Great Bonus Pod as always! Haley, that very patent-friendly judge in Texas you mentioned is Alan Albright. He is the only district judge in the Waco division of the Western District of Texas — there are a couple of other magistrate judges, but he’s the only district judge there. So if you file a patent lawsuit in that division, you’re guaranteed to have his court look it over. At one point around 2021 or so, 25% of all patent law in the U.S. was being filed in his court, according to Law360! And he likes to keep it there. Last I checked, Albright very infrequently grants motions to transfer such cases away from his jurisdiction. It attracted the ire of the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, which has criticized him in rulings and also has at least once reversed one of his denials of a motion to transfer. (In case anyone reading this is unaware, Federal Circuit is an appeals court for federal courts in the U.S., similar to the 1st through 11th Circuits and the D.C. Circuit. But instead of being in charge of appeals from federal lawsuits based on what region of the U.S. they are being appealed from, like those numbered ones are, the Federal Circuit handles certain only certain types of lawsuits, including trademark and patent law.) Also there are two U.S. Senators, one blue one red, who wrote a letter to Chief Justice John Roberts (head of the Supreme Court for anyone unaware) to look into potential abuse of the system, to keep one judge from deciding so much of patent litigation. Roberts all but named Albright in 2021’s year-end report in a section where he discussed patent law and venue selection specifically, but I’m not sure if any more came of that. I work for a legal news site and I used to be the reporter who would write short summaries of the lawsuits that got filed in the Western District of Texas, from like 2018 until 2022. I would see SO MANY of those patent complaints, and I gotta admit, they were not my favorite to read sift through! lol. I wonder if he has chilled out since then, after taking some heat over it. Anyway if you wanna hear more, I’d be glad to DM you about it sometime!

Really enjoyed the pod! With these game series that are multiple entries long (I'm a huge fan of the Trails series), I would argue the best place to start is always at the beginning. However, as that is usually a heavy time investment, either the first entry of that arc or just the most recent prior entry is usually good enough. But the more experience you have with the characters, the more you'll get out of the new games.

Great podcast. I know this is totally unrealistic but I will always recommend starting with Yakuza 1 from the PS2 up until now - seeing Kamurocho evolve over console generations is a truly amazing and unique experience unlike anything else in games! That city is its own main character of this beautiful series.
