I generally listen to every podcast episode regardless of what I know about the game. I may have a somewhat unique situation though, I'm a 26 year old guy who only got into gaming in about 2016 and this podcast has played a large role in what games I play. I went from only playing flash games and games at friends houses to owning 3 consoles and a decent PC, this and another gaming podcast played a large role in that.

Patreon ate my comment 😒 I'm someone who tends to waffle, and then I forget I wrote any correspondence until it's read out on the show. And when it is read out I regret it because I end up cringing into oblivion (is there any better way to realise how daft you sound than to have someone else read your words out loud??). So I personally don't mind if you need to cut back on correspondence etc to help with the workload. I appreciate the forum and the Patreon comments as a place to get my thoughts out (i.e bang on about nonsense for five hundred paragraphs) and to make friends. If editing all the comments is stressful, I don't think anyone would mind if you just used some of the discussion as ideas for the panellists to talk about or if you only read the particularly funny/insightful/moving comments. Although if you don't include every rice cooker-related comment, I'll have to write a formal letter of complaint - I'm invested in this discussion now. I'm friends with some people with different political views on some things. But unless it's a debate about pointless nerd stuff, I have a chronic aversion to debating or arguing with people. Mainly because I'm crap at it - I get emotional and tear-y eyed and it's not a good look. The friends I disagree with are good and kind people who have given me support over the years and it's easier for me to keep the peace and "agree to disagree". Maybe this makes me a coward. I also don't think I would be friends with anyone with really abhorrent views (like if someone was incredibly blatantly sexist, racist, homophobic etc). My sister loves a good political discussion and accused me of living in a bubble by avoiding conflict. But I like to read a lot about different political and ethical issues and I like to follow debates and arguments and learn about a variety of points of view. So I don't feel like I'm in an echo chamber. I just don't like to wade in myself. Especially when it's a debate with a friend where both parties are primed to get wound up and emotional. Seconding the "Akira" love. Otomo is a genius. I think a lot of nerds have a "dealbreaker" a la Jay's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" date story!! Edit - See? Waffle.

I have a friend from NY who loves to mock the concept of UK biscuits named 'digestives'.

The story arc with Jay’s rice cooker adventure isn’t very unlike a game release. First there was the announcement, which was more of a teaser. Then came the State of Cooking show with an update on developments. Then came the inevitable delay! Finally the cooker is almost here! Early reviews are out and it’s a GOTY (Gohan of the Year) contender 😎

You guys are doing nothing for my backlog control efforts!! I appreciate it though and look forward to listening 👍

[Jay] In addition to Akira, I should've mentioned another of Otomo's works that in many ways I feel is equally as great as Akira but is often overshadowed by his sci-fi opus, and that is Domu: A Child's Dream. The late Satoshi Kon once expressed an interest in adapting this incredible story into an anime and it always saddens me a little that this never materialised since the story, unlike Akira, lends itself to possibly an easier adaptation since it's a much shorter story with a smaller cast of characters. An incredibly emotional, riveting and concise story that, like Akira, feels like it could have been written yesterday and not 40 years ago.

I’m fortunate that colourblindness is the only accessibility problem I’ve ever experienced in life, but during your discussion on the subject I found myself unexpectedly moved by the story about Leon’s father-in-law asking which snooker ball was which. I’ve spent my whole life having to reluctantly ask family, friends and often complete strangers (usually shop assistants) what colour something is, knowing that the reply will include some level of mockery. As common as the problem is though, I’ve never heard anyone else doing so, and hearing this genuinely put a lump in my throat!

Thanks again for another podcast. You’ve all been great company while I’ve worked from home for the last year. Nice to hear about Mario Tennis. I’ve loved it since the GameCube.

On Resident Evil being first person. Some interesting trivia is that when the first resident evil was first being developed way back in the day the idea was to have it first person but at the time the technology wasn’t there. Should check out itchy, tasty:An unofficial history of resident evil by Alex Aniel, great read btw 👍

Great show and some interesting discussion. Personally, I really like the listener feedback in the shows and it's one of the things that helps cement the fact Cane and Rinse is a real community. And I really mean that, I speak to the guys on the forum more than I see my real life friends, and it's not just on the forum, it spills over to Twitter and online gaming etc. I talk with people I'd genuinely describe as mates, albeit ones I've never met. The sense of community around the show is a huge part of it for me.

Really enjoyed the chat about Jay and his new PS5, always get a bit of a buzz around new console chatter, just a shame that with the PS5 there isn't your regular stable of 'shooter, racing game, fighting game that you usually get on a new launch that jay could have tried his hand at. So after having it for a month, what are some your favourite features on the PS5? Also speaking of new consoles, will any of the team be lining up day one to get hold of a Switch Plus

Have to say, I’m a big fan of a Twirl being described as “a flake with a chocolate wrapper”

My dreams of being Jay's bit on the side scuppered by finding Crouching Tiger underwhelming. All that 'wire' fighting had no sense of heft (like Anime in the air fights) and the plot was meandering melodrama. Another thing, because of Legendary Edition I re-listened to the Me1&2 podcast. Was good but you've really improved on sound and editing quality. The pods now are just so polished

Great as always gents. Interesting to listen to the chat re the forums and the impact Slack has. Have you considered Discord as a supplement to or replacement of the forum? We had a dwindling forum at Retro Asylum and the move to Discord really changed things. We now have a very active and engaged community with lots of short chat like messages and longer form comments.
