Missed joke (segue?) opportunity. At the end of last week's podcast you were talking about how no one wins on the internet just before announcing who won question of the week. You should have said no one wins on the internet unless they are (winner's name) who just won the Disco Elysium vinyl soundtrack.

Hey Minnmaxers, If you could guarantee that your most anticipated game of year either contains no content that you don't like/ want but maybe doesn't hit the highs you hoped or absolutely nails the stuff you really wanted but also has bits which are only ok or even bad which would you pick?

Julius Januškevičius

Hi! A while back in one of the podcasts Ben mentioned a band called Modest Mouse. I've never heard of them until then so I had to look them up. And I'm so glad I did! I've been listening to them quite regularly since then. And I've managed to see them live this Sunday, which will be a memory for the rest of my life. Have you ever discovered something thanks to a podcast that otherwise you wouldn't have? Thanks! - Julius

Hey Minnmaxesotans, have you ever kept playing a game beyond the point where you were having fun because you didn't want your time with it to end? After getting all 880 moons in Mario Odyssey, I grinded coins so that I could buy every costume as well as enough moons to go up to 999 total. It was not fun but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks

Ben, great job on the interview with Tasha Sounart! Tasha being a creative director in the theme parks group at Pixar led me to reminisce on some of my own theme park memories, do any of the cohorts have any noteworthy theme park memories they would care to share? My favorite memory would have to be in ninth-grade band class when we got to take a trip to Disneyland in Anaheim during which we got to go to a "backstage" recording studio and record some pieces from Frozen and Tangled.

Hey Kyle and the Benhorts, My daughter is almost 4 years old and has shown an interest in playing video games. About a month ago, we tried playing Rush: A DisneyPixar Adventure (I guess this was originally an Xbox 360 Kinect game, but we were just playing with a controller). Of course, she struggled navigating her character in a 3D space (although she did love running around the Toy Story World). Since she struggled so much with it, I put off encouraging another video game night figuring she needed to be a little older. However, My Friend Peppa Pig just came to GamePass and over the weekend and she was eager to try it. It was PERFECT for her. All she had to do was move left or right and press the A button over an object when it prompted her to interact with it. She loved it and is looking forward to our next game night together. My question to Kyle/his daughter & Ben/his nephews is: how old was your daughter (nephews) when she (they) started to play video games? What was their first game? How old were they when they were first able to navigate a 3D space in games? Thanks!

Cody U.

Happy 1,000 Days of MinnMax!

Hey MinnMax crew, I was reading Kyle’s recent interview with the creator of Poinpy and really enjoyed it. When asked whether Poinpy is the “bad guy” in the game, the developer simply responded that the player is the one controlling the game. Do you feel this a fair answer for games that don’t necessarily have total player agency? I’ve seen similar responses by developers for games like Spec Ops: The Line and Last of Us Part II but I’m not sure it’s fair to place blame on the player when gameplay mechanics or the overall games story forces the player into situations that are inherently bad to progress. What say you? Who actually holds the blame?

My daughter and I love chips and salsa. But we don’t like chunky salsa. In fact, we’ll put it in a blender before eating it…are we okay? Should we see someone?

Heya MinnMaxers, Do you make a distinction between your "favorite" game and the "best" game in a franchise ? For example, I would argue that Super Mario Odyssey is objectively the best 3D Mario game, but my favorite is Super Mario 64. Similarly, Breath of the Wild might be the best Zelda game, but Ocarina of Time is my favorite. Usually, for me, it comes down to which game I may have fonder memories of, or enjoyed playing more, is my favorite, but I can recognize that the formula or mechanics may work better in the "best" one.

Howdy M&Ms When I was young there was a strength minigame in Starfox Adventures that I could not complete. It was so hard I brought my Gamecube to a family party and had everyone try it to no avail. Now when I play it…..cakewalk why could no one in my 2003 family press the A button faster than the Dinosaur? Do you have any games that were impossible when you were young thats are a breeze now?

LevelWiley

Hey minnmaxx crew With the way Stray is seemingly blowing up, what other animal games could you see being greenlit? What is your ideal animal game? Best, Wiley

Hey MinnMax show, Just a comment here, that song you played at the end of the “Game Release Calendar Duel” episode slapped. Very Cake inspired sound. I loved it. But my dog hated it for some reason.

