Go to class, join the track team, date a pigeon. The average life of a high school student in 2187 might look fairly uneventful, but look a little closer and you’ll find that everybirdie is hiding a secret or two. Manga artist and writer, Hato Moa loves pigeons, and thanks to her visual novel/dating sim, Hatoful Boyfriend, maybe Jon, Leah and James will learn to love them too.Music featured in this issue:1. I’d love to know what people’s thoughts were if they listened to this episode without having played the game! It certainly ends up in a place that is totally unexpected from the start. This game made me think - what are the teams’ opinions on games that players could quite obliviously miss big chunks of, needing a walkthrough to avoid messing up some obscure combination of trigger points that advance a story. (I’m looking at you Dark Souls.)

Really interesting episode. I’ve not played any visual novels and this certainly gave me a peek behind the curtain.

I loved this episode. Thank you for making me cackle out loud while listening to your summaries of some of the romance pathways. I've not played this game but it's one of those games that just makes me happy to know it exists. Like, I'm happy that there are people out there making games about how much they love pigeons. Re the pigeons to doves ratio, the common-use word for both pigeon and dove in Japanese is the same (I guess there's maybe more technical but uncommon terms that zoologists etc use to distinguish the two?). So they are all hato! I remember going on a business trip to the UK for RWC2015 (back when I worked in Japan) and getting a kick out of one of my Japanese colleagues when he kept referring to pigeons as "doves" in English.
