When will game query be added to the minn max family of shows?

What’s your favorite replacement work for “nonsense?” Malarkey? Hooey? Bunk?

Stevelution

Hey everyone! You’re the main character in a game and the other cohorts are bosses in the game. Who do you think is the toughest boss fight and what are their powers?

Travis in Fargo

The other day, I picked up Humankind for PS5. I remembered hearing it was a cool Lemmings-like puzzle game, with an interesting aesthetic. I quickly realized that the game I was thinking of was Humanity, and had no interest in Humankind at all. Have you ever bought the wrong game? I assume this happened a lot with Outer Wilds/Outer Worlds.

John Scovic

Finally, a fighting game person on the podcast! Let's get them all out of the way while Suriel is here: Suriel, who's on your wishlist for Tekken guest characters? Suriel, are you excited for Street Fighter 6 finally getting a balance patch soon, and are you still playing? Suriel, can you please explain to the panel why they should be paying attention to 2XKO? Thanks Suriel, welcome back and congrats on the game announcement!

Sam Worms

I recently had a kidney stone and it was easily the most painful thing I've ever experienced. Just curious - what's the most painful thing that's ever happened to you? Stay hydrated, everyone!

Graham Walker

For some reason for the longest time I just didn't click that www stood for world wide web. What's a glaringly obvious thing that for some reason you didn't get?

Brainfreeze

I had a dream that Jacob Geller chose me to be the one person to get to see one of his videos a week early at his home, and I got excited and nervous and asked him a bunch of questions about the video while we watched it because I really wanted him to know I appreciated it. But then Jacob got mad at me for talking over the video and I got the impression he thought I was too dumb to get it so we just sat there in silence. It got awkward after a while, so Jacob just got up and started making dinner while I sat there. I think we eventually just started living together because we were both too uncomfortable to bring up my leaving. Anyway, y'all have any funny dreams featuring other cohorts?

Jordan

Howdy friends! I have a huge backlog of audiobooks to listen to and would like a game to play while getting caught up, but I really need a game with close to 0% thinking/decision making in order to focus… even a game like Stardew Valley requires a bit too much thinking . Any recs? Thanks!

Thomas Deranek

Do any of you have a specific video game collectible item that "got away" from you? For me personally, I specifically like to collect Link Amiibo figures, but only started gathering them about a year and a half ago. Now there are quite a few and they can generally only be purchased at a marked up price, so it will take me some time to be able to display Link in all his glorious Amiibo forms. Thomas Raleigh, NC

Hey, Minnfolk, what’s the best/funniest name/gamertag you’ve ever seen out in the wilds?

Rikimaru

Hello MinnMax! What are the best release dates or release windows for games? There are some games that try to hit a marketable date like 11/11/11 for Skyrim and Starfield missing the 11/11/22 date. More recently, FF7 Rebirth hit the leap day release of 2/29 that we won't have again for 4 years? Could part 3 be aimed at that same date? When is the best date or time to release games? Thanks for all you do!

Ari

Hi Minnmax, Did your parents allow you to purchase matured rated games when you were young? Also did you have that one friend whose parents didn’t care?

Aging_Poorly

Hey team and welcome back Suriel! When I was a kid, I lied to my mom about a fight that happened on the playground at school. *I* knew that *she* knew that I was lying... and although she never called me on it, it’s haunted me ever since. So my question: other than saying that Haley DeBoom would appear on additional MinnMax content, have you ever told a lie that still eats away at you?

Zeth Hillman-Johnson

What game do you think didn't get talked about enough in its time? What did gamers move on too quickly from?

Shane C

What is the thing you have changed your mind about most completely in your life?

ProcyonNumber6

Hey Benn and Friennds, Oh no! MinnMax has been kicked out of Minnesota! Where does it relocate and how does it affect the name? MichMax? AriMax? PennMax to keep the two Ns?

