The majority of you liked the medium shot, which was, once again, not the shot I would have chosen. SMACK! (Ouch)

See which of these two you prefer.

Lemme know!

Jason Cranford

The unaware, intimate look of the eyes down speaks the title and fell of the track. Another masterpiece.

Mikki Fullerton

Again, I like the eyes being visible in the eyes up shot. But you almost look like you're smiling, which doesn't fit with the song title well. So I voted Eyes Down still for the overall vibe. By the way fantastic font choice.

Pat R

Both are great but the eyes down just does it for me.

Huldra Draco

oooo, this is a tough one. I really like that we get to see your face better in the eyes up picture, and it makes you instantly more recognizable. but, the vibe isn't quite right, and there's just something special about that eyes down picture that I can't quite explain why is better...

Angie Woollard

Eyes up. It’s a great shot of you, and you look contemplative and slightly wistful. I wouldn’t be disappointed by eyes down, too, though - it conveys a similar mood. But eyes up is more engaging and people like to see your handsome face. ETA: I see people commenting on the 'sorrow' that needs to come through in the photo and I guess that's true, but I know this song from the movie, and the musicality of the song itself kind of betrays the lyrics for how upbeat and driving it is, so I keep forgetting about the 'sorrow' part of the song title! Keeping my vote for eyes up.

Kimmy

Both are great but if I have to choose I'd say eyes up. I like that we see your face a little more

Maria Stoycheva

This will be a difficult one. I really hope you get a clear winner but that seems unlikely :D

Amanda Nott

I like eyes down because I feel like if someone is sorrowful, they are downcast, so it makes sense to have the face turned down.

Mary Benno

Eyes up looks too hopeful. I pick eyes down for a little more sober sorrow.

Angie Woollard

I do hope, though, that people won’t see the guitar and click on it thinking they are going to get you playing the guitar for this whole song…

Jill Weimer Koeninger 🐉

Eyes down...because is a person is one of "constant sorrow", eyes are usually looking down.

Jacky Friedman

Definitely eyes down so your looking at the guitar instead of out into space somewhere. And all of you and the guitar. Not just part. I also like this instead of the closeup because everyone will know it's your video. Gives them the element of surprise. Especially with your intro that Layne had suggested. Which I tremendously love. You don't want to show them who you are before you show them who you are. Just my opinion.

Jacklinka

Eyes up, definitely. More speaking to the viewer, I think.

Sarah Reach

I definitely prefer eyes up. It is the best compromise between the close and medium shot from last time. You aren't as sad looking in this one as the last close shot, but I don't get smiling from it, more neutral/pensive. Eyes down also works well though. Both are great choices, and I can see already it is going to be a split opinion.

Tara Congo

Ooo, this is a tough one. I think I still like "eyes down" better because the composition is just nicer to me. Can't go wrong with either one, though. Now I'm curious about which you thought we were going to go for!

Barbara Binney

Another tough choice. Jeez. Stop doing this to us. While I love to see your eyes, your left eye in the Eyes Up shot is just too squinty for me. Plus, like Mikki said, the bit of a smile in that shot doesn't convey "Constant Sorrow" so I went with the Eyes Down. To be honest, though, I wouldn't mind either one.

Deb Dodson

Eyes down - you look more sorrowful in this one.

Rosie Boughen

Eyes Down is more “sorrow” ;)

Jacky Friedman

As I look more at the pictures my vote stands even more because in the eyes up one it looks like you're looking at someone. When you're supposed to be alone. Looking down your playing the guitar and in "constant sorrow". Like most guitar players do anyway when they're playing.

Dani

Is this turning into a smack the right Geoff game? At this point it is a win/win situation. Both are great. But I like eyes down for all the above mentioned reasons. It just fits the mood. And I really wanna know what your first gut feeling was. Don't say gastric distress.

Lorraine Tellei

it's about you and the guitar, sorrow, not you and the viewer. Eyes down

Ashley Evers

Either of these would be fantastic, but I think eyes up is slightly better. I would still move you over a little to the right, though 😁

Laura Harris

Love both! Eyes down fits the mood and title better though.

Carol Franklin

I think down is more sorrowful so that’s my choice

Melisendre

I like the eyes up more because it's so optimistic. But the eyes down is more sorrowfull so I choose this one.

Patricia Schuman

Both are great! I chose eyes up but the other shot is wonderful. Probably won't matter, because it you don't like the click rate 15 minutes after releasing to the public, you'll probably switch it to a shot of the guitar, hat and baby's breath. ;-)

Amy Petty

Just to reiterate, I don't like either of these thumbnails. First, I don't think they convey the emotion of the song, and also I think they just don't work as well as the Close version for thumbnails people will be looking at on small screens. That said, of these two, the one with your eyes up is definitely better than the one that obscures them.

Angie Woollard

I'd actually LOVE a shot of Geoff walking down the railroad tracks, guitar case and baby's breath in hand.

Dani

Okay that is not gonna be very helpful but I like the image division (fond/position) in the eyes up picture better. And eyes up into the far away (home) distance could also be seen as sorrowful and longing. And you could also be smiling (but that is barely a smile for me) because of good ol memories while all alone in the present. Your song Interpretation is somewhat hopeful. My unpopular opinion would be Geoff walking away on the railway tracks into the sunset and unsure future, leaving eveything behind. That would be interesting. But I can already hear everyone saying No! You can't do that to the audience. Ok I am out.....Smacks self

Rebecca Hendricks

Oh, for Pete's sake. I'm still in the minority on these polls. 🤦‍♀️ Oh, well.

