside. I'm working with toddlers in a daycare setting which I absolutely love to do so I know how you're feeling. Whatever you can do I'll support with all my heart and ( money) 🤣 Stay strong and safe! Dominique

Amanda Yarbro

I hope everyone tests negative. And we'll be here waiting for you when you can do content.

Veronika Troll

First of all thank you for the update! I hope your whole family will have negative test results. All of the options sounds wonderful but you don't need to do any of them if it's too much for you besides home schooling. I'm sure all of us can understand and support that. :) But if you do a q&a you can tell us about your days with William during this 'vacation' (if you would like to of course) - I know it's not music related request but it would be nice to hear from you. :) I am looking forward to Take me home, Country road. Beautiful song. And of course Sixteen tons is a banger, always had been <3

Alaethea (Ali)

You all just stay safe and as relatively sane as possible. I would also accept recipe suggestions ( like, say, that Mac n cheese recipe you mentioned in a chat or something before?). As people have said before, you can read from a phone book for all most of us care. But I do think Take me Home will be great when it's doable again.

Sunniva Melhuus

May I suggest Swedish mud cake? Google ‘kladdkaka’. You’ll thank me later. If it’s not gooey, it’s not kladdkaka. I love your narrations, so anything in that general area would be awesome. Actually, the phone book would do.

Shari Ann Creamer

The Monkey's Paw, please. A great old spooky tale. Also, obviously, family first. We get that. Take care.

Margo Zimny

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this! I hope all of you are negative and can come out of hiding in 2 weeks! There is an older piece that was done by Jimmy Dean called "Big John". He narrates the verses and sings the chorus. The only thing is, it's a lot like " 16 Tons" so I don't know if you want to go there again. Otherwise I'll try to think of another.

Talamyan

No worries! I have two at home myself - all schools are closed in the UK because of the new variant B.1.1.7. (Which, unfortunately, is already spreading in the US and will probably close things down there further too in the near future.)

Debs Badger

Totally understandable in these times, and equally understandable is your wanting to pivot and keep momentum going. I truly hope you all test negative, so that is one less thing on your plates. 🙂 I'd enjoy another narration, for certain. I'm going to second Shari, I think it's a GREAT idea: The Monkey's Paw. 🐵

Shari Ann Creamer

For the Q &A - when working improvised percussion into a song, like your foot stomping or your sledgehammer pinging, do you take the pitch of those sounds into account?

Debs Badger

He has already done this one. 🙂

Talamyan

Oooh how about a cute father son video of some kind (although maybe for privacy reasons you want to keep him off screen?)

Mike Pearce

I signed on to support you. Creativity doesn't work on a schedule and life has a nasty habit of interfering. We aren't going anywhere.

Julia Cable

I hope you all are well. Maybe take this time to relax a bit and renew your artistic spirit. Hmm things to read... there are so many passages from Midsummer Night's Dream I'd love to hear: Puck's final monolog. Any part of the Screw tape Letters. With Valentines Day... She Walks in Beauty by Byron. Annabell Lee by Poe So many Shakespeare sonnets

Jamie T.

Take care of you & your family and I hope you all test negative! We'll all be here when you return and if you have time to do a reading or a Q & A whatever you choose will be fine. I myself will be off the grid for a bit due to surgery tomorrow. I'm actually more worried about my first Covid test today than the surgery at the moment. Brain swabbing does NOT sound fun! Oh, and thank you so much for mentioning brownies when I'm not going to be able to eat anything for days - UGH, you big meanie! 🤣

Kristin Taggart

We can definitely wait for a video... your family comes first! And I hope the three of you remain safe and well. For narration, how about a poem by e. e. cummings?

