So here's the video we set out to make. Let me know what you think!

Thanks for everything, and I'll see you soon.

Just FYI this will be public on APRIL 14th. So we've got a minute or two before we annoy the rest of the world with this.

OMG, Geoff!!! It turns out amazing!!!!

Huldra Draco

That was so good, Geoff!! ♥️♥️♥️

Rachel Blackthorne

WOW! Wowowow! That is incredible...Holy heck, that adds so much depth to the story and I already really enjoyed the video...damn...

Lutra2732

Great! Love it. But that is not Daryl 😉!

Dominique

Oh my! This is amazing 🥲. I will watch it over and over again until I can find the right words. You are truly gifted!!!

Espiau Nicolas

Love it this way, stunning voice as always. The only thing that strikes me is on the shots where the 4 Geoff appears. The colors are a little bit too strong, maybe too much contrast :) Except this, it's a masterpiece as always.

Marcus Ambrester

One of my favorite songs to begin with, LOVE your take on this! Well done!

Gretchen G

Gosh darn it Geoff! I just sat down at my computer to get some work done, and then I see this notification. Well, I guess work will have to wait. 😁 A few minutes later ... This is wonderful! Love the added video stuff. 1:28 Look at that sad face! Running out of coffee is the worst. Poor Geoff. 🙃

Tine

Oooohhhh that is super gorgeous, Geoff. Always pushing your boundaries and trying new things. Really beautiful and cinematic. I do hope these train tracks are abandoned😱 Thank you for sharing your gift and creativity with us ❤️

Mary Benno

Beautiful film work. I love the story it tells. As always, your vocals and arrangement is wonderful. I love all the suspensions, resolutions, and altered chords you chose. It gives this song extra depth and flair. Chefs kiss!

Margaret Tassey

I think the video clips you inserted since the preview really help to tell the story. My father was from Appalachia and used to play the harmonica and sing me to sleep. The runny vocal quality, especially in the beginning, reminded me strongly of him.

Mikki Fullerton

Oh, the fade out ending... that was just perfect. And SO happy we got to see guitar playing Geoff. So was any of the audio actually you on a guitar or did you stick to plug-ins still for the ease of composition and recording?

Susan Edwards

Not what I was expecting but I think it’s turned out great. The video makes sense of the song and the vocals are fabulous!

Mia

The changes changed everything. Wonderful extra dimension and great for avoiding the sameness. I'm very happy to have the playful interaction version as well.

Maria

More and better. It seems incredible how the story that the video creates gives greater depth and feeling to the song. The emotion that the music transmits is complemented and the image does not distract, but rather adds. Brilliant. I adore it.

Karen & Lauren

Three things: First, the hat. At first glimpse, I ha to do a double take that it wasn't Michael Landon I was seeing. Second, when a man cares more about his guitar than himself (cause the newness of it sticks out a bit). And third, I hope you gave Kathy the flowers in the end. 😊

Debs Badger

I was *already* in love with the track, and now I have these beautiful new visuals as well! I'm really digging video 2.0. I'm continually amazed at your creativity and ability to craft the perfect visuals to complement what you are singing. You make it all look effortless. I remain oh so proud to support you. Thank you again for allowing me to ride on this crazy train. 💕

María Gabriela

Dude, it looks amazing. The quality of the clips is top notch.

Jacky Friedman

OMG I love it. I see Daryl got into the video. And you strumming that guitar. Wow. You look hot as a cowboy. Not that you don't anyway 😉

Crisstina Joubert

Wow, you obliterated better and went straight to perfection!!‍🔥❤

kris ivy

Once again, the story telling is top notch. Chef’s kiss to 2.0.

Katherine Powell

Oh my gosh, yes. The storytelling of the added footage totally makes the whole video. As someone else pointed out, I'm glad to have access to the footage of the interactions of the 4 static versions of you, but this definitely takes it up a notch....or 17. I also enjoyed the fade out of the character at the end. I think it was a perfect way to close it out. Amazing work as always. I will be watching this several more times before the 14th. :D

Tim Mummert

As seeing you walking epicly alongside that train... I would love you to do "King of the Road" by Roger Miller

Bob Tompkins

Really enjoyed the addition of the railroad track footage. It really bound everything into a nice story package and I think it honors the song really well. Cool that all the Geoff's have the same taste in timepieces. I guess you guys spend so much time together you get to liking a lot of the same things after awhile. :-)

Jordi S

Wow, full on music video and great storytelling! 🔥 I'm not gonna lie though, I miss some of the interactions between the clones 😉

Laura Harris

Love the music video style of this! These outdoor sets really work for you.

