...And that's a wrap on 2021. Can you believe that it's come and gone already?

I said a lot in the preamble for this one, so I'll keep this post short and sweet.

This year was one for the books to be sure and I hope I'm leaving you with a little something mournful, melancholy, hopeful, and beautiful.

Thank you all for being here; you're the very best of company.

I *literally* just ran up the stairs to my computer after getting this notification. Your day of hype worked, dude. This song is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for allowing yourself to take a risk with us. ETA: Okay, so those were tears of *pain* and *horror* and probably *laughter* at the out of tune piano in your last teaser. You really had me going there.

Emily Dion

How do you manage to just make me cry so dang easily?

Amy Thomas

THANK YOU!! This song is full of memories for me. I attended a college in Virginia in 1998. We sang this song in our Traveling Choir. You have outdone yourself, sir. Many thanks, and Happy New Year.

Eileen Parkman

Jojo Hale

Excellent! Love the build. And your face of absolute pain at that off key piano at the end… sorry for finding that so funny. Happy new year and thank you for another awesome one, G and K!

kris ivy

Keep taking chances. Those tend to be my favorites.

Olivia

That was absolutely beautiful. Never heard it before, and not the type of song I would normally listen to, but it was lovley, well done. And that bts clip was horrible, I am so sorry for your ears.

keppiebelle

Margo Zimny

Absolutely beautiful.... I love the song " Shenandoah" and you did it proud. Your slight drawl fit in perfectly with the mood and location from the song. I loved to hear your range and the arrangement definitely didn't disappoint. Well done!!!

Ellen L Brownell

I’m certainly glad I had those Kleenex handy. So beautiful. Thank you, Geoff. It’s a privilege to be one of your patrons.

María Gabriela

Ciarah Pacheco

The song is perfect! Thank you for doing this one. *tears* 😭 Happy New Year to you, Kathy, and William! 🎉

Maggie S

I cried. This took me back to my childhood. I love this song. It was our sixth grade music class recital piece. You, sir, have done it more than justice. This maybe the most beautiful rendition I have heard to date. Thank you 🙏💜

Sophie Plourde

Aaaand I'm crying 😭 This is beyond beautiful (and guess who's gonna learn the piano part tomorrow😉) Its so wonderfully choral and I love hearing your higher range!!❤️🥺

Marcello Bass

Absolutely incredible! Love the risks your taking in this one with that completely exposed fist verse and with the song being a less upbeat one in general. Also how can someone allow for a piano to be so perfectly imperfect

Liz Munro

I’ve never actually ever heard this song before(until this video)but it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL

Angelic

Beautiful!

Margaret McLain

I’ve loved this song since the first time I heard it, at least 60 years ago during the folk music revival. Thanks for an absolutely wonderful cover.❤️

Terry Ford

Such a great song and excellent arrangement! Great job as always, Geoff!

Shannon W

I didn't think I'd cry. Yep, it got me. I cried. Such a pretty version of this song. Great way to close out the year.

Snappy

I didn't know this song before but this is beautiful 💖

Judy Wilde

As soon as you said a half step low, I slapped my hand to my forehead and groaned. I knew exactly what that meant, and don’t know how you managed to make this beautiful video. (I don’t have perfect pitch, but even good relative pitch made the ‘BTS’ portion unbearable ) You’ve once again proven that your voice is smooth and beautiful while singing across your range. Thank you for a memorable 2021. I wish you, Kathy and William all happiness, health and prosperity in 2022!

Allison Waldron

Laying here, getting over Covid listening to this. I've spent many vacations in Shanandoh. This is as beautiful as the views there. Thank you Geoff for helping me remember those wonderful times.

Lady D Richter

Just absolutely lovely as always! A wonderful addition to my lullaby list! A blessed new year to you and your family! Hugs!

Katie D

I've heard of this song, but had never actually heard it, until now. Geoff. This was absolutely stunning. Thank you so much for this beautiful rendition. Thank you for everything, and I hope you and your beautiful family have a happy New Year! 💕 Also, the look of abject horror on your face at the end...you poor man.

Jordi S

It makes my heart glad to make it possible for you to do the songs you want to do! This song is beautiful 💖💖💖. That piano is a really special treasure......

Dominique

What a beautiful choice of song to end the year with. It was breathtakingly beautiful and melancholy at the same time. Here's to many, many more Patrons for you and thank you for keeping us so wonderfully entertained in 2021. Cheers to you and have a fantastic 2022!