Sophie Llewellyn Smith

Geoff, it's amazing you even have time to give us this update and offer alternatives. Stay safe, look after your family, have fun with the little man, eat fudgy brownies. If you have time, please read us a poem! How about 'If' by Rudyard Kipling, or 'Courage' by Edgar A. Guest - something with grit? On the musical Q&A front, I'm interested to know what aspects of your voice you've worked on in the past few years, and using what techniques; whether you've deliberately tried to expand your usable range; whether you still practise regularly, or just sing the songs...anything you can tell us, really. BTW, has it not occurred to you that, setting aside the musical loveliness of Sixteen Tons, some people (not me, obviously 😉) might be watching because of what you're wearing in the video?

Jason Ray

Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky!

Raven Winters

Completely understand. I will just be having Geoff withdrawal lol. I am absolutely no help when it comes to reading siggestions but i did have a thought about how you could do some behind the scenes videos for your other videos. I thought it would be cool to see some of your recording sessions for the tracks. Just an idea 😇 cant wait for whatever you decide to do. It's all always awesome!

Hana Keindlová

Congratulations for the success of 16 Tons, you deserve all the love it's getting. Everyone to whom I show it is at least fascinated, if not already falling in love. I personaly listen to it every day and still can't get enough. Good luck with it all in front of you. There's nothing more important than family ❤️ Please send my prayers to Kathy as she will need a lot of strength, tho. Just kidding (and not very well), you all three will need it. Our schools are closed for months already and it's devastating. Our youngest ones still can go to schools (till about 8 years old) but all older are locked at home for so long that the frustration is almost visible in thin air. I work at secondary school and seeing the huge building empty is honestly weird. Back to the track, I am so so glad you are thinking about doing some reading again. I would love to hear some of the good ol' Shakespeare, but even thought I would enjoy that, he is maybe too "overused", thought. But if I could ask something for q&a, I am just wondering, how do you record the whole track? I mean, what goes first? The leading voice? I apologize for asking as an idiot, I am one myself. Uhm, well, sorry for long comment, I miss chatting with people face to face and I am putting that need into comments. Stay safe and whatever will happen, be sure that we will wait here as long as you need. After all, we are here to support you, not to making you more worried or stressed. ❤️

Olivia

I hope everything goes well!

Alex King

Kingsman-2: The Golden Ring. Wasn't that the last song Merlin sang? It's just the only place I've ever heard this song 😅

Olympia

Safety and health is the number one priority always! I’ve always thought that you would sound great doing the telltale heart! Lots of good vibes to everyone from cold New York!💓🎶❄️

Debs Badger

He's already done that one. 🙂 It's on his YT channel, and it's fantastic!

Tara Congo

Huge congrats on Sixteen Tons (so deserved - it's fantastic!), and also on nearly hitting 100k subs on YouTube! I sincerely hope you're all healthy and safe - take care of yourselves over the next couple of weeks. For a reading suggestion, how about To Build a Fire - Jack London? Beautifully descriptive winter tale, if more than a little bleak. I remember reading it in school and being really grabbed by it. Another suggestion would be The Purloined Letter - Edgar Allen Poe, which is (I think) the best of his detective stories.

Gretchen G

The Waste Land by T. S. Eliot would be really cool. ". . . I will show you something different from either / Your shadow at morning striding behind you / Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you; / I will show you fear in a handful of dust. . . ." It's a really beautiful poem. There are some German and Latin phrases in there too (and French I think?) which would be cool. Hope you guys all stay well! Totally understand about the need to change your plans. "Take Me Home, Country Roads" will be great whenever you get back to it, I'm sure! And congratulations on "Sixteen Tons" being such a success! So glad to hear it's getting the recognition and love it deserves!

Gretchen G

Also, totally agree about the brownies! :)

Sandy Mrotek

Country Road will be great and we can all wait for it while you are getting your family secure. I know a lot of people that have had to put their lives on hold while waiting for this to pass and when you did 16 Tons that was wonderful and GREAT. That should hold us for a while and I for one listen to it each and every day. I loved Tennessee Ernie Ford but I have to admit you did it so much better. Thanks. Also while I am here - thanks for the showing of the making of "Unchained Melody". I love to watch the making of your songs because it shows how talented you guys are and how much work goes into making each and every song. I just want to thank you for all you do for all of us and also thank Voice Play for the wonderful music you produce. Keep your family safe and sound during all these times and I agree with everyone else on this post - FAMILY COMES FIRST.

