Sincerly, Eric

Hey MinnMax friends! This past week Nintendo allowed a trial period of playing Disgaea 5: Complete in entirety for a limited time. Not a demo, but the full game. Meaning you could either rush and attempt to beat it. Or play a little bit and see if it is for you or not. Is this the first example of a Company/Game being available in this capacity? Recently Demos have become available in a couple of ways, but is this the best course or tactic for it? I for one enjoyed my limited time with it and would not have touched a Disgaea game if not for this. But, whether or not I buy the game. I can say I enjoyed it and would be more likely to follow the series in the future. Did any of you try it? If so, what are your thoughts? (I will say the soundtrack of the game is cussing phenomenal.)

Mike Lynch

Heya Ben and The CLC's. I've never played a second of EVE Online but I read any article I find about and love the player's dedication to it. Is there a game you've similarly never played, but have admiration for how unique it is?

Haley MacLean

Hi MinnMax crew! (and extra hi to Leo!) First off love the show, I catch every episode and always enjoy listening them while I walk my dog everyday. Hope you’re all doing well. So I’m in my last year of law school and next semester I am taking three paper courses (yikes) and I am looking for interesting topics in the games industry to cover from legal perspective. Collectively as a group you guys have talked to hundreds upon hundreds of game developers, so with that awesome foundational knowledge of insider perspectives, I would love to pick your brains: what is the most prelevant legal issue in the games industry today? Is it something the public might be more aware of, like crunch culture? Or something more behind the scenes that’s looming and might really affect where the industry is going in the next few decades? Thanks so much guys! Cheers, Haley

Jordan Brown

Hey MinnMaxers, I've been finding it difficult to play new games recently. Any time I have time to sit down for a long period of time I just want to play games I've already beat over again. Recently I bought Luigi's Mansion 3 and Vermintide 2 to play with friends but I've just been replaying FFIX on my Switch instead which I've beat numerous times. Have you guys ever had issues finding the motivation to play newer games? What game broke the trend if you have? Thanks guys! Jordan from Morgantown WV

Victor Pham

What game genres still feel underserved in the current gaming landscape? For me it's stylish action games like DMC5; we maybe get one or two a year (if that) but we hardly see any games of that nature, especially in the indie space.

Christian Jimenez

Why aren't there more video game documentaries? Been watching the Hades series from NoClip and seeing the SuperGiant team makes me appreciate their games even more. Helps also put names to the credits like Jen Zee the artist and learn more about them. Since you come from GameInformer and had insider access to different game studios why is this not a more popular thing. Is it companies who do not want to show what they are working on, afraid of people sharing too much, bad company culture, etc. Thanks.

Tactical Dreamer

Hello, Do y'all prefer the lower latency of a wired mouse and keyboard or the convenience of wireless? Thanks, Tactical Dreamer

Matthew Wogksch

Hello Ben and the CLCs I love your deep dives and am wondering if timed exclusives will impact those going forward. Will you hold off on a game because it’s not available to everyone, or will you take advantage of the momentum a new game generates? Obviously, true console exclusives are different, and it is known that not everyone can participate up front. However, I feel timed exclusivity is a different issue. Thanks Matthew Wogksch

Chris Logan

Hey Ben and the 'horts, streaming is the new normal for TV shows, that's clear, but what is still up in the air is how the episodes are released: either all at once, or once a week. Personally I prefer weekly, as this makes it easier to discuss with friends and the internet at large. But the moderate backlash to the new season of The Boys leads me to believe I may be in the minority. What is the official MinnMax stance on this issue?

BEEFCAKE

Hey MinnMax peoples! I have a game for you!... next week. If I remember to write it. Anyway, simple question. What is the first video game you think of when you think of your 9-year-selves? For some reason I think of Driver 2 and ocarina of time simultaneously, cause I went to my friends house and he refused to play ocarina because he was obsessed with driver

Chris Lopez

Hello Ben and the Cohorts! As the console generations continue and with our purchases moving forward with us more and more how do you think this will affect people’s loyalty to a specific company? If you own a bunch of PS4 games that carry over to PS5 is it likely that you would switch over to Xbox or vice versa? Do you think there is ever a point where a person is locked in and just won’t ever switch over? Thanks!

