It's Elden Ring. In the lead-up to the long-awaited Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, Leon, Brian, Jay and Thomas summon collaborators and take on the daunting quest of podcasting about a game with just so much to it. With a collective play time of 750 hours or so  - thousands if you include our community contributors - we attempt to encapsulate the scale and scope of FromSoft's epic open-world RPG, share the highs and lows of our times in The Lands Between and even address the feeling shared by some that there was, if anything, too much game...Music featured in this issue:1. Song of Honor by Tsukasa Saitoh/Shoi Miyazawa/Tai Tomisawa/Yuka Kitamura/Yoshimi Kudo2. Song of Lament by Tsukasa Saitoh/Shoi Miyazawa/Tai Tomisawa/Yuka Kitamura/Yoshimi KudoEdited by Jay Taylor

This is huge. I am gonna make a *meal* of this episode. You know, really *draw a bath* and just *steep* in it. I am *genuinely* excited for this episode, y’all. Phew.

My write in at the start was very negative but I promise I enjoyed the game 😅

Bought the game at release. Have stopped playing From Software Games back then as they are so demanding but this podcast makes me want return to Miyazaki‘s games immediately.

Their games do seem to demand your full attention for a majority of the time you spend playing them. That’s a part of what I think feels so good and leaves a lasting impression; you cannot just “phone it in” in the same way you can with a lot of other video games. FromSoftware makes video games you have to fully participate in. The story, for instance, requires the player to do the archeological work of piecing together information scattered throughout.

This was a wonderful episode to make a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake to.

This was a great show, thanks to all involved. I started out with the Samurai class too, but I don't think it really makes any difference after a couple of hours. Once I found the Moonveil Katana I used it right to the end of the game. I won't be playing the DLC personally, I stupidly started a NG+ instead of staying in the world after finishing and to be honest can't be bothered playing so many hours again just to reach the DLC area! I think DLC is one area Fromsoft don't really get right. The DLC itself is always great, but reaching it is always, without exception, far too convoluted!

I always seem to find myself, and I've only just realised this, in a bit of a gaming funk after beating one of their games. As you say, they demand your whole attention and occupy your thoughts even outside of the game. When I look back now, it happened after Dark Souls, Bloodborne, most of them probably, and it's definitely happened recently after finishing Elden Ring a few weeks ago. Other games just seem so frivolous for a while.

So I demand in my correspondence an indicator for new inventory items on the C&R Elden Ring episode and two weeks later FromSoft patch it in. Coincidence? 😀 I know my comments sounded negative but I adore this game. I just don't think it's perfect and wanted to put some counterpoints forward. Hope Jay still doesn't want to have rows if we met in person...!

I've now played so much Elden Ring I have a headache from it! with the podcast on of course