CrabPalace

Last week you spoke about how AAA games are becoming unsustainably expensive and slow to develop. I hate to say it but it seems like AI could speed up development dramatically in the coming years. I don't think anyone is excited about AI generated dialog, story, art - but there's a potential for it to be used to overcome technical challenges. Do you think we'll hear about a naughty dog or insomniac etc using AI in a big upcoming release, and do you think it has the potential to make AAA game development more sustainable if used responsibly?

Elliot Barker

With live service games seemingly and quickly becoming the games that publishers will swear off of, is there any video game franchise or other IP that you would still like to see made under that banner? And if so, who's the developer and what would you want in the Battlepass/Premium store?

Kevin Kuper

Hello! I've been trying to make a conscious effort to finish any game I start and only have 1 or 2 I'm playing at one time. However sometimes when a game isn't clicking I will just move on, life is too short. My question is how often when you put down a game knowing you won't go back to it or do you always think there is a chance you will go back to finish it? Thanks!

Victor Jesus Moreno

What would this podcast sound like if it was 2001? Can y'all pretend like the new hotness is Final Fantasy X and MGS2 and whatever else came out around this era? I long for the PS2.

DontBashAsh

Janet has asked this question on a few of her Persona 5 streams: If you were an RPG character that hadn’t yet been introduced to the player, what would your character descriptor (labelling your speech bubble) be? According to the guy who I honked at the other day, I’d be “green-haired bitch!” But most of the time I think I’d probably be “empathetic woman” or something similar.

Sean Emmett Thompson

I've been wanting to finally jump into the FFVII remake series, and have been thinking lately about my favorite Final Fantasy, Ten. I would personally love to see how FFX could be remade, but feel unsure it would happen any time soon. My question is - do you think that Square will continue the remake trend, and if so, what would you want to see vs. what would you bet is the most likely follow up?

RiskyChrisP

Hi, Chohorts, Did you enjoy high school? I feel like there’s a lot of disdain for that era of our lives, but I really enjoyed it. It was where I felt I grew into my personality and learned a lot about myself, and I met a lot of my closest friends there.

Mike Lynch

What's the wildest thing somebody told you that you were sure was a lie, but turned out to be true?

Devin Atlee-Nutts

Hey MinnMaxers, While listening to the discussion about Pacific Drive on the podcast, something about it seemed strangely compelling and I realised I have an affinity for a particular micro-genre of games: ones where you travel in your home. This may sound odd but some examples are the ship in Starfield, the submarine in Subnautica, and the Magnum Opus from Mad Max, all of which I had a great time cruising around in, upgrading, and being the home base for adventures. Is this a mechanic y'all enjoy? Are there any other niche gameplay systems you are strongly attracted to? Cheers, Tom

Kraven Morcome

Hey MinnMax, You know the phrase "Many ways to skin a cat"? What do you think the person who invented that phrase was like? I bet they really killed the vibe at parties, assuming they were ever invited.

Modestbrock

Is Dondoko island the first hyper realistic cozy game? Usually they are very chibi inspired or cartoony. Would a stand alone hyper realistic cozy game sell?

Joshua Novalis

Hey Cohorts! I recently heard a podcast talking about the worst video game titles of the past few years, and among the ones they discussed, they included Lies of P. Let’s be clear: I don’t think Lies of P is a ‘great’ title, but it was weird and off-kilter enough that I never once forgot it. If a title sticks in your brain that effectively, can you really call it bad? All that to say: what are some of your favorite “so bad it’s good” game names? What names, in theory, shouldn’t work, but somehow do the job?

Travis in Fargo

If you could know how many more Legend of Zelda games will be released in your lifetime, would you want to know?

Andrew Rennolds

Hey all! If you could only drink 1 drink for the rest of your life what would it be ?

Sam Kennedy

I've been playing Persona 5 Royal and love that the main way you get stronger is by hanging out with your friends. No more 'dad games'--I want 'friend games'. Do y'all want more games about the power of friendship?

Chandler

what's up JGs and the OG CH (cohort) What's the best sound effect you can make with your mouth?

Duderado

Do you like word-based board games? What are your favorites?

Travis in Fargo

What’s the next game or series that should get the “Cadence of” treatment?

