While MicroProse didn't exactly break the mould with the original Civ, they certainly kept hold of the mould once it was made. Sid Meier's Civilization (30 years ago) and Sid Meier's Civilization II (five years later), offered deep and endlessly compelling yet accessible aeon-spanning strategy that would become a multi-generational franchise. Leon, Chris, Josh and community contributors keep taking just one more turn.Music featured in this podcast:1. Civilization Introduction (Part One) by Jeff Briggs2. I only started with the series at Civ 4 and been mildly (at times extremely) addicted since. Really looking forward to hearing about the early games.

Having the Civ series available at my sofa/bed/bus stop is one of the reasons that I've plumped for a Steamdeck. That may well turn out to be a really bad idea for my sleeping habits... Looking forward to the show.

Well, I've gone back to Civ VI after listening to this. I didn't expect FreeCiv being mentioned, I played it a bit in the early 2000s, it was my first 4X experience.
