HEY THERE!

It's been a hot minute, but we're back at it again and this time with a song originally performed by Bill Withers, who is sadly no longer with us, but who is eternal, just the same. This song is probably best known for the amount of times he sings the lyric "I KNOW", and I'm pretty sure I sang it more times than he did because i needed everything to line up to a click and I like even numbers. My deepest apologies, Bill.

Some of you have been picking up on the stately-ness of set, and it's actually a really really old Florida home called "Casa Feliz". At some point the city or Orlando was going to knock it down, but some kind hearted do-gooders raised some funds to have the home lifted off of it's foundations and moved to a new permanent location. Pretty incredible. I'm almost positive that when they saved this place from the wrecking ball, they were thinking to themselves "you know what, some day a long haired moron is gonna wanna film himself walking around this house singing 'I KNOW', and dangit we need to make sure it's still standing when he does". I'm 99% sure anyway.

So that's the story for now - I appreciate you so much, and I hope you enjoy the heck outta this tune. Thank you for everything!

-G

PS - I've proposed an alternate title for this video, which is "Geoff walks around an empty house singing to himself like a psychopath, oblivious to the amount of sunshine pouring through the windows", but it maybe doesn't quite roll off the tongue as it should.

This song is about coffee, right?

Jamie Nieznay

The inner mechanisms of your mind is an enigma. I love these little blurbs.

Jess M

I'm excited, I love this song

Emily Dion

Geofftette looks sad. Does they needs hugz?

Debbie Goodling

Oh my God! This is brilliant! You’ve outdone yourself yet again! I have so much to say about this but it will have to wait! I have to listen again and again and again.

Eileen Parkman

Sounds AMAZING! Certainly worth waiting for. And yeah, the set is sunny, but lordy! The angst on your face shows how dark it is inside. Bravo!! <3

ZAYRAY!

What in the holy mother of rock tenors was that..

Angie Woollard

Geoff, this *LITERALLY* took my breath away. Holy smokes. The EMOTION you convey. The choices you made, both musically and visually, brought tears to my eyes....which were interrupted by the broadest grin as you panned past the gramophone. Holy...yeah, Imma go listen to that again. I know, I know, I know, I know I'll be having this one on repeat.

Stephanie Graham

OMG! This was devastatingly beautiful! 💜💜💜

TheFiend231

So sad, but swingy at the same time and it’s used to perfection. I’m also glad we get to see a little bit of Geoff’s high range. We see some new beats and instruments added to Geoff’s arsenal as well.

Hunter

Took that rock tenor for a walk. And I just have to say, you took the phrase, “walking angst” to a whole new level. The distraught, heartbroken, semi- stumbling around, made it so much more moody. I love that. Come here Geo-tet! It’s HUG TIME!

Gretchen G

Oh wow! This takes the original and adds so many new layers to it. I love it so much! Video, music; everything!

Sophie Plourde

Holy cow this was amazing!! So unexpected but I absolutely loved the modern feel you gave the song and all of the cool production on your voice and the video - it wasn't "too much" but it really added something unique! You also really sold it on the acting, I was unsettled for a bit there 😅 I'm gonna have this on loop for sure!

TheNightShiftDragon

Love it! Might have woken up the kids, but that is a problem for future me ;-) And please keep putting your own spin on songs, that's half the fun of it. The "Wonder what will he do with this one?" is part of the fun ;-)

Jennifer DeBroux

So many goosebumps (and not because it's a little chilly here in the great state of WI). This is just amazing!

Maggie Jaskot

that was so good that I literally started crying tears of joy

Amanda W

I'm still sitting here like a YouTube reactor with their mouth open. 😮😮😮😮 Just... flabbergasted.

María Gabriela

Geoff I---I have no words. I think I'm going to cry out of sheer happiness. HOLY SHIT IT'S SO GOOD!!!!

Jordi S

I loved what you did with this! Loved the set, the gramophone. Loved all of it!!!

Jordan Hollis

I could listen to this an-an-an-anytime it pops up in my feed :) Great job Geoff on another banger!!!

Cindy Barber

So excited to watch this one when I am back at my computer. I'm sure it was great, and as always love the blurb, I'm sure that's what all those donators were thinking. 😆

Maggie S

Yes! Most Excellent! Thank you 😊

Sophia Sutherland

Holy cow!! The arrangement is unbelievable & the video 🤯😵. I was excited about having 2 separate shots set up (based on the teaser photos) this absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. IMO this is the single most impressive project you’ve done. Bravo man, seriously! It’s unreal how talented you are!!

Emily Dion

Alright, now that I've had time to absorb it and watch it more. Look at Geoff and his acting. He portrayed anguished desolation so well. So Much so I don't like seeing him so sad. He looks like he needs a hug in the video but after watching it I now need a hug.

