ANOTHER ONE. Johnny Cash will always be a favorite of mine so you'll have to forgive my indulgence here. I've been listening to this one for a few years now and always wanted to try my hand a version with piano. I hope you enjoy this little taste of one his underserved songs.

Enjoy.

PS - I'm not 100% sold on the Black and White version of the video , so you'll have to let me know what you think. Black and white or color?

Comments

Debs Badger

This is stunning, Geoff! 🥰 I LOVE the black & white.

Jessica Lord

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Cynthia Ross

I think it suits the song, but I’m not sure that it’ll help grab attention.

Jordi S

Oh My! ❤️ This is another one that should be a full version. I love the black and white

Emily Zabst

As I have never heard this song before now can I still say I want a full version 😂

Lacy McCloud

Wow...beautifully done ❤. That went straight to my soul. Hopefully these goosebumps will go away soon. Amazing. And what a simple, BEAUTIFUL video 🖤

Darlene Cheatham

For this song I love the black and white 🥰

Lacy McCloud

And yes, definitely go with the black and white.

Sophie Heidi

So beautiful 😍 I love the black and white. It definitely fits the song!

DnD Addict

Love the look of this one, very classy

Hunter

Do you see better in black and white or color? I like black and white for “antique” style, but if you wanna splash color on it, go for it!

Beth Comer

Um, first of all- black and white, yes, it's an incredible effect... No- first of all is dear *god*, I wish you would record a full-length version of this song, in exactly this style. And the black and white footage is a good choice. And of course it bears repeating- a full length version of this would be amazing, even if it could easily break me. And thank you, so very, very much, for even this extraordinarily affecting snippet. It's so powerful.

Eileen Parkman

I like the moodiness of the black and white. If you're not happy with it, perhaps a sepia monochomatic filter would serve well.

Huldra Draco

Wow... Just...wow. Please please please do more Johnny Cash, this was frickin AMAZING! 🤩

Amanda Hovendon

I like the monochromatic feel. It’s more dramatic. This is just beautiful Geoff

Ashley Evers

Black and white feels appropriate for the Man in Black. All my comments about how good this is are just expletives, so fill in however many you like, that’s how good this is.

Melanie Hobbs

This is a new song for me, so I'll have to play it on repeat for a day or two. I'm not sure about the B&W. It's already a pretty dark set, so a little colour might be nice.

Alyssa Daniels

Love the B&W and if this short version is any indication of what a full length version would sound like, please do it!

Gretchen G

Oh wow, that's incredible. I've never heard this song before. Really great lyrics too. I think the black and white suits it.

Jacky Friedman

Very beautiful. Never heard this before but I love it.

Doroti 🤍

L.O.V.E. the black and white. Though I'm probably biased. I'd love it if you kept it like this!

Tara Congo

Well I don't even know why, but that made me tear up. This is my new favourite "short" of yours. Would not object to a full version in the least. I loved that. And the black and white is absolutely perfect. Of course we're going to be a bit biased because that's the only version we've seen, but it adds so much to the atmosphere of the piece. Just wonderful.

Debbie Buck

This is soulful and gorgeous!

Mary Benno

This song really suits you. Beautiful! Longer please…..

Cara K

Absolutely the black and white! Nailed it again Geoff!

Mythos Myths

That was soul wrenching. Thank you. I am going to lie down and cry now.

Patricia Schuman

I'm nearly always partial to black and white. The only way I could even remotely picture this in color would still be pretty drained of color and a very blue/purple-tinted spotlight, still throwing half of your face into shadow.

Ashley Evers

Also, seriously, always indulge yourself. We love it so much.

C

I'd just finished commenting on your other post that I almost never get chills from music, and here you are doing it again. That was gorgeous. I'd love to hear more shorts (or longs) of you doing this kind of poetic, moody, haunting music.

Erma Payne

I've never heard that song by Johnny Cash who I followed for years. I certainly love your version. It's just beautiful!

Jason Cranford

I've never heard the song before but I don't think I'll listen to any other version but this......

Celia

Black and white for sure! Beautiful!

Katherine Powell

Wow, Geoff. This is beautiful. Your voice is truly, mesmerizingly stunning here. I absolutely love this, and I enjoy the black and white. It seems fitting to me.

Cloudy Skies

This brings tears to my eyes...not common for me. Hauntingly beautiful.

Ann Durham

I love the moodiness of black and white.

doug muchow

Amazing! Keep those Johnny Cash songs coming!

