Back in 2021 I was looking for some halloween music on YouTube! At the time I was following Elisabeth (The Carismatic Voice) and I got a suggestion with her going yhtou

Mythos Myths

Original was good. Reshoot was amazing. 😎

C Wyatt Johnson

The first pass would have been okay, but the second one was absolutely amazing. I loved the costuming and personality given to Drac, the Wolfman, and the Monster.

Marcello Bass

I’ve been dying to see the take 1 of the video

Lioba

Thank you so much for sharing! 🎃

Tine

When you said you made an unintentional horror movie, I wasn't quite sure what to expect.. but wow that was absolutely terrifying indeed.. Definitely take 2 was a lot better. Loved the footage of you rehearsing the dance a lot, shows how much your job consumes your life, whether for good or for bad, I'll leave that up to you to decide lol. Thank you SO much for sharing this, the final product is spectacular!

Jancie Sheppard

How to put in contacts: get Layne to do it for you 😂 Thank you for showing us the horror!

Caitlin Binedell

Wow! That first one was super scary. 😆 It turned out perfect though, so all worth it in the end huh? Thanks for sharing this with us!!

Viktoria Kovacs

Yassssssssss! The quality content I look for!!! Those contacts do look terrifying.

Margo Zimny

I'm so glad you took the time to redo the video! The 2nd one is so much better.

Alison L

Thanks for sharing, the final video was worth it for those of us watching, hope it was for you too. P.S. not sure I could let someone else put contacts in for me! They are a pain sometimes though

Amanda W

🤣 Thank you. Kathy recording you through the glass door... 😂 Layne putting your contacts in. I'm glad you moved Drac over next to you in take 2.

Alaethea (Ali)

Those contacts suck to wear, normal contacts are so much more comfortable than special effect ones.

Angie Woollard

Thank you so much for sending us this BTS. Everything was so fascinating to see - that first take was definitely creepier! Layne putting in your contacts...that's true love right there...

Jerome

I was laughing out loud while watching this. My wife asked what was going on, I started to sing in a deep voice (er, not really) "This is the mash! The mash making". I think I am on a new tune here! Or maybe not... Had this music stuck in my head for days now. Curse you, creators... ;-)

LadyGory

I think the most horrifying thing for me about this video was poor Geoff trying to get those contacts in 😆 that looked soooo uncomfortable. But the three original monster Geoffs were legit terrifying also, I definitely see why you wanted to do a reshoot. At least if you ever really wanted to make a horror video you already know you’d be great at it! 😄 Thank you for sharing!!

Maggie S

Yay! Thank you for showing us the horror-movie version. The retake was definitely worth the effort. Much better!

Lois McCray

You're right the first one was a Horror film. So glad you did the reshoot. You're also right about Kathy being a very lovely dead wife. Did she really do that scream at the end? It was amazing. Truly enjoy all the behind-the-scenes footage you grace us with. Thank you for all your hard work to keep us entertained.

Tiina Nyrhinen

Oh yes, contacts suck 🙈 Those look good, but oh the struggle to put them on 😱 And sure, take 1 really was a horror film 😂😨 Good job with the second one 👌

Rosie Boughen

Grilling Geoff doing the Minster Mash dance was 😘👌 Thank you, Kathy! 😂 And thank you, Geoff, for posting this. We’ve been hoping for the Take 1 version, and it did NOT disappoint! (But like, I’m glad you re-shot it…)

Gretchen G

Oh goodness, Kathy did look pretty dead in that first one there! And you looked like you might shuffle off at any moment in search of some brains to eat! 😅 Thanks for sharing the horror film. It just highlights how great the final product is!

Raevon

Thank you for showing us the Horror movie version and yes, I definitely did get Exorcist vibes. As for those contacts, I have worn them and my eyes hate me for them everytime I did, so I know the pain. Take 2 was amazing! And as for Kathy, she was a beautiful undead bride. <3

Katie D

The first version is hilariously horrifying and I love it 🤣 but yes, version 2 was definitely the right one. Much less creepy, much more amusing, and fit the tone of the song much better in my opinion. Thank you for sharing this with us! 💗

Sophie Plourde

Wow crazy how much it has changed!! The Linda Blair thing genuinely scared me omg😳 I'm glad you reshot it😂

Helen A

You're right, that first version of the makeup had a very "Exorcist" vibe that didn't suit the goofy fun of the song and dance nearly as well. And yeah, it looked like you were waltzing an actual dead person around on take one, so I'm glad Kathy became more fun zombie and less fresh-from-the-funeral! Thanks for this glimpse of the creative process, good, bad, and super-creepy. The zombie dancing by the barbecue made me laugh, but also really appreciate the 'deadication' you put into making everything perfect. Now I love the finished video even more. 🧛‍♀️

Tiredlady

Thank you for sharing! The first was very creepy, the second was much better! Thank you for taking the time to do the reshoot!