Heidi Vehlow

This is wonderful!! I have always loved this song myself, and I think the remix is brilliant.

Katie D

This is beyond incredible. This song has been a favorite of mine for a couple decades now, and I absolutely love what you've done with it! You are amazing at what you do!!! 💖

Justin Bush

My mind is absolutely blown. Of all the songs you’ve covered, this was my favorite song going in. And I can easily say it’s my favorite of all your arrangements. Absolutely beyond amazing!

Debbie Buck

Oh, dear Lord!! Heartstrings....!!!!

John Rogers

Amazing job my friend!!! 10 out of 10!!!

Ariela Gazin

This is devastatingly beautiful. I already loved this song and I love love love this arrangement of it. As always, your voice is incredible and your acting is so good it actually hurts in this one! Ok, I need to go watch this 10 more times now!!

Tara Congo

Hooooooly cow 😲 That was incredible. I'm glad no one was around to see my face while I was watching or they would have thought I'd lost my mind. Seriously awesome, Geoff. And the video is so very cool. Worth every second of waiting for this one. There are always one or two people out there who complain about departures from the original, but I for one am tremendously grateful for how you make songs your own thing - especially since you're so adept at maintaining the heart of the piece. Thanks for being you!

Jay Fritz

Puts me in mind of all the times I've told children and pets, "I know," but I really didn't know. Love this--I feel the loss and the pain, and you've done it again! Like everything else you put your talent to, this is so well arranged and performed.

Tracy Z

As much as I love the bass potions of this song, I find myself really responding to the tenor vocals in this one. There is a lot of depth of feeling in the vocals that shows in the close up expressions. This was great. Thank you

Mikki Fullerton

Thank you so much for that moving piece. The emotional impact is so strong and I'm not usually an easy one to move. I loved the amount of time there was only one Geoff on the screen in this one, so fitting for the loneliness of the song. Personally I loved the changes from the original, pop-y, remix-y and lower all included. Even the way some of the 'i know' phrases were broken into smaller chunks by breaths, silence stops, etc was so fitting and felt more alone instead of connected. Somehow the octave switches even lent themselves towards heart-rending isolation between parts. Thank you again for yet another great one I'll be adding to my playlists.

candi lunsford

Oh, Geoff! That was so moving. I love the changes you made. You have wonderful insight into the spirit of music, and your love of the original shines through. Making it your own, and always beautifully done, is what sets you apart. I really don't think there's a single genre of music you wouldn't be able to do. Much love and respect for the beauty you bring us. Now, for another listen and this time the Kleenex box is handy.

Dylan Reubenking

I gotta say, Ain't No Sunshine has always been one of my favorite songs, and I am SUPER picky with covers of it because I have such an attachment to the original. I might be just riding the high of watching it for the first time, but I think I love your version more than the original. Such a unique sound for you and for this song. You absolutely killed this!!

Amanda Hovendon

Who ever restored this house should make it into a Bed and Breakfast or something cause I would love to stay there. It’s beautiful from what I’ve seen in your video😲. Really cool video Geoff

Beth Comer

Honest reaction- as soon as the video ended, I started crying. I'm sorry; I don't have anything more constructive to say. This was so freakin' gorgeous it makes my heart stop.

Celeste Gosling

Alternative title: "Sad Geoff's sing sad song in the Sun"

Huldra Draco

I'm at a loss for words.... wow.... just wow..... Geoff.... sir.... You have outdone yourself.

Jamie L

This actually made my jaw drop...it was incredible. Thanks so much for making this exist!

Trisha

Oh wow! This is awesome! New subscriber here and I am blown away!

Caitlin Binedell

LOVE this one! Yet another catchy tune that'll be playing on repeat in my car. 😆 Amazing job!

Kaleigh Henderson

Yep, you did say "I know" more than Bill. You "knowed" (knew?) 36 times, compared to Mr. Withers' 26. This take on this song is very unexpected, but the more I listen to it, the more I love it.

Shannon W

I couldn't stop grinning or tapping my toes. This is phenomenal! I have loved this song for a long time and I think this might be my new favorite version. The video is so good. The house was a perfect setting. The dynamic shots along with the single chair in a big open room, as well as the gathering of Geoffs we all have come to know and love, is just great. The wandering from room to room really reinforces the mood of this piece. Well done!!

Samantha Ratcliff

That was amazing! I really think Bill Withers would have approved fully of this version. I also really liked all the Geoff’s with their hands moving at the same time lol. I was watching some old 42five videos on YouTube and the footage is grainy, so I was trying to work out who was who- I found you by your hand movements 😂 it’s adorable by the way, so please don’t change it lol. I also want to add how amazing your range is. You show it off amazingly here! Does it hurt your throat going from low to high and back again?

