Perfect timing, just off out! Also, I know it's bad form to ask for stuff, but do you know when the Saturn Console special might be coming? I tried to have a look on the forum but the thread wasn't in the folder any more and I was worried I'd missed the podcast somehow (but didn't see it in my feed so guessing not!) Thanks :) XOXOXOX

Jay, if its not too much bother could you add section time stamps to the podcast (as seen elsewhere). So then we can skip sections due to spolers/lack of interest. I'll skip Elden Ring but NEVER rice cooker chat, but to each their own

Elden Ring has been a weird one for me. I’ve played them all, from Demon’s to Sekiro, I loved them all. Elden Ring I put down after about 50 hours, I likely won’t even bother finishing it. It never gripped me once. It’s just… boring. I must be in the vast minority. But that’s alright!

Tolkientaters

This podcast came out right after I platinumed Elden Ring, which makes it a more interesting to listen to. I was surprised to hear Jay struggled with Rykard, I thought he was one of the easier bosses, but I guess that just shows how different the expirences can be for everyone.

Think the panic over kids watching Squid Game is a bit much. It's not really any more extreme than something like The Hunger Games or Battle Royale - which are admittedly aimed at teens rather than younger kids but I'm sure lots of young kids stole their siblings' copies of The Hunger Games. Although I am admittedly biased because I watched/read a lot of unsuitable stuff as a primary school kid: Buffy, horror films, South Park, The Matrix, Stephen King, The Beach, John Wyndham etc etc. However, I was eventually banned from watching The X-Files by my mum because the tree monster episode gave me nightmares. I was still allowed to get a Scully haircut at the hairdressers, though! The funniest thing is some schools apparently banning kids from playing Squid Game games in the playground, when the entire gimmick of that show is adults playing harmless children's games where the consequence for losing is death. As long as the kids playing Red Light Green Light don't have a giant android who shoots bullets, it's probably fine. I've only played two and a half FromSoft games and find Elden Ring much easier than Bloodborne and Sekiro. There are lots of modifications to play you can use to make the game easier. In Bloodborne or Sekiro if I got stuck I just had to keep trying until I broke through (...or in the case of Sekiro, give up entirely). Need to catch up on the Cane and Rinse video game episodes as Joshua Garrity of this parish got me into a (rival?) British horror podcast and I've been bingeing that. Very sorry and will repent and rejoin the Cane and Rinse congregation asap.

[Jay] Curious as to what your build is, since Rykard felt like he could be easier if you have a decent amount of FP, whereas I don't (started with 10, only upgrading to 12 so as to use a particular summons) so he kept catching me out when I had to replenish using a certain item (no spoilers) when fighting him. That said, when I say struggle I'm talking half a dozen attempts before I called for backup and then it was the second person who helped me (the first being the village idiot it seemed) which made that fight incredibly easy.

Excellent Elden Ring chat lads. I’m just doing a first play through of Dark Souls at the moment personally. Currently In the Duke’s Archives and having a lovely time. Look forward to playing Elden Ring in the future!

Really enjoyed the Elden Ring chat this month. I hardly ever buy 'new' games, so it's a rare treat to be able to feel like part of the conversation contemporaneously! FYI, Dark Souls 1 did have a proper DLC, it was Artorias of the Abyss.

I share a similar opinion to Leon on Alien 3 - I have a soft spot for it and think its a solid standalone Alien film that has that enjoyably grimey Fincher aesthetic you would see in Seven and Fight Club. I even like the predominantly English cast that distinguishes it from most sci fis. Saw the 'assembly cut' recently and the additional scenes do improve the narrative I would say. I think its main problem is it doesn't work very well as part of a trilogy, being such a depressing change of tone, and it doesn't help that it has to follow 2 of the greatest films ever made!

Woah, King's man is out on D+? Thanks for the info! There's COVID obviously, but I've had to make the decision of going to see movies or putting studying first for the past 6+ months. I'll sub back to D+ when Moon Knight finishes, to catch those and proud family 2.0 As a warcraft fan, I enjoyed the warcraft movie. I even swelled up to almost tears. I actually never found what people's "complaints" were, however valid they were. But regardless, video game movies have come a long way, so seeing a sequel/new one would be great. Under Microsoft and not Bobby "I slowed down overwatch 2 development" Kotick. I still stand by Wreck-It Ralph is the best video game movie. PS: Blizzard games' stories aren't all that top tier. It's really just tropes, which is why I think Blizzard needs to be VERY careful about actually constructing what's sure to be their overwatch narrative. Also, good to hear your takes on the Halo show - I've heard murmurings of disappointment, and Jay seems like a fairly hard nosed but fair critic when it comes to things, so I think I'll be enjoying it based off that

Tolkientaters

I had a quality build, but didn't really use a lot of FP, the basic attacks of said item did enough damage at range without using FP to win the fight. I think it scaled with strength which I had a decent amount of.

The Blood Shed

I know I'm a bit late here but a quick comment on Alien Covenant... Leon said the twist of the android at the end being David and not the other American accented one was way too obvious and a lot of people said this at the time but I feel what Ridley Scott was going for was dramatic irony. It was intentionally obvious to the audience that it was David so that we knew the danger the remaining characters were in without them knowing themselves. I think it adds something slightly different than your typical twist.