Debbie Buck

Absolutely love this! The vocals and music are great and your acting really helps tell the story! 💓💓

Ruth Barkey

Wonderful version. I really liked the addition of the character on the railroad tracks. This was creative and on point story telling.

Nikki Attwood

Amazing as always Geoff. Beautifully done, great story telling. I have watched this several times already and will definitely be watching it again. The cowboy look suits you well 😊

Gary Wagner

Great arrangement as usual. I look forward to your creations yet to come.

Larry Haynes

The Hobo musician and train motif was a perfect addition to this video. Like everyone else, I'm simply in awe of another amazing piece of work. Thank you again Sir Geoff!

Janet Towles

Song and video are both gorgeous! I do love the new footage, it really tells a story, but I also miss the jokes your navy clone was cracking 🤣. Maybe that’s not the vibe you’re aiming for though? Just if you could leave v1 up so we patrons can watch that one too please 🙏.

Amanda Hovendon

Okay this is now my new favorite video. Superb acting. Superb arrangement. Love the outfits and the guitar. You look great in that cowboy hat! And that black train, is that a clue as to what song you’ll be covering next? 😉

Sarah Borzelli

That is perfection! If I didn't know a bit of your settings, I would believe you have a whole Hollywood filming team behind you! Very nice and credible acting, the lonely, sad cowboy character suits you! Somehow I almost forget it was you...all of them. I'm so astounded how you keep outdoing yourself with each new piece you gift to the world! Bautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Thank you for that! only complaint would be that I would have appreciated a little more sweat (just kidding, I'm only jealous that I wouldn't have looked so good) Oh and I believe the world will be so annoyed that they will all lay at your feet...

Lutra2732

Yes, that explains everything! 😉

Kaleigh Henderson

I love cowboy Geoff. Or is that Daryl? But I will say that I am going to miss dark shirt Geoff’s sass. I said “no!” out loud when the “meh” hand gesture after the first verse was cut. And then his interaction with red shirt Geoff after the bridge riff was cut as well? 😢 Yes, this version fits the song a lot better, and is more cinematic, and makes the song feel more complete. The general public will love it because they won’t know what they’re missing. But for me, the humor was my favorite part of the preview, and I’ll be crossing my fingers for its return in the public version.

ObscureReferenceWoman

Wow! I felt that in my bones! Amazing as always. Love the new bridge and those amazing chords. You look fantastic as always, and that persona on the tracks fits you so well. Did I hear a bit of a nod to "Long Black Train" or "Folsom Prison" in some of those harmonies? This was well worth the wait for the finished product, and I can't wait to see what happens when the reactors get ahold of this one. Love it!

Katherine Powell

I remember reading a comment of someone saying his watch was distracting from the character or theme of one his videos. It's not something that's ever distracted me, but I did notice that for train tracks Geoff he took it off, switched his multi-band leather bracelet to his left wrist and put a single band leather bracelet on his right. A man of constant sorrow.....and details, apparently. :)

Tigsa

I like this so much. It's way better than the George Clooney version. Love the harmonies and the deep dives down to the bass-ment.

Katherine Powell

Does the back of that photograph say Meet you on God's golden shore, or is my mind just making that up? :D

Hunter

Ooh! Why does the rugged look work so well for you? But there’s one thing that confuses me: Weren’t you born in Virginia? And not Kentucky? 🤣

Beth Walsh

Yes just Geoff or all of Voiceplay I've thought that would be a great song

Carol Franklin

Loved it. That hat makes you look totally different!! Love the character just right for this song. When I saw the four Geoffs before I was wondering if it’d be like Country Roads & we’d have another Geoff this blew my ideas out of the water!! I saw the reflection of my eyes in the screen when it finished and they were genuinely awestruck. Can’t wait for it to go live.

Tracie Schlaak

You really want to know what I think? ❤️

Veronica Thunander

The video is beautiful! The rest of the world will be annoyed indeed, or at least the ones in it who aren’t as mind bogglingly creative and good sounding as Geoff and prone to jealousy for that reason… The video is beautiful!! (so is the audio, which we already knew from version 1). Is that Daryl on the train rails!?! (Daryl, don’t ever, ever go on a train rail unless you know for 100% sure that it’s out of use!). I’ve always thought him a bit scary, but he’s beautiful in this one! Or it’s probably Geoff, I believe Daryl is the one in the dark blue shirt.

Jordi S

You just keep finding ways to up the bar and then jump over it

Lori Templeman

I want to know where you got a train!