Helen A

That arrangement is wild. I knew within the first five seconds that I was in for something special. The subs actually rattled my earphones and the rock tenor was fantastic! Plus the "I Know" repetition actually plays its own part in the video, suggesting repeated regrets as time passes without "her". I have to mention also that the acting in this was top-notch! The whole video has the air of a person trying to drink away his pain. The rumpled appearance, the stumbling and leaning, the tipped over wine glass, even the 4 melancholy backup singers hanging out in the corner. It all shouts 'drunk and depressed' without so much as a hint of actual booze being shown. That is some brilliant stuff right there. Bravo! (Also, that old house is beautiful. I'm glad someone saved it from destruction!)

Amy

This brought so much emotion, far too much to be going on while at work

Emily

I say this every time, but I love this! Even if there's not any (metaphorical) sunshine in the video, thank you for bringing some sunshine to my evening!

Diane Hodge

Gorgeous! Loved the "melancholy" feel of this song. I had enjoyed the original by Mr Withers, but this was an art piece in and of itself. The changes made really did not take away from the original feel, only enhanced it. Thank you and I loved it.

Kelley ONeal

I am pretty sure I said "Oh yes!" more than you sang "I know". This is amazing! Vocal perfection! Seriously, you are my 3rd favorite male vocalist of all time with Freddie Mercury and Steve Perry). Well done Geoff! Tied for favorite of your solo releases with "Shenandoah". Thank you for sharing your talent. Have a great week!

Jennifer L. Cramp

Melancholy Geoff, with eyes full of pain. The mostly empty house echoed the sentiment of the song - it was no longer a home without the one you love to fill it. A life can be dark without a loved one in it. You brought a lot of heart and soul to this song and the deep bass just added to it. I had to listened several times before commenting as one time was not enough. I got chills each time from your harmonies, the emotion, and from how beautifully your sang this. I truly enjoyed this fresh take on this song and making it yours. Thank you for your efforts. Another awesome job! 💜

Patricia Schuman

And you don't mention the irony that "Casa Feliz' literally translates into "Happy House"? Did they rename it to "Casa Infeliz" by the time you got through spreading your depression throughout it?

Ira Kroll

Very nice arrangement, and satisfying highs and lows. My only pickiness is the amount of post processing. I believe I heard a lot of pitch correction (AKA autotune) on some of the higher verses.

Debbie Goodling

….and the reactors come tumbling down, shattered on the floor!

Louise Bathurst

I'm sorry but this has got to be one of your best songs yet (they're all amazing but this is just chef's kiss lol) can't wait for it to go public!

Brontesaurus Rex

The humming, the humming, oh my God 💜💜💜

Rebekah Galy-Davis

Holy CRAP! I just asked for this on VP’s Patreon page a couple days ago…either I’m psychic or you are, sir. I’m having a brain explosion right now in the best way.

Jennifer

Wow! You hadn't even started singing yet and I knew this was going to be my new favorite! The BASS, the TENOR...you brought it all on this one. And I too, like the lonely Geoff wandering around the house. Great acting. The whole video is just amazing!

kris ivy

Well, that was definitely worth the wait. Every shot was so well executed and planned within that gorgeous setting. Also, really love the storytelling within. My favorites are always the songs that resonate with Geoff. Plus, the acting is improving in every video. 😂 chef’s kiss.

Angie Woollard

What a BRILLIANT description of Geoff's acting in this video. Perfectly conveys heartbreak.

Jay

YT kept asking me if I was experiencing interruptions in the video. I'm like, nah, bro, I'm doing the old rewind thing for a whole 'nother reason, you watch that and then try not to watch it again for a few dozen more times ;)

Tina Wiles

This is my favorite song by Bill Withers. I watched the video and listened to the song with tears rolling down my face. *sigh* Thank you so much.

Ellen L Brownell

Even with the sunshine "pouring through the windows" once grief and loneliness take hold their shadows block it all out. Amazing job, Geoff. Thank you.

AM Person

Adore this! So different in so many awesome ways, and emotionally vibing (in a healing way) with some lonely part of my soul that really needed this.

Lady D Richter

That was beautiful! Broke my heart to see you in so much pain, even though I know (I know, I know...) it was only acting. Amazing job as usual! Hugs!

Lisa Pockat Bork

Absolutely beautiful! You are amazing Geoff 👏 ❤

J.L.

Goodness me, that was powerful, Geoff. Best go get a big hug from your lovely wife! So emotional, love it.

