Darren’s history with GTAIII made me laugh - he said when it came out he was a few years into being 18…I’m no Rachel Riley but surely that makes him in his twenties 😂

Definitely been there not having a memory card to save a game. That was Final Fantasy VII for me on PS1. I had to wait a whole week convincing my dad to go back to buy a memory card so I could finally get out of Midgard. As for GTA, please tell me Vice City for Volume 16.

Great show, really enjoyed this! Excellent hosting from Brian, and the show had a real oldskool feeling to it with Darren and Tony on the panel. And I think we can all agree, Glasgow Keltick are clearly Brian's favourite soccerball team 🤭 (sorry Brian!)

Appriciate Brian, Darren, and Tony for including my correspondence and having a thoughtful conversation around the controversey GTA3 generated back in the day and in the context of 2026 portrayal of violence and crime (the sex definitely never bothered me) in games and film. It occurred to me that the jump to 3D may have been what was so jarring to me. After all, I had been guilty of mowing down innocent civillians with an AK47 in the top down 2d adventures with a chuckle and a grin. Great show and might put this on my backlog list as a retro box to check... maybe. But (cue tomatoes) I still have the Metal Gear Series to get through!!!

In my quest to listen to every game that I have played or at least have heard of I’m here. I know I am an outlier for the GTA series in the sense that I don’t like them, at all. To me they are offensive for the sake of being offensive with its homophobia and misogynistic jokes. The open world concept , that though I know works for almost everyone, leaves me cold, I don’t enjoy the just do whatever mindset, I end up just bouncing off and go to a game with structure, give me a reason to like the characters and a reason to continue playing that’s more than just you can drive around. If I wanted that I could play any number of racing games, that have way better physics and controls to them as well. Which brings me to the controls. Admittedly I haven’t played this game since it came out but my memory says the controls were terrible, it felt like driving drunk while controlling sober, I hated it. This series as a whole just leaves me cold. I’m super glad that so many have found something they enjoy but sadly I am not one of them. Now having said all of that in the negative side this was a wonderful podcast to listen to, if nothing else to hear a point of view that I will probably never have. Thanks for the episode guys!

Fun fact I started listening to Cane and Rinse on Apple Podcasts about 5 or 6 years ago. I’ve listened to so many episodes at least 3 times with me listening to some series (like Final Fantasy and Yakuza about 4 or 5 times per episode). Next time around I will make more of an effort to say something even if I haven’t played the game or not, if nothing else as a marker for myself 🙂