Maryse B

I don’t know this song but for it’s going to become one of my favorite. Thank you Geoff for making me know new old song LOL and to make me discover great singer.

Randiskye

This is beautifully sad and I think the black & white and the play of the shadow and light are well utilized for this tune. It suits the material well. Not having seen it in color, I still think it's well served to keep it black & white.

R. W. Hansen

This one made me tear up. It was indescribably beautiful. Thank you for all you do for us.

Grace Files

I don't think that I know this song but man I loved this. It you never fail to impress me with your voice. And I say black and white, it fits the vibe of the song.

minamiS

Love this

Maggie S

Love the song! Black and white film fits the song.

Shari Hibberd

I don't remember hearing that before, but nice introduction!!!

Lexy Wolfe (aka Pam)

Black and white or sepia...definitely something subdued. (Awesome song. Thank you again.)

Dorothy Rosenberg

I watched this video after “I put a spell on you”, so I’m torn: the artist in me LOVES the B&W video; but green is my favorite color, so the back lighting of the previous video also appeals. BTW both ”simple”, well-sung songs, accompanied by only piano, are exceptionally beautiful. Both of these shorts deserve full renditions. If forced to choose, I’d vote for B&W - music supersedes optics.

Cordelia Palmer

Jebus Crebus. I have chills down my spine. That was beautiful.

Jill Weimer Koeninger 🐉

I forgot to breathe listening to this one. But, really, I'm okay...didn't have to have someone call 911 for me.

Zena Darling

Wowowowow. I would love a full length of this one!

Lady D Richter

Oh, the B&W, for sure! I know I haven't worked in a studio for almost 35 years, but after watching both videos, the bright white against the green backlight was too harsh in the "Spell." It needed more shadow. The B&W for the somber tone of this was absolutely perfect!

Laryn Ann Tapp

Wow!!! Love this and love the black/white!

Melanie Jessup

Black and white... 100% It suits the song perfectly

Amanda Nott

This is amazing! I ike the black and white. I think it goes with the melancholy feel of the song. Btw I am always amazed by how you can simply jump octaves in the middle of a song.

Melanie Jessup

Agreed, if not black and white, sepia would be just as beautiful.

Melanie Jessup

It was suggested above that a good alternative to black and white would be sepia. That would give it a warmer feel.

Kelley ONeal

The black and white definitely fits. Johnny would be proud and very impressed.

Alex Walker

Never heard it before, but you sure make it sound fantastic! And the b/w fits perfect! Thanks, as always, Geoff!

Suzy Bailey

The b&w is definitely, fittingly dramatic. I wish there was just a tad more contrast between you and the background tho'. I always say we need a full version of every short, but this one more so cries out for a full song, though I would need tissues by the end. Beautiful and soulful, my chills have goosebumps! 😥😊💜

J.L.

Black and white is perfect -- and also, full length, if you want, please!

Cécile Roussey

You have very good musical tastes and you interpret it very well... when I hear and see you, I am completely in it and you make me dream... black and white and also in color... because the first video I really loved... and also this video ^^

Levonne Price

I love the black and white, but I really love the touch of green in "I put a spell on you"

Lutra2732

Black & white fits pefectly to this wonderful rendition of the song!

Judith Kern

Black & White, what a beautiful song. Thank you..A full version would be great.

Karin Wolf

The black & white one has the taste of finality to me. Colors gone. Reduced to the very essence... so "color or not" depends on the song for me. Perfect choice this time...

Tine

Oh Geoff. These shorts are simply gorgeous! I do like B&W, but perhaps for the full effect like a filter could be used to make it look like an old recording? I also do really like the Green on Spell On You though. Really gives that lone lounge singer after the lounge has closed vibes. What incredible song choices you made. Wow. I really hope these do well, as selfishly I would really love more of these🥰😍 Thank you so very much!

Sarah Borzelli

You moved me to tears with this one - the lighting, your expression; it's a gorgeous interpretation. Perfect choice with the black and white, it underlines the finiteness of life.

Hector Solana

Geoff, you let me wanting to hear the entire song... It ought to be illegal to do that! Ha.

Anja Eder

As I said in the previous short....let it continue to be sprinkled on....and then you told me something else!!!! It's like Easter, Christmas and birthday in one day 🤗

Anja Eder

By the way, there is something very calming about black and white!!!!!

Angelika Bock

Such a treat- this sunday is a ear-feast!

Dooley

Black and White suits the song. Good one, too.