Christina Dowdican

I love this!! I listened to the original for years but the monotone of the i knows just kinda grated on the nerves back then. You have done a marvelous rejuvenation of an old song. I do have to say that i really do prefer this version over original & Austin Brown’s version (sorry Austin). A question fir you, have you considered doing anything from Manfred Mann, The Alan Parson Project, Air Supply, or Hall & Oates? Would love to see what you come up with for any of them. Or even The Platters or the Doo Wop music( yes I’m telling my age) I’m old not you by a long shot! Love ya😊❤️

Suzy Bailey

Geoff, I enjoy everything you do and knew I was going to love this as well, but I didn't expect to be quite so moved. The chills because of the anguish you portrayed, it wasn't till the end I realized I'd been holding my breath the whole time. The segmented "I know"s was genius and I absolutely loved hearing you sing more than usual in your higher range! The setting was perfect and seeing the gramophone brought a satisfied smile. Geoff you are a treasure and this was BLOODY BRILLIANT! 😢👍💜💜

Lois McCray

🧡You made it more Geoff.🧡

ObscureReferenceWoman

Wow. Just....wow. Love that song already, and you just made it so much more. Makes me want to reach out and give all of you a great big hug and tell you it'll be okay. Great setting, amazing emotion in the singing, and I KNOW this one's another hit. My only complaint is that it ended too soon. But then, you always leave us wanting more! {Insert ad lib superlatives and fangirling here. I can't think of the right words.}

Amanda Hovendon

Please keep making more videos like this!😍

Jancie Sheppard

That was awesome! And I loved your sneaky gramophone shot 😉

Jacklinka

It has a rare aftertaste - the singing is remaining inside your mind after the physical music has ended. The brain continues to hear your "I know", continues to gently tremble to the tension between the bass and tenor.

Rosie Boughen

WOAHHH!!! I really like it!!!! My dad sings this all the time (but never like this, of course 😜)

Debs Badger

First, you take my breath and bring tears to my eyes with that thumbnail. I was not prepared for the image of angst-ridden Geoff. Then I get to the song. I've been emotional all day, and this absolutely pushed me over the edge into ugly crying. This arrangement...I really think you kept it's heart intact while simultaneously making it your own. The emotion with which you performed it...you grabbed every single one of my heartstrings. I feel so very proud to have been a small part of allowing you to make this. Thank you for such a beautiful piece. 💕

Kevin Snipes

Wonderfully done, Geoff!! I really enjoyed it. Like always, you surprise me again and again with the low notes and surprised me with the higher notes too. Can’t wait for the public to see this.

Gillian Drysdale

magnificent as always love your higher register in this ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Tara Congo

It sounds like those are purposeful effects/doubling on some of those upper vocals, not pitch correction.

Jaidyn Negley

yes! the gramophone plastered a smile right on my face too

Jaidyn Negley

On top of literally everything in this video that was just achingly beautiful and emotional, the camera work is amazing. I know you've mentioned you try to do something different for every video to keep it interesting and this was something that not only was different from your past videos (if my memory serves) but also worked wonderfully well

Carol Franklin

As with Big Bad John not a fan of the original but as soon as you started singing I was hooked. Always a joy to hear all your range. Lovely video but I miss smiley Geoff!! Think the alternate title could use some work tbh. 🇬🇧

Laura Müller

This seriously made me cry. It's so achingly beautiful and you could feel every emotion though both the singing and the acting.

Brad Tobin

Absolutely phenomenal once again...Salute! I love the growl you added this time, Tim would be proud ;) Very much worth the wait. Thank you again for all your hard work.

Tim Gray

That was beautiful. Perfecto

CookieVA

Loved it. Will be listening to it on repeat <3

Jeff with a D

I had to listen to it 4 times before I could gather myself. Incredible! You've done the same here as you did just recently with Voiceplay & Dream On. Taken an incredibly difficult classic song, and made it your own while still paying full honor to the original artist. Simply adapting it to meet your own strengths. Kudos to you Geoff yet again for another incredible experience

Amanda Hovendon

I just want to say this. I feel like ever since I discovered you and became a patron of your’s and VoicePlay’s, good things have been happening to me lately. Each day before I go into work, I always listen to your music, Geoff, or VoicePlay’s because it just calms my nerves. I just recently got a raise in my pay, not by much though, but it’s still pretty good. I’ve been getting compliments from my bosses at work (mind you I work in retail at a place called J. Crew Factory in Atlantic City NJ) and today at our meeting I was rewarded for outstanding customer service. I’ve gotten back into drawing and painting, especially on my computer ( I haven’t done that in a while) and I’ve gotten a lot of compliments and likes on my work. I just feel like from just listening to your music and VoicePlay’s, watching your videos, reading your posts, it’s all just become one BIG luck charm for me. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Judy Wilde

You’ve done it again. Taken a song that I found mildly annoying and it turned into one I can happily listen to. You may have had more ‘You knows’ in there, but they were broken up and sung differently enough to be heartbreaking, not annoying. I loved that you appeared solo on screen more of the time, and that by using your higher voice more it made the harmony and lows more special. And I admit to a little smile when you walked up to the gramophone. I even like that I found myself holding my breath at the end, willing it to keep going. And now for the comment that won’t be popular here. I had a vague feeling that this video reminded me of something. (I guess at a certain point one has enough memories that something new tends to trigger something old.) Don’t know exactly why, but when I saw the glasses on the table with the gramophone another video flashed for me. I was reminded of Michael Bolton’s How Am I To Live Without You. It wasn’t the music or setting so much as the feel of the video. That one helped get me through a pretty rough time in my life, and I hope this one does the same for someone else. Thank you for another wonderful video.