Jessie

Wow! Absolutely beautiful!!!

Michelle G

I'm not familiar with the song but it sounds lovely. The clip with the out of tune piano, though... the things you and Kathy endure for your art 😆 Hope you and your family will have a wonderful 2022

Gretchen G

First impression: This may be the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Seriously, I can't think of anything that even compares to it at the moment.

Hana Keindlová

I never knew I need the cover of Shenandoah from you until now. There's a cover of this song in my language as well which I kinda know better than original and now I have your heartouching, ear-pleasing version which I can enjoy. Thank you! Joining your Patreon was one my best decisions and I am really proud of it. Being just a tiny mini part of your journey here is absolutely worth it. I dare to say you made a hell of a progress and I love to watch that. And I already can't wait what the new year is going to bring to us all. Pretty please, if you ever get to read this comment, please send my warmest greetings to Kathy, as she is huuuge part of this all and she deserve all the best as well! It was so adorable what you say in the beginning of the video about her, you are such a sweet and admirable couple. Sir, it was an honor to watch your journey so far and I am looking for another year with this huge Patreon family of yours. Happy new year!

Tara Congo

That was an absolutely lovely cover, Geoff - it's such a melancholy folk song and you did it great justice. Beautiful arrangement, playing, and singing (as always). We're here for any risks you want to take! Side note: I'm almost more impressed by your acting than singing in this one - how'd you manage to emote your way through playing that ghastly piano??

Kaleigh Henderson

The amount of emotion here... I can't even fathom it. You poured your soul into this song, and it's so poignant and touching and beautiful. I truly have no words other than thank you. I wish you and yours all the best for 2022.

Jasper_Tree (They_Them)

I’d never heard this song before, but now I’m unexpectedly crying in the middle of a rural train station. 😅 That was beautiful. Thank you Geoff, and Happy New Year to you, Kathy and all the patreons 💚

Alisha Watson

Congratulations on the 1000 patrons!🎉 As others have said, this is truly beautiful. Makes me think about hiking The Appalachian Trail and seeing the Shenandoah Valley. *sigh* One day...That piano at the end had me dying laughing, though🤣 Hope you have a Happy New Year!

Karyn Morrison

Not a song that I am familiar with, but it's a beautiful song, and a great way to end the year

LadyGory

Wow this was really beautiful and soothing 🥺 I’ve never heard this song before, but I’m glad my first time was your version. Everything you put out is gold

WisconSims

I absolutely love this song! It's the first tune I learned to play halfway decent (and if I'm honest, the only one) I learned on the harmonica. My daddy taught me <3 Before that, I played it as a clarinet solo in my high school orchestra. I've loved it since I was just little, and you have done a stunning rendition. Happy new year, Feliz año nuevo, frohes neues Jahr, and hugs and kisses xoxo

Helen A

Congratulations on the giant flock of Patrons, well deserved! And mad respect for playing through the pain on that piano. Yikes! Honestly, I wasn't quite sure I was gonna like this one through the first verse, but when Geoff #2 took over the lead in that lovely baritenor I did a complete turn around, and by the end I was grinning like a fool. Gorgeous work by the 2 harmony Geoffs, and a really beautiful arrangement of this very classic song.

J.L.

Happy to have help blowing your mind and let you take beautiful risks like this one. And yes indeed, keep Kathy happy! And that piano... Ouch! And yet you got this lovely, captivating song done. Bravo, Geoff, and thank -you- for sharing your creations with us. Can't wait to see what you will bring in 2022. (c:

Carol Cook

Wow - So beautiful!! Thank you! - and Happy New Year!

Huldra Draco

Geoff, we need more of Geoff standing by the piano. More of that please. That is such a gorgeous voice, wasn't even missing any bass at all while that Geoff was singing! Your baritone range is so gorgeous, I could have listened to this whole song without a single bass note, that's how beautiful it was!

Hunter

LONG COMMENT INCOMING!!! Let me collect my thoughts and wipe away the tears from my cheeks. Once you said the title, I gasped like I never gasped before, not only is this song gorgeous and our buddy Peter Hollens got me hooked on it, and once the piano started, blubbering mess. This year has been amazing but also one of trial for me. I'm come right out and say it: Break ups during pandemic suck! And supporting you throughout this year makes me realize that there is indeed one love in me that will never EVER die, that is Music. My eternal love. Thank YOU Geoff for this beautiful rendition of a beautiful song, Have a fantastic 2022 and I cannot wait to see what's in store for next year! P.S. Could not be more proud to be supporting you!