Beth Walsh

This was a tougher call than the other, but I think the eyes down is more sorrowful, fits the theme of the song better. But I wouldn't be unhappy with the eyes up one either.

Anna L

I like the eyes up version more as a picture, but the mood of the eyes down version fits the song better

Ellen L Brownell

Eyes down is my choice. Eyes up you appear too happy for man of constant sorrow.

Ilona Dever

Eyes up for me. Staring off into the distance doesn't take away the feel of the song.

Suzy Bailey

Oooh, give us an even tougher choice Geoff, thank you! 😁 Immediately, eyes down seems to fit the sorrowful vibe more. However, the wistful look of eyes up still works. Again I'm going to just go with my first reaction, eyes down!

Badger77722

Me, too. I didn't even see the original poll until after it had already been decided, and I liked the quartet better than either of the single shots. And I'm still in the minority at the moment, as eyes up still isn't doing that well.

Dani

I just switched sides for the very first time xD but I guess these polls are a thing of constant sorrow.

Tine

Don't really have a preference amongst these two myself..

Virginia Small

The eyes up one makes you look contemplative or thoughtful. I might even say content or happy. The eyes down one is more in keeping with the song title.

Patricia Schuman

(Sung to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat) Smack, smack, smack the Geoff Clearly, can’t you see? Geof-fer-ry, Geof-fer-ry, Geof-fer-ry, Geof-fer-ry We just can't agree

Dani

🤣🤣🤣

Rebecca Hendricks

Me, too! At least we're in good company. Sounds like Geoff is also in the minority. 🤣

☆Rachel☆

eyes up has a lighter background. the grass/wheat has a big dark spot in the background on eyes down. it's distracting from you.

Debs Badger

More smackin? Sign me up! 🤣🤣🤣

AmbularD

Gotta agree with the majority. Eyes up is a nicer picture, but eyes down is definitely more appropriate to the song.

Lexy Wolfe (aka Pam)

It is hard to see the expression for eyes up, so the brighter light on the face can come across as too happy for a song with 'sorrow' in the name. Also "Man of" and "Const" are really washed out by the background.

Grace Files

I chose eyes up because I like how that looks, but I agree that the eyes down does fit the song better.

Shirley B Karr

I'd still prefer to see your eyes, but thumb #4 as is doesn't work for me. It's much sunnier (you're squinting) which makes it harder to read the white text on a light background. The text would need outlining. I do like the body moved farther to the right, as opposed to more of the text on top of you.

Dani

This turned into a Smash Brothers/Smack Geoffettes Party🙈

Amanda W

Eyes up is more recognizably you, when it's viewed as a small thumbnail. I do love the view of your hands on the guitar.

Metaz

Eyes down is more in line of the song title imho.

Sarah Borzelli

awww poor Geoff, didn't mean to smack you! Maybe next time you could...you know...leave a subtle hint😉

Angie Woollard

Exactly. E.g.: Let me know which ̶s̶o̶n̶g̶ thumbnail you'd like to see below and why it's S̶a̶d̶d̶l̶e̶ ̶U̶p̶ thumbnail #2.

Nerdy Wordy Princess

I like the eyes up picture better, but I think eyes down makes more sense with the theme of the song.

Angie Woollard

Those strikethroughs didn't copy over quite as I'd hoped, but you get the idea...

Crisstina Joubert

Opinions, schminions, yours is deservedly the one that matters. Thanks for including us, and no smack intended!😊💖

Maggie Nystrom

The eyes up works. The letters need to be a darker color or outlined. Maybe a dark brown like the hat. Where did you find such a rugged looking yet neat hat?

Alex Walker

I prefer to see a person's eyes, so yesterday I selected the close, and today I go for eyes up.

Rachel Blackthorne

I prefer the eyes up...we want to see your pretty face!💗

Ann Durham

The eyes up is a better picture of you, but eyes down goes better with the mood of the song.

Jay Fritz

Geoff, you're in good company as to not having a clue of what people will choose. I picked the close and then eyes up.

Dan Black

The eyes-up one feels off balance because of the leaning to the right. Eyes-down feels more like it fits the song anyway. So my vote is eyes-down.

Janet McAndrew

I like eyes up because I like your face, but eyes down is more mysterious, as has been said. Eyes down. I liked the close up the best, though

B Sprak

I chose eyes down because it looks more like you are playing, whereas eyes up looks more like you're holding but not playing the guitar. I think I'd prefer eyes up if it gave the same impression of actively playing the guitar as the eyes down version does.

Karen Grace

Eyes down gives a more somber feel and seems more fitting to the song. The eyes up gives the feel that you're gazing off lost in thought but doesn't give a hint if those thoughts are good or not.

Ditte Stina Jensen

I like your smile and the glint in the eye in the eyes up photo, but I'm not sure it'll fit the song of a "perpetually sad fellow" So I'll go with the eyes down (if that is the mood you want)

Cynthia Ross

So which one did you think we were gonna choose? Come on. You can’t just leave us hanging like this!

Ruth Feiertag

Choose the one you like. It's your creation after all.

Shirley B Karr

I'd guess the quartet, as that's the pic he used in the 'See it first on Patreon' teaser.

Ashley Evers

He hadn’t done the other shoot yet at that point, though.
