In our latest single platform, one console podcast we cast our minds back to the mid-2000s and Sony's entry into the seventh generation. Leon, Karl, Ryan and Thomas dust off their PS3's and, along with contributions from the Cane and Rinse community, debate the strengths and weaknesses of this once highly desirable piece of hardware. We also look at the machine's infrastructure, UI and peripherals, as well as many of the noteworthy exclusives and digital treasures in the bulging library of games released throughout the 10-year lifespan of the PlayStation 3.edited by Jay Taylor

One of my favorite consoles, a bit of an underdog at the start of the generation, but I'd argue Sony came out on top towards the end what with the PS+ Instant Game Collection and some cracking exclusives. Look forward to listening!

Really enjoying this one. Just got to the PSN hack discussion, and I think there's a slight misremembering here. We were indeed offered a selection of 5 (I think) games, but we didn't get all of them. We had to choose which two we wanted to claim. I had Infamous and Dead Nation :)

Great podcast, love these console specials. Thanks all!

Great discussion as ever. It was only when a correspondent mentioned that this was the first console they bought with their own money that I realised it was mine too. While I still think this was a flawed console, it was definitely money well spent. On the discussion about Demon's Souls and its cult following; I remember it being on PS+, which might have helped gained it some attention. I'm certain it was just after the hack as well, so with the free month even more players would have had access to what was considered at that time an overlooked gem.

Yep. As an Australian I had set up a US PSN account to access with wider variety of games, so got to double dip!

Alex79

Ah I never thought of that back then John, good idea!

It was a couple of years after the hack that Demon's Souls was given away. The only reason I know is because it was given away when I'd just split up from my partner and remember being back at my parents for a few months and feeling thoroughly miserable as I played through it! Good (bad?) times 😆

I’m desperate to get a 60GB PS3 again after listening to this. I’ve been looking at hacks and it seems all Fat models are hackable, some skins but no BBQs are hackable
