Hey there! YouTube thumbnails are important. Which one would YOU click on? Leave me a comment and let me know. GROUP, WIDE, or CLOSE. This actually really helps a lot. Thanks in advance!

(Also, I'm 50/50 on that font, so tell me how you feel about it)

Kimberly Friend

Torn between the group and the close up. Also the font looks good

Alid Sinistra

3rd thumbnail- the closeup The eyes really sell it.

Rosie Boughen

I like the group pic :) The more Geoffs the better, right?

Nicolas Rodigas

I feel like the group photo should do best since it shows people the way the song is produced.. meaning one singer x4 for different harmonies etc. Hope that helps, love the song a lot <3

ZAYRAY!

Do you make your own thumbnails?? Cuz I would absolutely love to make your thumbnails for you.. I love the one with the closer you as theres a element of surprise when your clones join and I loved it.

Deb Roberts

I like the close shot. Also I’m with you being 50/40 on the font. Any other option?

Cynthia Ross

Solo pic, close up. I think the issue with the font is that it doesn’t stand out well, particularly against the yellow background. Maybe try it in other colors?

SamIAm

Love the font! It’s the group shot for me! I’d definitely go with that one.

Eileen Parkman

I'm immediately drawn to the group photo. It's intriguing as to how all the parts will play out (though I've already watched the video MANY times).

Alison L

I'd go with GROUP, the width of the image seems to fit best with the width/length of the title. It seems balanced, the font goes well with it too.

Rebecca Hendricks

Guess I'm the odd man out so far. I like the single zoomed out shot. Any way to get that as a print? 😉

Dominique

The group one does it for me. On one pic you can’t really see all the words.

Kikizara

Close. Font looks okay, but are there any other options?

xBlooddust

I always like the Group thumbnails. (And holy heck, it's House of the Rising Sun, I'm so excited!)

Julie La Porta

I like the solo shot (not the close one) so we can see the background too

Jojo Hale

I vote for the close up.

keppiebelle

They all look great, but the group shot is my favorite! The font is great too!!

Margo Zimny

I personally like the close up. 2nd would be the group.

MarkieMAN64

Group for me. On the fence about the font too, but enough folk are saying they like it, so I'll go with them.

Rita (idolanocircus)

I like the font! My personal favorite is the solo wide shot because you can see the background and there's the element of surprise when the other Geoffs show up ☺️

Tine

Close up.. although the group one is pretty good as well! Font is good, but could be a bit more bold perhaps.

SuZen

I’m liking the wide shot but they’re all good. And I’m 50/50 on the font also. Maybe something that stands out more?

Louise Bathurst

They're all great but I'd say either Group or Wide 💕

Jacklinka

What will be the size of a thumbnail? For a standard small pic, which is difficult to see anyway, it's better to choose a closeup (I'm a programmer :)) And the font is not seen very well on a small pic, must be darker/thicker/shadowy to make a contrast IMHO :)

Katie D

The close up speaks to me the most 💕 I, too, am 50/50 on the font, sorry I'm no help there 😕

Jancie Sheppard

I like the solo close up, but the group would work well too. That font looks nice, but doesn’t really stand out at a glance. Do you have other options, colors, or outlines/shadows?

Sophie Plourde

I like wide the best, just looks intriguing since it is just you. Group one is close 2nd though👍🏻 I like the font!

Hugmany Foemen

Long-shot or close-up solo (not that I object to multiple Geoffs ;-)) and not really sure the font is going to stand out enough, although it looks nice. That's my two-penn'th

Ann Myers

I like the wide, but most of the time the thumbnails on my phone or iPad are very small and I wouldn't be able to see who is in the thumbnail unless it is the close version. The font is fine but with it being partially transparent, it can be hard to read on a small thumbnail. Usually, I don't even see the text on the thumbnail, just the person.

Jess M

Don't know really, because every single one would get me interested. The close one is my personal favorite, but the group one could get more attention from people who aren't already waiting for your videos.

