Here's our 70th exclusive monthly podcast (that's six years and 10 months worth, unless Jay's maths is crap)! As is usual for this podcast we talk about a bunch of stuff we watched and played but since someone (My bad, sorry! - Leon) deleted the show notes before Jay could copy the list we can't tell you in detail but we do remember that a weird as f**k anime on Netflix and a game about a monkey with a stick were discussed, so there's that.Enjoy and, if you feel so inclined, please leave us a like and a comment.

After following the news this week, this is the kind of nice thing to see pop up! I shall sit down this evening and listen to this while enjoying a fine glass of whiskey, and playing something that requires minimal brain power!

I think that game was called ‘the monkey that couldn’t slow down’

Always good to see the monthly notification pop up!

Tolkientaters

Twilight of the Warriors was great, best action film this year.

Looking forward to the Joker talk next month. I actually liked this sequel a lot, probably because I had such low expectations. I feel it retroactively adds weight to the first film, especially during an impressive witness testimony scene (you'll know the one). It was too long and Gaga was underused, though. And not to tantalize you guys any further, but here's a little collage of stuff I've baked while listening to the pod: https://imgur.com/a/cane-rinse-pies-ygullzq They're a raspberry/cream cheese/white choc pie, a creamy banana pie, a Biscoff pie, white choc 'peanut rocks' with pistachio crumbs on top, and that pecan pie (that was so bloody sweet it would have sent a baklava running). I promise I'll drop one off if I'm ever in the area ;-)

I have to unfortunately agree with Leon on the latest Alien film. After a promising start the simply laughable unspecial effects for “that” returning character was quite shocking and took me out of the movie completely. This was only compounded by the constant reuse of dialogue from other films. For all the great work they had put into the lighting, cinematography, design to undo it all by these aspects was really frustrating as they are all easily avoided

I personally would rather you guys have the game podcasts be full on spoilers. For narrative driven games, I only ever listen once I've completed the game entirely, so I'm kind of prepared to hear everything. I feel like most other podcasts/YouTubers I listen to dance around spoilers, which can leave the conversation feeling flat. Maybe just add in a spoiler warning like you guys usually do for when the story is about to be discussed? Or have a spoiler and spoiler free version of each podcast? Though that'd probably be a lot of editing work. Idk that's just my 2 cents, cheers!

Message for Mark Hoogland in the comments section. You make a damn good dessert!

The current format is perfect. I often play games after listening to a show and hearing your recommendations along with what was said throughout shows. Some fantastic games i would otherwise have missed out on if I'd not listened.

Pizza Hotline

Nice one guys. Switching into a spoiler free podcast wouldn't work. If there's a game on the list I want to play I always complete it before listening. I'm sure most people are the same. Cheers for the black mugs! I'll order one

Hello chaps, excellent waffling as always. Just a random question. Jay, I know you are an open world fan. It's never been my chosen genre, but I recently finished Sleeping Dogs and am playing through Mafia Definitive Edition and I was wondering if you have ever had the pleasure of playing either of these games? Sleeping Dogs has a fantastically realized modern day Hong Kong setting with great driving, shooting, hand to hand combat and story. Mafia's shooting is not the greatest, but it has an amazing 1930s America setting and excellent story. Since you are a fan of well realized worlds I thought you might enjoy these (not to mention they are cheap as chips!).

Luke Scriven

Ah I must have missed that one, thank you! Will check it out on my ride home today.

Luke Scriven

Update: Probably good I didn’t listen to the pod before I played the game, since none of you seemed to like it very much!

Cane and Rinse

Didn't we? How strange, I remember it the other way (Leon).

Luke Scriven

I haven’t reached the end of the pod yet so maybe it ends on a positive note! You, Leon, so far have disliked the story, voice acting, driving, ludonarrative dissonance, found the shooting passable, and liked the hand to hand combat and radio station music. I think you’re particularly irked by the inconsistent tone of the game. I played the definitive edition and loved the driving, not sure if the model changed or if I’m just more easily pleased, ha!

Ben Taylor

Did you like Prometheus Leon? There's definitely a through line from what I've seen of people that like the "Prometheus Alien" universe not liking Romulus and vice-versa. I thought it was ok, script rough like you said, I love the look of the ships etc (one of my favourite thing about alien is how everything looks used, abused, dirty, somewhat unsafe, like real machinery would look). But it all felt a bit fan-servicey and safe to me.

Azzan

Did Jay manage to complete Sekiro before starting Black Myth? Did he manage to witness the epic fight of “ape escape” in the game?

Alex79

Only just managed to listen to this. Great show as always. Nothing interesting to add this month - I did think of something as I was listening but can't remember it now, but take my word for it, it was an interesting and valid point. Thanks!

Alex79

Oh I remember now! The reason the actor changed for Falcone in the Penguin was apparently because John Turturro turned it down because he didn't agree with the content of the show, and the way violence towards women was portrayed: www.superherohype.com/guides/586312-the-penguin-john-turturro-violence-towards-women/amp

Forgot to post back after listening. Great as always. Two things, thank you Jay for DanDaRan - it is excellent and does have heavy FLCL vibes, and I am extremely excited to hear Jay’s thoughts on Arcane season 2 (i fucking loved it).

Branford Hubbard

touching on the ian holmes bit, allegedly he always felt like he wanted more roles, and his family okayed him being in this posthumously. Obviously, asking the man himself would be nice. It's going to be weird if we ever hear james earl jones' voice in something, as he's another one who agreed to license his voice as AI
