Vampire Survivors started off as a solo developer effort that turned into a huge indie hit. A compulsive experience that employs various slots-style visual and audio cues to give upgrades more 'juice', the game is nevertheless an incredibly generous affair with rock bottom store prices and no microtransactions. Thomas, James and Sean – along with contributors from the listening community – chat through the basic, charming visuals, the gameplay loop, and the ethics of tricks borrowed from world of gambling.Music featured in this issue:1. I shall listen to this whilst playing a game. Anyone think of a perfect podcast game? 🤷

I've played heaps Vampire Survivors on mobile, again on Switch, and most recently bought it again on PS5, what an absolute banger.

I personally don’t like the term podcast game as I want to focus on one media at a time. We are all too distracted due to smartphones and as I love video games as an art form I love to give them my whole attention. The same with a movie.

I finally picked up Vampire Survivors after listening to Brian and especially Leah mention it in almost every Character Issues podcast episode. By the time I heard them go on about it for like the 40th time I was like ok I’m looking this game up, it must be worth checking out if they are still talking about it. I saw the price was low and picked it up. Since then I put in almost 200 hrs split between my profile and my wife’s profile. This game is just fun. Plan and simple. It is the most easily accessible game I have ever experienced and can be easily enjoyed by anyone. Even more for people who grew up in the NES and SNES days where the more you play the more you unlock. It’s great value for the money. I definitely recommend this game to anyone interested in games in general.
