Excuse me....NO ONE LIKES PALM TREES?? If only you knew the number of pictures I take of myself hugging, literally hugging palm trees on my travels... *reconsiders Patreon subscription* This looked like such an arduous shoot! I was concerned that Layne might turn an ankle, trying to walk backwards on the railroad ties with the steady cam! I'm glad it all turned out so great - the amount of patience you have for your shoots is, frankly, inspiring to me. This video turned out so great and it was really cool to see the vision of it all take shape as you went. Thanks again for a wonderful, wonderful BTS!

Margaret Tassey

Thanks for your patience. What a lot of work. I think the video of a specific man, down on his luck, did add magic to the video. Made the story come alive.

Hunter

First it was Sandhill Cranes and now it’s cats. Except the cat was much more friendly. Great work as always!

Jordi S

Thank you so much for all the time and effort all of you put into this 💕 And Thank You for the time to make the BTS!

Lexy Wolfe (aka Pam)

Anyone who isn't patient doesn't appreciate the effort art takes. (And you're faster than writing novels. Trust me, personal experience talking here.) You are totally worth the wait.

Mikki Fullerton

Glad you were able to salvage the first shoot footage. Outside lighting is tough, but it made for a great feel for the video. Thanks for putting together a BTS for us, these are always cool!

Ashley Evers

How are you two so adorable? Also, we are very glad to wait if it means you DON’T risk your life filming on active tracks. Even if you were successful, I would have felt anxiety every time I watched it.

Tara Congo

Woah - that shoot was a lot more complicated than I was imagining. So much work! Shooting outside (at least in Florida) certainly seems to make everything a thousand times more difficult. Thanks for pushing through, because the end product is gorgeous!! And also thank you for being "old and boring" enough not to go through with Layne's first shooting location suggestion 😬 Live tracks are no joke. And besides - you wouldn't have got to meet that oh so handsome kitty otherwise!

Ellen Reiser

Geoff, thank you for taking the Apple Watch off for the train track shots. My OCD can relax. ❤️❤️❤️

Carol Franklin

As i said in the Valhalla BTS Layne doesn’t do stress! Thank you for not risking your life/imprisonment on a train track. It may not always feel worth it but everything you do is greatly appreciated & the finished videos is one of my favourites already

Jeff with a D

Great footage. Smart move going to the inactive tracks.

María Gabriela

The 'No tresspassing' situation was so funny. 'I don't need all my organs, just a couple of them'

Sarah Reach

Lol, I literally got to that comment and immediately thought, "Ooh, Angie's not gonna like that..." 🤣

Gillian Drysdale

loved it and loved the kitties! that old house oooks a lot less creepy when you’re just using it to get made up! ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Kathy, like you I am 'vertically challenged' and had to laugh seeing the difference on where the top of your head hit the middle of the 'headrest' in the driver's seat compared to how the top of Geoff's head is about six inches above it in a later shot. (I can't begin to count the number of times I've had to push the headrest back down after either my son or husband has raised it up for themselves). But, I gotta admit, there is NO way that my husband could lift me down to the ground like Geoff did for you, LOL!

Amanda Nott

Thanks for sharing the BTS with us! It helps us understand everything that goes into putting a video together! It's a pretty amazing process, actually. And I'm glad you were able to find some unused tracks for the shoot! It's dangerous to use live tracks, particularly since you may have needed to spend a fair amount of time on them.

Badger77722

Always love seeing the BTS of how much work goes into a "simple" video shoot. And how often do you get to see a baby turtle chugging along on its way to wherever? So glad you decided to forego being arrested and/or run over by a train on the active tracks - apparently Layne has no fear, which is not always a good thing for continued longevity!

Tine

I am VERY very glad that you did not go with Layne's filming suggestion, and I'm super glad you were cautious about that. I could not believe how unphased Layne was. I love how you making more music videos is also slowly helping you accrue multiple instruments in the house, even if it is a crappy sounding guitar. It can be a very cool decorative piece. This was really cool to see the BTS for. Thanks as always for sharing all this with us, it's such a pleasure to be able to support you! PS. So now your next cover will be 'Diggin' a hole' by Rhett and Link, right? You both (and Layne of course too) are the absolute best!