Erica Kozlowski

Oh my goodness, that was incredible! This one brought back a little nostalgia for me… this was often the audition piece I was required to sing for various choirs I was in back in high school (I’m now almost 30… definitely part of the O.B.S.). An absolutely beautiful arrangement of this piece. Also got a great cringe and a great laugh at the flat piano at the end! Happy New Year! 🥳❤️

Amanda Hovendon

My parents and I used to take trips to Virginia to visit my aunt and her family and we always drove past Shenandoah National Park. Omg what a site that was! Especially in the Fall. I miss those trips❤️❤️ I think this is the first time I’ve ever heard this song. What a beautiful song! That made me tear up a little bit. Thank you Geoff. And Happy New Year to you, Kathy, and William. P.S Can we please get more videos of you playing the piano? 😀

Debs Badger

Geoff...this is an absolutely stunning rendition of a beautiful song I haven't thought of in years. Thank you for taking the risk on this one. I love it. Last year, when you released "High and Dry," I said the following (and it applies now as well): Keep experimenting. Keep going after those things you feel passionate about. We've got you. 💕

Alid Sinistra

Thank you. My daughter was part of a state choir one year and they sang that song. I can't wait to share this with her and my grandsons. 😍 Also, I'm pretty sure we could see some of your pain on your face when you began playing that piano. When I could actually hear it at the end the near-tears of nostalgia and appreciation turned to tears of pain in sympathy for you and everyone else with ears in that room!

Susan Smith

As much as I love you, I wasn't sure that you could live up to the hype of the last few days. Boy, was I wrong! You once again went beyond anything I could have hoped for! Thank you for all the joy that your music has given me this past year. Happy new year.

Jude L

Absolutely incredible. This song has such a special place in my heart and this rendition is lovely and magnificent.

Amanda W

Oh my heart! 💗 😭😭😭 And that piano! ⚰💔😭😭😭 Is that what made you cry?

Tine

We had no idea what to expect. The endless teasing was 100% worth it. Thank you so much Geoff. What an incredible masterpiece you have given us yet again. Unbelievably beautiful. Keep taking risks and keep trying what you feel works as it shows so much in the end result. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

Cynthia Peterson

When I heard that you were going to be doing this cover, I almost cried. I have loved this song since I was a kid (years and years ago lol). You did a wonderful rendition and I was not disappointed. Happy New Year to you and Kathy and William!

key of light

I actually gasped when you said the title! I love this song! It brings up some wonderful, touching memories for me. I'm proud to be counted among the supporters of your high-quality, heart-felt and soul-moving music.

Michael Rooney

This was absolutely amazing, Geoff! I’ve always loved this song since I sang it in choir when I was in college. It’s a very difficult song to do well, but you knocked it out of the park like you always do. 😍

Jennifer L. Cramp

I've always loved this song and you more than did it justice. I've listened to it several times before commenting. I loved all the parts, but your rich bass part sealed the deal. Such a beautiful and emotional cover. I also liked how all the Geoff's interacted with each other. High and Dry has been my favorite, but Shenandoah is my new favorite. Oh, and the expression on your face at the end - priceless! Awesome job Geoff! I'm glad Kathy likes it too, she's awesome. 💜💜💜

Coda

Beautiful song! I haven't heard the original before but I had a big smile while listening to this. Thank you for an amazing year, I hope 2022 will be great for you!

ObscureReferenceWoman

Ok, I am crying now. Beautiful song, and beautifully done. Perfect arrangement, as usual. (But oh, that out of tune piano! You're a saint for dealing with that!) Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year. You've made my 2021 better than it could have been, and I look forward to more in 2022.

Huldra Draco

and Geoff, from the bottom of my heart. I am truly sorry for the pain you had to go through to make this video for us. that piano was.... *shivers* horrendous. don't be afraid to take risks, if it's something you are passionate about, it will show! ❤❤

Carol Franklin

That was absolutely beautiful. It’s lovely to hear you doing different things to other people I’ll always support that. I nearly cried! Then I heard the piano at the end & I choked laughing!! It’s 2.20am in London so my emotions might be a bit out of whack. Kathy’s right this is great. Happy New Year to you, Kathy & William. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Teresa Ritter

Wonderfully hauntingly beautiful

Arlene Jacobs

This was beautiful!!! That out of tune piano was horrendous!! So glad to support you along with 999 of my closest friends!! Happy New Year to you, Kathy & William!! Can’t wait to see what you put together for 2022!!