Jacob Mustian

I always love clicking on 4 geoffs

Tabby Livingstone

Number 3 I love them all but I'd love number three as a photo

Michael

Well, faces are always attractive for clicks (even closer than the third option) but for what the video is and what your audience is sort of used to, I'd probably go for the group picture as it (at least for me) made your videos somewhat recognizable as... well, YOUR videos

Veronica Thunander

Of course I’d click on all of them! But my favourite is the wide single shot. The group shot would be my second choice. I like the font!

Alaethea (Ali)

While I like the group, I worry that it's quite similar to misty mountains and 16 tons thumbnails as a group setting. So my vote is for close up as it'll show clearly in the thumbnail even on a smaller screen. Wide is my second choice. Although all of them are fine tbh. Font is a little hard to see on a phone, can the opacity be increased?

LadyGory

I think the group one is the best, most of your other thumbnails are groups as well so the consistency is nice 😊 The font is good but you might want to add a little more black shadowing behind the letters to make them more legible.

Angie Woollard

Group or close. I like the close one best, but the group one conveys more of what you’ll be getting with the video. I like the overall feel of the font - it works better on the group shot but is a bit harder to see on the close shot.

Rachael Heidi

Personally love them all but I would pick the CLOSE one. The font I kind of agree that there's something about it but I don't know what. The font works on the group photo but not as much on the close one imo. I think it's the drop shadow over your face that throws me off a little. OK now I like the group photo best. Final verdict - GROUP photo cause 4 Geoffs (HELLO! 😜) and I like the font on it best (coming from a web designer 😊).

Danielle Stinson

Font is great! I personally like the close shot.

ariel

I love the first one! The font is great as well.

Cindy Barber

I think either the group or the close up one. The font seems fine, I'm a bit torn on it too, but I think it works. That's my two cents

Gretchen G

Group. I think it'll get people excited about hearing all the Geoffs sing together again. 🙂 But I'd click on any of the three. I don't like how the text overlaps with your head in the close-up one. The font is nice, but maybe a little too fancy? Something a bit more rugged-looking might go better with the setting. Idk.

Tess

I like wide & I think the font is fine 😁

Hunter

I’mma say…..phhhh…..mmm…group. They are all good, but I think people love the group shots because it brings more of a wow factor? I guess. Group or close. And the font is nice. I personally go black on white outline, just to give it depth.

Sandra Ni

Well, as thumbnails are smallish on phones I'd prefer the close up. Fonts with serifs is a personal dislike with me, so I'm no help on that I suppose. But it would help if it wasn't semi transparent so one could read it better on a thumbnail.

Barbara Binney

I like the close-up with the group shot being a REAL close 2nd. The font is nice, but it doesn't stand out against the background.

Jess Teerlink

I also like the close up and group one

Lioba

I would say wide, as the House of the rising sun is the ruin of many of poor boys and it looks a bit like you are tied to the chair. Not sure about the font....more rugged....

Naomi Norwood

Close shot, but the font is too light for that composition. Increase the shadow layer behind it so it'll pop better like the other two shots.

Tra Mason

I really like the close up shot

Janet Towles

Close up shot is the best, but the font should change. The shape of it is nice, but because it is hollow it will be hard to read when scaled down to thumbnail size. I would go with a solid font. All caps is fine though, that looks good.

Nellie Daugherty

I think you cannot go wrong with any of the three. Of the three I prefer the close one. The font is good but needs to be dark, not light.

Jacklinka

For a big pic this font is wonderful, but for small one (real thumbnail size) it's a bit difficult to see (web programmer :))

Helen A

Close-up

Beth Comer

I like the middle range solo shot- not the close up or the 4 person this time. Don't really have any good reasoning for the preference this time, but there ya go.

Rhonda & Anna

I would go for the close one, but you may need to adjust the lettering as you kinda lose "Rising" in the candlelight

Remember

Third choice: Group with this font. I like the 4 Geoffs but you've done it before. My line of thought: new version of song, new version of thumbnail. Second choice: close with a different or darker font. It's a great pic but the font gets lost in the background. First choice: wide with current font but reluctantly. Again its a great shot but when you consider thumbnails, it may be hard to distinguish. Can we have a fourth option? Lol

Nadia Davì

Group! Font is nice but maybe in black?