TJ Starman

Hey Benihana and the Minneapolis Maximus! Fun question for you all: what video game protagonists would you most like to see swap games to create a more enjoyable experience? Would you exchange similar characters like Doomslayer and Masterchief? Or maybe go more off the rails with a swap like Mario and Leon Kennedy? Hope you’re all well! TJ

Cade Mead

OG FarmVille has been shut down. Flash games are (officially) unsupported at the end of the year. Have any of you loved a game that has gone defunct? Will we ever see a change in the law to allow for larger-scale preservation of media, or is it just a necessary reality with ownership/copyright?

Steven Vella

Hi! What software features would you like Sony and Microsoft to focus on next gen, and what quality of life improvements would you like to see in both ecosystems? I am personally hoping for bluetooth audio support on the PS5. Right now with the PS4 you have to use a usb headset. Thanks! Steven 🇲🇹

Fred Dinovo

Howdy! What's the dumbest thing you've learned from a TV show/other media? It doesn't have to be educational. For example: As a kid I started washing my neck more after watching the Treehouse of Horror episode of Simpsons when Mr Burns is a vampire and requests the Simpsons all keep their necks clean. I realized I never washed my neck and thought maybe I should. It's okay to laugh, Fred

Dru Marcus

Greetings MinnMax Team, Hope you are all having an A-1 week so far! New Game Plus modes are often marketed as a back of the box feature, but I find it hard enough to finish one game’s story let alone start it all over again. Are there any games where New Game Plus drastically changes the experience and is worth the extra time? The only NG+ I have ever completed was God of War. Are there any you would recommend? Shouts out to you all on the great work. Grateful for everyone! Take care, Casey

Steve J

More of a request... but is it possible to get Mary Kish as a regular guest on the MinnMax Show? She was a bright ray of sunshine last week :)

Matt McKenna

Hey Minn Maxers with the Halloween season starting up what is one spooky thing you’re planning on doing? I know COVID has pretty much taken haunted houses out of the equation but is there a game/movie/show you all are going to dive in to to get in the spirit? I’ll be watching the new season of Hill House along with playing Man of Medan sometime in October.

John Utke

Hello all, do you have any dream game mashups? For example, I've always wanted a game with the weapon leveling and city systems from Dark Cloud, mashed up with the collecting aspect of Pokemon/Digimon. I'm working on that as a side gig so we'll soon see if it's more like PB&J or Nuts & Gum. I also think Final Fantasy Tactics combined with the battle system from Legend of Legaia would be dope. What about ya'll, any dream mashups?

Joe Kafchinski

Since the introduction of Game Pass, we've been hearing about the so-called Netflix of video games, almost always with a positive or neutral connotation. As someone who's been a Netflix subscriber from Day 1 (I even still get DVDs!) I'm not so sure we should want a Netflix of games. I've watched it go from "one stop shop" to "great original content" to "hope you don't get attached to anything, because if our opaque algorithm says that show you love is too expensive, we will unceremoniously cancel it after two seasons." It feels like it's a few awards worthy options surrounded by leftover dregs that would've been shitcanned a few years ago, to the point that I don't even bother launching the app until something like The Witcher pokes through the zeitgeist. And the long term health of an industry dependent on streaming content is a whole issue in and of itself. The only people in the music industry satisfied with the Spotify model is Spotify. Am I crazy to think that the Netflix of Games isn't something we should be unconditionally striving for?

Jonathan Dinh

Hey Ben and the CLC's Have you guys heard/seen the trailer for Black Myth: Wukong? I don't remember if this was discussed on the show beforehand. Anyways it was a game that was revealed in late August with a surprise trailer drop. It is far from release but my question is this: With the success of Ghost of Tsushima and the positive reception this game has gotten from the internet, could we see a resurgence of triple AAA games using non-Western mythology/cultures as the backdrops? I would love more games like Jade Empire and Ghost of Tsushima being made.

James Smith

Hey Len and the Showhorts, You know those orchestra conductors? The guys who stand in front of the orchestra waving their arms around like they're directing aircrafts? Does anyone actually know why they do that? I bet it's some kind of elaborate joke they're playing on us all. If you watch the God of War E3 2017 performance you can see Bear McCreary laughing at us as he does it! I'm willing to bet none of you know why they do it.

Grizzled Gaming

Hey gang! We need the Minnmax definitive top-five non-domesticated animal ranking. Remember: As long as it's not tame, it's all fair game!

