Here's where you can contribute your thoughts and opinions for Pseudoregalia for potential inclusion in the forthcoming podcast.A friendly reminder that where the feedback for the podcast is concerned, we love it - but keeping it brief is appreciated. We do want to include a breadth of opinions where appropriate, but no-one wants a discussion podcast that’s mostly reading out essays. Better to save yourself time and cut to the chase if you can.

The Cane and Rinse schedule led me to buy Pseudoregalia at the beginning of the year. I played about 2 hours of it back then − until some mild frustration in Sansa Castle − both at getting lost over and over and at seemingly impossible wall kick platforming − got me to put my SteamDeck aside. Picking it up again this week, I banged my head at the same wall-kick platforming section until I finally managed to get that one key… only to lose that progress soon after − I should have headed straight to the closest save point. Surely now that I have succeeded once, that platforming section should be a piece of cake, right? Well not quite − more head banging over more wall-kicking. After a more few hours in, I feel like I finally got the hang of that wall-kick mechanic, and I am now enjoying the platforming again − a bit of reading taught me about the side-flip ; and gaining the slide jump makes it a total joy to zip around − I expect future upgrades to make it even more of a joy. What I’m driving at though is that my early personal experience felt a bit at odds with what I had read about Pseudoregalia − how the movement is all slick and fun − I got there (for now), but definitely had to soldier through some frustration for a bit. Maybe because I tried do some sections before the upgrade that would make them trivial − or maybe I just needed to "get good" or whatever ;-) Overall the game hearkens back to my old days of PS1-era 3D platforming of Spyro, Tomb Raider or Soul Reaver − but in a way it’s a call-back to a time that never existed: none of these played nearly as smooth as Pseudoregalia does today. At that price-point, everyone should do themselves a favor and give it a try − although do expect to get frustrated at times I’d say − and gear up for a trip down memory lane: going in circles in Sansa Castle may well remind you of hours lost in a certain Water Temple.

(my comparison went to PS1 as I did not grow-up with an N64 (which Pseudoregalia probably calls-back to more) − perhaps the likes of Mario64 or Banjo-Kazooie did play as nice back then − I guess the panel will tell me :)