Stacey Post

Narration suggestions are right in my wheelhouse. I am still advocating for "Usher II" from "The Martian Chronicles". It would help a lot if you could give us some parameters, such as maximum length. I would like to see you talk more about singing issues that affect people who are not basses. I don't know if you've noticed, but you're pretty incredible in other ranges as well. As a soprano, I would like to know more about techniques for achieving some of the apparently-effortless vocal gymnastics you pull off.

Tracie Schlaak

Geoff I support you because of your talent and interaction with patrons. You take whatever time you need. Take care of William and Kathy. Congrats on the success of 16 tons. I knew it would do great! Country Roads is a great number. I will wait patiently (not). It would cool to see video of when you are recording tracks. Lastly, ooey, gooey brownies are the best! Take care and hope your tests come back negative.

Maggie S

Thank you for the update. Life comes first! Take care of you, Kathy and the little one. Videos can wait. A narration would be wonderful. It is such a pleasure listening to you read; your voice is so soothing. Suggestions: Lewis Carrol "Jabberwocky"; Dr. Seuss _McElligot's_Pool_ (very few people know this one), _The_Lorax_ , or _Oh_the_Places_You'll_Go_; anything by Pablo Neruda; for something on the scary side: Jacobs "The Monkey's Paw" or more Ambrose Bierce

Arlene Jacobs

Thank you for the update. Hoping William, Kathy and yourself stay healthy and receive a negative test. I don’t really have any narrative ideas. Take care of everyone and we’ll be here waiting.

Gabriella Sejer

I would like also Shakespeare sonnets to hear :)

A.J. O'Brien

I'm with you on the brownies, Sir--fudgey or bust! Re narrations, ...hm. I know you've read some Edgar Allan Poe. You know, you could always read Lewis Carroll's poem Jabberwocky. (I wish I could recite it to you...I am rather fond of my own over-the-top interpretation, in which the dad has something of a bombastic preacher in him...! ...but of course I'm biased.) There are other wonderful poems you could read that I don't think would take as much time and effort as many of your wonderful productions do but that would introduce your followers to literary artists they may not be as familiar with. Just a thought! What matters most is that you take care of yourself and your lovely family...stay warm and safe...even if you need a hiatus, we'll be here when you get back.

Rebekah Galy-Davis

While your arrangement and execution of Sixteen Tons is inarguably phenomenal, I think it’s not *just* the song or the vocals that made your video such a hit. Just sayin.’ Ray Bradbury’s “The Veldt” might be up your alley. Action packed and slightly disturbing, much like most of Bradbury’s work. Hope you, Kathy & the little guy are and remain well!

Kim Taylor

Your number one priority must be to your family. I hope you all stay healthy and can enjoy some relaxation and play time together. I know we as patrons sometimes show impatience and cause you to feel pressured to get new material done quickly, but I think that is just derived from our love of your talents and creations. You have been going full stride over the past few months with both your solo work, as well as Voiceplays creations. Take some much needed time while you have the chance. I know I will be patiently waiting for your future creations. No rush! Just take care of Kathy, William and yourself. Oh, and you are absolutely right, fudgy brownies are the only acceptable kind!!!

Sarah Dworak

Here’s hoping that the family stays healthy and safe. For narration, I agree that Pablo Neruda would be great! I am probably way on my own on this one, but I would be interested to learn about your workout/fitness routines for a Q&A. Congrats on the well-deserved success on “Sixteen Tons!”

Janet Towles

First, thanks for even taking the time to update us! It helps to know the situation so we can be patient! As always, take time for your family. As for the brownies, may I recommend a specific mix? I am quite the cook but I can't make better than these... Get the Ghirardelli box mix in the Chocolate Supreme flavor. It comes with a package of chocolate syrup that gets mixed in, so it is very fudgy. Be careful not to overbake. They are *fantastic*. As for narration suggestions, I have 3: 1) I also vote for the Jabberwocky 2) Maybe something for Valentine's Day (you could dedicate it to Kathy, awwww) 3) Or maybe one of the original, dark versions of a fairy tale, maybe one that Disney adapted? It would be both Disney-adjacent and dark, so it would be an interesting intersection that's still right in your wheelhouse.