Howdy! A couple of weeks ago, it was asked if the crew believed that Dead Space Extraction was anyone's favorite game of all time. I did a little follow up research and found some praise that is pretty close to that. Mark Smith over at "Game Lite Chronicles", said that Dead Space Extraction was his "personal favorite game on the entire system to date". Wesmeister131 wrote an Amazon review saying "Absolutely! Positively! Amazing! Game! Soooo! Much! Fun! & Incredibly! Addictive!!!!! The Nintendo! Wii is Now! My Favorite! Console!" Daniel McKleinfeld of Slant Magazine said of Extraction: "Visceral Games's Dead Space Extraction is a game so good it single-handedly redeems its entire genre." I couldn't find anyone online specifically calling this game their favorite of all time, but this research left me a lot more confident that this hypothetical weirdo is out there.

Aviddemon

How fast is too fast to listen to podcasts? I got a job a few months back where I can listen to stuff while working and I expanded the number of podcasts I listen to (including the MinnMax Show) but I expanded too much and I now I sometimes have to speed up my podcasts to 1.5x speed or even 2x speed some days especially if I want to listen to music, audiobooks or a baseball game during the summer. I once listened to a podcast at 3x speed which was interesting. Anyways, do you people speed up podcasts or youtube videos and how fast is too fast?

RickyWinterborn

do you think podcasters are safe from ai taking your job? I'm an animator and it's looking grim...

Steve Bellegarde

Hey MinnMax! I had this debate with my friends and wanted your opinions. If someone has prepared Orange Chicken for you but they have secretly replaced the orange sauce with DayQuil. The chicken is cooked normally otherwise. How confident are you that you would be able to figure it out before you take the first bite?

Catpurrnicus

How come no one is reading my Bert and Ernie fan fiction?

Hey MinnMaxers, I've been asked to assist interviewing people for the new vacancy in my department. I want to help make a difference for the office long term, what broad personality traits makes a great employee/coworker? Do you have a favorite coworker (not necessarily friend) that brought out the best in you? Thanks!

thejjuan1

Why do gamers care so much about water in games? There was a tweet complaining about FF7R that Cloud does not get wet in a river. This feels like the puddle in Spider-man all over again.

Dustin L

What's y'alls favorite type of chip?

SuperCerberus

Hey crew! I’m going to PAX East in a few weeks, and it’s going to be my first time at a big convention. What tips do you have to make the most of my time and maximize the fun while I’m there? Also, do you know if anyone from the MinnMax extended family is going to attend?

September's Wake-up

Hey MinnesotaMaximers, What do you think is a cardinal sin for video game adaptations into TV or film? Seems like some try to run away from their source material, ala Resident Evil and 's managed adaptations, and others stick very close to it (like The Last of Us). Is either approach better, or do you prefer the world expansion of shows like Arcane, or Edgerunners? Thanks!

Miskain

If you could choose one item from a video game to have in real life, what would you choose? Mine would be a hearthstone from Warcraft: it fits in a pocket and lets you return to home instantly from anywhere :)

Hey Minnmax! In between catching up on games from the last year and too many runs of Balatro, I’m preparing for my medical school interview. Not sure if any of you are familiar, but med school interviews (especially in Canada) are really daunting. They’re over an hour long, you’re cycled through a bunch of interviewers, and primarily given ethical dilemmas to discuss comprehensively in only a few minutes. My interview is virtual, so hopefully I can channel Ben’s energy during all his conversations with developers. I’d love to hear each of your strategies for controlling your nerves before an important event or looking your best on webcam. Thanks, Nick

Hey awesome people! It is women’s month so I would love to know 1 - favourite female hero 2- favorite female sidekick 3- favorite génial vilain Bonus point if you name a favorite woman dev !

Hey cohorts. No question today, but an update on the push for saying "rogue games" instead of roguelikes/lites: Since The Indie Council started and since Janet started appearing on Remap, I'm getting a lot of Janet content every week. My podcast feed is basically "The Janetverse" at this point. But after listening to all of these podcasts, I've noticed that on every one of them, Janet is always saying "rogue games". She's out there still committing to what you guys pushed for but gave up on!