Tiina Nyrhinen

Wonderful ❤️ Black and white suits for this very well.

Laura

Starting a petition for a full version. Or a go fund me...? Could bribery work? 🧐

Leonie Frenkert-Ghazi

As far as I know, Bruce Springsteen wrote the song in 2002 and Johnny Cash performed it in 2003 shortly before his death. His voice was already marked by his impending death. The song, especially Johnny's version, shows us the finiteness of our existence. Your interpretation, Geoff, should definitely be published in black and white! That fits the context!

Filiz E

I love it so much!! and I think black&white is a good choice for this song.

Kadyia81

Goeff, this ist beautiful. It made me tear up. The black and white fits perfect for this song. I love it. Thank you for this.

Veronica Thunander

I thought this was a Springsteen original! I love it (I’m not all that fond of Springsteen’s studio version, but I love his “live in Dublin” version!)! I like the black and white and I think you’re doing a wonderful version of this song! Edit: I saw another comment also saying they thought it was Springsteen. My interpretation of his entire album (The Rising), including this song, is that it deals with the difficulties and importance to meet and trust others again after a trauma (it was written after 9-11).

Jeanette Pencz

I didn’t know this song but it is soooo beautiful 🥰 You are amazing 😘 And I find black and white perfect for this song

Veronika Troll

Beautiful! I like the black and white theme

Riley

I'm digging the black and white. It's such a somber song, it really seems to fit. Beautifully sung and performed!

Sofia Guerra

Magical.... I'm Team "Black and White" :)

Lizzy Hite

I really love this one, and the black and white is neat too!

Jamie Marcus

I like it a lot, being a Johnny Cash lover. I love you on piano. I like the black and white , only thing (just my opinion) it is a to dark. For me having background a little lighter would be nice. Can’t wait to see whole work. Thank you for clip for us 🙂🎃

Bart Huhn

Black and white is perfect imo

Deborah Krach

I think that black and white video fits the song and its somber tone. I love it.

SunnyOutlook

I absolutely love the black and white. Sometimes that's the best way to convey certain emotions or atmosphere. Would love to hear a full version. I haven't heard this song by Johnny Cash. I'll have to go give it a listen.

Bonnie Lawrence

I like the B/W. Love your voice. I could & do listen all day.

Frances Smith

This one tears me up. Beautiful and black and white is perfect choice for the somber nature of the piece.

Cindy Barber

I LOVE the B&W and I also will never say, eh, to you covering Johnny Cash! This gave me chills, I love it!

Melisendre

i like the black and white. it is something different.

Alison L

I like the black and white

Sandra JB

Black and white is great for this one.

Christina Buchanan

Love the black and white for this. And I would love to hear the full song someday.

Agnes EvaR

This is sad but beautiful. Thank you, Geoff! I love this black and white version.

B Sprak

Oh this is so sad, so touching, and yet there's hope in it. Just gorgeous Geoff! I hope you plan to do the whole song someday.

Novi Hallberg

This is like a taste of a high end chocolate. Dark, rich and giving you cravings for more 🤎

Emily Houk

I think performing a song from "The Man in Black" is well done in B&W :)

Silv E

Oh, holy wow. This is magnificent. I never heard this song before, but now I find myself wishing for a full version.

Kiri Ullman

I can’t believe I’ve never heard this song, a situation I shall now rectify, because OH MY STARS what is this doing to me?!

Frances Smith

This is beautiful. Wish you would do a full version of this-even just for Patreon people..

Sandy Parker

This was so haunting, it gave me chills. Would love to hear a full version of this. (I think if I sent you my grocery list, you could make me love hearing you sing it LOL) Black and White is the only way to film this. Have you thought about doing "Pain"?

Sandy Parker

Opps, the name of the song is "Hurt" not Pain. First line is "I hurt myself today".

Crisstina Joubert

Geez, haunting is right...beautiful. Thank you for EVERYTHING you bless us with!!!❤

Amanda Yarbro

Keep the B&W. Love this beautiful version!

Silv E

Thank you for putting this on Spotify! Made my day! :)

Lady Payne

The B&W really works with this song

Sharon Bapp

B&w is a good change up for some of these songs. I would continue to use it but not over use it.

Judi B E

Such feels....I'm changed.

Marna Brown

B&W working for me. Now this little bit of that song is really, really a teaser! It's awesome and my ears are screaming.... Where's the rest of this freaking song????!!! I must immediately go and see if I can locate where is the whole song somewhere! Anybody know? If so please let me know!! 💕