Veronica Thunander

I’ve always loved this song! When I was a little girl I used to play this on this piano and sing to it. Sometimes my father would fetch his guitar and join me and I loved those moments! I’ve heard many lovely versions of this, but yours is stunningly beautiful!! I’m glad you’re so eager to make your wife happy and I’m glad she’s got such good taste! 😊💖 Thank you so much for this! Happy New Year to you and your family and everyone here on Patreon!

Cynthia Ross

I was so not ready....that key change where you went soaring up....you just put very physical shivers down my back and tears in my eyes both. I love that song, I remember my grandfather singing it when I could barely walk. Thank you. I consider this the best gift I received this year. But that tuning example at the end...UGH. I don't know how you got through the song, I wouldn't have made it. May 2022 be a much better year - and healthier year - for us all!

Veronica Thunander

By the way, I can see why the shoot was a horror, that piano was terribly out of tune 😂 ugh!

Bill Stewart

I was hoping someday you'd perform this one! This will be another multi-listen for me.

Diane Hodge

The song has a beauty all it's own, but then you sing it and you can feel the haunting longing for the home he loved. Thank you. You brought a tear to my eye and a smile on my face.

John Rogers

That was amazing!!! Thank you Sir!!!

Bard

Geoff that was so beautiful!!! I could curl up in this audio and live in it, happy and cozy forever.

Suzy Bailey

I've never heard this before but WOW, it was BEAUTIFUL, 😥 of course sung by you it was bound to be. I am so glad to have accidentally found you (and Voiceplay) earlier this year and becoming a patron was the best decision I could have made. Thank you for the many smiles and joy I've experienced. 😊 Congratulations on 1000 patrons, very well deserved! 🎉 Keep taking those risks they sure are worth it! Wishing you, your family, Voiceplay and all the patrons the very best for the New Year! 🎆🙂💜

Jeff with a D

An amazing piece. Loved it. What a great way to wrap up 2021 and say goodbye to it. Happy New Year to you, Kathy, and William.

Faline

Geoff... This was absolutely beautiful! 🥰 When it went into second gear... the emotion, the harmonies... I cried! Thank you for this beautiful version of a song I've heard as a lullaby when I was little ❤️ Balm for the soul! And have a wonderful, happy and blessed New Year with your family 🥰🥂🎉

Emily McLaughlin

wow, this made me tear up. Your voice was made to sing this song. Thank you so much for creating such a phenomenal tribute to this song. One of my favourite videos yet

Shirley B Karr

That was beautiful! And now we know the tears in your eyes were caused by the out-of-tune piano, not the song (lovely as it is). As one of your newest patrons, thanks for soldiering on!

Christina Dowdican

I haven't heard this song since i was a little girl & my Granddaddy sang it to me. My Daddy used to whistle it all the time, he could whistle so beautifully no matter what song or ditty it was. I do believe he could give Rob Lundquist a run for his money, but sadly COPD took it away from him. I Love your version SO much you sang it just the way my Granddaddy did minus the extra Geoffs & out of tune piano tho😄 a new favorite of mine & a wonderful way to ring out 2021. Looking forward to a beautiful 2022 & to see what you amaze us with in the coming year. Have a beautiful & safe holiday weekend.

Lady Wytch

Happy New Year to you and yours, Geoff! This is beautiful.

Victoria Rodli

This is so beautifully done. It brought back fond memories of choir. Thank you for taking a chance making this one! It's absolutely breathtaking ❤

MarySue Crossett

Wonderfully done!! especially loved the harmonies. happy new year to all hope it is filled with happiness and love and much success. keep the good work. we love you guys.

Del Rhea Watson

The sheer longing in this song makes me weep. You did it such justice. Thank you. Sniff.

Jessica

Wow thank you so much Geoff this brought back memories for me my high school band played this song at one of our concert. Amazing job. 💙

Tracy Z

That was definitely worth the wait. Your song brought such lovely pictures to mind of all those spectacular vistas we have here in America. The singing Geoffs were in fine form. This was beautiful 👏🏼👏🏼🎼💖 [I cringed when you mentioned the piano & and you were right — owwww!]