How can consumers advocate for better treatment of game developers and reduce the number of layoffs? Should consumers boycott games not made by union employees?

MarriottPlayer

Hi all! For years, my dad would ask me “When are you going to outgrow video games?” and I always replied “Never!” and at some point he stopped asking. Did anyone ever ask you when you were going to outgrow video games?

Trapezoid

What’s the craziest place you’ve ever run into somebody you knew? I went to high school in the Chicago suburbs, and my family was on summer vacation in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. I turned around from a beautiful waterfall and I saw my buddy from high school walking up the trail, it was wild!

Clint Farley

Hey MinnMax, What's a game you had fond memories of as a kid but on a return playthrough as an adult it just shattered your rose-tinted glasses? With the release of the Tomb Raider trilogy remaster I decided to jump into TR2, which was my favorite until The Last Revelation. I had nothing but positive memories about the game, but on replay I realized it's just not good. I won't get into all of my issues, but after the great opening level you then play NINE LEVELS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH RAIDING TOMBS OR ANCIENT CITIES. All of the Venice levels, Oil Rig, and underwater levels suck. And it's frustrating that it doesn't get better until you finally get to Tibet. I used to think TR2 was so much better than TR1, but now I realize I was super wrong. I must have just level skipped on subsequent playthroughs as a kid and wiped the memory of those terrible levels from my mind.

MakeItUnclear

Bad news: You have been transported to a parallel dimension. You will be missed. Good news: You have all kinds of weird games to look forward to checking out. So what are you grabbing first: Baldur's Ring or Elden Gate?

Luca Alberti

Hey crew, today I'd like to talk about the short term benefits of GamePass: while most people expect GP to turn into a self destructing Netflix of games eventually, right now it's providing much needed funding to smaller devs, often covering a large chunk of development costs (which not always would have been recovered) for these teams, allowing them to greenlit new projects. Given devs retain rights to their games do you think we'll pass a threshold where GP was a net positive to the industry or will it ultimately cause more harm than good by getting players used to not buying games? Since Jacob is on the pod I'll give an example: Immortality was on GP at launch, they made a lot of money from that deal, and I don't think Half Mermaid would be working on 2 games right now if they didn't get that additional money.

Gavin Fitzgerald

Hey all, It appears the console market has hit a ceiling of 200m units, and it hasn't really changed since the PS2. If you look purely at Xbox and PlayStation's combined install base, the two platforms haven't really grown in over two decades (around the 170 million to 180 million user mark). The Switch is about 140 million. The console space doesn't appear to be growing. New players have come in, but are just as many aging out or what? Why do you think the space isn't growing, especially now that games are a more established & accepted media? Do you have any ideas on how to improve this?

FinalSin

Hello All, What is your favorite food/drink that you love and that others think are disgusting? Like I love coleslaw with fries and ketchup on top, maybe its a Pittsburgh thing, but My wife thinks it's super gross. Lol

Kelsey Sims

Hey gang! The past month or so before Final Fantasy VII Rebirth came out, I played the original game for the first time, replayed Remake and the DLC, watched Advent Children and The Deepest Dive, have been reading the tie-in books, and have been listening to the different soundtracks constantly. Wild to see that written down, but when really I get into something I get INTO it! My question is: is there a piece of media (game, show, movie, etc) that you were anticipating so much that you fully immersed yourself into anything about it you could get your hands on?

PhillyYeetSteak

Are there any pieces of media that is a combination of your interests, but just doesnt appeal to you? For example, i love movies and racing games, but the Gran Turismo movie does nothing for me

Tonytheswordsman

WAZZUP!? Is Red 13 Cut or malnourished?? Maybe I should have given him that 3rd sandwich.