Hello,| looking for more of an opinion but I understand that twitter can be used for getting quick news or even supporting my favorite patreon. Now I dont have twitter (one of the few I assume), and I want to try to support in different ways. Is it worth signing up? I only have facebook as a social platform and I already doom scroll there (not too much) but maybe worth opening up on another platform. Love the content and keep up the great work.

Hello Ben and crew, They say cats have 9 lives. Do you think you could make it through the rest of the year in gaming with only 9 lives? You don't have to finish any of the games you play but if you run out of lives you can't play any more games for the rest of the year. Let's say you lose 1 life when: you get a Game Over screen, the game forces you to reload a previous checkpoint, or when you lose two games in a row in multiplayer. If you can't make it on 9 lives, how many do you think you'd need to get you through the year?

BearCommando

Hey MinnMaxers, Do you fall victim to hoarding all your best weapons/ammo til the end of the game because you didn’t want to waste it early on? I recently started halo infinite and decided to try a new play style: I use whatever weapon I find immediately on whatever enemy crosses my path. It’s really been the most fun I’ve had in a long time. I get little nuggets of power fantasy as I use big rockets on little grunts, and I get unique challenges against tough elites when I only have a pistol with 3 bullets. Best of all I no longer have to be anxious about deciding whether or not to “waste” my ammo and I’m getting to appreciate the weapon designs the developers worked so hard on by using them in a lot more variety of circumstances. I’m going to try this play style when BotW2 comes out as well! No more stressing about holding onto a weapon so it doesn’t break!

Hey MM, Do any of yall enjoy playing or watching through a series in reverse order or do you always go chronological from time of release? If possible, I always prefer to work my way backwards from latest release to oldest. So, if I want to go through Quentin Tarantino's filmography, I'll start with 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' and go backwards from there. If I discover a new band I like, I'll go through their discography from their latest album to their debut. My entry point into 3D Mario was Super Mario Odyssey and from there I worked my way backwards playing 3D World, then Galaxy, then Sunshine, and finally 64. Playing these games in reverse gave me an appreciation for how well the older games aged while being weirdly nostalgic for Odyssey since it was my first one. I feel like playing in this order helps ease me into the series with modern QoL elements and graphics. This also makes certain easter eggs or callbacks have a weird reverse effect where the moment I get to experience the Mushroom Kingdom in 64 feels like a fully realized version of the one in Odyssey that I can appreciate more. Is this weird, or does anyone else enjoy doing this? (of course, I don't do this with story heavy games, TV show seasons, or film sequels). #PortMarioGalaxy2

Gooood evening MinnMax *Bob Buel impression* So, here’s something I was thinking about. In games, jungle levels often have really joyful, upbeat music accompanying them, as if to say jungles are super fun places to be. Yet, I have to imagine being stranded in a jungle in real life would be… the definition of a nightmare. I guess my question is, what other real word biomes/places are not realistically represented by their in-game music? Is jungle the worst offender? As a bonus here is the exact song I was listening to when I thought of this question. It was playing in the background of a jungle-themed level in Fall Guys. https://youtu.be/2vMgiIm35cs

MickManga

It's a silly question. What was the last game that made you scream and point with excitement at the screen? For myself Kirby And The Forgotten Land of all things had me so hyped at the end. I was cheering like it was a sporting event. Before that, the last time was Asura's Wrath way back on the Xbox 360.

Stray just so happened to come out on my birthday, so I took the leap and bought it. I loved playing it and it was such a good gift to myself. Does anyone have any good memories/stories about playing video games on your birthday? Thanks y’all!!

Vilis

What's up BeKyLeJo! This New Resident Evil show is a real roller coaster of awful teen angst, cool CG monsters, and Lance Reddick absolutely killing it (and Umbrella employees) as Wesker. Have any of y'all watched it yet? Got any hot takes? Btw, the first episode is a train wreck until the giant caterpillar shows up, so if you haven't watched past that... get past that. The finale is very cool.

Kyle Silva

That Splatoon 3 Edition Switch OLED has been in my mind since it was announced. What special edition consoles in the past have you loved, bought or wish you had bought?

Erin T.

Hey crew! The interview with Tasha Sounart got me thinking about the good old days of 6/10 licensed games. Where’s our Coco 3D platformer, or John Wick 3rd person shooter? What killed licensed video games like movie tie-ins? Poor critical reception? Mobile and free to play games like Roblox?

