Here's where you can contribute your thoughts and opinions for Hollow Knight for potential inclusion in the forthcoming podcast.A friendly reminder that where the feedback for the podcast is concerned, we love it - but keeping it brief is appreciated. We do want to include a breadth of opinions where appropriate, but no-one wants a discussion podcast that’s mostly reading out essays. Better to save yourself time and cut to the chase if you can.

Is this a new thing? Giving a heads up on patreon? I often miss mentions on social media and don’t frequent the forum too often but with patreon updates I get emails. So for me, this is ideal. Not that I have anything interesting to say about hollowknight :D

I have a lot of memories of this one. I used to get to work early (due to unpredictable traffic patterns) and sit in the car for a half hour playing the game on my Switch. The game’s basic controls are accessible enough that my four-year-old daughter could mess around with the first few rooms and have fun with it, thinking she actually stood a chance. It’s one of the first games she was actually able to recognize and name due to its striking visual style. She used to sing “This is Hollow Knight” to the tune of the opening song of “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Hollow Knight was my first souls-like game, and I’ll never forget the absolute sick devastation I felt when I died on the way to pick up my huge geo stash I’d lost on the previous run and realized that the game had saved instantly and I’d lost hours’ worth of currency. I Googled frantically trying to find some loophole to recover it—to no avail, of course. I still feel bizarre pangs of regret as I think about it now. I did as much of the content felt fun to me and bowed out from some of the more hardcore stuff. I have another strong memory of trying in vain to beat the true final boss dozens of times only to realize I hadn’t powered up one of my moves—I did so, came back, and beat him in one or two tries. Overall, a shining example of the genre that left a strong impression on me.

Hollow Knight is such a mixed bag. It starts strong but then opens up to become a giant map with gates it feels like you should be able to pass and yet don't actually have the ability to yet. Leaving me going in circles more often then not. Every time I needed to consult a guide to figure out what to do it felt like a failure and yet once I was exploring the next area I was fully engaged again. Dark Souls and Metroid hide optional things and there is a joy in finding them, but Hollow Knight frequently hiding the critical path is unfortunately what I will always remember about it.

I absolutely adored this game from start to finish. The way the visual style and audio design work together is absolutely sublime! I will always remember the first time I arrived in the City of Tears and heard that piano tune playing against the sound of the rain, or entering the Colosseum of Fools for the first time and hearing the crowd explode into roars and cheers behind a clearly dead king! Absolutely beautiful! Gameplay wise - it is very well tuned. Everything feels sharp and precise, so you know you can get past the challenges if you just focus. And the pace at which you unlock upgrades is great. It has an almost relaxed/peaceful feel as you traverse the world, even though said world can be extremely unforgiving. I believe that's what it shares the most with Dark Souls. Just a real somber feeling of place. And saying that - Silksong stands side by side with Elden Ring as one of my most anticipated upcoming releases. 3 word review: A Bugs Life

You either master playing this game or you will never finish it. And even if you master it, getting the platium or the true ending is far from guaranteed. I played it twice (on nintendo switch and PS4), and sometimes i wish i supported the kickstarter campaign of Team Cherry’s masterpiece, and get my name in the credits.

An incredible game and probably my favourite platformer of all time. Achieving the triple-crown of beating the Radiance, traversing the Path of Pain and defeating Nightmare King Grimm is up there with my proudest gaming achievements. However, how anyone completes the Pantheon of Hallownest – a nonstop gauntlet of every boss in the game, with some in even tougher form – is beyond me. That must surely be one of the sternest challenges in all of videogamedom?

Loved the art style, the music and the platforming. Bounced off very hard on early bosses. Luckily my teenage son (who has finished the game with 112% completion) has stepped in to help me out in difficult boss fights so that I can continue my journey through the game ❤️

There is lots of great feedback here and on the forum, all I want to add is if you have a Switch OLED or an OLED TV the world of Hollownest is absolutely fantastic. The colorful, contrasty but melancholy world is a great 2D showcase for your fancy screen. (Doubly so if you have a new Xbox Series or PC, 120fps Hollow Knight controls very well). I am always impressed that Team Cherry was only 4 people when they put this game together given how vast the world is and how complete everything feels. It's one of my all time favorites, and I can't wait for Silksong!

This is one of those games I really appreciated rather than loved. I did love the art style, the haunting yet amniotic atmosphere, and the precision of the combat. It was harsh but fair. I probably got a small taste of what dark souls fans always bang on about when defeating some of the bosses. However, I'm not the most the patient when it comes to challenging games. I remember, after one death too many, the switch controller unwittingly flying out of my hands and smashing a vase on the other side of the room - my girlfriend looking on with a mixture of shock and bemusement. Beyond the odd grumble here and there, I usually show more restraint and have not thrown a control pad in vain since childhood. (side note - the vase was cheap and I didn't like it anyway) I think the reason I drifted from hollow knight about half way through was just getting lost and having to wander around aimlessly fighting the same enemies, as well as not having the patience to untangle any walkthroughs to find where to go next. Sacrilege to some fans I'm sure, but I think super Metroid was the only metroidvania I'd played so was probably inexperience on my part. I've since played and enjoyed the 2nd Ori game so perhaps I should give this another try.

As a huge Metroidvania fan and Hollow Knight appearing as number 1 in many ‘best of’ lists I was keen to play this one. Unfortunately I really didn’t get on with this game. I can’t remember a time where my opinion has been the polar opposite to what seems like everyone else’s. My first impressions of the game were good with its strong art direction and fantastic dark atmosphere. Accompanied with an incredible melancholy score I was 100% into it. However, it didn’t take long for me to start getting frustrated by some of the design choices. In the interest of time I will just list some of them out * Running animation is a bit weak and the basic traversal is not fun. * Knock back on hitting enemies is just annoying. Especially on some bosses which require pixel perfect execution * I need to buy maps? Ok, but kinda annoying. Additionally, I can’t see myself on set map without a charm * Boss fights have no health bar. Not a fan of this approach in general but some of the bosses in this game are massive damage sponges * Although I like the art direction and atmosphere I did find the majority of the areas look very similar. Combine this with the aforementioned map issues I found navigation more difficult than I would have liked * The game length is way to long in my opinion, Especially for a Metroidvania game. Additionally, the hoops you would be required to get 100% or 112% is bonkers The point I guess am trying to make is all these small design decisions could easily of been addressed without effecting the games own identity. With these small quality of life changes I might have gotten on with the game better. Am sorry I have been down on the game and I prefer to be positive about games but I felt I had to share my experience with the game. Am glad it’s found a massive audience and done well for the team, but it’s just not for me. (I did grudging finish it btw) Gingertastic01