Cat Hicks

Group and close drew my eye

Amélie Brodeur

They’re all great but I would be more likely to click on the group!

thomas maigler

I would like to see the group pic (although i like all three ... ). The font is good, i think.

Terry Ford

Group...It is unique every single time and will spark interest from those who do not follow you or who are surfing YouTube.

Mike Pearce

Close up. I think the font is good.

Nakeyae Street

Group shot. As for the lettering, try more of a chiller font to give it a spooky vibe

zxyelle

group! the font looks nice

Teresa Ritter

Any of them, but the group caught my eye most.

Pete Magill

Four Geoffs are better than one :) I think the font is fine. Legibility is important, so don't go crazy.

Debs Badger

My vote is for the CLOSE one. Reasons: (1) the group one is too much like others (16 Tons, Misty Mountains, Blackbird), (2) the group one gives away the *punch* factor of your clones joining in, since they aren't there from the get-go, (3) close one is easier to see on smaller screens, (4) close one isn't giving away too much at a first glance, get people intrigued! and (5) As a plus, that look on your face will just draw people in. 😁 As for the font, I'm not a fan. It doesn't stand out to my eye. Unsure if it needs color, or filling in, but it's unremarkable as-is. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dana

for a thumbnail, i prefer the Close-up photo. the Group shot is nicer, but shrunk down to postage-stamp size, i think the details might get lost. the font, though, might need a bit of a dark step-down shadow, because the white kinda starts to blend into the background near the word Rising (or might, for those with brighter screens or visual impairment?) 💗

Dylan

Close is best. Hard no on group. It's too much like other songs you've done. The wide shot may not show up well on mobile or get cropped weird. That close shot is intriguing. And also.... sexy. Use the close shot.

Kelsey June Garber

I like the one with all the Geoffs. Your background is really cool and I think it catches the eye so I think the shot should be wide, but the one with just a single Geoff leaves too much empty space and doesn’t grab attention as well. As for the text, I actually really like the font, but maybe you could give it some dimension? I think if it had a dark shadow lining it, it might pop a little better and it would match the shadowy mood you already have going. Hope any of that was helpful! I’m in love with the video and the arrangement! I’m excited for the rest of the world to see it!

Rio

I'd say the close-up! It's intruguing and mysterious. And doesn't give away the other 3 Surprise-Geoff-Clones! Also the font is great, I'd just maybe place it a bit different around your frame in the close-up thumbnail.

Marlo Schalesky

I'd say the group shot because of branding. For most of your songs where you there's more than one of you in the majority of the video, you show that in the thumbnail. This song is predominantly four of you in the video, so I would stick with how your personal brand is developing in that way. However, I would also suggest a lot more shading for the title as it's harder to read when it's small (like on my phone).

Danute (Dane) Paukstys

Close. The vintage items in the set are distracting and don't tie in to the song.

alice collins

I like the group picture, but I think the font needs to stand out more. It especially blends into the background in the small pic of the close up.

Amanda Hovendon

I love the font. I love the group one the best😁

Gamesz

Close 😎

Tara Congo

I think the group shot is more likely to intrigue people who don't know you - it would stand out as unique to someone just looking up "House of the Rising Sun" as a song. I don't mind the font, but as others have suggested, maybe some sort of shadow behind it to make it stand out a little more without being too crazy? It's a little hard to read on a phone. Random idea, maybe making the first letter of each word a little larger would look good? I also like the close shot, but not so much how the font overlaps your head and blends more with the background.

Sina Sörnsen

Close, don‘t really have an explanation it just jumped out at me most. I like the font but a little more contrast would be great, especially on smaller screens it could be a little hard to read

Keith Hartley

I really like the up close shot. And the font looks amazing!

Veronika Troll

I would click even if a chicken is on the thumbnail. But I suggest the close one. That's the best. Also the fond seems nice

A T

Close!

Judy Wilde

I like the close shot best. I also like the font, but it needs more color to stand out. Maybe some of the teal that was more in the wide shot.