The_Smak

Hey MinnMax, so many games these days are released in a broken state with performance issues or major bugs. Do you think companies should be required to place a disclaimer on the box or in the item description regarding these issues until they are fixed? Do you think this would deter companies from pushing release dates on games that aren't finished out the gate?

Bob Buel

Howdy gang. Ok if you had to bet, do you think Sony will ever release a mainline home console named anything other than PlayStation in the next 20 years? Or will they just continue with PS6, PS7, etc.

Shimmy Neutron

Any thoughts on the Webb telescope pictures? Ngl I cried alil. It's one thing to know what's out there in theory or concept art but to see the real thing. Truly awe inspiring. When you imagine what's out there what media does your mind imagine? I absolutely believe there's a Mass Effect style galactic community out there that we're too lame to access at the moment. Also one mistakes you hope humanity doesn't make when we go to space?

Spencer

Heya, what are your thoughts on people being upset that their game of the year isn't on other people's list at all, or that a particular game only seemed to have a short period in the spotlight? It's something i have observed for a while now and saw more of it on the mid-year top ten. There are too many games worth playing that cater to different tastes to expect everyone to appreciate the same games sufficiently. I don't have much time to play and bought my first release of the year a few weeks ago, not for lack of interest in everything that has come out so far. Even having a top n games seems like a privilege to me.

Catpurrnicus

Hey crew, in the near future science finds a way for you to customize your dreams (Ben feel free to do your Johnny Carson impression here "did you hear about this"). But unfortunately they behave like regular dreams, so for me I don't really remember most dreams after I wake. Not sure about you personally. What are you putting on when you sleep; Podcast, video game, TV show, movie, favorite family memory, something educational?

PhillyYeetSteak

Hello crew! Which is officially cooler: motorcycles or helicopters?

Ronn

Hello folks! You all must be familiar with the YouTube show Hot Ones by now with their hot sauce and interviews. Would any of you ever consider going on that show to face the wings of death and if yes how could the community make that happen? Should we tweet everyday at the show and Sean Evans until it happens? If you wouldn't want to go on the show I don't blame you because Da Bomb sucks and is kinda not worth it. Thanks for all y'all do! Ronn

Tokyo Game Life

Hi MinnMax, Why do people still remember Boom Blox? Is it solely because of the Spielberg connection? Is it the funny name? Or maybe that it was a notable third party title on the Wii? Or is the game is really just that good? Thank you.

Noah Allison

Which two gaming franchises, when making a Venn diagram of their fan bases, would come closest to forming a circle?

McCracKenway

Howdy MinnCats! I just wanted to weigh in on predicting punchlines with an instance when it's always OK! My family does christmas crackers every year and they have really pun heavy jokes inside. We are ALWAYS trying to guess the punch line specifically to predict how bad the pun will be. I was going to give you one example, but why not make it a game?! I'll give you christmas cracker jokes and you try to guess the punchlines! 1. What do you get when you cross a snowman with a vampire? 2. What do you get when you cross Santa with a duck? 3. Who is Santa's favorite singer? 4. Why are Pirates great? 5. What do frogs wear on their feet? 6. What do you call a reindeer who can't see? 1. Frostbite! 2. A Christmas Quacker! 3. Elf-is Presley 4. They just ARRRRRRRRRR 5. Open-Toad Sandals 6. No-eye deer

Luca Alberti

Hey there MinnMax, I was surprised recently to see a positive reception to the Exoprimal Beta, it truly seems Capcom can't make any mistakes right now both reception and sales-wise which leads me to the question: when do we start seeing older IPs getting rebooted? Where's the fabled MegaMan Legends 3? How soon can we expect a new Viewtiful Joe? Will Dino Crisis finally make it's return?

Brian Ventura

Hi MinnMax 😃 Having listened to the previous MinnMax Show, I'm reminded how much I love the hype and anticipation of upcoming games! However, after the pandemic began, I've come to temper my expectations. Fair or unfair, I assume the games industry is still recovering from the inherent complications of these past few years. It feels like we haven't had a "big year" in gaming for a while. That said, I'm probably focusing too heavily on the AAA landscape, and not giving enough credit to all of the amazing games I've played lately. My question is, has the pandemic changed your expectations of the industry?

