Konnichiwa Minnimus Maxximus! It was announced that the Xbox series one controllers will still use AA batteries by default. A lot of people seem to be upset by this and want Microsoft to switch to internal rechargable batteries like Sony. Personally I prefer this method, specifically because I can buy a rechargable battery pack and use that. This allows me to easily replace the battery pack of it goes bad (unlike PS4 which requires taking apart the controller). It also let's me have multiple battery packs, so when one does I can pop in another to keep playing wireless, or I can plug it in to charge. I usually recharge my packs when watching TV/movies. What are your preferences and why?

Jermaine from Chicago. Hi Ben and crew stay safe and keep those hands washed. My two questions. Do you guys think that the new half life game could be ran on ps5 and could you see a port coming with Sony Vegas headset? I’m late to the party but I really am enjoying this Sony Spider-Man game minus the Peter Parker science stuff because that’s what a normal person wants to do in a video game is work in a science lab and clean up the environment. But yeah I think Xbox should have its Spider-Man like game with a dc character. I wouldn’t use the big three but I would make a the flash game? Which dc i.p would make a good game outside the big 3 thanks.

Howdy MinnMaxers, What are some search features you’ve wanted to see in storefronts like Steam and now Game Pass? Recently I’ve always had Howlongtobeat.com pulled on my phone while I search for a new game. Would you guys search for a new game by length? Or how about gigabyte size? Thanks and keep up the hard work!

With the major distribution in production of all forms of entertainment media there will undoubtedly be a drought in content in the not too distant future. Whats at the top of your list of things to re-watch / re-play?

Jerry Young

Hi Ben! Had a question about next gen launch titles. In the past, launch games have always been very hit and miss with new consoles as developers work to get familiar with the new hardware. This time though, everyone seems really excited for the launch games coming for both consoles. Why the change this time? Do you think it is fair to expect launch games will be better this time around?

BenMax, Smells hold memories. A couple smells remind me of video games. Cigarette smell makes me long for World of Warcraft due to my 7th grade neighbor’s dad always smoking in his garage when we walked into the house as he played WoW. The smell of Weed reminds me of MvC3 and playing with my brother in law late nights in his shanty. Nevertheless, do you have any nostalgic smells? Video game related or otherwise?

Hey Friends, my wife has always dabbled in games, but mostly with things in 2d, because she always struggled with duel analog sticks. Since Death Stranding had been announced, she had been very curious to try it (something about loving games where you do "regular" jobs). Once again she struggled with simple traversal, so I figured I'd invert the right joy stick for her. She said this sorta feels better and then went back into the options to invert both sticks. Instantly, she was able to maneuver Sam Bridges, and many of the struggles she had with 3D games went away. SHE'S A FREAK! I chalk this up to her thinking of movement like you would with operating a camera on a tripod (everything is opposite). We now beat Death Stranding and with that I must ask, has there ever been a time where after altering the controls, it completely changed your experience with a game for the better? Thanks for all your hard work during these weird times!

Shakenbake67

Hey MinnMax crew, playing Animal Crossing has been an experience. Starting off not really liking it but as the game opened up and I could do more things, I am absolutely hooked. What are games in the past, that you did not like at first but ended up loving as you spent time with the game?

Sincerly, Eric

What's up Ben and the Quarantinis! What is the one single player game Campaign that you have played through the most? What stands out to you about it?

Ben

Hey guys hope u are all doing well, and thanks for actually pronouncing my last name correctly though I guess in Minnesota you have more experience with Dutch names. Not a question per se but last you you guys were talking about exercising during gaming and I got flashbacks to doing squats during FFXV "fast travel" between locations where it took like 5 minutes even when skipping the ride. So yeah, FFXV is a great game to squeeze exercise into especially in the post game where the rides between dungeons take for ever

Hello Ben & The Corona Cautious Cohorts! I've gotta question! I live in the state of Alabama. With everything going on right now concerning Covid-19, I'm seeing a lot of people who just arent taking this seriously to any degree. I'm currently still having to work every day, which I'm of 2 minds about, but I wont get into that. Either way, it had me thinking about all the great "HA! I TOLD YOU SO!" moments I've had in video games. Primarily the Mass Effect Reapers situation. My question for you all is, what's your greatest "I told you so!", redemption moment in a video game? Also, am I too vindictive to feel so satisfied when I get those moments? 🤔 Thanks for keeping us entertained! Stay safe

