Yeah… this may end up being the rare year where I vehemently disagree with the top picks. Which is totally fine of course. It’s their personal list. I have been positively floored at the level of depth and expertise on display in Silksong. The further I get, the more I appreciate why it took seven years to make. Yes, it’s very difficult at times. Yet death has never once felt unfair or cheap. Controls and hitboxes are razor sharp, while every incoming danger is projected. The nonlinear map is intentionally lo-fi to encourage environmental exploration and storytelling, and marking your own points of discovery. These facets are much of the reason Hollow Knight is so universally revered. While I adored E33 for its characters and narrative, the wonky balancing Act 2 onward really took me out of it. Being able to oneshot most enemies without grinding—including many grand battles, skipping enemies’ movesets and dialogue—is simply poor design. Not to mention the poor UI, audio mix, and general UE5 issues. I hope Jacob and Suriel are able to speak to Silksong the way Leo spoke for Hitman. Because today’s discussion, the perspectives of which are 100% valid, really missed the mark in my opinion. If nothing else, this will encourage me to jump up to the $10 tier for the pissy zone. :)

I LOVE Silk Song, but I may love hearing Janet go off on it even more. I love her ability to fairly critique a game, even if I disagree with her! 😊

Here's your post about Wednesday, Kyle: the episode where Wednesday and Enid swap bodies is very fun because the two actors know each other's characters so very well. Aside from that, if you want to see some quality actors have a lot of fun I'd recommend it, and tons of Tim Burton sauce so you need to like that flavor. But I can also understand why people aren't Gaga over it... despite the fact that Lady Gaga is in it.

I need to go back and listen to the Expedition 33 episode or Deepest Dive. I love RPGs but eventually the combat and parrying wore me down with how repetitive it felt, so I'm surprised to hear how much Ben liked it. Even from a narrative standpoint the premise is interesting but never hooked me in, I never came to care about the characters. It'll be an interesting GOTY discussion for sure as E33 is a solid package but other games from this year do combat and story better.

The MGSV theme song gas-lighting didn't get a big pop from the cohorts, but stumbling into that naturally was a real trip! I did assume Duran Duran was in MGSV, and when I researched it I got all this false data confirming my belief from Google, YouTube, Reddit, and a bunch of AI answers that kept jumping out at me to agree. Trying to figure out the actual truth felt like I was going crazy. It's a really fun 5 minutes for Metal Gear fans. Especially considering the game's themes like Venom Snake and the La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo

Beau!

Doom The Dark Age is my GOTY so far

Blue Prince’s perhaps biggest twist (mid spoiler) is that the end credits are a big red herring. They roll 1/3 of the way through, mechanically and story wise. So when people talk about “finishing” it after reaching Room 46 it always bums me out 🥲. So much more to see!

Very funny hearing a bunch of things I love about silksong listed off as reasons they hate it

I don't get JeffM hating the Silksong map, and saying it's hard to read. Is he using the L1 button to see the zoomed in view of his current area?