WadeLee

Hey there CLC's, hope you're having a great week so far! This year I will be attending Gen Con in Indianapolis, it's the first convention I've ever been to! It's a fun tabletop/ boardgames focused convention that I have been wanting to go to for years. My main focus will be playing some competitive Keyforge gameplay and trying out new and upcoming board games. So my question for the panel is Do you have any advice for navigating a convention like this or things I should look outbfor specifically? Also, have you ever been to a board game convention and do you have a fun story from it? Thanks 😊

Hootz

Hi guys! With digital games as popular as they are, what does a dedicated video game store need to do to be successful? What would you guys like to see at a brick and mortar store? I hate shopping at general retailers like Target or even Best Buy, where no one knows anything about video games, but it feels like that's where we're headed. Thanks for all the great content!

Sjors van Berkel

Hi Ben and friends! I’m always dramatically slower (around 1,5 times to 2 times) than whatever How Long To Beat tells me it should take to finish a game. How do you usually compare?

Zane Dukes

Would you rather be hit by a pt cruiser or drive a pt cruiser

Josh Elliot

Hey MinnMax!! First time long time. Years ago, I was caught up in the Breathe of the Wild hype train and bought a Nintendo Switch. Long story short, I disliked BOTW and I feel like it tainted my opinion of my Switch. When I want to play a game at the end of the day, I hop on my PlayStation and never consider booting up my Switch. I want to change that and use my Switch more so I don't feel like I wasted my money. My question is, how do I fall in love with the Switch all these years later?

catzzznite

hey minnmax! gave multiversus a try and it’s actually pretty cool! it got me thinking, with game design being iterative, why do people have such an aversion to “clones” of beloved series? multiversus mixes up the formula just enough to be fresh and honestly feels like a step forward in platform brawlers. out with the old, in with the new!

Cyrus

Hey MinnMax! Last year we had Kena, this year it's Stray. Two first projects of a studio that look awesome and get great reviews. That made me think: Which is the best first game of a studio ever?

Dpad Experience

Hi Minn Maxxers, I'm a high school teacher and I have been approved to teach a 15-week elective on "The History of Video Games". It will be an hour each class, it will be once a week, and the course will run twice a year. My question is, what should I teach?!? My current thoughts are discussing the generations, influential people, and important moments. I'm thinking about including "Console Wars" to read as well. What do you think? What would you teach and how should I go about it? I've got all summer to develop my curriculum, and if you can help me out, I promise to add all of your names at the beginning of each lesson as experts. Rick from Brooklyn

Dustin Davis

Hey cohorts, any favorite graphic novels or newspaper comics? If you like Calvin and Hobbes, a lesser known but but similar one is Cul-de-Sac. Somewhat neurotic but funny.

General Guy

Hey MinnesotaMaxers, On the heels of Stray being perhaps the first true “cat simulator”, are there any “animal simulators” you would personally like to see that haven’t been made yet?

Jeorin

Greetings MinnMax crew, This question is primarily for Leo, though anyone else with experience is welcome to add their thoughts. How do you get past the hurdle of motivating yourself to engage with VR? I've had mine for almost half a year now and can't seem to get into using it because of the hassle of setting everything up properly.

johnny vela

Hey MinnMaxers, In a lot of games, movies and books there is a date set in the future such as 2099 or 2047 do you think that we will ever reach a time of the future with flying cars and holographic technology? What do you think might actually be in that future and how would gaming change?

Jennifer Clifford

Howdy MinnMaxians, dig deep into the shadows of your memory and recount the last (or most memorable) boss fight you encountered where: you spent time after time bashing your head (and controller?) against a wall and finally deciding to come back to it later and next session you beat it in 5 tries or fewer. Bonus points if it was first try. Mine was less fight, but the Sandworm escape from Ori II, I remember having to turn my headset volume up loud and feel the music timings match with button inputs. When I hear that song come on, I still feel a mix of anxiety and victory.

Royal Mudkip

Goodmorning everyone!:) With the approach of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 just days away, I have my order secured for a physical copy and hope to play it as soon I get home from work! Day 1 game for me as soon as it was announced. What are everyone's day one ,must haves for the rest of the year and just series in general? Peace! <(•.• )>
