Here's where you can contribute your thoughts and opinions for Kingdom Hearts / Kingdom Hearts HD I.5 ReMIX for potential inclusion in the forthcoming podcast.A friendly reminder that where the feedback for the podcast is concerned, we love it - but keeping it brief is appreciated. We do want to include a breadth of opinions where appropriate, but no-one wants a discussion podcast that’s mostly reading out essays. Better to save yourself time and cut to the chase if you can.

The moment where everyone and everything leaves you at Hollow Bastion and the standout track of the OST kicks in is a moment that stands out to me still to this day. I've not really spent too much time with the series after the disappointing (to me!) second outing, but I remember this being one of the standout games of the PS2 era to me, and one of the few games that I ever 100 per cented (yes, even juggling the mushroom heartless in Halloween Town!). It did a surprisingly competent job of translating Disney worlds into a playable 3d environment for the first time, with a strong vocal cast and a gameplay loop that despite it's obvious flaws really dug it's claws into me (let's not talk about the platforming though!) and it was the game I happily lost a whole summer break from school to.

I’m coming to this game with no nostalgia having just played it last month on original hardware and have no history with the series. I found it a mediocre experience mainly buoyed by the Disney IP that it doesn’t fumble. I wasn’t too frustrated by any of the actions or mechanics. They just lacked any weight or satisfaction to perform. It wasn’t until the second Riku fight that I really had to focus on the combat mechanics and that ended up being my favorite fight. Overall it has that feel that other JRPGs of this era have that tried to include more action mechanics. It feels clunky, less polished, and in my mind I cut it some slack because it is an RPG and not an actual platformer or action game. I will say the most satisfying part is having all those colorful balls explode out of an enemy on the final hit. The story does its job of moving us to new Disney locations but lacks any interest beyond that. The three characters of Sora, Riku, and Kairi have no real memorable character traits or arcs but luckily the Disney characters bring all their charm to make up for it. The villains in particular are well utilized with Jafar, Ursula, and Captain Hook all being memorable and well voiced. I’m a Final Fantasy fan but the inclusion of those characters didn’t do much for me compared to the Disney ones. And, I think those character models look worse than the originals, like cheap knock offs, but I can imagine in 2002 it was fun to see Cloud on a PS2. One final thought, the Gummi Ship stuff is truly terrible. I kept waiting for it to evolve or indicate what I was supposed to do with all the pickups in the levels. Granted I only spent 5 min in the design module before I got confused and gave up so I assume there is more there? But the levels I had to complete required nothing beyond the base build (thankfully) so I had no motivation to engage in any modifications. Also the visuals on the gummi ship levels are mind blowing in that they are bland and chaotic at the same time. A rainbow vomit of random polygons.

What convinced me to finally buy and play this game (on the remastered PS4 remix version) was a video I saw showing some platforming segments in the Hollow Bastion level. As a huge fan of 3D platformers, I thought it looked fun. Of course, the amount of platforming in this game is minimal, yet I was quickly drawn in anyway by the stories and the surprise of discovering new Disney worlds. I loved the anticipation of wondering what Disney property the characters would be thrust into next. The game became one of my favorites and I have since played through all of them, even the mediocre DS games.