Jamie T.

Happy squeals!! Today is my 56th birthday and this was my best present! I very much enjoyed your version on this great classical song. As Jeff D. mentioned just above my comment, I also appreciate so much how you take the song and make it your own while still honoring the original artist rather than just copying with very little difference. This way I have two great versions of the song to enjoy.

Alex Walker

Changes very much enjoyed! You're forgiven! I know, I know! 🔥

Aidan Willingham

i love the style of this video, it still shows off the bass notes but not in a build up to a hit, as in many of the other songs, its a lot more relaxed and subtle which i love. Keep up the great work Geoff!!!

Kelley ONeal

Geoff is always pitch perfect imo.

Kelley ONeal

Kazandra Brock and Sarah will lose it! 🤣

Kelley ONeal

Yes! Lifted me out of a constant funk past couple if years. Went through death of father 2 years ago. Music is helping make the emptiness not as palpable.

Sarah Roberts

Wow. Chills. Love it. My first experience of this song was a punk rock cover- Me First and the Gimme Gimmes- which includes a hilarious tired sounding ‘I know’ section. Heard the original after. This.. this version is brilliant and gorgeous

Wendy Chen

Love this better than the original. Certainly more of a movie clip then the others. There’s always so much emotion is your songs. This one definitely pulls at the heart strings.

María Gabriela

I study and work while listening to Geoff's and VP's songs. It's just so energizing!

Ilona Dever

Geoff, alternate ending. Door latch is heard opening, seated Geoff's head snaps up, Kathy's voice calls "Geoff?'. All the Geoff's morph into one and start running for the door. Absolutely love this piece, you.are.amazing!

Tine

This is ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR. Geoff.. you are always trying new things and this one is no different and thank heavens. It's so interesting and just.. incredibly good is all I can say at this point as you have rendered me speechless. That OPENING.. those tenor lines and little riffs.. The audio production is so different but adds something modern to an old classic, so interesting to hear which choices were made! As well as from a video standpoint. Thank you, Geoff for yet another masterpiece.. Ps. I am SO happy to see the return of the gramophone :D

María Gabriela

Another thing I forgot to add: How do you manage to look so handsome in literally every shot? Man, you definitely are something.

Emily Dion

When he leans in the doorway . . .

Silje Hoel Sakshaug

Geoff, you talented sweetheart you. You owe me Kleenex. This was so touching and I absolutely LOVED IT!❤️❤️❤️

Veronica Thunander

I’m so happy to wake up to this! I can’t not be sad when watching the video - the acting, the location, the music truly emphasise the sadness of the lyrics 😢! At the same time I’m happy because it’s so great! It’s so, so beautiful! Wonderful voice and singing, great arrangement, beautiful video, beautiful house, beautiful gramophone! 😊 Now I’ll get up, change from my iPhone headphones to really good headphones and enjoy this on repeat while sipping my morning coffee! And I wish for all of us that the sunshine reaches our hearts today! By the way, the alternative title is great! 🤣

Veronika Troll

Woow! This is so different from the original - as you said it too. I really like it! :)

Snappy

Wow, this is way different from the original, but really amazing 🥰

Olivia

There are times that I enjoy walking around my house listening to music and pretending my life is super dramatic. This is an excellent song to do that to. Really like it!

Samantha Ratcliff

I just had a thought for a future video- a rat pack medley! You’d be great at it!

Tiina Nyrhinen

Wow! Excellent work 👌 I'm in love with this 😍

Samantha Ratcliff

I saw a video of him doing Straighten up and fly right, with 42five, and they were brilliant. Then I thought of how great the songs on the album Swing when you’re winning by Robbie Williams- he did a lot of different covers and they would be great covered by Geoff too!

Christine Stromberg

Oh Geoff. I love the original song but it never made me cry. This does. I love love love what you've done with it. You (and VP) and one other person I know take well known songs and made them so special and emotional. That other person is Angelina Jordan, a young Norwegian singer of superb talent. Between you, you have changed how I look at singing. No one else reaches into my heart this way and plays with my heartstrings, with perhaps one or two rare exceptions.

Alison L

Awesome, great start to my day!