Helen A

Geoff: I could be squished by a train, or arrested for trespassing! Layne: *shrugs* You'd have a whole minute to run away. I'm glad you went with the inactive track option. Not only was it safer, but the other locations both had that perfect overgrown and desolate feel to match the mood of the video. And an old-timey train car and friendly cat, just for bonus points!

Sarah Borzelli

I'm glad you found some inactive tracks to film! That was a really enjoyable BTS! I love your creativity and your dedication for your videos - I'm so glad to be able to support you! Keep up your awesome work!

Shirley B Karr

Right? It takes me a year to write and edit a novel, and here he's creating at least one masterpiece a month, and apologizing it takes him so long.

Sandy Mrotek

I LOVE the BTS things that you guys do. Such talent and also it shows how much you all put into each and every video. I was very glad that you found a different train place for those scenes. It gave you much more of the land around the tracks which fit in perfectly with the song that you were doing. There is something about old train tracks that give you the feel of the time period that the song represents. Thank you and Kathy for all the time and effert put into all of this. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

Tracie Schlaak

Wow the work you guys put into this was incredible! I'm proud to be a patron of such a family! Love everything.

Angie Woollard

Kathy: You have really upped your BTS game. Your videos are amazing. You capture the essence, the feel of the shoot, the ups and the downs, the interesting circumstances, the kitties, the world from your point of view as the production manager, and then compile it in such a way that it really just gives me the warm fuzzies. Thank you for all your hard work, both with your production manager hat on as well as your BTS creator hat on. I heart you.

Suzy Bailey

Layne, seriously? Shame on you suggesting Geoff play on the live tracks! I'm glad you didn't risk life, limb or liberty that would definitely be a step too far no matter how good the video! Speaking of... Thanks to you and Kathy for a wonderfully entertaining and informative bts. However stressful it is for you, it makes us appreciate what you do to produce your fantastic videos even more! 🛤😊💜

Dani

I huged a palm tree when we went to france on the Santiago de Compostela and it felt great 😄 Palm trees just make me happy. But then again there is nothing better than a big old oak tree and a beautiful mixed forest.

Grace Files

Thanks for the insightful BTS, it was interesting to see the process of how you got this video rolling! I appreciate you too❤️

Del Rhea Watson

This was such an interesting BTS, with the different filming angles. I thought you had actually filmed out in the middle of nowhere, a la Walking Dead, only to find civilization was * just* beyond the camera’s POV. And then, the train stranded amidst commerce with no tracks….oh look, a cat!! 😻(ponders who is taking care of it). Love the views of Layne and Geoff filming on the tracks. Gives insight into filmmaking. This BTS was high art, just as much as the actual video. Thank you!

Jay Fritz

Just love to see these. And really--you do have a minute to run away..... LOL.

Lexy Wolfe (aka Pam)

"So long." I _wish_ I could create with this level of speed. Relatively anyway. I'd need a lot more disposable cash to support myself to write full time in the hopes of getting completed works out.

Amanda W

Oh, I love this so much. I love the kitties too. Always pet a kitty for good luck. 😸

Debs Badger

I *finally* got a moment to watch this. I must start with: Thank you, Kathy! for taking the time to record BtS footage for us when there is a bajillion other things going on that are infinitely more important to the video. (And also for recognizing when you just canNOT do both. 💕) Wow...a LOT more went into this one than I would have expected. I was not, however, surprised that Layne was both unfazed by the active rails, and oh so casual about the prospect of getting mugged or stabbed. *SMH* 😆. He is a special boy, I'm learning. Thank you both for persevering with this one. The end result is very much worth it. 💕

SunnyOutlook

Thank you so much for sharing. As always, I love these glimpses of how the video is put together. It makes seeing the end product so much better. Hope that makes sense. The wait was worth it. 💜💜💜

Anastasia

Aren't gopher tortoises a threatened species in Florida? And you guys found a baby <3 Super cool! Thank you for another very interesting BTS!