Brenton and Meriam

Hey M&Ms, I was playing through Bloodborne recently, and came to a part of the game where animalistic howls were subtly integrated into the background. Being unfamiliar with this section of the game, I could have SWORN it was my hound dog howling at something out side. I had to mute the volume 3 times, mid howl, before I was sure that it wasn’t him. I’ve had similar situations where a particular background noise sounds like a loved one yelling my name, or thinking there was an uninvited child in my room when Atreus yelled “behind you” through the speaker in the back corner. I’d love to hear your stories of game audio tricking you, if you’ve got them! Stay safe!

Grizzled Gaming

Hopefully I can bring back some pleasant memories with this question. What is the best compliment you have ever received?

Hey MinnMaxers! How's everyone's apocalypse going? (And Jeff, how's your apocalypse SPECIFICALLY going?) So, for obvious reasons, I've got a question for you all: What are the best "I'm sick and stuck at home on the couch" games of all time? (Note: Because I normally did podcasts on the way to and from work, I'm one podcast behind right now. As such, I apologize if this question was asked last week.) Thanks for all you do! You guys are awesome.

Yarrow

Hey MinnMax! Let's say an evil wizard came and turned you into a boss. How would your fight play out and what would be your weaknesses that would allow the player to beat you. Thanks!

Fred Dinovo

Howdy y'all, but especially JeffM, how ya doing bud? With the potential risk of delayed shipments of physical copies of the FFVII Remake, how many people do you think will say "screw it" and end up buying a digital version on release day? I have a discounted version pre-ordered, but I know I'll be tempted if Friday 4.10.20 rolls around and my copy is in limbo. XOXO, Thanks!

PhillyYeetSteak

Hey cohorts! Well, current times have been pretty rough lately, so let's reminisce! How was high school for you guys? (For me, i did well in school and had a close group of friends that got super into Rock Band when that came out). Thanks and take care!

Hello Jeff and the M's, You have an opportunity to lock yourself into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber from DBZ. How long do you stay and what games do you play? For the purposes of this question let's say that 1 day in real life is equal to 30 days in the chamber. I would spend two months in the chamber (a real life weekend) and would tackle lengthy games like Persona 5 and I'd also spend some time playing Rocksmith to learn guitar! Cheers, Nick L from Indy

Hey friends! It’s been weird staying in quarantine. Just my dog and me but I’m lucky that I can work from home. It does get quiet though, and I was wondering what it’s like for those who are quarantined with others. Also, if you were quarantined with a video game character, who would you want? And who would you get annoyed with fastest?

Hello Ben and the CLCs, What is the funniest office prank or prank, in general, that you have been a part of or witnessed? Nothing mean, just good natured/fun stuff. A buddy of mine at work and I used to play pranks on each other. One day I discovered that he and his family had gone to one of those theme parks modeled after the Old West where they had taken a photo in costumes to fit in with the time period. Before he came in to work that day, I created "Wanted" posters and hung them around our office, I made some make shift handcuffs, and when he came through our office door, I even put on western style music before declaring him officially "under arrest" for being an outlaw. He spent weeks afterwards coming up with a prank to get me back, and we continued to prank each other for years following this. Thanks as always for the podcast and all of the great content that you generate for us in the community. Best, Mark Garcia Plano, TX

Hello. Quick question that you’ve probably heard already, but what the hey. Do you think people currently living through a pandemic will want to play a game about a fictional pandemic and living life after it? Said game in question is The Last of Us 2. Thoughts?

Alexander Dunbar

Pitch the first game idea that comes into your head. Don't think just pitch it. Alex d Dunbar Conroe texas

Hey, guys. What is your strategy when it comes to playing through games? It seems like you guys are always juggling a bunch of different games at once because you want to experience everything. I also did that for years, but earlier this year, I decided I was going to strictly play one main game at a time and vow to make at least some progress on it each day that I had time to play something. It has been such a breath of fresh air, and I'm already up to 16 games finished this year, many of them larger games like Final Fantasy IV or the Mass Effect series that I've always wanted to get through, but just never have. Obviously some games like Animal Crossing are not made for that type of play, so they are exceptions to the rule, but I think if you narrowed down your focus when picking games to play, you might be surprised at how satisfying it is to make a simple list and play them through in sequence.