Christine Stromberg

I watch Geoff and VP every day, often reaction videos, and the only thing that's happened to me lately was discovering - at the grand old age of 77 (I turned 78 last week) that I am autisitc. But that was pretty mind blowing. As are Geoff and VP. Love them to bits.

DnD Addict

One of my favourite songs, but as always Geoff, you raise it to a different level! Thank you for doing something so beautiful!!

Chantal Lardeau

I didn't know this song and I learn to Know it with your magnicient cover. Thank you

Édua Elster

I found you with „House of the rising sun“ and now again one of my all time favorits! Thank you Geoff for giving me every day Inspiration! ❤️

Jill Weimer Koeninger 🐱

Whew! That is such a brilliant rendition of the original with your own amazing talents to make it your own. I said I was waiting with bated breath and I found I was hardly breathing throughout the whole song as I was transcended into how lonely one can be without the love ❤️ and sunshine 🌞 of their significant other in their life. Made me think of my late husband. But, now the thoughts and memories are the good ones. Thank you, Geoff, for sharing your gift with all of your family, friends and fans. 🥰🤗🤩

Dani

Is there anything sadder then a sun flodded house and an "empty" destroyed soul that can't see the sunshine anymore, although covered in it? I don't think so. And as much as I dislike sad Geoff, he is great in the video. They all are ;-) Also the "I want to lay on the floor, I can't stop moving, I don't know what to do with myself" vibe works very well regarding the sound and visuals. There is a lot going on, like there would go a lot through someones head. High and low, fast and slow, just unsettling, in a good way. Very different but (insert positively meltdown superlativeheavy indescribable nonsense that describes happiness). I guess creativity, knowledge and a lot of guts is what it needs to restructure a song to:" I never heard it like that." Thank you Geoff.

Mia

I'm probably reading too much into it, but I get the sense (as in Shenandoah) that there is a shift from 'low note phenom' to 'pure artist'. If so, it makes me happy. This is not a singer with a gimmick, but an exceptional producer of amazing musical experiences

Suzanne

I was worried for a min as this is a favourite of mine. It was beautiful and I think my crush on Layne maybe switching to Geoff after this one 🥵

Nana Koranteng

There was a low note in there that scared the ever living **** out of me holy crap

Erin Martin

I know this makes my ear holes happy. You did forget to add the one tear slowly rolling down your face. 🥲 But seriously, thank you for the hard work and time you put into these creations for us.

Suzy Bailey

Oh, there was definite smouldering in the doorway!

Anna Jednak-Dudzik

To say that it was sensational is like saying nothing. You have incredible talent and voice, but you're also working all the time to be even better. This deserves the highest recognition. I am a bit irritated by the fact that I have to change the speakers for the 4th time, because I want to hear more all the time ;)

Rachael Heidi

You always, ALWAYS surprise me! You seem to keep getting better and I don't know how you do it cause each song amazing! I LOVE this song and this version is my new fav! Everything about this is beautiful. The video is stunning as are the vocals, blimey! Geoff, amazing! ❤️❤️

Sophie Heidi

Woooow, it's so freaking good! I'm in love with this arrangement and your voice and I don't find the right words to describe what I want to say about this masterpiece 🥰 so I just say thank you ❤ it was so worth waiting for it!

Stacy Toth

Definitely worth the wait. Amazing and beautiful. There is something about your voice that makes everything you do amazing. High notes, low notes and every note in between are simply breathtaking. You are absolutely amazing. You always amaze me. I always look forward to what's next. Much love.

Barbara Binney

So happy that your life is improving. It's amazing what music can do for the soul which, in turn, makes everything in life better. P.S. I'll be in AC this weekend. Maybe I'll stop by the J. Crew Factory if I get a chance.

Ruth Barkey

Phenomenal! I am so glad that I have become a patron. Incidentally Geoff's "soon" is considerably earlier than some of the other artists that I follow. :-)

Barbara Binney

What a wonderful thing to wake up to. Thank you. I have to say, I think this video is one of your very best. I love the minimal use of the Geoff clones and mostly concentrating on lonely Geoff. (I also love the Geoff clones' hands moving in unison during the humming.) The sunshine pouring in the windows, but our hero is just so enveloped in this grief and misery over his lost love that he just doesn't see it- BRILLIANT. The sitting in an empty room with just 1 chair really brings home the point that "this house just ain't no home any time she goes away." The moving from place to place gives the feeling that you just don't know what to do with yourself when she's gone. About the only thing I didn't like was the remix-y/glitch-y parts. I didn't like them in "Dream On," and I don't like them here. But, hey, that's just one person's opinion. Overall, excellent song and excellent video. Thank you for doing what you do.