Tyler Beggs

Thanks for the update, and best of luck to you on all that you’ve got going on right now (it seems like a lot!) I have a question regarding something you touched on briefly in your ‘how to sing LOW Q&A part 1’ video. When you were explaining the concept of inducing light trauma to your vocal chords to temporarily lower your voice, you mentioned that you will intentionally “wreck yourself” just a little bit, occasionally, when you have to hit a really low note for a recording. Could you elaborate a bit on that? As in, what do you specially do? Since I imagine you do it in a healthy way, or at least as healthy as intentionally inducing vocal trauma can be.

Jess M

Thanks for the update, family comes first. And yes to fudgy brownies. For narrations I don't really have ideas other than books that are way too long. But I really like the idea of the fairy tales in a "not Disney"-version. I love Disney, but as a German I grew up with the original stories. I would love to hear the original Snow White, Cinderella or Rapunzel with your voice. The little mermaid is pretty dark too and you already nailed Ursula so that would be my favorite, I think.

Keith Hartley

Your talent is atounding Geoff! Since you have given us some amazing content that we love, it is only fair that in return we support you in taking the time you need to support your family! I hope you guys stay safe and healthy!!!

Elizabeth Ratzlaff

So very sorry to hear that your family has been exposed to COVID. Our granddaughter who's in kindergarten, her teacher was exposed, every body quarantined and tested. Yes, family definitely comes first!! Pray that your family stays well.

Stacy Tee

Wishing you, Kathy, and Little Man healthy thoughts and prayers. Always do what's best for them above all else. Your "virtual family" will truly be there for you throughout the pause and then along after. :) This happened to my Kindergartener last month. Thankfully the 2 positive children that were in her class attended in person the days she didn't, her classroom was disinfected between groups, & her teacher was negative. However, it's scary when it gets that close to home. I don't have any unique reading suggestions as I love what has already been mentioned here. I have my fave but I'll keep that mention for when you sort out the poll. If I do think of something & still open for suggestions, I'll post it. Again, healthy thoughts sent your way. Enjoy the extra snuggle time!!!!

Ben McAdam

I second all the "family first, we'll be here" comments. For the Q&A: what do you do to keep your voice in shape OR what's your normal recording/practising schedule? And more relevant for a bunch of us currently-choir-less singers, what would you change if you didn't need to sing or perform for a bit (e.g. you go on holiday, or covid lockdown happens at your kids' school) and then how would you get yourself back into it just before your "time off" ends? Love those Q&A videos! And all the music, even songs I normally don't like. Thanks Geoff! :)

Jennifer

Like everyone else, I believe family comes first. I hope everyone tests negative. As far as brownies, the more fudge, the better. No suggestions on what you should or shouldn’t do next...I’m up for whatever. 😁

Helen A

For the Q&A - How do you go about arranging the multiple audio/video sessions needed for things like "Sixteen Tons" that have many parts but only 1 performer to bring them all to life? Is it harder to make up multiple harmonies for a song like S.T. that was originally recorded as a solo vocal with no backup singers, or is it easier because there is less to rework into an original take?