Gillian Drysdale

Nice train and I love the cowboy look and of course the singing is out of this word ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Sarah Reach

This is a fabulous choice that fits the song so perfectly. And I know I say this a LOT, but you are such a great actor and director! There are so many great moments here, but I especially like the fadeout at the end, and how during that fadeout the camera pans slightly down toward the tracks to see the undergrowth of the weeds below the train. Such a subtle movement that to me shows the passing of time from past to present, where the train is no longer running and your character is gone to God's golden shore. *chef's kiss*

Angie Woollard

This video is amazing! So cinematic! The sunlight at the end is absolutely gorgeous. I am an absolute sucker for details and Easter eggs, so the fact that the writing on the back of the photograph says “Meet you on God’s golden shore ❤️” made my heart soar with delight.

Shannon D

The new footage is beautiful! And the acting and story are great too, it turned out wonderfully. Poor guitar Geoff, his beverage container was much too small, no wonder he ran out of coffee. That's maybe enough for an an hour at most ;)

Amanda Nott

Love it! Particularly the low notes that make your bones rattle!

Angelika Bock

I like the added storytelling a lot, your voice seems to fit country very well..Thank you again for another stress antidote...

Melissa Creel

This is really amazing Geoff!!! The video is beautiful and the vocals are insane!! You are truly talented!!!

Tara Congo

Oh, that was just delightful!! I had no guesses as to what you were going to add to the final video, but I absolutely adore the story you created. That camera work is incredible! And I gushed all over the original post already, but on the music side your cover is just so much fun. That added bridge is the bomb. I was saying this earlier to a few patrons, but I have the greatest respect for how you keep pushing to be creative and improve all the time, rather than sticking with the status quo. Quite a few people commented on the first video that they were happy with just the quartet - you could literally get away with that. Instead, you go all out and make a full gorgeous music video that isn't like anything else you've created to date. Proud as ever to support your awesomeness ❤

Rebecca Mangelsdorf

I loved this video. As a Lutheran Pastor, and since we are right in the middle of Holy Week - it hit just the right spot for me today. God's blessings to you Geoff. Keep up the good work and know that this Pastor is praying for you and your family.

Jason Cranford

This is was just simply amazing! Honey for the ears! You are spoiling us with all this great content Geoff!

Sarah Reach

Aw nice, it does! awesome detail! Geoff - Have I mentioned how much I appreciate these little Easter egg details like that?

Lexy Wolfe (aka Pam)

Oh my goodness, I don't know how but I like this one better than the first video. And I adore the little "stories" in the videos. It makes them more "old school" music videos. Not that the occasional "glorified studio" versions aren't okay, but this...this is art. (And it's a country song. I think my dad will appreciate it. Definitely will share when it's out in the wild.)

Patricia Schuman

As usual, I couldn't imagine what you were going to add to this besides the previously filmed 'quartet version', but you once again transformed an already excellent video into an incredibly moving and thoughtful story. But I do wish some of 'dark shirt' Geoff shade was included. Any chance that instead of showing the corner video of you speaking as you say the 'highest tier' patron thank yous that you could show brief clips of Dark Shirt Geoff's 'that was so-so' response to the first low note and his drawing his thumb across his neck gesture later, and that hilarious view of the various Geoffs walking away/disappearing? If you don't want to do it simultaneously with your spoken read of the names, would you consider throwing it in as 'outtakes' after the patron thank yous? I know some people will always click off immediately after the main video ends, but there are lots of people who know to stick around for some extra 'goodies'.

Karin Wolf

I completely agree with all above! Beautiful song & gorgeous video. BUT: In urgent need of a few good laughs I hope that future songs will stay away from death, deathwishes or near death experinces... Yours in admiration!

Amanda W

Darn. You mean that striptease at the end wasn't meant to be there? Cue music: 🎶'Hello darkness, my old friend...'🎶 😜 And what do you mean, ''annoy the rest of the world...''? We are blessing them. Whether they asked for it or not. 😁

Grace Files

This video is absolutely gorgeous, I love the storytelling that you added into it with the other clips!! Also, you will not annoy the rest of the world with this, they are all going to rejoice when this comes out. Thanks for always making amazing art❤️

Sue Armstrong

I love it! It reminds me of a family story, from when my grandparents rented a farm next to the tracks back in the 30s. Occasionally my grandpa would go out to do chores in the morning and discover a hobo had hopped off the train and spent the night in their barn; he would have to encourage them to move along. I wonder what he would have made of Hobo Geoff. :D He's a fantastic addition to the video.--really enhances the Depression Era feel of the song.

Jay Fritz

Love it right down to the guitar, the empty bottle, and the hole in the hat, Geoff. Every time you do a cover, it's the best version of it yet.

Sandy Mrotek

I said before that the music itself was great but the added video scenes were perfect. Thank you so much.

