Content

A response to this stupid-ass, dumb-ass, dipshit-ass post on reddit where somebody qualifies the cost of Sims 4 content...

Based on price PER MB? Are you fucking kidding me? The Size of a pack flucuates by the tens of MBs based on how many swatches any given item has. This is the DUMBEST fucking metric ANYONE could come up with to qualify the cost of Sims 4 content. Holy shit this is stupid.

Anyway, let's try PENNIES per item, a TANGIBLE METRIC that ACTUALLY MAKES SOME MODICUM OF SENSE as it is objective even if one does not care for the gameplay included!

Comfy Gamer- 16
Casanova Cave- 19
Secret Sanctuary- 19
Cozy Kitsch- 19
Sweet Slumber Party- 19
Artist Studio- 20
Storybook Nursery- 20
Cozy Bistro- 19
Riviera Retreat- 19
Party Essentials- 19
Urban Homage- 17
Castle Estate- 19
Goth Galore- 20
Modern Luxe- 17
Poolside Splash- 17
CRYSTAL CREATIONS- 8! PLUS GAMEPLAY!
HOME CHEF HUSTLE- 14! PLUS GAMEPLAY!
PARANORMAL- 13! PLUS GAMEPLAY!
LIFE AND DEATH- 11! PLUS GAMEPLAY! AND DEBUG!
LOVESTRUCK- 12! PLUS GAMEPLAY! AND DEBUG!

SHIT AIN'T GETTING MORE EXPENSIVE

Snowy Escape would be 12! Cottage Living would be 13! These prices have not increased! And the content has only been getting richer! The only time the price-per-item gets lower is with earlier packs which had arguably less gameplay depth and somewhat inflated item counts due to being the first few packs and needing more to function, and the metric becomes less fair and consistent when you go from Get to Work needing 3 jobs worth of items and clothing to more rigidly themed content, plus accounting for modern content coming with dramatically more swatches anyway. Accounting for inflation, content has gotten cheaper in general, as expansions today should be 53 dollars to be the same price as expansions then!

Meanwhile, if we look at the first stuff packs and compare to Paranormal (13) and Crystal Creations (8), shit like Cool Kitchen and Luxury Party are a whopping 20 cents an item!

Stuff packs have only gotten cheaper! Kits have not changed at all, and any change is within such a miniscule margin of error you can make up the cost by reaching into your couch.

Quantifying prices based on file size is ABSOLUTELY INSANE. Not even getting into how file sizes may well be lower now due to increased optimization! It's a ten year old game! They've surely increased optimization! Are you mad!?

ARE YOU PEOPLE MAD?!

THIS IS QUITE POSSIBLY THE DUMBEST FUCKING THING IVE EVER SEEN ANYONE SAY ABOUT SIMS CONTENT PRICES

HERE'S A 7.5MB SCRENSHOT OF CRAPPY CGI FROM AN EARLY SPONGEBOB EPISODE. IF I CHARGED YOU 8 CENTS FOR THIS IT WOULD BE CHEAPER PER MB THAN A SIMS 4 PACK. DOES THAT MAKE IT A BETTER VALUE?! I WILL EAT YOUR FUCKING SHOES

Sometimes I think people just want to complain :/ Is EA greedy? Yes, but most companies are. But the sims team honestly has been listening to the community, and the team who are working on bug fixes need to be paid, and as bg is free, the sims needs to release new content to get money

If only the admins didn't lock the post, would love to explain why they earned the downvote for being idiots.

i don't know if i would consider kits as content though ... i get they are for non-cc users but as a cc user, it's lackluster. i wish they would make some revolutionary decisions for the gameplay.

velour

I really don't get the complaining about kits either tbh. Because if you don't like them.. don't buy them!! And tbh the kits are usually cute as heck!!

Please don't eat shoes. They are smelly, low nutrional value, and NOT a good cost to dinner plate ratio *snickers*

CodeBleu

Welcome to a cross-over episode of CodeBleu Explains It All, if "It All" refers to contending with one's urge to resort to pica in response to Reddit. - Shoes are toxic. Shoes are made from materials like leather, rubber, plastic, and fabric that are not meant for human consumption. These materials can be toxic or cause choking. - Shoes are poisonous. Shoes often contain chemicals such as dyes, adhesives, and waterproofing agents, which are harmful and may lead to poisoning if ingested. - Shoes (as food) can injure you. Shoes may have sharp parts like nails, metal eyelets, or rigid soles, which can cause injury to your mouth, throat, or digestive tract. - Shoes are unhygienic. Shoes are exposed to dirt, bacteria, and potentially harmful substances from the ground. Eating them could lead to infections or illness. - Shoes are ill-suited to human (or purple reindeer furry) digestion. Consuming them could result in blockages, severe pain, or even require surgical intervention.