Katie D

Thank you for taking the time to update us. I sincerely hope you all test negative. My best friend is just starting to recover from having covid last month, and I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone ❤ I'm so happy for you that "Sixteen Tons" is doing so well! My parents were born in '45 and '47, and have been listening to that song for decades. My mom can't get enough of your rendition 🙂 Sadly I have no ideas for narrations, nor any musical questions I can think of, so I'm afraid I'm not much help on that front. I'm here to support you either way 💕 Also, I agree on fudgy brownies. Get those dry cakey brownies outta here! 😁

Natacha Riley

Geoff!! Thanks for keeping us posted! Prayers for you and the family. Especially hoping that William still naps!! Suggestion for a song - At Last (I'm sticking to my guns on that one.) Suggestion for narration - The Giving Tree - Shel Silverstein Suggestion for a video - More in depth explanation of how you choose songs that you are going to cover. What do you hear that makes you say "Oh, that's interesting!" What songs won't you touch and why? What should we be listening for when we are searching for a song to suggest for you? Brownies - Um...does anyone eat brownies any other way but fudgy?? Lastly - Thank you so much for the autographed pic!!!!! Framed and mounted - once the kids stopped jumping up and down and hugging it LOL Blessings!!!!!

Tra Mason

You take care of your family first! We will be here waiting when you get back, hopefully you are all ok. Our schools here are closed until march so I understand fully. I would love another narration, they are truly a delight to listen to, sadly nothing is springing to the front of my mind (too many ideas buzzing in there). Keep safe!

Sophie Plourde

Thank you so much for the update and I'm hoping you guys all test negative! 🙏 I'm glad 16 tons is doing so well!

Stacey Post

"The Little Mermaid" was my favorite fairy tale as a kid . . . which probably says a lot about why I grew up so twisted. But yes, I could get behind hearing narrations of non-Disneyfied fairy tales.

Natacha Riley

OH! And congrats on the success of Sixteen Tons!! Not gonna lie - 1000 of those views were probably from my kids, who shared with their friends and, believe it or not, the 2nd grade music teacher! Who also shared it with his family, and is also now a subscriber to your and VoicePlay's YouTube channels. Then he referenced it in music class as part of his lesson on what a cappella means! You are taking over the world one video at a time!! Castellucci for President!!! LOL!

Runa Reinert

Glad your son is your no1 priority. Best Wishes

LadyFox

Thank you for keeping us updated on what's going on, keeping my fingers crossed and sending all the positive vibes to the three of you <3 I'm assuming that you have to stick to the public domain for the narrations for legal reasons so I'll second *Monkey's Paw* as several others have. It's a dark and creepy tale and would be excellent in your voice. I'd also like to suggest the short story *The Most Dangerous Game* which finally entered the public domain last year. It's a dark adventure story/thriller with great twists and turns and I have to imagine it would be even more pulse-pounding narrated by you.

Jessie

As everyone else stated. Family always comes first. So take all the time you need. And whatever you chose, I bet it will be awesome. I Will keep your family in my prayers. Take care, Stay safe, and always stay awesome.

Stacey Post

Ooh, just got my pic in the mail today. Naturally, I had to go right out and get a frame to protect it . . . and to evangelize the store clerk about the wonders of the incomparable Geoff Castellucci. "Excuse me, ma'am, but have you taken a moment to accept Geoff as your favorite singer ever?"

Gretchen G

I second this brownie mix recommendation! That's my favorite kind too. They're so good!

Kimmie

How about a song with your son? Just a fun thing, not especially professional, just have a good time sing along. My niece can’t carry a tune, but she’s 5 and she loves to sing. We do the “anything you can do I can do better”. A lot, she gets to giggling and it totally breaks down, it’s just to enjoy each other.

Carl Thomas

My best wishes to you and yours, Geoff. Please stay safe, and may the closest you get to this awful virus be your vaccine shots.

Christina Dowdican

Don't worry about us we'll still be here. Just focus on taking care of your family. Theyre #1 priority right now. Really looking forward to Country Roads, i also love his songs, Annies Song & Grandma's Feather Bed. As an honir to Moms everywhere check out Jimmy Deans song I. O. U. It's so beautiful. But not until your ready. Readings would be awesome, I've listened to the ones you've already done & i love them.i honestly don't know what to recommend, even tho I'm an avid reader most of mine tend towards murder/psychological mysteries & romance books. Love & Prayers to you & yours.❤️🙏❤️🙏

Christina Dowdican

I saw a post on your page for your merch line but now i can't find it. Can anyone help?