Jake Z

Hey guys, Are battle royale games just multiplayer rogue-likes? In both you start a run with almost nothing and power up with a random assortment of equipment as you fight through a gauntlet of increasingly difficult enemies to hopefully become the winner, and then rinse and repeat.

Mack Dack

Hey All! When working for Game Informer did you ever visit a studio that seemed to have a bad “feel”? A lot of talk recently has been about crunch and working conditions for developers and I was curious if you ever saw the affects of this first hand while visiting a studio. You don’t need to put a specific developer on blast, I’m just curious how much was hidden/exposed to press.

Sean Burke

Jurassic Park! Let's assume for a second this becomes a reality. Knowing how every one of the movies end up points to it being a bad idea... but would you still want to go? Think it would still be super popular even with chance of catastrophic results?

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Junior Cheeseburgers, Who is your favorite character to originate from a "hero shooter/brawler"? i.e. Overwatch, R6 Siege, DOTA, LoL. and follow-up, which is most widely recognized? Tracer?

The Sleepy MailMan

Hey, MinnMaxers! With the next generation approaching, I can’t help but notice how small a terabyte for the SSD really is. That’s maybe enough room for 6 or 7 games. Considering that this gen took up 12 terabytes of space for me personally, is the era of big digital game collections over? What’s something that will always be on your SSD this upcoming gen?

Jaketrix

Hey Ben Solo and the MinnMaxium Falcon Crew, We are nearing the spooky season! What game or games have halted your progression due to it becoming too scary or unnerving to play? Back in the 90s, I didn't finish Shadows of the Empire for almost a year because the sewer level creeped me out! Hearing the roars of the dianoga sent chills down my spine and seeing the polygonal mass with thrashing tentacles was too much for me. Eventually, my friend helped navigate that level with me and I was finally able to start progressing through the game again! Thanks for all that you do and be safe! Jake Illinois

Clifford Shoemaker

While we wait for the first "Next Gen" game to usher in the consoles, I'm surprised with how little conversation there is around the new Oculus Quest 2 headset, its very approachable price point of 299 and how it really can deliver a "Next Gen" experience unlike anything we currently or will have this year. If we have Xbox's and PS4s already to play the games this November, can Facebook finally make VR gaming mainstream?

Matt Sayer

Hey Ben and the Minnmax-amillions, With Xbox emphasising backwards compatibility going into next-gen and the preponderance of remakes and remasters we've had in recent years, do you see there being more discourse around older games, rather than just the latest and greatest titles? Video games have historically focused more on the new hotness than their history, quite unlike the broader conversations we see with movies, TV shows, books and other entertainment media. But with the maturing of game design and the homogenisation of technical aspects like 3D navigation, playing and discussing older games feels more relevant than ever. The Deepest Dive is a perfect example of that with SM64 and Chrono Trigger. Thanks for keeping all of us entertained in these tough times! Matt Sayer Melbourne, Australia

Doreen Ford

I'm still playing Hades even after clearing it (no spoilers!) and I still find it fun to play. What are the essential parts that make a game fun to come back to, long after it is beaten? Obviously this is a broad question and can vary quite a lot by genre, but I'm curious if there are any overlapping answers.

PhoenixRouge

Hey Ben and the MinnMaxers! Quick and weird question: which video game character would you go gay for?

Christopher Reed

Hades rules because it rewards you for your efforts. As far as games go, it's the reliable pronoun of choice next door that you KNOW you should be with. Other games enjoy making you suffer, but you can't escape because you are attached for other reasons (HOT BOD graphics, SMART story, etc..). What is a game that revels in your pain that you still love and forgive even though it treats you bad, boo?

Nick from Atlanta

Hello Cohorts! With the news that CD Projekt Red is reneging on its vow to avoid crunch, I would love to hear your individual thoughts about the situation and ethical consumption. For me personally, I've been pushed more and more towards not wanting to buy the game. Not only because of the crunch, but also other reasons like the hyper-stereotyping of POC in the gangs of Night City. Thanks, Nick from Atlanta

The Diddler

Do you think Genshin Impact will have an impact on the Avengers player base? Unless Avengers has a major update that fixes mission structure, I think I already jumped ship

Brandon Milligan

Recently, a friend of mine watched a show and absolutely hated it. But the more he described why he hated it, he was giving me reasons as to why I would really enjoy it. Are there any games, movies, shows or whatever that you picked up because someone you know didn't like it?

