Seattle didn’t invent grunge or coffee shops, but it certainly popularised them. Seattle's Mega Crit didn’t invent roguelike deck builders, but… you get the idea. James, Chris O'Regan, Jesse and Leah venture ever upwards to confront the Corrupted Heart and ultimately Slay the Spire.Music featured in this issue:1. The City by Clark Aboud2. This show was great and informative. It was interesting hearing everyone's experience with the game and made me want to play it again. And for that reason, I hate it. I'm not doing it to myself again. Leave me alone.

Meant to contribute on this one but got busy. Thank you guys for covering this. Love that Dominion was called out as a clear influence. Obviously my thoughts won't be read on the podcast as it's already recorded....But I just wanted to say I really love this game. I love analytical thinking--both strategic and tactical--and I think this game has an almost perfect mix of the two. Between the characters, the apparent auto-balancing that happens during runs (read about this/heard the developers mention it in some interviews), relics, card offers, etc....There's just a beautiful mix here that just feels right. And it is one of the best games I've played that feels like a single player board game/card game, just like Dominion as mentioned. I've been playing the game on and off now for a few years...Always something new to learn. I just got two friends into it now and they're started down the rabbit hole. I recommend this one to anyone who like card games or board games. Can't wait for their next title! Thanks for covering and for the nice podcast!

Fantastic episode! :) Really enjoyed the influences speed round towards the end and the info around the mods. Had no idea you play through the game as the slime enemy, amazing! 😄 PS: I feel like no one gives Inscrpytion enough love when they mention it, what a banger that game is.

I may have undersold Inscryption: I think it's a fantastic game, one of the best of its year. But I do think it gets away with being a little looser with balance and strategic depth than the others because of its load-bearing place in the narrative, where it needs to break so that you can make it to the end. Which is not a problem in context: we all enjoy poisoning the moon. But in the same way that I think Hades is an S-tier game and an A-tier roguelite brawler, I think Inscryption is an S-tier game and an A-tier roguelike deckbuilder.