James Smith

Hey Benjamin and the Hanson Five, Not game related, but could be considered in the interest of getting better: What's your favourite feel-good movie? For me it's Remember the Titans. I recently rewatched it and had a huge smile on my face for the majority of the runtime. Thanks for the good content!

Hey Han's son and the Orphans:

Hope all is well. As a thought, when you did the Last of Us 2 you mentioned the heart rate programming- I thought of at the time "Why?" Are your thoughts different about that level of insane detail-which won't sell even one extra copy- differently now that Naughty Dog's methods are in discussion.

Hello self quarantined CLCs! If you could only consume one form of entertainment for the rest of your lives and you would physically be in able to hear or see the others what would you choose from the following TV/Movies, Books (text or audio), Videogames (table and board included) or Music/Podcasts (included podcasts here just to make it a little harder for Ben). Stay safe out there.

Hello Suriel and the couple of other fellas, What's the best potato chip game of all time? In my definition, a potato chip game is where you tell yourself "ok just one more level" but then find yourself playing for hours on end. In my opinion, X-Com is the ultimate potato chip game. The cycle of building, base management and battling flowing so well into each other creates a "I'll just have one more chip" mentality until the can see the bottom of the bag.

Dear Future of the Left, recently, Microsoft made Minecraft available for educational purposes. It has been discussed that Dreams could be used in a similar way if creators made games built for learning. If children use Dreams for schooling, would they be studying Creationism? Thanks! I'm looking forward to MinnTrax. - Cody from West Des Moines, Iowa.

Hello, cohorts! With the upcoming release of Persona 5 Royal and the Final Fantasy VII Remake, we are seeing two very different styles of JRPG. One of them modernizes an old battle system and ups production quality to ridiculous degrees (FF7). The other tweaks an older turn based style of combat while layering on social/life sim aspects and a meatier story to win over modern audiences (P5R). Over the last decade we’ve seen the JRPG genre become a lot more niche. My question is which of these styles do you think will prove more successful in pushing the genre forward and broadening it’s appeal to more general audiences (or will they both fail in this regard)?

Nick from Atlanta

Hello Cohorts! Imagine that you are a character in a shooter. What are your combat barks or ping responses for the following situations? You spot an enemy An enemy enters a piece of cover directly opposite or next to you You have slowly been walking into a wall because somebody left the controller upside down A teammate takes the item you called Dibs on You are low on ammo Enemies are attacking from behind You haven't moved for 30 seconds You just respawned You died Hope everything is going well! Hi MinnMaxers, 'Out of sight, out of mind' or 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder' - which one is it? I'll take the answer off the air, Paweł from Poland

It would be great if publishers would work out some kind of system where fans of physical games could buy from them directly and receive some kind of expiring digital version while they are unable to get their copy due to coronavirus. Could you ever see this happening setting aside technical limitations? Do you think we'll ever get to the point where physical comes bundled with a digital code like movies or music?

Josh Stevens

With the release of the newest Animal Crossing game, I have finally found my next comfort game. I am absolutely loving it and the good vibes it has brought into my life during these tumultuous times. What games are your comfort games or games that you can just zone out and play without using too much brainpower? I’m new to the MinnMax community and just became a Patreon supporter but I already appreciate the welcoming environment. Josh from Ohio

Hello MaxHoles! I live in Southern California. Our governor recently expanded San Francisco’s shelter-in-place edict statewide. I am a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous, and as such, meetings are an essential part of my ability to stay sober. I attend meetings three to four times a week. With meeting places (clubs and even churches) deemed “nonessential” and therefore closed, my local AA group needed a new way to meet ASAP. A group text thread and calls here and there were nice, but we still needed the structure of a formal group meeting. We started using the Zoom app, which is designed for group video conferences. It’s been a lifesaver, quite literally. Our meetings have resumed at their regularly scheduled days and times, as members join via computers or phone apps or even just calling in. It’s, quite literally, been a lifesaver. I am sure there are people (not only in AA but other support groups or even those merely separated from family and close friends) that are struggling to connect and suffer because of isolation. Zoom and apps like it are a great way to get connected. It’s depressing to think about the number of people that will die during this plague not because of the virus itself but because they cannot get the help they need from essential programs like AA. If anyone in the MinnMax community is cut off from their support groups, I urge you to look into organizing meetings via Zoom etc. It can save your life. On a video game related note, I have completely lost myself in the world of Days Gone. I find myself, perhaps morbidly, craving games and books and movies taking place within post-apocalyptic worlds. Days Gone is fantastic, and I recommend it. Anyone else find that they have had a craving for end-of-the-world stories lately? Thanks for keeping on, guys. I appreciate it. And remember, Heavy Metal Is the Law. Always. ~ Phil from Mentone, CA