Sarah Reach

Thank you SO much for taking this risk! Something like this is exactly what I have been hoping for, a hidden gem that I didn't know well enough to request but immediately has become a favorite. As it turns out, this one is vaguely familiar, but it took me a few listens through to figure out that I recognize the tune from The Oregon Trail game🤣 Obviously, your version is incomparably better, it makes me misty eyed and gives me chills. I am so very very glad I found you, your music has been the best part of 2021 for me, and I feel confident that 2022 will be even better! Now, go take the rest of the year off, after that terrible piano fiasco you need a day (at least) to recover!

Alex Walker

I never heard the song before, but now it's really close to my heart! Thanks, Geoff and Kathy, for everything you do for us! Love you both, guys! 💗

Sarah Reach

Also - Love your shirt in the preamble!

Åse M Bruun Lagnestål

No easy guess - never heard it before. But that’s not a bad thing. I’m going to love this one too, for sure. Every song you make turns into my favorite. ❤️🎶❤️

Doug Beck

When I was young we sang this in choirs. Love your version of this song. If it doesn't fill a person's heart, they aint human.

Jaidyn Negley

That was so beyond beautiful. My jaw literally dropped at 4:42 - the sheer passion in your voice (here and throughout the song) was so evident. Please keep taking these risks because you never fail to make something amazing out of a challenge.

Stephanie Graham

I am in tears from the sheer beauty of this performance. This is the first time I have ever heard this song so I didn’t know what to expect. Absolutely breathtaking. 💜😭🥺

Emily

When you named the song I got so excited. I loved hearing your take on this and will be listening to it many more times. I love the comforting atmosphere of the video and how the beginning starts out simple. Thank you so much for everything--especially putting up with that painfully out of tune piano! Wishing you and everyone else here a happy new year!

Kimmie

I sang this years ago, always one of my favorites, thank you for the beautiful rendition, my favorite of anything you have done.

Penny Cummings

This is gorgeous. Wonderful work! I haven't heard this song since I was 11 and it was part of a school play we did about the US.

Jancie Sheppard

The song is absolutely beautiful! But the live piano was absolutely horrifying 😂 I’m proud to be part of this community providing a safe place for you to explore and express yourself Have a happy new year, Geoff 😊

alice collins

A new arrangement of an old favorite. I loved your performance, Geoff. Happy new year everyone.

Alex Sage

I’m sure everyone will absolutely love this!

Nessie Morris

Ahhh I love this! I sang this in choir years ago, took me right back to school 😁 What a wonderful arrangement, Happy New Year to you and your family!!! 🎊

Jacklinka

Holy badger! I'm speechless..I literally closed my eyes and fell into the space of that song. It's so airy, so voluminous, so echo-y, so infinitely beautiful. It builds it's own inner world, like a dream. Finished with completely wet eyes. Holy cow, I have to listen to that again.

Randiskye

Can a rendition of a song make you feel like you were just covered by a thick, warm, snuggly blanket that just closes off anything bad from getting to you? If so, this is it. Unlike many other commenters, I wasn't too familiar with the material, I probably heard snippets in a few old Western movies or as the background tune to Oregon Trail as another poster mentioned, so I had no preconceived notions as to how this "should" sound. This rendition is so rich, and warm that I just want to keep replaying it (no big surprise there, lol) and listening for all the details that you always put in just the right place to enhance the material. After listening the first time, I checked out some of the history and saw that the folk song goes back to at least the 1850s! As a charter member of the OBS, I approve! I then listened to Tennessee Ernie Ford's performance of this song and while I appreciated that rendition very much, I have to admit my ears were already spoiled by the fullness of your version. Definitely a 'sorry, not sorry' moment. Anyway, I am a proud patron and look forward to what the new year holds for my ears and eyes from you and VoicePlay. I wish you, Kathy, William, and your whole family the best of everything in the new year!!

Sarah Roberts

That poor piano. May it rest in peace. 0.o

Julie Hobson

Beautifully done. Piano not so much, song definitely will be playing over and over.

Ilona Dever

Absolutely love this song and your great cover!

Royce Jackson

Dude! That was amazing! Are you kidding! I don’t know that song but that was legitimately like listening to a song I’ve cherished my whole life. Not gonna lie, started to get tearful lol Happy New Years Geoff!

Gabriella Sejer

I'm actually crying... Thank you so, so much. Happy new year!

