Finally, I’ve been wondering about the rice cooker!

From all the C&R I’ve listened to, Leon has ever been a FR snob. Some people are sensitive to these things, I’m not. I think Remnant is a good game but a sequel could be a great game. I saw a rumour that Division 2 could be the PS Now game this month so I’ll get on it if it is

Miri Starling

I'm very happy with my playstation and I've never been tempted by an XBox, but I did feel a pang of envy when I heard the "Hellblade" sequel was going to be XBox/PC exclusive. The trailer is incredible. I'm looking forward to "God of War: Ragnarok" to get my Norse mythology fix, but even though the gameplay in "Hellblade" is inferior to GoW, I much preferred "Hellblade"'s creepy and fascinating interpretation of Norse mythology. (I use a muji rice cooker, and it's always served me well) Edit - I'm bilingual and after doing two language A-Levels at my comprehensive school (Japanese and German), I did a degree in a foreign language (Japanese) and used it to study abroad and to work abroad for a number of years (office job mainly translating and interpreting), and it's the basis of my current job - so there are Brits out there who adore languages and make careers in them! It's hard to encourage people but I think a lot of it is British people being embarrassed of making errors in front of other people when speaking in a sedond language. And I wish more Brits would learn foreign languages because they've enriched and changed my life (my friends, my career, my hobbies) and it would be great if everyone had those benefits, but I think the idea that British people are too arrogant and lazy to be good at languages puts people off even more. I think the situation isn't as bleak as all that, though. We have many Brits who grew up speaking a second language at home, and we also have a growing interest in British languages such as Welsh or Scottish Gaelic. My cousin went to a Welsh-language secondary school and grew up completely fluent despite his family only speaking English at home, and we have a family friend in the Highlands whose daughter speaks fluent Scottish Gaelic because of school. And with stuff like Duolingo, more British people are feeling confident dipping their toes in the water of learning languages (and often it's adults who had bad experiences learning languages at school and were put off - they're now discovering languages are fun). I sometimes do Italian and Korean evening classes and there are always loads of British students who take part and really have a passion for learning foreign languages. I think the situation is really changing for the better. (Although one time a nice Italian tourist family caught me looking over my vocabulary notes before class in the queue at Starbucks and we got to chatting and they told me that learning Italian is "pointless" 😂/😭) And for Japanese-speakers in the UK: I'm a Japanese-speaker who uses Japanese daily (at my job and in my social life), but there are also lots of other fun opportunities to speak Japanese in the UK. There are meet-up groups and book clubs and discussion clubs and things if you want to find more people to speak Japanese with. There are also speech contests for Japanese-as-a-second-language adults too, with some really good prizes. I'm sorry for being an annoying Pollyanna, haha. I made a career in languages so the second you started chatting about that it meant I was inevitably going to bore you all with a long comment evangelising about why learning languages is the best. ...I'll shut up now.

As a listener of mainly US podcasts, I immensely enjoy the variety of accents C&R brings to the table -- and to this day miss Darren's impenetrable Scottish!

Luke Scriven

I’d buy a Cane and Rinse poster any day of the week. Except Tuesdays. I never buy posters on Tuesdays.

Jon King

I have to echo everyone's praise of Jay's Instagram posts. It's pretty exceptional. Hoping you'll dig out the U.S. box art for the Mega Man 1&2 episode - nothing like a challenge! I hope you realise how much your podcasts (and the huge amount of work that goes into them) are appreciated. Keep up the good work!

Andy Pye

Great pod again. Love the high waffle content in these monthly rambles! Keep them coming!!!

Ben McSkelly

Also, I have no Interest in playing the division. But, I mainly like the chats on here. Hearing ppl talk about games they love is what C&R is about

If you want more likes you have to say "smash that like button guys" in the style of a youtuber. Them's the rules

Richard Harnwell

I’m embarrassed to admit, I didn’t realise there was any interaction (likes/comments) within Patreon itself until listening to this episode. I’ve been pretty good at likes on Twitter and my podcast provider but this is the first time I’ve been here. I wonder if others are the same.

Cory Summers

In the same boat as Richard, once I subscribe I pretty much never re-opened the Patreon app except to increase my monthly amount.

Ciaran Corrigan

On the subject of being apolitical and 'soapboxing' on the podcast, I can totally understand how, for the most part, you would want to remain apolitical. It's obviously a hot button subject, as shown by some of the previous interactions you've talked about, haha. That said, for me personally, I'm grateful that you guys do bring up politics from time to time. Peoples' political alignments can tell you a lot about their attitudes to certain things and what they care about and, to be quite honest, I'd rather know if someone was a bigot when I'm consuming their content, even if that content is unrelated to their political beliefs. Thankfully, it seems that we basically share the same attitudes and beliefs, politically and morally, so that's good, but if I didn't, then I'd probably be a nobhead anyway and have a go, like that Brexit lad you talked about. Anyway, cheers as ever for the show, folks. It's nice to listen to a general natter every month and get a little peak behind the curtain every month.

Dylan Kelly

Includes such quotes as "What is soup?"

James McCaul

Thanks guys. Your chat is always the best way to start a new month.

Jon Cheetham

You guys should get an earworm Like and Subscribe song like Adam Buxton. Also, if you stick with Remnant there are some very striking and colourful environments to look forward to later on.

I regret growing up monolingual, it is a disadvantage. I worked with a guy from Luxembourg who spoke Luxembourgish, German, French and Portuguese plus some more I might be forgetting. It was amazing hearing him pitch going from one to another. Later in life I've discovered a love of language. Learning Japanese with my wife has been one of the most fun things we've done together, and it's gratifying visiting out of the way parts of Japan and being able to get by without English. I also studied a bit of Indonesian, another beautiful language, and aim to learn Mandarin as growing up in Singapore my kid will learn it at school alongside English and potentially other languages too (everyone is bilingual here at a minimum, often trilingual). Never too late!

These monthly Patreon exclusive podcasts are fantastic 👌

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Yet ANOTHER monthly special descending in to political chat. I've been a Patreon subscriber since day one, and I for one do NOT tune in to the podcast for PERFECTLY REASONABLE debate and SENSIBLE POLITICAL OPINION. Left wing, liberal PLEASANTRY, and PROGRESSIVNESS!! How very dare you foster a culture of acceptance and NOT BEING A DICK. I will be CONTINUING TO SUBSCRIBE. Yours, in rage, woke sheep from Walsall.

Fernando Antúnez

I will have to agree with everyone and commend Jay for his amazing work over on Instagram. Due to the nature of social media some people might just glance over them, but if you really stop and get a good look you can see the amount of detail they all have! Speaking of social media an interactions, though I've been a Patreon subscriber for like 2 years, I rarely browse through or interact with the posts since I get the notifications on my email and then download the episodes through ITunes, but I will try to make more of a habit to at least live a like on them if it helps in any way. On the topic of "political conversations" I say keep 'em coming, if not on the main podcast, at least on the monthly ones. One of the reasons why I loves this monthly podcasts it's because it's just you guys having a genuine and spontaneous conversation about whataver comes in your mind at the moment and whatever you've been going through, and politics are as much a part of everyday life as mentioning what you've been playing/watching or deciding what rice-cooker to buy. Keep up the good work as always!