Edgar Vazquez

Hey LoveMaxers, You have inevitably played as, and with, a LOT of video game characters. But, would you ever admit to ever... like-liking a character? A character that you keep thinking about after you finish a session or completed the game? The more recent the better. I have to admit that Kasumi from Persona 5 Royal is hitting that tone at the moment. After putting 250+ hours into it and getting the platinum, I would go through it again just for Kasumi. Play *clap* Persona *clap* 5 *clap* Royal *clap*!

AnAttackCorgi

Hello MinnMax Maestros and Maestras! Who is the most Sus on the panel? Coulda sworn I saw Leo Vent. Also, a latent ability awakens within you, allowing you to resurrect any dead developer or teleport any living developer to play couch coop with you for. As long as your hands touch the controller or system of your choice, and you play couch coop, they stay with you. Which game do play and who with? Cheers, AnAttackCorgi.

Sean Mason

Hey Min Maxers, With Halloween just over a month away, I started to reminisce on some of my childhood costumes. Looking back, I noticed many of them were video game themed. A few characters I dressed up as were Luigi (my best friend went as Mario), Link, and Ratchet. Were any of your Halloween costumes inspired by video games? If so, what were they? Best, Sean Mason

Dylan Drazek

I’m gonna have to ask the age-old question that always comes around this time of year. Pumpkin or no pumpkin?

MickManga

Among Us came out a few years ago, so it does give hope for any series that given the right chance they can become a large hit and get that coveted second chance . So my question what is a game from a few years ago, you hope finds a huge audience now?

Jim Blubello

I played spellbreak last week and thought to myself "why hasn't there been an RPG with these basic mechanics." Simply casting elemental spells and combining them sounds like a great premise for an RPG to me. So my question is, have you ever played a game in one genre and thought it would be a great premise for a different genre?

Raymond shafer

Am I the only one worried about Xbox buying Bethesda for the reason to me that is obvious. They can’t manage studios to save there life. Halo off track , fable studio gone, so many cancelled games. Don’t ruin doom!

Joshua Caleb

Anyone else find it weird we started the year playing a chill relaxing game about making friends with animals & building a nice Island resort, to a game about scrambling over faceless strangers and deadly booby traps in order to get points so that we can look slightly goofier & different from everyone else, to now a game about lying, backstabbing and gaslighting our friends in order to kill them in the cold vacuum of space. It's like gaming has been a roller coaster of emotions just like the rest of the year....

Geoff Enright

Hello Maxers, Heres to you, your family and friends good health! I hope all is well with everyone, including my nemesis JeffM. Here's a game for you. Obviously the only way to truly know how objectively great anything can be is by comparing it with statistics. And the infallible Wikipedia is great for that! So, you have to guess what are the top 10 best Marvel Movies with a completely arbitrary metric - the last 60 days of pageviews for the Wikipedia page being searched. The date is simply when I do the search because the world centers around me and in this case was 09/29/20. Hey MinnMaxers This one might be a bit depressing but I’ll ask anyway. What’s one thing you thought you’d never grow out of when you were younger. Mine is anime, I used to love watching all kinds of anime. Nowadays I have very little interest in them even if I hear how great some are. Ps I’m in my thirties for those wondering.

Donnie

Hey friends, I don’t know if you consider this appropriate for your channel, but would you be willing to take a moment to express how important voting is, especially this year? You have a following that respects you and there may be some who still need that push to know their vote is worth something. Thanks!

Spencer Botine

Hey friends, I recently picked up the remastered (Warmastered, ugh) Darksiders for 5 bucks and have been pleasantly surprised. The gameplay is basically a combination of The Legend of Zelda and God of War, two of my favorites. This got me thinking - what combination of any two game franchises/styles tickles your fancy the most? Have you played or heard of a title that matches this holy concoction? Keep on minnmaxing and hope you’re all healthy.

LaRay M. Hare

Hey MinnMax, This is LaRay M. Hare or BluMayhem on the Discord. I have a question about emulation or backwards compatibility in general. There’s always talk about the legal side of things, but I’ve never seen any writings or journalism on it. What makes a new console legally distinct from an old one, in a way that would prevent games from being played on them? Asking specifically about legal issues, not technical ones. Thank you!