Vilis

Is it even conceivable, for our generation of gamers, to experience anything again like the past 365 days of gaming? We start with a double slam of the HZD expansion and Final Fantasy 16 coming out. Paraglide into Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and a Knife attack from Resident Evil 4 Remake. Then a full on Mind Blast from Baldur's Gate 3 Stuns the gaming industry for 2 months solid and once we recover we're hallucinating Alan Wake's nightmares in Alan Wake 2. And now Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is this impossible game Limit Breaking all over the place in ways that no game should honestly be allowed to except a Kojima game, but they're pulling it all off. So.... will we ever see these days again? What beloved franchises are going to come around again to fill us with joy?

Fatt Mish

Hello cohorts! I hope your days are all well. Do any of you have any preferences or predictions on what game to movie adaptions might be announced this year? Take care. Mars from MN

Graham Jones

I have been watching some videos on the new game Banishers: ghosts of new Eden. I find that it reminds me a lot of the Witcher 3 with the story and gameplay. Which has me thinking... What are the cohorts favorite knock off games and what did those games take inspiration from? Also, if any of the cohorts have played it, what are your thoughts on Banishers?

Patrick Hughes

Hello hello hello MinnMax. Welcome to the third month of the year that is March. As the saying goes, good things come in three, so I ask you - What is the best trilogy in the world of video games? (Valve can participate in this question if it ever learns to count to three)

Jonathan Dinh

Hello MinnMax, Have you ever played a game/genre and it didn’t click, but some time later you revisited it and did a complete 180 on it?

notweirder

Hey all, I really enjoyed the conversation on last weeks podcast about defining success and finding happiness in your everyday life. On that note, I was wondering if there’s anything you’ve come to appreciate about working at a smaller outlet like MinnMax?

Ryan Stanton

Hello beautiful MinnMax Team, Leo’s Hitman GALOT from last week’s podcast reminded me of my own fun Hitman 3 fact which came up on another podcast Thumb Cramps. Turns out one of the featured community contracts was made when a QA worker from IO Interactive - Peppar - was given the opportunity to design a mission. They chose to centre the mission on one character who they had found extremely annoying when having to replay the level as part of their QA job and so chose them as the target as a form of “spite” - their words, not mine. The question this makes me think of isn’t “Which Video Game Character Would You Design A Hitman Contract for?” as fun as that might be. Instead, I thought it was interesting that the story behind the choosing of the target was something that was exclusively a little Easter egg for this one dev that the public may not even realise otherwise and so would love to know what your favourite “we put this in just for us” moment in games is - something that the developers put in solely because they wanted it in there, audience be damned

Ian

How consistently can you crack an egg without breaking little bits off?

LlorchDurden

From 2024 predictions, Janet said super early in the year "no Switch 2 hardware this year" and I got last week a bunch of videos on my feed from people saying "you know what? no Switch 2 this year". She was clearly ahead of the game on that one! So: Any other 2024 Predicitons Janet? Or maybe Switch 2 predictions? Is Janet willing to swing it and give us a release date for it?

CptCobblePot

Greetings Minnmaxers! What’s your least favorite fad/trend nowadays? My wife and I were talking about how hydration became such a weird “trend”recently. Like drinking from a cool cup is the new thing to do. Thanks for keeping hydrated people. But why do healthy habits become fads for so many?

Victor Pham

What are your travel goals in the next decade?

GreenMountainState

Hey MinnMax, Question for Suriel. Do you still keep an eye on Destiny 2? If so, does your recent game development experience give you any insight or appreciation for the Bungies narrative teams recent successes and hurdles? Thanks!

RushingSomewhere

Are there side quests you need to complete in ff7 remake to fully enjoy ff7 rebirth?

dingus2k

Hey MinnMax, With titles like Laika: Aged Through Blood and Pacific Drive merging game genres to build a connection between the player and their car/motorcycle, are there other game genres that you think could work well with an upgradable vehicle?

Chris Orr

Has anyone beat the intel battle where you have to kill the mindflayer first. I’m a completionist but I gave up after a few hours and will come back and visit later lol

MadSwell

Congratulations on the book release, Jacob! What's a book that each of you has recently read and found profoundly impactful?