Lourdes Sanz

Narrations would be great!! Here are some ideas: Óscar Wilde’s The Canterville Ghost, any Edgar A Poe, Walt Whitman, or even Hans Christian Andersen... So sorry to read about COVID... hope everyone tests negative! And of course William goes first so please dont worry, you can count on us and please do take care! Sixteen Tons is amazing! mainly because of your arrangement and interpretation, you are very talented always but this particular performance is extraordinary! The sucess is very well deserved!! I do not really have any technichal knowledge of music but certainly enjoy learning with the videos you have made on how you make the arrangements, etc, so if its easier that would be nice as well. And of course sharing about you and your beautiful family is always much appreciated!!

Margaret Adams

You are an exceptional talent and I am never disappointed with any of your content. I'm sorry to hear of you difficulties and I hope all is well for you and your family!! Much love and blessings!

D McKim

I have to chime in and add to the chorus, don't worry about changing the schedule. Life happens. As we are all battling a pandemic that is a scourge of humanity, the concept of schedules has become a laughable concept. We won't hold it against you if you put off a project. Since your kiddo is home, how about an audio story? Something like the "Tales of Peter Rabbit," “Alice in Wonderland," "Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There,” are all Public Domain. You could upload it in sections if it was easier. I am sure many little ones are battling insomnia, they may not understand what is going on in the world but the pick up on the adults anxiety. Btw, about 500 views on 16 tons came from my clients, they both love your music. My female client requested that I pass along her appreciation for you... I was a bit surprised at her comment, guess it showed on my face. She gave me a deadpan look and proclaimed, "I'm old, not dead honey!" She's a card.

Jojo Hale

Take all the time you need! Family first.

Jojo Hale

Oh, also: The Jabberwocky poem (from Alice in Wonderland) would be a fun, relatively short narration project. And, I live in CA so mailing you brownies won’t work (they’d be stale before they got to you) but please know I would send your family some delicious non-cakey brownies if I could... because you’re right, cakey brownies are trash.

Dan Black

narration suggestion: The Cremation of Sam McGee!!

Jancie Sheppard

I’m sorry to hear about your son’s school. I hope you guys are ok. Thank you for putting your family first. As far as readings go, the only ideas that are coming to mind at the moment are “The Jabberwocky”, “The Monkey’s Paw” by W. W. Jacobs, more Poe (one of my favorites is “The Cask of Amontillado”), and something or some things from Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. With the Q&A, I’d like to know more about how to find your starting note when given another note from a pitch pipe or similar. I assume it has something to do with chord structures? I wish you all the best and as many delicious brownies and other treats as your stomach and tastebuds can handle 😊

Carina Sander

Family first, take care! Congrats on the success of sixteen tons. Love the arrangement! Since I’m a Swede I don’t have any good suggestions for narration. Q/A’s though....I would love to understand a little bit more of your working methods making all those superb arrangements that you do. Do you start with the baseline to a melody? Or do you figure out harmonies first? And also, do you do anything in particular to keep your voice healthy? There are some songs I hope you could take on. At last, Feeling good, What a wonderful world, O’l man river, My funny Valentine, Georgia on my mind I could go on for quite a while, but this will have to do for the moment Stay safe❣️

Miranda de la Parra

We understand, little ones come first, especially in this situation. Please take care of yourselves! For the Q&A: - In the 'How to write music' video, you never said how you handle Layne's part, as both the percussionist and occasionally the baritone. How do you write for him? I seem to notice his parts go a little more 'above and beyond' in his tracks, is this because it's difficult to write for him? - Do you find it easier to write for VoicePlay, considering they have more voices, or for your own channel. (Though your voice does pretty much span the entire piano.) - How do you make sure everyone has a chance to shine in every song? Do you ever have difficulties 'fitting someone in'? Does anyone ever feel left out, of left to only do background harmonies? How do you deal with this, both yourself and everyone as a group? - (Less of a question, more of a plea) You said you sing every part, and then pitch up to the tenor parts. CAN WE HAVE CHIPMUNK GEOFF PLEASE? Also a cooking video would be brilliant. Suggestion: Show J.None how to make non-burned pancakes.

