Whaddya mean it's late? Listen, if you want something to blame you can look no further than Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty! Anyway, talk was talked and a simple pork Katsudon is the best (unless you're a vegetarian/vegan)!Enjoy!

Great episode gentlemen. If you want some top teir Japanese-engrish signs, seek out the_moje_official (ministry of Japanese English) on Instagram. There are some absolute corkers in there such as 'please cooperate with judgement' or 'do not touch anyone - except the staff'

Loved the pod, but on The Last of Us show which I did enjoy, I didn't really mind the show having less action mostly because I thought the action setpiece in episode 5 was basically the worst part of the show and failed to maintain the tone that the rest of the series had. Also I would've appreciated them cutting out some of the very on the nose, this is the point dialog which just felt unnecessary.

Great to listen to Jay's Japan trip. Like him I was also baffled but intrigued by the arcade card games when I went into an arcade. It looks like great fun, but definitely something beyond me, even without the language barrier. A lot of the arcades are samey with a set range of claw machines, rhythm games, gundam games and card games, but you can often find a row of classics hidden at the back of a higher floor. I hadn't seen an AvP machine in the wild for about 22 years and I was overjoyed to stumble across one. I'm not really into the rhythm stuff; but I'm often drawn to one called Nostalgia, which is a piano-based game that lacks the bells and whistles of the newer ones and you can get 15 minutes of solid entertainment for 100 yen. The food is great and super cheap. Even fast food here is beyond what you get back home and about half the price. My current obsession is trying a new onigiri every lunch time and I'm yet to find a bad one. I haven't tried a Mister Donut yet as I'm guessing it'll become a new addiction and I'm a little poor right now, but I'll give it a go once my first proper payment comes in. I'm mostly living off ramen and cup noodles at the moment, which make a mockery of the bland offerings you get back home. And melon Fanta, which is the best thing I've ever had in my mouth.

I’ve heard Leon say he thinks Game Pass is a better proposition than PS Plus a few times now, and I’m curious why he thinks this. I’d go hard the other way tbh. There’s genuine AAA desirable games on PS Plus Extra imo, you could comfortably get by with just that subscription and a digital PS5 I think. You’d be playing Spider-Man, Death Stranding, Returnal, Demons Souls, GoW, SotC…just on and on for me. XBOX after all their seemingly good intentions are still back where the always are unfortunately imo, you’d really want to like Halo and Forza and hope for the occasional Hi-Fi Rush :(

Mushy peas are only good with battered fish? Pie peas chips and gravy want a word Jay 👊.

Cane and Rinse

I subscribe to both, but Game Pass has a much wider array of legacy and highly rated indie titles, many of which are day one on Game Pass. I'm generally less interested in AAA type stuff on these services than I am the well-reviewed but more niche stuff. Game Pass is miles ahead of PS+ in this regard right now imo. Plus as an Ultimate sub you get all the EA stuff too. Honestly, Halo and Forza are just a drop in the absolute well of depth and quality on the service. As with the 'which console' discussion though, it depends on what you like to play (Leon).

Loved this monthly episode. Always a real treat. Also, having first played it near release 26 years ago, I’ve finally managed to complete Final Fantasy 7. Maybe my most started but never finished game.

Also, to revive an old show feature, I bought my first rice cooker. Unfortunately my story isn't the months long epic Jay gave us, simply just bought the cheapest one they had in Book Off.

Konnichiwa! It was really interesting listening to Jay's report on his trip to Japan. I'm not sure I ever will, but I'd love to go some day. I just wondered, do you speak Japanese, Jay? Obviously we know your partner is Japanese and you visit there frequently, I wondered how much of the language you've managed to pick up. I've been trying to learn for around six months now, and whilst I wouldn't say it's 'easy', it's certainly not as difficult as I thought it would be, and learning all the Hiragana and Katakana hasn't been too tricky either (although I've not made a start on any Kanji yet!). I'm really enjoying learning a language that realistically I may never even get an opportunity to use out loud! Anyway, thanks for the show, great as always. Ja ne!

Random question. Back in 2012 Jay left the podcast. Then he made a triumphant return! What happened? Curious minds need to know...

Magnus Berg

Leon just casually ruining Skyrim music 🤥🥲

Cane and Rinse

I'd argue that was the music's composer, rather than me (Leon).

Magnus Berg

It’s quite interesting actually. Often with controversial individuals, finding out about these things from YouTube comments happens whether you go looking for it or not. However, I’ve never seen anything mentioned under a video with Skyrim music, despite having probably listened to hundreds of hours of it while working, etc. Just an observation.

Magnus Berg

Oh, this is certainly just a case of my own ignorance, and just to be clear, my initial comment was meant as a light-hearted jab at that, moreso than at yourself :)

Cane and Rinse

Of course! Just a sad story. I hope his (alleged) victims are doing OK.

Alex79

I don't remember this happening at all! Which is absolutely not to say it didn't happen 😆

Luke Scriven

That’s the thing, I didn’t remember either, and yet it did happen! Check the Alice:Madness Returns episode for the proof. This whole incident has secured my belief in the Mandela effect, and I know now that I’m in an alternate timeline where Jay spent 2012 as a backup singer in his Mrs’ band…

Ben McSkelly

Just got back from Arcade club in Bury, such a great time (bishi bashi in person so much fun). Thanks Jay, never would have knew about it if not for this C&R monthly

Ben McSkelly

It was 2012, the world was ending so why do a podcast?

Luke Scriven

That must be right, Jay went to Chichen Itza to await the end times

Steve Norman

Sorry, I’ve not been very engaged here or on the forum recently but just wanted to say thanks for the the ongoing hours and hours of entertainment, and especially for the Star Wars episode. I didn’t get to play many arcade games as a kid but I’ll always remember the thrill of getting into that sit-down cabinet when the travelling funfair came to town. As far as I was concerned I was in an X-Wing at the climax of my favourite film and it will always be magical to me for that!

Stephen

I concur! Mushy peas go well with many a dish! They are a staple with a Sunday roast in many an Irish home

Stephen

I find this discussion really intriguing. I am a late adopter on the new generation - likely going to end up with a PS5 in the coming months, for a couple of platform exclusives but have little desire to upgrade my current PSN subscription to whatever their equivalent to Gamepass is. I was recently playing my brothers Xbox Series S and was just blown away by the legacy content and indies available, so I am deeply tempted to pick up a Series S potentially as well… Truly the life of a gamer is hard.

Conor O'Brien

Yeah, I think it's largely personal of course. I had an Xbox1 for a long time and only briefly a PS4 so there's simply more games I want to/haven't played under Sony's offering probably. However, not to labour the point - I do wonder how popular Game Pass would be if it was only available at the actual RRP, which isn't really *that*cheap - certainly compared to the circa 3e a month Microsoft seem happy for people to be able to get long subscriptions for! I think Phil Spencer has been *very* gamer friendly (although maybe they simply had to be) but with Microsoft seemingly cutting back in lots of areas I do think he could be scrutinised a lot more closely unfortunately. It's almost like Xbox is a loss leader for them or something, keeps their name in gaming and so that knocks on for the PC space etc but I just find them so unusual compared to the other companies. It's like their differentiation is that they have no differentiation, they are just A.N. Games Company! Absolutely no issue with it, just intrigues me also. Maybe they're such a behemoth all their divisions kind of become generic or something?? ^^Just waffling really, apologies! Enjoyed the show as always.