Barbara Binney

Oh...one more thing. Does anyone else get seasick during Geoff's intro video? If the camera were stationary while Geoff's swiveling and rocking in his chair, that would be fine, but Geoff holding the camera while he's swiveling and rocking makes it look like the walls are moving. This one's not as bad as some of his others, but I still got a little queasy.

Cindy Barber

It look me entirely too long to be able to listen to this, but now that I have....wow. As someone else said above, the shot you used for the video actually took my breath away a little, the emotion in it. Then you get into the video and it's interesting and full of more emotion, and the song arrangement, with all it's highs and lows, just brilliant. You are truly and seriously talented (even though I know you have worked for years and probably honed all your skills across them.) This I why I love being a patron and I'm so happy I can be even a drop in the bucket of helping you, and will happily continue to do so. Oh, and also, good luck with the office redecoration....those projects have a way to taking on a life of their own sometimes. :D

I’m absolutely in love, this has topped my fave house of the rising sun. Using your rock tone made me smile and bounce in happiness, prob said I love this about 7 times. I love that your playing around with playing with overtones and overlapping vocals. You will always be my fave bass boice. Keep up the good work, and I can’t wait to see certain reactors lose there*bleep* lol when they see this. Your look was great I I’ve your rumpled look.

Suzanne

I think that’s they only way at this point..

I was excited, but also a bit nervous about this one, because I've always loved the original. And I really wanted to like your take on it. I don't know why I thought there was a chance of me not loving it. 😁 This arrangement is awesome. I mentioned it before, but can't say often enough how much I love it when you also use your higher register. ❤️ The video is on repeat all day.

Tracie Schlaak

Geoff, your emotions made my emotions spurt out of my eyes. Who says that you can't act. No one! Excellent job and don't ever change what you are doing. I love it all! :)

Ann Wright

Geoff - I *always* enjoy when you release a new video b/c I'm always interested in what singular twists and spins you're going to put into the arrangement. You *never* disappoint!! Can't say that I *really* enjoyed what you called "the remix-y stuff" (the amazing range of your unadulterated voice is MORE that enough); but, as always, I thought your take on this classic was interesting, with *lots* of unexpected moments! Keep doing what you do SO well - creatively showcasing your talent this way!! ❤️

Reading through all the other comments, I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one moved to tears by this 💗

Tara Congo

The "any ti-i-ime" parts and "when she's gone" part at 3:35 just slay me.

Amanda Hovendon

I actually work this Friday and Saturday

Angie Woollard

I hope you keep this as the thumbnail. Very impactful.

Something I'm only just picking up on and appreciating after like my 20th listen is that subtle ticking sound in the background of some of the sections. It's far enough back that you only kind of notice it subconciously unless you're really listening for it, and even when you are listening for it it's super hard to tell where it starts and stops. Really emphasizes the passing of time in depression, where you're aware of the passage of every single second, and time feels like it's stretching on forever "when she's gone." It's just a cool little detail that I appreciated, when all of your songs have SO MANY cool little details that it's impossible to document them all.

Tine

Geoff. Please, take ALL the liberties and creative freedom you feel like taking. It really feels like it pays off so well. At least in my opinion, whenever you take songs that might not be particularly interesting, or well known, you seem to have a good sense for what a song could use. What a gift. I was finally able to watch it and listen to it with my full attention. So... Granted, when you described it as more remix-y or pop, I wasn't sure what to expect but you've given this track such a wonderful update, made it completely your own as you always do. You're so innovative and I'm in awe of what you come up with. I really enjoy the switch up between steadycam work and you roaming the house as well as the 4 Geoffs we've all come to know and love so much. The camerawork, editing, lighting and composition is very wonderfully done. Must have been quite a challenge to get it all done within reasonable hours too. The song sounds amazing, there's too many things to point out, the video looks incredible and it fits together so well. Beautiful, thank you for sharing this piece of art with us, Geoff. What a PLEASURE it is, that I get the opportunity to support something like this. Bravissimo!

Cat

I used to love the original song and you've made it even better. Thank you.

Julie Hobson

One of my favorite songs and you made me love it even more!! Beautiful arrangement. Super awesome as always!!🥰🥰🥰🥰

Crystal Hoagland

You took a wonderful song and exquisitely changed it into something even more meaningful and intense. I completely agree with Tine - you have an incredible gift. Thank you!

Shirley B Karr

Thank you for another marvelous video! I love how you tell the story of a song, not just sing it. The details, the layering! Visually, the guy is bereft, aimlessly wandering through a beautiful house that is not a home without her. He’s undone – untucked, untied. Stark black and white apparel show his world is colorless without her. The body language and facial expression convey his agony, how lost he is. Nice touch that he starts to wander just as he wonders. Great camera work. Hat’s off to the director of photography. Vocally, we get the story from more than just the lyrics – the soaring tenor dropping to bari down to bass, the slides, reveal the bottom falling out of his world. Changes to the original arrangement make the “I know” refrain interesting and indicative of his anguish instead of monotonous. The subtle piano and other instrumentation add nice touches without ever overpowering the vocals. And I lose the bet; zero Geoffs were on that staircase. But I was correct that the song is awesome.