This popped into my inbox so I needed to come here to say that you, Waffle, are a delight. I literally just listened to NotMalcolm ranting about how 91 DLC is a bit much on YouTube yesterday. I agree that it would be great for EA to iron out most of these bugs - some of which have been around for x years - but I truly think EA is on a good path with the Sims. The arrival of competition will only make them better, in my opinion. Maybe we should just let them do their thing, and as someone mentioned here, if you don't want to buy the kits, just don't buy them. Seems pretty logical to me.

It might just be a Danish thing but I am pretty sure that Sims 3 EPs were more than 10 $ more expensive than sims 4 EPs and Sims 4 kits cost less than the large Sims 3 store sets.

waffle_mix_ins

Kits have around the same amount of items as a standard Sims 3 Store set for roughtly 25% the cost, yes. Sims 3 store sets are the least reasonably priced content in the series by a massive, massive margin

Childless Cat Lady (and proud of it!)

"i don't know if i would consider kits as content though ... i get they are for non-cc users but as a cc user, it's lackluster." I can *kinda* see where you're coming from, but to say that the kits are for vanilla players (i.e no CC) only isn't quite true. I use A LOT of CC/mods in my game, but also have a few of the kits as well. I think it's more accurate to say that the kits are for all players, no matter if they use CC or prefer vanilla.

we are closing in on dlc #100 with base game still being barebones after 10+ years of sims 4 ... it's not a good look for the future of this game

Kanade Uzuki

I wish the Sims 3 store would be shut down and all content bundled into an affordable $20 or so. Continuing to do highway robbery on an old game is ridiculous.

DaLeMoNHeaD

You realize the base game has been FREE for a while, right? And how exactly is it barebones?

DaLeMoNHeaD

Honestly, I don't think EA is particularly greedy. Your average mobile game makes you spend in a month what we spend on TS4 DLC in a year.

The "McFucking Lose it" made me lose it! ROFL! My brother has a friend who went there and asked for Mc everything. When told he didn't have to say Mc every time his friend told them, "Aw! McFuck you!" and left. As for price, if you don't want it, don't buy it. When choosing a pack, kit, or game, I look at the price in terms of, "Am I going to have fun with this? Will I use certain items that are included? Well, yeah, just that one." I don't have every kit and stuff pack (mainly bc the wardrobe choices were nothing I would even want to see on the street) but I have the ones I thought would enhance my gameplay.

Josh King

I think EA has backed off their real greedy behavior after new SWBF2, the sims is one of the least offenders of corporate greed ruining gaming.

it just became free since last year about the end of the summer ..... i paid for the original price and i have most of the packs. and, I've played previous sim games in the past since sims 2. the games from the past were innovative for its time since lifesims weren't really a thing! now since sims is at the head of the table for life sims and even more so with sims 4, i am not understanding why they won't expand on that. it's just more kits with really disappointing items and broken expansion packs that they aren't in a hurry to fix. it's just not a good look that they won't improvise or build upon their base game when they have such a vast canvas to do new things on. and, i'm sorry, waffle. i peeped the information section. a lot of the "new ideas" that sims have released are either inspired by modders or came from previous sims games before they added it to s4 or just a regular idea, not something really affecting the gameplay. i love this game very much, but it saddens me how EA refuses to do something new and bleeds the fandom for cash.

Who Knows

I think the amount of packs is excessive but what else can they do when people are constantly asking for more content??? I mean yeah I'd prefer them fixing the bugs first too but I think EA responds to what is *truly* in demand and/or will be well received (even with all the complaints people are still eating those packs up like they're candy lol) PS: I've tried eating slippers before its not recommended.

lookinpresh

Actually, it became free October 18, 2022. You probably paid original price quite a while ago. As for innovation, we got a new life state in infants, eco-friendly gameplay in multiple packs (Island Living, Eco Lifestyle, Laundry Day), Life and Death's Soul's Journey and more. A lot of improvements have been in quality of life, and that's one of the first things that everyone forgets. Free placing windows and doors? Items not locked to the grid? Functional quarter-tile placement? Sims multitasking? The dim lights from base game on launch (The Super Subtle Saucer Light is like water to me, can't live without it)? Past games could never. Shouldn't they be taking inspiration from modders? Modders are just making things that they and others would like to see in game. Now everyone can have it, regardless of platform. Not to mention, the droves of Simmers asking for almost every single feature that they like from past Sims games.