Amanda W

What Dabs said.

Marylimea

Group. And I actually really like the font.

Amanda W

I second everything Debs said. Close up one.

Jennifer

I like the close up shot the best. I would move the font off of the top of your head in that shot and make it bolder or fill in because it gets a little lost in the background.

Hugmany Foemen

Marlo raises a very good point on the branding. Jiff, Jeff, Geoph and Geoff do appear on a lot of the others, so I'll back the group shot. Still concerned about the readability of the font.

Jessica

Close or wide

Rebekah Galy-Davis

Close-up, definitely. It’s the most impactful to me, but the font would need to be darker, as others have said.

Suzy Bailey

The group shot is more recognisable as your personal brand, but maybe not so easy to see as a thumbnail on a small screen. I'd choose the close up, it looks more intriguing especially with that mysterious look on your face. I like the font but not covering your head and agree it needs some shadow/shading to make it pop!

Tara Congo

You should ask us for our opinions on stuff more often, Geoff... Apparently we really like giving them, based on all the comments 😂

Arlene Jacobs

Number one or two. Maybe a little more fill in the font.

Debs Badger

I think you're just nicely saying we are an extremely opinionated bunch. 😜🤣

Gabriella Sejer

Font is great and i think CLOSE is the best. :)

Sophie Llewellyn Smith

Close. For me, the font is too classical (in the Roman sense, not in the music sense), so it doesn't match the vibe of the music. But most other people seem to like it, so what do I know...

Alisha Watson

I think the WIDE single shot is the most interesting to look at as it's different from your usual thumbnails. The group shot would be my second choice. The group shot fills the frame a little better, but sometimes, less is more. I like the font choice, but the closer the font gets to the lightbulb the more washed out it appears. Might need to darken it up a bit. If you do end up using the close-up, I would suggest moving the banner up and really darken the font. In that shot, the font is the hardest to read.

Andrew Weaver

I strongly prefer the first photo, but I agree the font's not right. It's too formal and it would be easier to read a bit darker, too.

Iris Mittelbach

I agree with CLOSE for the same reasons as Suzy mentioned.

Alisha Watson

Yeah, even if you don't use that as the thumbnail, that would make awesome print.

Barazion

Good font commonly used on grave markers, and keep the wide shot.

Sandy Mrotek

I agree with most of the people that the font needs to be a little darker but the CLOSE shot is the best.

Hector Solana

My humble two cents: Would not choose the Close one as it feels you are about to get interviewed (questioned)... But I would click on any of the other two. I too think the font should "jump out" more. "Thanks for asking so nicely"... 😉

Jamie T.

I like the wide shot & the font although I think Monotype Old English would look great if you have access to it.

John Rogers

I think we need autographed copies for sale! :)

SisterofWar

I mean, I'd obviously click on any of them myself, since I love your work. But if I were unfamiliar with your work, I would be most likely to click on the close-up. And while I quite like the font when put in the other 2 choices, with the close-up having a paler portion of the background, I might recommend a heavier font if you use the close-up.

Chantal Lardeau

I like more the 2nd photo and I thank toi that the Front need to be darker

RosaitaW

They all look nice! While I personally might click on the second or the third one because these two look more focused, and also because the story of the song has a kind of lonely feeling? The font could pop-out a bit more, it would be great to see them clear even if the picture is small I guess? By the way...you with the lighter in your hand are very cool too! :D

Miranda Rakers

Wow! Looks like I'm late to the party, not sure if another opinion at this point matters but I'd say solo shot with a less formal font in a darker color, but heck, you could use an actual thumbnail for the thumbnail and we would all still click it anyway! Good luck with the results of this poll!