Royce Jackson

Geoff! That was amazing! Holy crap! Every time! This is why you are my favourite singer/composer!

Janet Towles

Absolutely stunning! Fantastic job!!

Karyn Morrison

Great song, great singing, great acting, great editing. Totally get the vibe of someone wandering the house, not knowing what to do with themselves. Fan-friggen-tastic ... definitely worth the wait

Ruth Nellis

That was awesome! Loved it!

Pete Magill

Yes! Once again you a song your own - and the result is great. Keep up the good work!!

Ciarah Pacheco

this is amazing! fantastic job as always!

Marlo Schalesky

This is just amazing. I love it! And I've listened about a hundred times already. Wow, the artistry! Incredible.

Helen Beseda

Hi, Shirley! Great summary/analysis.

Janet Wright

Wowsers!!! I love that plaintive tone in your voice. Huge huge fan of the way you handled the really low notes in this. They didn’t detract in any way from the longing, which they could have if not handled so carefully. You made that song your own, and I can’t help but think that Bill Withers would’ve stood up and applauded 👏. So this is how you look when Kathy goes away🥺, huh? (And personally, I think your alternate title has a little bit of panache to it!)

Shannon D

Holy. Cow. I've listened to this so many times already I've lost count, far more times in a row than I have listened to any other song. Many people above have said it way better than I could, but I'll summarize with this: I trusted that the music would be amazing, because it always is, no matter the original source material. You always seem to be able to do something magical with it. But this video is at a whole new level! The camera work, the emotion, all the details, everything, it's just so, so good. It must have been a ton of work to create. And it paid off, big time.

Cindy Jones

I simply love it Geoff Thank you

Lori Lundy

Holy Moly- This just moved up the list to my favorite!

Jay

reactors are going to lose their collective minds, again 😝

Kaarel L

Great song, great location, awesome arrangement and pristine execution as always. Love the new approach of using more camera angles in the videos. I must say I'm a fan of this new breathier subwoofer sound that you're doing in this song and in VP's new Dream on video as well. Is it just different EQ, are you removing less air or have you been practicing a new trick?

Lisa Mason

This was pretty fab. I need to listen to it a few more times. Maybe listen to the original as well. My mom sang it to me last night, but it's not the same :)

Samantha Ratcliff

I just realised, the shirt looks like the one from the start of the boyband medley video?

Debs Badger

I think it's the Mr. Sandman one, which was later. Primarily because of the tabbed button on the pocket.

Miranda Rakers

*emphatic applause* Everyone already said all the everythings but I like to watch several times over a couple days before commenting. So now I've gotten all the appropriate feels out of it, love it, the world will love it, and don't worry...she's probably just gone to Target.

Maz.Eats.Steak

Brilliant, as always. Thank you so much!

Chuck Brothers

Love seeing the genre diversity in your arrangements. Can't wait to see what you do next. Bravo, Sir!

Amanda Hovendon

I KNOW for sure I’m going to destroy the repeat button 😂

CookieVA

I just counted how many times Geoff says "I know" and I think it's 38 times but I could be wrong.

Lourdes Sanz

Love this song, love your version even more!!

Ryn P

Catch me putting this on while I go down a Wikipedia rabbit hole on Casa Feliz... Also, hello, I am new to the Patreon club and happy to be here in time for this gem! 👋🏻

Brontesaurus Rex

It's two days later and I've completely lost track of how many times I've looped this, oops.

Janet Towles

I have been listening to this on repeat and I love it more and more! I actually like it better than the original, and to me this sounds radio-ready. I think this could really blow up, is there any way to get it radio play?

Jay

👋hi and welcome from a very slightly more senior newbie 😘😝

Phillipe Es

i just loved this cover!!! (I KNOW x38)

Brad Tobin

I cannot wait to share this, gets better every time I listen to it

Olivia

Welcome!

Hello and welcome <3

So glad someone said something cause my first thought was “HOly and I thought he couldn’t get hotter, I was very very wrong.”

Penny Cummings

I know! Every time I think, "No... He's already the hottest thing..." He turns around and does something even hotter.

Gargoyle Kitten

I feel like all his arrangements are like that, whether that be solo or vp arrangements. They're addictive.

Gary Wagner

I love your voice. The arrangements are masterful. The vocals are amazing. I have to admit that I liked this but it didn't blow me away like some of the other songs. I think it would sound much better to me if I was feeling blue and about 3 beers into the night.

Susan Zoe Bella

I love this one so much ❤️💚🤍💛🧡💙💜❤️