Penny Cummings

Wonderful! But too short... Then again, I always think the BTS are too short. :D

Doug Beck

Just shows how the little details can impact the end results. You persevered and got it great!

Dee Herrera

The BTS are so much fun! The first shoot was much more spooky, but the second was more merry. Kathy is beautiful dead or alive! I am loving these “perks”!

Alisha Watson

So glad you went with the second take. First one was definitely a little over the top, but that makeup did look excellent. At the "Linda Blair moment", with the slowed down music, I didn't know whether to laugh or be mildly creeped out.

Hugmany Foemen

Geoff, you are indeed the darling man! This and all the Halloween extras you are producing? And on top of The Really, Really Big Project (you tease!)? You and Kathy are truly putting in the graft for those Patreon dollars and I truly harbour not one regret at my tiny contribution towards your creativity, other than I wish it could be more. Thank you, thank you, thank you, both <3

Carol Franklin

I’m really glad you had the stamina to do this twice because the end product was great. I’ve seen some reactors creeped out by the finished video God knows what they would have made of take 1. Always lovely to see the behind the scenes just to appreciate how much trouble you go to for us to have something wonderful to see & listen to thank you

Alex Walker

Yep, second take is the one! I even like the makeup better, the first was 'more greener' 🤣

Sarah Roberts

That was creepy! Glad to see it though. Loved that you did the count reference while in vampire clothing.

Gillian Drysdale

poor Geoff! You really trust Layne to let him touch your eyes. I also wonder if your neighbours could see you rehearsing - Come quick Geoffs being strange again! like living opposite Samantha in bewitched.

Eileen Parkman

Thank you so very much. That really made a bad day so much better! 💚

Sandy Mrotek

Absolutely wonderful. Love the BTS things that you all do. It just shows how much talent you all have and how you use it. Always look forward to any and all BYS things you share with us. Thanks.

Kaleigh Henderson

As someone who needs optical assistance on the daily, I had to go through the struggle of contacts every. single. day. For months! After about a year I was like, yep, nope, I'mma stick with my glasses, thank you very much. Too bad the ones you got stuck with were, to use an antique Layne saying... #SHIDDY.

Randiskye

Definitely . . . different. The final video was more 'all ages', but the BTS was really fun to watch! Awesome job as usual!

Amanda Hovendon

Oh my god I needed this thank you so much😍😍😍

Hugmany Foemen

Yep, can you imagine being their neighbour and hearing/seeing something freaky while you have guests round; Guest: OMG! What the heck is going on!!?! You: No sweat, it's Tuesday, Geoff does that on Tuesdays...

Debs Badger

I guess I'm the only one who expected WAY WAY scarier than THAT. 🤣 BUT...that being said, I definitely get that the first take did *not* jibe with the feel of the arrangement, it was definitely too dark for *that*. So, 2nd takes suck to have to do, but I think it turned out okay in the end. 😁 I am amused at the contacts stuff, but then again I wear them regularly (regular ones, not costume ones). I do get what you mean about how the costume ones feel though, my eye doctor explained that they are designed to cover just a wee bit beyond the iris (bigger diameter) for the effect, so they can be a bit more irritating. Probably moreso for someone who doesn't wear contacts on the regular.

Sarah Reach

I definitely appreciate this BTS, and it makes me appreciate the final product even more. When I first saw the description in the final video about the reshoot leading to losing Rick's professional makeup I was devastated for you. Now having seen it, I am glad you went with Kathy's makeup skills, Rick is simultaneously *too good* (realistic), yet not as good as I had imagined (over the top, prosthetics). I am glad that you realized that you missed the mark as soon as you did and were able to adjust the tone to the cornball amazingness that was the final product. Finally, you said that you wished to give us nightmares this Halloween - I think that first edit might just do the trick ;)

Sophie Llewellyn Smith

Super fun! Thank you so much for your talent and hard work, Geoff (and everyone else involved)!