Hello Friends, I am a manager at a grocery store, which has been a particularly stressful job for the last few weeks. Trying to keep our shelves stocked and trying to help our customers feel comfortable in our store at this difficult time has been physically and emotionally exhausting. MinnMax has been a consistent salvation for me. You all have helped me decompress and laugh after some challenging days. I truly appreciate what you are doing. I have also invented a game that I call “Did Duke Do That Dukie?” Duke Nukem has spoken some pretty horrendous 1 liners during his overlong existence, but can you tell from the following list which lines Duke has actually said? Your ass is grass, and I’ve got the weed whacker.-Duke Now you see me, now you’re dead.-Duke Take a hard look at the last a**hole you’ll ever see. Little pig, little pig let me in. Or I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll kick your ass in!-Duke Your privates are about to enter the public domain! I’m gonna butt punch the s*** out of you! (The ones Duke didn’t say, I made up. You’re welcome to use those whenever.)

G'day MinnMax! Hello from sunny South Australia. My question is this, will Half Life: Alyx be the most "spoiled" videogame of all time? We all want to know what happens in this thrilling prequel to one of gaming's most beloved tales but playing Half Life: Alyx is currently reliant on having a high end PC, a top of the line VR system and then purchasing the game. Will more people "spoil" themselves by watching a YouTube playthrough than ever before? Bonus question: what was the most spoiled game prior to this? It would have to be something popular but unobtainable, so my guess is PT. Thanks for the wonderful content during these trying times. Minnmax is the Animal Crossing of podcast networks, never ceasing to brighten my day! Alex from Adelaide, South Australia

Hey y’all, I am currently playing through Sonic Forces on PS4 since it was free with PlayStation Plus, and I gotta say, this game is garbage, but I’m still nearing the end of the game. By the time you see this I may have even beaten the final boss. But it made me wonder; What is the last game you played that was objectively complete trash, but you found some kind of enjoyment out of it and continued to push through regardless? Regards, Tyler P.S. Since posting my initial question I have beaten Sonic Forces.... that game is not good!

Fred Dinovo

Howdy fam, When was the last time you were sold a game based purely on the cover? We can include the back if that helps. I'm struggling to think, but it would have to be back in the PS2 generation before I started reading more about games and didn't need the covers as much. My best guess for mine is Shadow Hearts, angsty teen holding a knocked out love interest with a random castle in the background? Sign me up! Thanks!

Crayter

Hey there socially distanced CLC's! I've got a username opinion question for you: My name is Chris Fayter, and historically I've always gone with the username Darth Fayter, because c'mon, my last name is Fayter. More recently though I've been using the contraction of my first and last name Crayter. I've got mixed feelings on which one to stick with in the long run though. I Like Darth Fayter for obvious reasons, and its nice that its always available, but I don't know if I want to be known exclusively as "That guy named after Star Wars" even though I love Star Wars. Also it's more of a mouthful over a mic than just Crayter. Having a non-IP attached name like Crayter is nice, but it's also much less available and subsequently feels less unique. So what are your opinions/votes? Darth Fayter or Crayter?