Amanda Hovendon

I can’t wait to share this❤️❤️❤️. Wow. OVER 1,000 PATRONS?! That’s awesome!

Alison L

Beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing your music with us. Happy New Year to you, Kathy and William

Paulene Thorne

I woke at 1.30AM UK time, and KNEW I had to start my Patreon pledge immediately. Just in time. And I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with tears in my eyes listening to this. Thank you Geoff, for such a beautiful and emotional song to end what has been a hard year for many. Wishing Geoff, Kathy, and William a happy healthy, and prosperous 2022.

Melissa Rumack

ok...that painfully flat piano at the end...I feel for you. that must have been VERY painful to the ear. Faking it over that...you have more acting chops than you thought lol

Davide Dalmonte

happy new year Geoff! you sound amazing as always and I thank you for bringing me into bass singing, you know how much this means to me.I started listening to you and Voiceplay in a really bad time,I had no motivation and no dreams. But thanks to you I now love bass singing and my dream is to become like you one day.Happy new year again legend!

Davide Dalmonte

Happy new year Geoff!you sound amazing as always, and I started listening to you and Voiceplay in a really bad time,I had no motivation and no dreams, but thanks to you I now dream to became a great singer. You don’t know how much this means to me.Thanks a lot, really.

Meg Richardson

I had to wait the entire day. Work was completely draining but getting home to listen to this was the highlight of my day. please Geoff continue singing songs like this and I would listen to them all day, so relaxing and the harmonies are absolutely beautiful. It’s such a simple song but the power and emotions that come from it especially when you sing your arrangement is miraculous Out of tune pianos are my worst nightmare. You did well to hold it together. Not sure I would have been so patient, even that short section was enough for a complete cringe. Happy New Years to you, Kathy and William and I hope at least you all got a couple of days of rest, and lots of fun and enjoyment xo

DnD Addict

Happy New Year Geoff, Kathy, William and all other Patrons of this wonderful man. This song was something else! Music can move you in many ways but this time I was near tears with the beauty of this piece. Geoff, you spoil us rotten. Thank you for your gorgeous voice, stunning arrangements and fantastic song choices. Becoming one of your Patrons was probably the best decision I made this year.

Gillian Drysdale

that was beautiful how could you even think we wouldn’t like it! You continue to amaze me hope you have a very happy and healthy 2022 and love toKathy and William 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿xxx

Cindy Jones

That was so beautiful Geoff What a Beautiful Soul Touching Song to finish out this year and to bring us into the New Year Blessings on you All 💞

Veronika Troll

BEAUTIFUL! I'm so happy you get to do projects like this for yourself (and for Kathy :)).

Rachael Heidi

Wow, this was more beautiful than I even imagined it would be after all those teasers ❤️. So happy that you have over 1000 patrons. Just love this, so much. I can never put into words what your songs mean to me.. Just beautiful. Tears in my eyes. Love that you can do what you want to do as well as "crowdpleasers". That piano at the end though... Ouch lol. I'm also pretty sure that this is one of my father's favourite songs. Will be showing him this one when it's public 😊.

Cindy Barber

Ok, I haven't heard this song in quite a while and it brings back so many memories for me. Geoff, this is amazing!!! I always have enjoyed your renditions, but this one is truly special to me. The middle section has so much happening I'm going to need a million more listens to really grasp it all, but what a beautiful way to end the year. Thank you sir for taking the chance with this one, and for letting us come along for the ride. Also, congrats on the 1000 Patreon supporters. Songs like this is why you deserve so many more. ❤️❤️ Happy New Year. (And also, HOW did you manage to get through this shoot with that piano??? *shudders*)

Tal and Bard Lampner

Geoff, this brought back so many wonderful memories for me of hanging out with my dad and listening to my his collection of folk music with him. Lots of Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, and Joni Mitchell. I definitely got teary eyed with fond nostalgia and a bit of homesickness listening to this. I'm so happy that you keep these old songs alive with your arrangements! The songs have been around for ages and to see someone performing them and keeping the tradition flowing is a beautiful thing that I'm honored to be a part of. I wish you, Kathy, William (and Clayton!) a happy new year and look forward to what the next year brings!

Dominique

Ha, I thought it was funny as well 😁 His voice though was making up for it. But still so funny 😆

Peladon

I found you on Youtube this year and was immediately enthusiastic! I think I am supporting a really important cause with you and Voiceplay. Music just makes life more beautiful and that is extremely important right now. I wish you a Happy New Year from Germany!