Marion Kuiper

I'm with everybody else; do what you need to do and we'll be here. Maybay you can combine stuff and just record the bedtime stories you read to William. I assume other children (and their parents) would like to hear you tell them bedtime stories in these difficult times

Stacey Post

If we're going back to Mr. Poe, may I just say that "The Masque of the Red Death" seems rather appropriate right now?

Rio

I'm glad you're taking a little break then and totally understandable, hope you're all well and stay safe! Huge congrats on the success of Sixteen Tons, that was a surprise hit, but also just such a perfect arrangement, you deserve it so much. 🎉 Actually, I couldn't be happier about this idea of doing another narration, I was just recently wondering when you might do another one of those, cause I love them so so much. I'm all in for that idea and regarding suggestions, well I loved the Poe stories, I think the Tell-Tale Heart is my favourite so far, your narrating style and speed in that one was just absolute perfection. Maybe you could look into some short stories/fairy tales by Hans Christan Andersen, I grew up hearing lots of those. Might be a great option, if they suit you, legth wise they should and they're all public domain. To just name a few: "The Last Dream of Old Oak", "The Little Mermaid" or "The Fir Tree" is amazing (though that one might be more perfect for Christmas time). But I'm open for anything, spooky stories, poems, fairy tales... there's so much great literature I have yet to discover, especially in English literature since that's not my mother tongue and the stories I had to read in English class were... well, not the most interesting ones. The music-questions I'll leave for other people to ask, I love learning new stuff from those Q&As, but I'm not musically educated enough to have any substential Qs. I'm excited regardless for what story you might decide on and the possible Q&A, but take your time, family comes first!

Amanda W

😞 Sorry to hear about the Covid exposure. I totally understand; been there, done that. Family comes first. Congratulations on "Sixteen Tons" success. It's probably the spaghetti arms; people got hungry and came for the pasta. Kidding; your arms look great. 😉

Margo Zimny

Come on Geoff, you have to realize that 16 tons is a great song. The combination of a testosterone laden song AND bass voice plus a good looking guy in a wife beater playing "manly" tools all leads to a LOT more people checking out the vid! Do it again and it might surprise you.

Rachel Tidwell

Great, now I have to go make brownies. Thanks Geoff

Geoff Castellucci

Fingers crossed for you! The nose swab isn't a bad test, it just makes you want to sneeze.

Geoff Castellucci

You have my wife to thank for the wardrobe in that video. I guess she knows what people like?

Margo Zimny

Here are a few suggestions: The McWilliamses and the Burglar Alarm. - Mark Twain The Boarded Window- Ambrose Bierce The Mocking Bird- Ambrose Bierce And then I posted earlier about Big John-Jimmy Dean

Geoff Castellucci

As for narration duration, feels like somewhere between 8-25 minutes is probably a good place to start. I'm not familiar with Usher II, but I'll look it up.

Geoff Castellucci

I had NO IDEA that the Little Mermaid was a Hans Christian Andersen story. 🤯

Sophie Llewellyn Smith

p.s. have you thought of singing 'Landslides' by Fleetwood Mac? Beautiful song.

Geoff Castellucci

J is hopeless. I gave him a stern talking to about those disgusting pancakes. 🤮

Tess

A. Brownies are delicious. B. sorry to hear about Little Man's school - hope you're all just fine. C. I nominate "the Sunshine Kid" by Harry Baker. Literally all of his poems are cool but I like "The Scientist And The Bumblebee" and "The Sunshine Kid" are my two favorites.

