The 32-bit SEGA Saturn is the subject of our latest single platform special. Leon, Chris, Karl, Michiel and community correspondents share their experiences, opinions and memories of SEGA's penultimate console. As usual we dive into the machine's technical achievements and shortcomings, as well as its accessories, peripherals and - of course - the fabulous treasure trove that is its library of games.Console Special No.15 was edited by Jay Taylor

To have a very late update on this, I just ordered my own Saturn!

Woohoo! Wish I still had my Saturn, but let's be honest I don't have time to play everything I want to on Gamepass, let alone go back to old stuff like this these days. Still, I could look at it and dream.

You guys just reminded me that I picked up Guardian Heroes a while back on sale and haven’t gotten to it yet. What little I played at the time made it clear it would be an adjustment for someone like me who is used to games like Final Fight, Double Dragon, Streets of Rage and the TMNT beat’em ups.

Excited to listen to this! The Saturn was a grower for me, it took about 20 years before I discovered what a great 'arcade in the home' experience it was, at least in japan anyway.

This is great so far! I was inspired to download Guardian Heroes for the Saturn to try to play on an emulator, until I realised it had been re-released as part of XBLA and is backwards compatible AND costs less than £3.50 to buy - so I got that one!

Alex79

Ok just just got to the bit where you say it's available for Xbox now 😆

Great episode guys👏 Those arcade shmups on the Saturn pumped out a 240p on a CRT is hard to compete with, outside having the arcade boards.

Michiel Kroder

100% agree. Something like Darius Gaiden looks so much better at its native resolution than upscaled on PS2 Taito Legends 2.

For some reason after I listened to this podcast I got really into emulating Dreamcast. Not sure what that's all about.

A great summary of what is still, in my opinion, the most underrated console of all time. While it was great to hear the positivity from the panel and the acceptance that many games on this system have aged well, the fact that most of you hadn't even owned one during its lifespan shows just how overlooked it was. Sure, everyone was wowed by the "cool older brother" PlayStation because it did drugs and went to clubs, but more and more people are realising just how wrong they were to pass up on Sega's best console. It's just a shame they didn't come to this conclusion sooner to help save the machine from an unnecessary early death.

A wonderful episode gentlemen, probably my favourite of the single format specials so far. Brilliantly researched and a great panel. A good single format special will have me going back to the system covered. I am proud to say that my Saturn is sitting in front of me!