Barbara Binney

Four words- Bea. U. Ti. Ful. I have absolutely zero musical ability so I am in awe of anyone who can make such beautiful music, and you, my friend, are one of the best.

A weird coincidence. Last evening I was re-listening to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and got to the part where the robots were singing exactly a major fifth flat (I think that's the quote). My first thought was "What would Geoff and VP make of that!". Well, patently you can survive it, even if the pain is obvious. No wonder you were crying ;-) This was one of the very few songs my late father would sing. He didn't consider himself musical, but this song resonated with him and your beautiful arrangement has just triggered a lot of good memories, thank you. Congratulations on your achievements this year. We know it is down to sheer hard work as well as talent and I'm sure that all of us patrons are proud that our small contributions can support your artistic freedom. May 2022 allow you to continue to grow and thrive. A happy, healthy, peaceful and productive 2022 to all.

Geoff, did you cry 'cause of that awful piano? Ahhh, kidding so.😊 It's a heavenly beautiful song. You made it PTX level, both arrangement and singing, hope that PTX doesn't sound offensive 😃You hit another level in that game.👏 Bravo for being able to record such a great quality despite that terrible piano. Moving that piano sounds painful😩 knowing that you have back problems. Please take care of yourself. Wishing to you, Kathy and William a wonderful new year, full of new creations and family happiness.❤️🌲❤️

BloodCarnation

This is literally one of my all time favourite songs. I'm so happy you decided to sing it!

Kaleigh Henderson

I’ve listened to this song probably a dozen times at this point. This is far and away my favorite song on your channel. Heck, it might be among my favorite songs ever. I never EVER thought anything could beat the nostalgia of bear necessities or the emotion in blackbird, but then here this song comes and delivers mountains more of both in one song. You say this one may not be a crowdpleaser - I sincerely hope you’re wrong, because if this masterpiece doesn’t get millions of views, it is a disservice to the world.

Frédérique Boudet

It's beautiful !! thanks for sharing with us your incredible talent. I wish you and your family an wonderfull 2022 . Loves from France

Rita (idolanocircus)

this was a very very beautiful rendition ♥ i'm so happy and proud to be a patron and to be able to support you when making things like this, and i can't wait to continue doing it next year! happy new year :)

Victoria Robinson

Thanks so much for this, Geoff, and for the lovely message at the beginning! Your patrons have your back, so don’t be afraid to take risks and do what makes you happy! We support you and love you!

Vonda Copeland

That was beautiful! Pretty sure I could listen to you sign TV commercial jingles and enjoy it, but this was really amazing! Happy New Year and keep them coming in 2022!

Emma Filtness

Beautiful arrangement, glad to be able to support amazing projects like this. Happy New Year.

Sandy Mrotek

This was great. Especially the lower bass parts but I am partial to lower bass anyway. I love this song. Thanks for doing it and I want to wish you and your family a very Happy New Year and will be looking forward to anything you do in 2022.

Constance Christensen

Lovely. The music and the setting were perfect. Thank you for a nice end to 2021. The New Year will start out better having found your music. Have a great New Year!

Tracie Schlaak

I’m glad Kathy likes this. I absolutely love this. The happy tears are flowing. You deserve all the accolades. Happy New Year and here’s to much more exquisite music 🎶 ❤️

Grim Grinning Tracy

I haven't sang this one in ages, always beautiful and moving. Happy New Year G & K!

Mouton Noir

An amazing arrangement. Breathtaking. Thank you.

Shauna Tramutolo

I’m so proud to be a Patreon of yours!! This song is absolutely beautiful and is definitely one of my favorites. My very favorite still being High and Dry. Thank you for the amazing work you do for us fans. I can tell you without doubt or question, your music has saved my life.

A.J. O'Brien

Excuse me, Sir, but WHAT do you mean by saying Shenandoah isn’t a crowd pleaser????? It’s one of my all time favorite songs, and yours is by far my favorite rendition. Thanks for making me so proud to support you here. ❤️🎉

David Nappi

We really like two things about this video. First, your arrangement of this traditional song with many low notes for us to enjoy, and second, your excellent deep bass, resonant singing of these lower register notes. Please keep recording more videos like this in 2022. Happy New Year.

candi lunsford

Oh, Geoff. That was so incredibly beautiful. Tears were rolling even before the harmonies started. I can't even begin to tell you what an inspiration your music has been this past year. Some days I just had to lose myself in music just to stay sane and your songs were the best of them all. You bring such passion into every note, every chord, every word. From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU. May the new year bring health and happiness to you, Cathy and William. God bless.