Satu Allonen

Thank you for the BTS Geoff, those are always super fun and interesting to watch. I agree that the first one didn’t suit the mood of the song as well as the second take, good job doing it again and not just settling with the first one. As for the contacts, well, I’m an ophtalmologist (eye doctor) and I just find it so hard to believe that putting in contacts can be so hard. But then again, there are many things I find difficult that are easy for others so maybe it all evens out in the end!

Hugmany Foemen

I used to wear regular contacts and they were a PITA. Then I realised, I am not a morning person and that level of co-ordination was way beyond my bleary morning self...

Veronika Troll

Lots and lots of work! I always appriciate and enjoy these BTS videos, thank you for showing the process! :)

Gillian Drysdale

then they get to see him in full viking or pirate mode ….. that’s Thursday taken care of then!

candi lunsford

Thanks Geoff! I love that you went to so much work because the second take was so much better--400,000 of us can't be wrong! Did you ever once think in high school that Layne would be putting contacts in for you? LOL

Olivia

Thank you so much for reshooting it. The more bigger and more colors really did wonders. And yeah, contacts can be terrible. It took me two visits to the optometrist before I could get mine in.

Glynda

I loved this so much! Thanks for sharing it with us!

DnD Addict

I am crying with laughter at the horror shoot. I get why you reshot the whole thing. No one would have made it all the way through

Suzy Bailey

What a great bts, it's always so interesting to get a glimpse into the effort and creativity that goes into your fantastic videos. The horror movie version looked amazing but definitely was a bit too much for the humour/goofiness of the actual song, so glad you had the opportunity (and energy) to reshoot it. The lighting, costumes, Kathy's make-up, everything was wonderfully spot on! Thank you for all your hard work to bring smiles and happiness to us all.

Clare Corre

All of your productions are high quality productions, and this was no exception. It shows you really care about your craft. The final version was definitely an improvement on the first trial. You are an awesome entertainer as well as an awesome vocalist. Thanks so much for sharing.

Hugmany Foemen

Frankly, I quite like the 'dark' MM, but I can quite see how it would have turned a lot of folk away. The user-friendly version was worth all the duplicated effort and is certainly racking up the views. So good to see what went on and how the creative mind can identify the issues, re-think, revise and refine to achieve perfection. {chef's kiss}

Rebecca Hendricks

Yup. That was an accidental horror movie. Those contacts are nit only nightmares themselves, but they may cause nightmares. Yikes! I'm glad you stopped it when you did because I don't handle horror movies very well. Thanks for sharing, Geoff. You're the best!!

Jacklinka

I really love the horror version! It's a bit overcreepy but in a right way. The shots are too good, maybe you can occasionally use them further? But I completely agree with Kathy "less dead" variant. I would say even less dead than the last version. Regarding the monsters dancing, did you speed up the movements on production? I looks like this technique, but not that clear.

Rachael Heidi

OK, I LOVED this video as well! I laughed out loud at your captions way too much but that's my kind of humour. Thanks for sharing the horror film haha. You're right, it's quite scary but also very cool! Much appreciated 😊😊.

D McKim

I agree that the makeup didn't fit the feel of the song, the backup singers were lacking in color and all of them having the cataracts contacts made them less engaging. Also, having them sit on the ground was a bit awkward. The second was definitely better, Kathy was an excellent corpse or zombie.

Karyn Morrison

I see why you wanted to change it. Knowing the time and effort that went into the video you released makes me appreciate it even more. Thank you for sharing

Rosie Boughen

Guest: Earthquake?!! Neighbor: Don’t worry, it’s just Subharmonic Geoff.

Rosie Boughen

Guest: Tornado?!! Neighbor: F1, yes… but not a tornado. Just Geoff again.

Eileen Parkman

I do like the look for the first day monsters, but I agree with all your choices for the second day shoot especially the changes in costuming and eyes which better defined the individual characters. It made for a much "friendlier" video. All the kids I've shown it to LOVED it and my grandkids were horribly disappointed today at their dance concert and trunk-or-treat event when the original played. They both think your version is MUCH better. ;)

Janet Wright

I am glad you decided that only VladGeoff had to wear the contacts. You were absolutely terrifying. But it is a shame to waste the hard work. Two ideas: 1)You should make a still shot of version one and make Halloween cards for people you don't like! And 2) use that shot of you X 3 for wallpaper for your computer or phone. And make it available to us!! That would be an excellent perk! And I loved Kathy's more dead dancing. I know it is hard work, but it must have been so much fun! 🎃

Primal Skies: an Urban Romp in the Vampire Midwest

how fun! as a writer I'm always fascinated to peek behind the curtain and see how and why things work (or don't work). and as a seasoned veteran with contacts, I sympathize mightily.