Beth Walsh

As a PK, wishing you a peaceful Holy Week and a long nap when it's over

Bob Tompkins

I didn't find it distracting either. Just a fun observation. I mean, these guys do seem to have a lot in common. :-) Seriously though, I've always been impressed with the attention to detail Geoff and VP both have. I'm particularly impressed with all the synchronization of audio and video sequences from multiple takes, doing it all themselves where other groups have teams of audio and video folks to do it all for them. It's pretty special.

Stephanie Graham

Such a beautiful video! Love that you keep surprising us with your talents! 💜💜💜

Sue Armstrong

Also, I just realized the tempo of the song(specifically the guitar) is reminiscent of a train moving down the tracks. Nice way to reinforce the railroad motif!

Lois McCray

You know this is going to be another record breaker of how fast it gets to a million views. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Dee Years

Absolutely beautiful and perfect! I liked it better than the last one and that I loved! Thanks Geoff 💓❤️💗

H. Stefan

Great Song and I'm happy to see the whole Band again. 👍

Valorie Rose Lyons

It’s great! More than worth the little extra time it took! Beautiful song. 💖

Christina Dowdican

I Loved the first version, But I have to admit I Love this one even more if that's possible! The additions was just what it needed to tell the story to transport us to that era!Era! 😀 😀😃🙂

Pete Magill

LOVE IT! Wonderful production with, of course, excellent singing! Great job

Kraken Artificer

This one is magnificent, of course, but I kinda miss Goff's judgemental little hand-wiggle

Suzy Bailey

Well I can't deny I missed sassy Jeff a little, but Daryl cleans up nicely bless him! I couldn't imagine what you could add to the video that I didn't already thoroughly enjoy, I really shouldn't question these things. I need to just accept that your creativity, not just with your gorgeous arrangements but the visuals as well, are phenomenal! I might have to stop saying, 'I hate country music'! When you do it, it sounds amazing! 🤠🚂🔥💜

Tören Renée

Don’t understand why Geoff would think this will annoy the rest of the world. Absolutely wonderful version!

Crysti Jones

That train means Long black train is next right? Lol. Always good song and video releases

Angie Woollard

Just typical self-deprecating Geoff-humour. :)

Ilona Dever

Absolutely wonderful!! Sheer genius - not surprised. Love you!

Barbara Binney

I had no idea what the video you set out to make would entail, but I love it. The storytelling elements you added are sheer perfection. The whole video is just beautiful. Is "Best Cinematography in a Music Video" a thing? (I'm not really into award shows so I don't know.) If so, you should win it. If not, they should make it a thing just so you can win it. Not gonna lie, though. I do miss the interaction between the clones, like dark shirt Geoff's "meh" and red-checked shirt Geoff's "sorry." They made me laugh, but I can see how they don't really fit into this final version.

Bart Huhn

I love it, thank you very much!

B Sprak

This is gorgeous. The lows flowed in and out like a ghost train on the tracks. You can feel the train go by with the bass vibrations. As with the first version, I love the upbeat, jaunty nature of the music and vocals. My Mom was old enough to be my grandmother, and one of her Mom's youngest. I'm in my 60's now, and this brings back the stories I heard from my uncles about leaving the ranch in their teens, jumping trains, and traveling the country doing odd jobs on ranches. No constant sorrow there though.

Dani

Ah yes...ANNOY like Amaze, Nonchalantly wrap around your finger, Naturally flabbergast and Overwhelm the Youtubers. I think so too. And hey, look... are that Old and Boring on the train ? Awww they are gone... riding into the sunset. Farewell.

Dani

Honestly this is really awesome. I just don't have this find the right words thing going on everyone else has. I love it! That's all.

Marlo Schalesky

Oh WOW, that is SO fun!! I love it. Just wow!

candi lunsford

Oh, wow. This was awesome! I was thinking we'd see an old timey pic of Kathy when you had that pic out, but I loved the train tracks and costuming. That whole character added so much to the video. Can you actually play guitar?

Tine

This is so stunning Geoff, I love the framing and the storytelling. I do miss some of the interactions between the clones as they were a lot of fun in the first version, but this is just elevating your videos to a whole new level. Absolutely magnificent!

Tal and Bard Lampner

Absolutely love it! But I admit my immediate thought was "gee, I really hope they confirmed those were abandoned railroad tracks before filming." Awesome job, Geoff!