Melissa Creel

This is beautiful and moving, . I love that you know these older songs and will perform them. Quite brilliantly I might add. My heart swells with joy every time I listen to it. Well done.

Christine Stromberg

Oh Geoff. Oh Geoff. Do you have any idea what a blessing you are? Probably not. I can only echo what others are saying. This is simply beautiful. Yes, tears here too. You just have a way of reaching the parts that others don't.

Jennifer

This is gorgeous - I love it. Very glad I just decided to join your Patreon.

Michael

I'll just skip the musical part as I agree with all the other comments - it's awesome! I really like how the video itself improved a whole lot since the previous ones without too much of a technical effort. It just feels way more natural and three-dimensional now thanks to those more diverse camera perspectives and especially the addition of that nice detail shot of your hands playing the piano. But enough of all that technical stuff... thank you for everything and I'm excited to hear/see what the new year will bring!

Hunter

That happened to me too!

Hunter

HOPEFULLY NOT FLAT PIANOS. Ulgh. 😂

J.L.

Hear, hear! Or, should that be, hope not to hear? (c; More Geoff, regardless!

Sophie Llewellyn Smith

Geoff, I have no idea how you managed not to wince while filming this. The tuning of the piano is truly dreadful. Your version of the song, however, is beautiful. Some of my favourite parts are the gentle simplicity of the piano, the little break in your voice at 4:45, the wonderful runs, especially at 5:25, the key change at 6:10, and the crunchy harmonies at 6:50. I also love the way the Geoffs in this video have such a great rapport! 😁

Gary Wagner

You did it this time. You brought tears to my eyes at the beginning of this song. This is a gorgeous peace. I'm so glad I am helping to make such wonderful music.

Ruth Nellis

That was gorgeous!! I love it!!!!

Dan Black

Ooo, this is really nice! This might be my favorite of yours in awhile! OTOH, I tend to think that on a lot of your videos… But your singing on this one is just so nice and smooth and clear, both highs and lows!

Amanda Hovendon

Please more videos of you playing the piano🙏🏻❤️

Jamie T.

Since my 2021 decided to end with my spending Christmas Eve day at an urgent care center, Christmas Day with news of the death of my husbands uncle and New Year's Eve with the death of my aunt, I just now finally had the chance to listen to this and it sent chills up my spine it is so beautiful. I love everything you've ever done but when the Geoff leaning on the piano did his first solo I completely lost it - absolutely sobbing - it just hit my soul because I know my aunt would have loved it so much.

Stacy Toth

Such a beautiful song . So moving. absolutely loved it. You did a fantastic job as always. you never fail to amaze me. and you never disappoint. Please don't ever change. Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family.

Ruth Feiertag

"Shenandoah" has been one of the songs that has stayed with me from my youth. Its poignancy is perfect for the end to this complicated, often tragic year and your rendering was beautifully balanced between the sadness and the love that imbue the song. But what really moved me were your words about your wife. Your devotion to her is what will anchor your marriage. I wish you and your family joy and health in this new year. Thank you.

Amy Witkowski

Beautiful cover of this song. At this point, I think Geoff could create a medley of children's songs and it would be amazing. I've never been a vocal artist. I stuck with the woodwinds. I feel that I can recognize something beautiful when I experience it. This song is definitely a beautiful experience. Also, new to Patreon so not sure if there is a better place to offer ideas but I think Geoff could do Pearl Jam's "Future Days" some justice.

Lisa Helling

Absolutely lovely, I've always loved this song

Mary 🦊

Oh G! 😭 Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is one of most favoritest songs ever. And this will forever more be my favorite song that you have done. So so beautiful.

Shannon D

So beautiful. Definitely the best yet, and that's saying a lot. Kathy has good taste (obviously). I have no idea why the YouTube video has relatively few views, but I guess not everyone has good taste :P Anyone who hasn't seen this is missing out!

Jay

I agree with a lot of folks, this is so very beautiful and so far my most favorite creation of yours. I loooove me your subharmonics and other sonic earthquake-inducing goodies but man, you don't need them to sound amazing. Perfect. Thank you :)
