Which band do you feel had more cultural influence velvet underground or nirvana?

Thom Blackburn

Hi Matt Jason and Bianca! More specifically this is directed at Bianca; I would love to hear your reactions and thoughts on Animals as Leaders- The Woven Web. They're an instrumental 3 piece prog metal band from DC that have had a large impact on modern metal, likely including Mick Gordon, the composer of Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal's soundtracks. Link is below https://youtu.be/g68hQ4zJ3t0 Thanks, Thom from Redmond, WA

There is a playlist on Spotify called Steampunk which is so incredibly odd that it’s worth a listen if you have any sense of humor. My favorite of the list is “Automatonic Electronic Harmonics” which is has lovely harmonic singing combined with a western theme.

Hey, all! Currently jamming to "Cinnamon" by Hayley Williams I've really been digging her current solo releases, but this song has stuck out to me the most. The imagery in her current line of music videos has also been really striking. Thought it may be a fun song and video to dissect! - https://youtu.be/4x7jORhJntM

Hey Bianca! 1995 was a seminal year for Swedish death metal with the release of this and, a few months later, Dark Tranquillity's "The Gallery" and At the Gates' "Slaughter of the Soul". I'm sure I'm missing other stuff but those are definitely the big 3 that come to mind. While Orchid is hailed as a classic debut for a band that would go on to experience great success, do you consider it as "Influential" as the other two? Also, do you consider it to be a good representation of Opeth's sound today, or more a strong foundation that they've built upon over the past 25 years.

Hi Minntrax folks. What was the first piece of Music, you felt you discoverd completely on your own and loved. Not influenced by parents, siblings or friends. Mine was the Genesis live album from 1973. I was eleven years old and just randomly watched a documentary on TV. There was a 10 second snippet of one the songs that catched my ear. Went to the store bought it and fell in love with it. Still one my favourite Albums. Right now i am listing to St. Elmos Fire from Brian Eno the most. love the childlike carefree mood of the song. https://open.spotify.com/track/0UROPTHqU5C7TI1N8wOkIF

Hey there! What's one album that you enjoy every song on? I'm talking about the perfect album where you wouldn't skip a single time. Loved the first episode! Keep 'em coming.

Hello MinnTraxorz! I was wondering if anyone on the show was into the Metalcore genre. There are so many talented bands and insane albums that have released just in the past couple of years. A lot of the talent is coming from Australia, the UK and the US. Bands such as Architects, Invent Animate, Northlane, and The Devil Wears Prada just to name a few. I was just wondering if it was on your radar or if you would ever be interested in diving deep into one of these albums. P.S. If you want a more discussion generating question, what album gets the most intense emotional response out of you? Whether it be angst, sadness, joy or anything else. For me the album Holy Hell from Architects is always a gut punch. Thanks and keep up the awesome work!

Simple question: Do you think fade outs are cheesy?? Why or why not?

Hey minntrax! Loving the show so far. Just wanted to plug a band I've been listening to lately called The Hu, which blend traditional Mongolian folk music with Western rock and roll. They really started blowing up last year when I saw them in Minneapolis for their first concert in North America. They also recorded a song for Star Wars Fallen Order that plays in the beginning of the game in the arena. Here's a song they wrote about Mongolian icon Ghengis Khan, whom they view as Americans do the Founding Fathers https://open.spotify.com/track/4ZQP4RH4dhYVpwTqTqnYrE?si=Xlhi4Qa7SZGeRz8IQzgDvQ.

Hey MinnTrax! Since Opeth is part of the episode let me ask you a very loosely related question. I once went to a concert that featured Opeth but where Korn was the headliner (and that's why I went). All those years after that I suddenly realize that rap rock/nu metal bands such as Korn or Limp Bizkit are not really considered 'good' and liking them might be looked down on by the 'younger' generation :) What is your opinion on those genres, especially from the turn of the century? If the apocalypse doesn't happen, is it OK to go to a Korn concert this June? :) Have a great one, Paweł P.S. As a community recommendation let's go with Korn's "Let's Get This Party Started". Why not?

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JmzGMhE_ELs Hello MinnTrax! My question is what are some of your favorite one two punch song combos? Where a song and the next song on the album flow really well into one another and are meant too compliment each other? Great choice on Orchid BTW. As for a community song I'm going to rep one of my all time favorites with Weens - The Argus off there Qubec Album. Stay safe everyone.

One of my current favorite tracks is one that came out last year. It's this 70's psychedelic soul sounding track that just sounds "cool" and make you feel cool just by listening to it. Definitely a song that Tarantino would use to introduce the badass of his films. Keep up the good work! Hey Helgeson and Bianca, Where do each of you find limits on your musical tastes? For example, can a metal song go too hard or too loud and not be up your alley. Or if a hip hop song gets too mumbly, does that go on your "not for me" list. Or is it more a case by case basis? Thanks

Holden Hintz

Bianca, What bothers you the most about Dan’s taste in music? Any bands/musicians you just can’t stand that he loves?

Infinite

Good morrow Sonic Sailors! I have a specific artist or band that I instinctively listen to when I’m in a certain mood. Refused for getting hyped, Elliott Smith when I’m feeling blue, etc. What’re your favorite bands or artists that apply to your specific moods?

Andrew Burnes

I've listened to a lot of music, but this is the best song I've ever heard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEQENfRoBgw I remember one time Hanson talked some smack about Springsteen on the GI Show and it was easily the most infuriating thing I'd ever heard.

Kane Dietzel

I've always marveled at how well video game cutscenes look in contrast to the actual gameplay. With both system specs for next gen revealed, how much farther do the think we have until we essentially have playable cutscenes?

Tadatoo

C’mon by fun. and panic at the disco. A collab I am not sure how many people are familiar with this crossover between two of the most popular pop punk bands at the time. https://youtu.be/klHpznbGeYc

Jordan Brown

Hey Guys! Super pumped to see Future of the Left on here! A huge McLusky and Future of the Left fan! Opeth I've listened to a bit but they never stuck. Anyways, coming in with a recommendation for a band called Horseburner with their album The Thief. Some very heavy riffs and great drumming come together for a very powerful album.

Michael Newman

Hey all! Digging the podcast so far - my question would be how much music do you guys listen to that's not in your native language? When looking for new music to listen to I'd say my number one source is to just scroll through NPR's Tiny Desk series and give things a shot. A few years back they had a band called Los Hacheros that has become one of my favorite bands to listen to even though I don't speak any Spanish. If you wanted to check them out 'Bambulaye' is an awesome fast paced track (after the intro). Interested to hear your thoughts! -Newman

Drew Brett

What are the first 3 albums you bought for yourself (and of your own choice) and why? Do you still listen to them?

Carl Grenier

Heya! Looking forward to listen to a new podcast here and there! No questions this time, but I'll be submitting a classic song from a classic game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzwgGNPetE4 this is an orchestral version done by a local orchestra from Montreal. They're amazing and that version is pretty good! Would love to hear your thoughts on the song and that version.

Nino Cimino

Whoever added Billy Strings to the community Spotify playlist knows what's up. Love me some Billy MF Strings.

Ethan Horn

Song Rec: Anything by Milky Chance, the specific song would be "Oh Mama." They have such a unique sound that still feels rooted in a singular place they keep revolving around.

Also! Question for the cast - > When you REALLY want to enjoy an album, what is your go-to method? Spotify and AirPods? Vinyl? Buy it digitally, burn it to a CD and pop that in a walkman? What's your method?