Helen A

The music on this is top-notch, and I love the little added bridge. (I don't know the song well enough to know if that's original.) As for the video, I thought the original quartet version was great, but the added storytelling element of the lonely figure with nothing in the world but a worn photograph and a guitar really adds something special. I don't know if you were going for Great Depression/Dustbowl era, but that's the vibe it gives me. My story-telling brain immediately created a narrative: This man had to leave his loved ones behind and strike out anywhere and everywhere trying to find enough employment to send a little $ back to them, and now he's just wanting to get back home again. The quartet might even be his descendants, showing that whatever ultimately became of the man, his sacrifice wasn't in vain.

SunnyOutlook

Love it! Love it! Love it! I thought the first one was great, but this is fantastic. I’m making sure I don’t miss the public premiere of this one. 💜

Pat R

OMG that is THE MOST AWESOME version of this song I've ever heard.

Girl On Fire

We had Vampire Geoff, Oogie Boogie Geoff, Cowboy Geoff, even Janitor Geoff... but we were missing drifter Geoff 😂😂 who knew?

Melissa Randall

I love those low growls and as always, your hands dance with the music. Love this version!

Ruth Feiertag

I loved the first version and I love this version just as much. The lighting perfectly suited the tone of the song, which seems to have a buoyancy that other versions lack. I notice that, despite the theme of constant sorrow, the drifter has a bunch of baby's breath. That seems to hint at hope of homecoming. I do like some hope. But the empty flask — now *that* was tragic.

Brontesaurus Rex

That was a very undignified stream of squealing noises I just made 😆

Ann Durham

The addition of that delicate, hopeful bouquet of baby's breadth twisted my heart.

Andrea Oliver

Amazing. I love the vocal stacking, and getting to see the rest of the "band". This song always makes me smile.

Arlene Jacobs

Great job! I loved the original version, but you knocked the second one out of the park!!!

R. W. Hansen

I love how up-tempo this version is!

Janet Wright

That song and Geoff’s video really hit home and your interpretation is reminds me of my family’s story. When the dust bowl hit my grandparents farm it became non-productive. My grandfather ended up going to Virginia to work in the coal mines. There wasn’t enough money so my father, at the age of 13, hopped a train with his best friend and came out to California. He was big for his age so convinced them that he was old enough to work and worked as a longshoreman staying in the cold woods surrounding San Francisco. Later he joined the CCC and that income was finally enough to bring the family out. That story has always made me so sad and so appreciative of the life I lead no matter how hard it’s sometimes been. Shortly before my fathers death, Red, that childhood friend, somehow tracked Dad down and we were able to meet him. It was a pretty emotional day.

Shirley B Karr

To go with all the superlatives about the audio and video, I'll add how impressed I am that Friday night you were going to film "in the next day or two," and only four days later it's filmed, edited, and presented as a finished product. Do you ever sleep? While I really enjoyed the snarky interactions of the quartet in V1, HoboGeoff in V2 adds just the right amount of sorrow to show the story of this song that's over 100 years old. (I was only slightly distracted by him wearing Ghost Rider Jeff's vest and pants. Nice easter egg!) Great attention to details with the photo and bouquet, and the whole videography along the tracks is lovely. I hope the thumbnail is a shot of you sitting on the rail, strumming the guitar.

Scott Boa

Are you trying to torture people, making them wait until the 14th before you post this? This is AWESOME. Congratulations Geoff. I didn't think that you could beat Ghost Riders. However, you just did. I LOVE IT. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Amanda Yarbro

Who would we be annoying with this beautiful video??

Sofia Guerra

Amanda W, I'm happy that I'm not alone... I totally missed that ,xD

Christine Stromberg

Wonderful. Your low notes just get stronger and meatier. Brilliant stuff.

Beth Walsh

If by "annoy" you mean "knock their socks off" then yeah, you'll annoy everyone with this.

Maryse B

Bravo! Et merci pour ce nouveau clip! J'adore.

Karen Grace

Yay! We get it to ourselves for another week! 😉 On the other hand, I can't wait to see reactors watch this!

Nathan E

Time for a live take 😉

Maggie Nystrom

Love this & I hope you find more songs to do on that black engine. The Long Black Train seems a natural, but why not Casey Jones or some other real old sonng. Also, if you want to go back underground John Henry might be fun.

Leisa S

Yet another talent - playing guitar 🥰

Jennifer Murphy

The costuming is great-The guitarist on the tracks looks like an entirely different person, very 1970s Steve Perry.

Jacklinka

Are you really sure these rails were abandoned?

Cupcake aka Toni

Love it... even without the stripping Jeoph! (That was Jeoph, right?)

Chere' Evans

THIS! Now, I appreciate the most recent VP song. It's a work of art. But it's not what keeps me coming back. This is what I love - your voice highlighted in the best-sounding part of its range and your face showing the sheer joy of singing. I LOVE it. Beautiful all the way around.