PJ

You have so much trust in Layne 😂 I would DIE if anyone tried to put contacts in my eyes

Emily

Thanks so much for this and all of your hard work! Also, I really identify with the contact struggles. A few months ago I tried contacts instead of glasses for the first time and after a good deal of struggle and frustration I think I've decided to just stick with glasses.

Ruth Feiertag

What was really creepy was when you had in only *one* of the contacts and were half-dead or semi-spooked! And the book was titled _Cattelucci_? Have you read it?

Ruth Feiertag

This was neat to watch. Thanks. What is your house like on Hallowe'en?

Åse M Bruun Lagnestål

THANK YOU! ❣️ An extra big thank you for this one. ☺️ Now I totally understand what you meant when you said you did a horror movie. 😱

Barbara Binney

Oh my goodness. Rick’s make up was amazing, but I’m so glad you chose to re-shoot. The unintentional horror movie version was way too intense for a novelty song. However, I do prefer more deader Kathy’s make up and dancing.

Veronica Thunander

When you said that the first version was too horror-movie-like I didn’t believe you ‘cause I think the final version is so fun! But after watching this, I agree, it really was quite ‘horrory’... 😀 I’m glad you chose to share this with all of us!

Pete Magill

Thanks, fun to see BHS! You clearly strive to do great work, enduring plenty of pain, figurative and real!

Erica Kozlowski

I’m so glad we got to see the infamous horror movie-esque take one! Also loved Layne putting in your contacts 😂 This was awesome. Thank you so much for sharing!

Jamie T.

Just watching the contacts struggle alone was enough horror for me, LOL. I basically have to be tied down if I even need eye drops! As someone who does NOT do scary I definitely like the 2nd version better so good choice. 😁

Jojo Hale

Aaaaahhhhhh thank you for sharing the horror movie version with us! Hahaha it definitely was very Regan-esque from Exorcist.

Jojo Hale

Also props to Layne for being your contacts-installer. Takes a steady hand and lots of trust!

Sunniva Melhuus

Ikr, this is a trust fall I would not do with many people 😂 And this comes from someone who had one year worth of contacts that needed to be “scraped” of my eyeballs using my nails.

Katrin

Enjoyed the BTS so much and the “contact” war made laugh (wearing contacts for 30ys now). I love the more colorful version of the set even if the first one was impressively dark. Great choice to re-shoot the whole song :) so, this was my first message as a new Patron. Greetings from Italy

Liz Munro

That was absolutely HILARIOUS and I completely LOVED the first more horror movie shoot. Layne was such a sweetheart helping with the contact lenses, I’m actually allergic to contacts so I can’t wear them. THANK YOU for this BTS

Christine Stromberg

You people are just fabulous and adorable. And so funny.

Jennifer Richmond

I've used costume ones in the past, and when I researched them, they said the same thing about them being more irritating. Full sclera ones are the worst. They're just so thick.

Jennifer Richmond

I also want the evil version as a still. I would buy a print! Hint, hint. But, yes, the reshoot was better overall. Video was more dynamic, more family friendly, and I definitely appreciated the bigger set. Thanks for all the effort you guys put in to make such cool videos. I love every one. (Halloween is my favorite, though, so I'm especially partial to those.)

C Wyatt Johnson

Thanks for sharing the bts!. It was fun seeing the first pass, and I agree the second pass was a lot more entertaining. The first one would have been good, but the second was great.

Wendy Chen

Thank you for sharing! It was very interesting to see the BTS view. The first one was certainly more creepy! Enjoyed them both.

Andrew J Kessler

By far one of my favorites that you did. Thank you for showing the first pass at it. Also love seeing the dynamic between you and your wife.

Jay

The first version is much darker and the three dancing Geoffs don't look distinct from each other enough. Reshoot was definitely worth it, turned out amazing :)

Kenneth Finnegan

I’m curious Geoff, what does a production like this cost you? It looks expensive.

Anna L

It's so interesting to get a bit of insight into the making of these videos, bumps and all. I think all the "moar" added to the reshoot definitely made it worth it!