AnotherRobot

Hello Fam, I have a bit of a conundrum. I was looking over all my subscription services today, and I began thinking about my subscriptions to PlayStation Plus and PS Now. Before you dismiss PS Now, as is the trend, the service works well for me. With more than 800 games on the service, it provides a lot of value even if I only use it sporadically. Since most, if not all, PS4 games are downloadable, sustained bandwidth isn't an issue. Regardless, my connection is more than adequate to stream. The thing is, both services are $59.99 a year. Looking over the 13 years of games I claimed from PlayStation Plus, they're not games I would necessarily play or replay. Losing any of them would have no lasting negative impact on me. Additionally, I don't utilize multiplayer, and all the free-to-play games don't require Plus anyway. What's left? Discounts and cloud saves? So I ask, is there any value in keeping PlayStation Plus? If you subscribe, why? Thanks for keeping me sane during my social isolation.

Tadatoo

Which game’s do you think will be delayed because of the coronavirus? I don’t think call of duty or cyberpunk will hit there deadlines. Also do you think any consoles would be delayed?

Hey Cohorts! So just a heads up, light spoilers for breath of the wild in this post. Nothing big, it’s just related to the horses in the game. So anyway, in my first playthrough of the game, I was on a high cliff looking out below when I saw a team of horses. I had seen many throughout the game, but this one was different. It was a family with a few younger smaller ponies in it along with their mother. Upon looking back at this moment I should have glided down and interacted with them. But I must’ve been busy searching for a shrine or something So I moved on and just chalked up that discovery to another small, cool thing that botw did. However, there are no ponies in botw (at least that I know of...) it was later, when someone told me about a gigantic horse that they found, that I realized this. They described the gigantic horse and it was the horse that I had seen earlier that I thought was the mother. I felt so dumb. I had totally glossed over a cool discovery in the game and didn’t even realize it. This isn’t integral to the story or anything but I was wondering if you guys had any similar stories. Any big reveals or discoveries in a game, big or small, that you just totally missed or didn’t realize at the time? Would love to hear your guys’ stories if you got any! Thanks for all you guys do! Love & Respect! -Beeks from Grand Rapids, MI

Hello to all! Including my rival JeffM, who spells their name incorrectly. Just finished the game Outer Wilds the other day, and that game is fascinating! The exploration, moment to moment discovery, and time based puzzles were so much fun. What was the last game you played that gave you a great feeling of discovery with out having the game hold your hand through the process? -Geoff aka Groffles

Heya y'all! Great new logo by the way! Quick question related to what I'm currently playing. For the past few days I've been playing Resident Evil 2 Remake and BotW. Both games are pretty good (the former far more for me), but they also both have game mechanics I'm not really fond of. For RE2 Remake, it's Mister X. He's supposed to be that big, scary threat, but it doesn't work on me so I just find him annoying like a little brother that doesn't want to go away when you want to be alone. For BotW, I'm really not a fan of durability, especially how low it is. It's a mechanic that I never can figure out why it's included since, if it's too low, it gets in the way of gameplay all the time and is a pain to deal with and, if it's too high, it ends up not mattering and feeling useless to be included in the game. All of that to ask: Which game mechanic do you dislike the most personally and why is that? Is it because it's included too often? Ruins the pace of the game? Gets in the way of the 'fun'? Thanks you for the show as always!

Hey duders! Hope everyone is staying healthy. With the release of Doom Eternal, we have gotten another great Original soundtrack by Mick Gordon. Listening to his music got me thinking how different it sounds compared to other games. My question today is what is your guys’ favourite oddball soundtracks from games that are unique to that game alone? Some of mine include Street Fighter Third Strike’s weird mix of hip hop, acid jazz and house music. Or Katamari Damacy’s theme with the fun vocal melodies. Thanks for the show and keep safe everyone! -Nick from Vancouver Island

Hey Minnmaxers! I just recently picked up Beat Saber for the PSVR - being stuck in the house and all. I know Kyle is a big fan so, these questions are for him (feel free to join in obviously). Favorite songs from the game? Also, other games similar to it in the sense that it is fun, but you can also get a bit of a workout? Thanks for helping me get through this - I really feel like we're in this together. Stay healthy!

Hello Computers and Cohorts of Loving Ben. Is there a place you know well that you ever got to visit in a game? What were your thoughts? Maybe I'm just jealous because no games take place here but whenever I play something set in a real world location I always wonder what people that lived there think. The closest I've ever been was visiting Florence years after I had played Assasin's Creed II. Left me wishing I had played it just before the trip. Anyhow thanks for all the content and congratulations to Jeff for deciding to use this time at home to sit down and finish RDR2.