Gretchen G

Thanks for the bts, Kathy. You're the best! 💙 LAYNE, I swear, if you get Geoff run over by a train or some other dumb thing we will send Daryl's ghost to haunt you for eternity! You have been warned. Thankfully, Geoff has more sense than Layne, apparently. And the final video turned out great! Also, kitties! 😺

Amanda Hovendon

Possibly my favorite BTS on this channel. Love the locations. The kitties were so cute. Love the guitar bit. And I think Layne was trying to either get Geoff get hit by a train or sent off to “ the big house.” Lol. (He’s a lovable a-hole) LOL

Judy Wilde

Maybe it’s just because I grew up with a railroad running through town, but I think Layne was right. As long as you stay aware of your surroundings, there’s plenty of time to get away from the tracks when a train is coming. Now, not getting caught might be more of a problem, especially right now in Florida when laws change on a whim. Thank you Kathy for another great BTS. Especially for catching the kitties and the turtle. Maybe not necessary for the video, but you know what we like!

Amanda Yarbro

Was Layne trying to kill you or something?!? Not cool! It was great. Loved seeing the kitties too.

Amanda Hovendon

It was like he didn’t care what would happen! Completely un-phased! LOL

Katherine Powell

Layne: "Prison?! For walking on a train track? There's no law." Geoff: *points to No Trespassing sign* "You're looking at it!!" You guys are great. I'm glad y'all found another option. Great bts video as usual, Kathy. I loved the story about the abandoned train cars. That was so funny. The animal cameos were precious. Layne and Geoff's banter was hilarious. The bts videos are just always so much fun.

Shirley B Karr

The BTS videos are my favorite Patreon perk. Kathy and Geoff, you're both awesome storytellers. Can 'Story Time With Kathy' be a regular thing now?

Marlo Schalesky

I love the BTS videos. My favorite extras!

Janet Wright

I was kinda hoping they would show how she got back UP!

Chris Gregory

yeaaah more behind the scene video !!!

Bart Huhn

Thanks for sharing!

Lourdes Sanz

Wow this was such a hard work!! Loved every part of it! I do like Palm trees… like more other types, though… love Cats!! so it was great to watch them, and the cute baby turtle!! 🥰 You both are so good at this, and Layne too, of course, even though not very safety concerned! Lol Thanks so much for sharing!! Lots of love for you all!!

Cynthia Ross

OMG, someone thump Layne upside the head! Yes, there ARE laws about being on an active track! Yes, you CAN go to jail for it! Never mind the risk. I’m glad you found some dead tracks to use and didn’t risk yourself dancing with a locomotive. No video is worth that. Thank you for the BTS Kathy!

Jamie T.

Aah, other than trying to get you killed, Layne is such a good friend to always be helping you out. 😂 I'm curious, Geoff, do you actually play the guitar? I laughed at the shot with the John Denver songs - I had that exact album and I still have the CD.

Katherine Powell

Rewatching this one and I just realized VoicePlay is part of a little wall of fame in the bathroom. Did all of those people/productions utilize the location somehow? That's very cool either way.

Cupcake aka Toni

You make many valid points, although I don't think the trains on those tracks are electric. Huge and dangerous, though.

Cupcake aka Toni

I think the swap to the disused track and to a sunrise shooting time worked out beautifully, in every sense. The tracks look more period appropriate *and* were safe to shoot on, and that glorious golden light is just perfect. You definitely wouldn't have gotten either of those with Layne's original location and time. Also, kitties!

Veronica Thunander

Thank you so much for this BTS, it was great fun to watch. Still can’t unthink the fact that Layne suggested an active track, kudos to you and Kathy for not listening to his crazy idea but instead searched for an abandoned one!❤️ The video looks so great!

Tema Krempley

What an epic adventure! What was Layne thinking? I really enjoyed this BTS!