Kayo

Group catches the eye the most. As such, I think that would be most likely to draw new people in. So in terms of a YouTube thumbnail, I’d go with that. (Anyone who already knows you will listen regardless of what you choose… ;) ) If I were picking a cover for a CD or something where the function of the picture isn’t the attention grabber but rather the best representation of the song/your take on it, I’d go with wide. As for font, my only objection is where it touches your head. That bothers me like punctuation errors in books or a fly on the wall of a nice restaurant. Totally distracting and makes it hard to appreciate the rest of the subject at hand. 🙄🤷‍♀️

Sandra Ni

Well, it usually ends up like ask 50 people, get 100 opinions 😂 I wonder if Geoff sits in his room and ticks off each option of those 140odd comments 😂 😂 Might take a while 😉🤣

Veronica Thunander

I’ve read through many of the comments and agree that the text probably should be a little more prominent. I don’t have any good suggestions for how to do it, but it’s not very visible as it is.

Alisha Watson

In retrospect, maybe we should have put our choices in capital letters to make it a little easier to scan through. I just fixed mine. Sorry for the wordiness, Geoff😆 I just thought the explanations might help with your decision.

Alex Walker

You see it all when you click on it.

Penny Cummings

I like them all! How in the world can people pick?!

BenjaminDeFox

I would say WIDE because for me it just catches the feel of the song the most

New Earth Comics

I'm a big fan of the group shot, as it kind of teases what the listener is in for; gets the excitement going early, though the wide shot is definitely a close contender. The close-up may be particularly good for another profile image though, if you were looking to update any of them.

Christina Dowdican

I personally like the group shot. I mean the more Geoff's to look at the better😎. I like the font as is. Love the new song/video. ❤️🙂😊

Amy Kutnerian

Oh man...as much as I love the wide shot, I think the group photo would look better on a small screen. Group is my vote 😊

Liz Munro

The group is my favourite but I think the last picture so people get a surprise when the group comes on in the video

Alex Walker

To attract new people, I think the close-up is better, it's like some mystery hides behind it, and calls them to check it out. With the bright background, I think the font should be darker, or fuller, or both.

PJ

Close 100% You’re a chick magnet, Geoff

Rianne Meyer

The group shot is my vote...

Olivia

I like the close one the best.

Hana Keindlová

My vote is for the third one, the close-up. Based on two things - 1. now the addition of your clones would be a pleasurable surprise and 2. your latest video on ytb already had 4 Geoffs so I would suggest a change to the solo one. And from those were it is you only, I would go for the close-up one as the thumbnails are really small and this would catch the eye better. And speaking about font, I would say the font itself fits a lot, just the white colour is almost invisible for a thumbnails. As much as I love all the variations, the main problem is that the thumbnail is really small for details and should be slightly mysterious and provoking in order for people to click to it.

Celeste Gosling

Yeah, I think I would vote for the close up of just 1 Geoff. I don't think the font really works though, but I'm not sure what font would be better. It's really awesome that you have asked your patrons for feedback about this!! It makes it feel like we are a part of the process which is nice,

Cal W

I was going to say the close up one but the candle makes the font a bit hard to read, so I think the wide shot

Margaret McLain

Wide, you can overdo the group photo. The font works just fine as long as there’s enough background contrast. Too dark=in your face.

Isabelle Taye

I like the wide but see what you mean about font. It feels lost in the image. Maybe try something that is more "filled in"?

Gretchen G

Hmm, the close up one is kind of growing on me, actually. 🙃 Without the text across the top of your head though.

Gregory Topolski

I would say wide. It immediately gives someone an impression of what the production is going to be like, and I think that reels them in.

Shelley Millar

Close up shot with a solid bold font.

The Fire Piper

Closeup, and definitely a more contrasting font

Jacklinka

Is there any option to create polls? Because 180 comments are not human-readable.

Dominique

Exactly my point!

Alex

The Close up shot

D McKim

The close up shot is better because thumbnail images are so small when you consider most people are on a smartphone.

Brad Tobin

The close up caught my eye first...Soooo, I will vote for the close up :)

Cyd Vishus

Wide, it makes me think it's only one of you so leaves a bit of a surprise plus the tvs in the background are awesome

Shari Ann Creamer

I say group. Seeing the four of you will tip off non-fans that "Hey, is that the four of the same guy who did 16 Tons?" I don't find the font objectionable.

Doug Beck

Really like the close in views. The font is great!
