Here's where you can contribute your thoughts and opinions for Metroid Fusion for potential inclusion in the forthcoming podcast.A friendly reminder that where the feedback for the podcast is concerned, we love it - but keeping it brief is appreciated. We do want to include a breadth of opinions where appropriate, but no-one wants a discussion podcast that’s mostly reading out essays. Better to save yourself time and cut to the chase if you can.

Metroid fusion was my introduction to 2D Metroid. I have many fond memories but my most distinct memory was of the SA-X and the many encounters you have with it before being equipped to deal with it. I don't think I've ever had a 2D game make me feel as underpowered and helpless. When you finally get the ice missiles and you need to escape from the SA-X, I felt so relieved. I especially loved that the only reason you escaped is because you were no longer in the heavy old suit and you could pull yourself up on a ledge, a skill the SA-X was unable to employ. While the game is often knocked for its linearity, I think the continual threat and presence of the SA-X helped to create a brilliant atmosphere that I felt was replicated with the EMMI in Metroid Dread.

Fusion is most hurt by when it came out. Super Metroid and Symphony of the Night were too close in memory. The revolutionary Metroid Prime also cast a long shadow over the game. Plus, the GBA SP wouldn't be out for another 6 months, and Circle of the Moon on the original dim screen had burned many an early adopter eager for hand held Metroid-vanias. In later years I have come to enjoy Fusion as a good though not truly great Metroid. It's more action focused gameplay showed a way forward for the series, much like Prime's first person perspective. And everything with the SA-X is up there with the best of the series.

The Game Boy Advance is dear to me and Fusion is one of the best games on the GBA. That’s mainly due to it being a portable Super Metroid but that was an awesome thing in 2002 and should be celebrated. It also does some iteration, my favorite being the ledge grab which makes this Samus feel even better to control. It still looks pleasing today and the color palette with Samus’ turquoise and pink is distinct to this game and memorable. I replay this every few years and it still holds up and gives me an excuse to use my much loved Game Boy Micro 😃
