All back to the Spencer Mansion for a rerun of the events of the 1996 original Resident Evil. Leon, Karl, Michiel and Sean replay the events of the REmake by which all other remakes would hereon be judged. Did Capcom's Shinji Mikami effectively have the last word on traditional survival horror with this 2002 ground-up restoration? As usual we also share memories and opinions from the Cane and Rinse community.Music used in this issue:1. Main Hall by Shusaku Uchiyama, Makoto Tomozawa, Misao Senbongi2. Just like Code Veronica before it I went out and bought a system so I could play the new Resident Evil. This time the GameCube, I didn’t pick up the system at launch but a couple of months afterwards. After seeing all the screenshots in magazines my hype was off the charts for this remake. When I picked up the GameCube I got REmake and Super Monkey Ball. When I got home I plugged in the system and started playing REmake. It was everything I hoped for…until the Crimson Head zombies. Just like Code Veronica with its tyrant before I hit an insurmountable brick wall. I tried starting again with more strategic gameplay but I’ve always been terrible at dodging the dang zombies and thusly hit the same brick wall as before. I’ve tried to go back throughout the years and to save my life can’t get past the crimson head zombies. I guess this game just wasn’t for me ultimately. Yet another gorgeous game that I want to recommend whole heartedly but can only truly say play this if you like RE and are ready for a difficult game.