Leisha Slaughter

Congrats on the success of sixteen tons. It was awesome. As for having to pause things, don't worry about us. Being a parent comes first and your little man need you. As a teacher of young ones, I know they need a lot of nurturing. And I am happy to wait. I hope that he test prove that you are all covid free and so are those at his school. Take care. And hell yeah for fudgy brownies

Åse M Bruun Lagnestål

Congratulations for all the views of sixteen tons! 🥰 It’s a really good version of the old well known song. And the look of a “very old, androgynous, skinny, girlie man with spaghetti arms” is - I think - helping up the views. You listen with both ears and eyes and you are sooo good looking, so just stop calling yourself names. Please. 🙏 You do absolutely the right thing when you put the family first. Family is everything. ❤️ Keep safe and we’ll be here waiting. When it comes to reading, someone said the phone book - it’s okay by me. Or just read all your patron’s names. 😉 But I would really appreciate if you could do it in front of a camera. 😍 To watch you read would add another dimension to it. To the Q&As I have a question. When you arrange to VoicePlay you often have close harmonies, tight chords and quite advanced rhythms and I really love it. 💕 Has it ever happened that someone featured or one of the guys has not made it? Quite often I find that people I think are talented, have problems learning the tune even with rehearsal mp3 files. Any suggestions how to make it easier to learn? I don’t want the arrangement to sound too simple. ❤️🎶🥰

Stacey Post

It's Ray Bradbury's homage to Edgar Allen Poe, basically, so it fits in with your narration catalogue. And a story about fighting a world where art and creativity are outlawed, read by the most creative artist I know? It's a natural.

Stacey Post

Absolutely. And it had a very bittersweet ending, which prejudiced me against Disney's happy ending version, which basically obliterated the entire point of the story.

Mary 🦊

🙌🏻 fudgey brownies

Jess M

Yes, bittersweet is the perfect word for it. As a child i was sad about the ending, but at the same time I knew I had learned something important about doing what is right even if it means not getting what you want. The moral got lost in the Disney version. Still love the movie though. Our mom gave us bound editions of the fairy tale books by Hans Christian Andersen and The Brothers Grimm, when we were little. Still have them both.

New Earth Comics

Joined the conversation a little late, but I'm glad the little guy's alright and that his school is being smart! I do have a question, if that's something that ends up happening: As a fellow long-haired bass singer, what is your hair-care routine? Pseudo-related, I've been trying to get in better shape, but have a horrible time with diets (long story short, trying new foods was ruined for me pretty early on). What are some easy, healthy meals that maintain a good voice and physique that wouldn't be too scary to a mildly picky eater?

Stacey Post

So you're telling us that it wasn't you trolling us all this time, it was your wife? That's even more awesome and hilarious. Props to Kathy.

D McKim

Jamie, I hope surgery goes well. Hopefully you have a smooth recovery. No matter how small the surgery is recovery from it can still be a bear.

Michael Rooney

A suggestion for musical Q&A: What is the best way to handle recording multiple voices / parts? How do you best mix them a cappella style and what differences do you tend to see with instruments versus without instruments?

Amanda W

I would love to watch Geoff cook.

D McKim

I am unhappy that I can only like your comment once.

Faith

First, I’m so happy that the little man is good. That’s always scary. Mine is 14 and still terrifies me every day. Second, Sixteen Tons is doing so well for two reasons. 1-That bass and the harmony! On effing point! 2-Also because Dierks Bentley isn’t the only one who has a weakness for a white tshirt 😉

Echo Isles

On the song front, have you considered covering Nick Cave's "Ship Song"? It builds in a way that your range and talent could do magical things with.

Geoff Castellucci

Drink water, stay away from sugar and "food products" and you're 85% of the way there.

Celeste Shona Rey

Yesyesyes! I Nick Cave cover would be absolutely amazing!! When the one-man-one-woman supergroup is back in business, of course.

Rebecca Hendricks

So you have no room in your life for cakey brownies? I am so disheartened. Once we are able to travel again, I would happily cross the country for you (I live in British Columbia, Canada) and visit my relatives in Florida. While there, I would make you a batch of my SUPER moist and delicious cakey brownies. I believe, sir, you would not be disappointed. If you are, I promise to whip up a batch of my Fantasy Fudge (straight up fudge, no brownie) to balance what you missed the first time. You'd be surprised at the secret ingredient.
