When Kenner was releasing STAR WARS vehicles back in the 70s and 80s, they sometimes included electronic sound effects to simulate ship engines, blasters and cannons. RFR V.I.P Joe Dallas returns with another Top 10 list featuring the sounds of those iconic vintage toys. It's a fun quiz that you can play along with while listening! Plus, THE BAD BATCH, Darth Maul's teeth and more!

As soon as I saw what this episode was about my first thought was this sounds like a Joe Dallas episode haha

Justin Harrell

Hey Jimmy, you can do the teeth thing with a Darth Maul cutout like you do for Qui-Gon. At last you will have revenge!

Jeff Ulicny

Plan on it. I'd like to do 5 total but only have 2 arrangements so far. I'll reach out when I have more details. Might be a couple months, I'm buried in other projects right now - but may reach out to you for some bass in one of them. Up for an AC/DC parody?

Bob Igor has a big M(oron) count! great job as always Joe and how far have toy sounds come! If I heard those vintage sounds without context I would have thought they were random noises and not Star Wars sounds!

Matt Rashid

That was delightful. All the Joe Dallas shows are delightful!

Great show! Joe Dallas #1!! 🏆

Turtle Wars

It’s always fun listening to a Joe Dallas Q&A! I managed to get 6 out of 10, which really surprised me considering I haven’t really paid attention to these sounds in many years. Some of your hints definitely helped with some though.

On yet another rainy and unseasonably cold Maryland day, this Q&A made it a sunny Thursday. I felt as if I was on Joe’s 2 x 2 mile island in the Keys. A pleasure from start to finish. Thank you!

I love the uniqueness of this one. My guessing game would definitely be worse than Jimmy Mac's, and I have several of those vehicles. You never fail to deliver Joe!

Another great conversation! I loved the Mythbusters 5 second rule episode and was shocked to find out a toilet seat was one of the cleanest surfaces. Yuck! The troop transport was the gold standard for sounds of all Kenner vehicles. I loved playing with that and using all of the sounds. I feel pretty good on my success rate guessing sounds when I didn't have an At-At, Falcon or y-wing when I was a kid. The Sears Imperial Transport didn't have sounds and I believe the whole interior was empty. I didn't have it but I remember learning about this through a YouTube video.

Joe Dallas

Oh - my transport does have the sounds - maybe I got it at Children’s Palace!

Scott St. Louis

Great flashback Joe, I haven’t heard those sounds in decades! Glad I didn’t have to find C-batteries for my Millennium Falcon )that was always the hardest) Top notch show as always.

Dylan McGee

Joe Dallas brought game this episode! One of the best Q&As ever!!!

Brill podcast. I am not sure I would have got any with any degree of certainty without the clues. But the no 1 sound from that pod is Joe Dallas’ laughter. The guy is a proper Geeza! Lovely listen chaps

Todd Stewart

Joe and Jimmy, I just finished 199. I can’t decide of your top 10 is brilliant or ridiculous. Even with so many similar sounds - because they all used the same motor - I got 5 right (thanks in part to Joe’s clues) and probably would have had 6 if Jimmy hadn’t answered #2 so quickly. I might get all my toys out to see if they sound the same.

Regarding SW Jazz: For me, nothing has ever topped "Sketches on Star Wars" (1997) by The Trotter Trio. Stripped down, soft, melodic, a lot of it moody...it's the perfect SW background music for reading or just looking out the window on a rainy day. Whole album is on YouTube, though the quality is much poorer than what you'll find on an actual CD. Used copies can easily be found around the internets for about $6. If you like instrumentals, I give this one my highest recommendation!

Ben P. Stein

Crazy coincidence: I was just listening to a new interview with John Jackson Miller, whose new SW novel (the Living Force) I am listening to right now. Much of the action takes place in the islands of the planet Kwenn, which Miller named “keys.” He was inspired to do so as he was flying over Key West and saw all the islands and highways that you and Jimmy were talking about!

Joe Dallas

That is very cool- can’t wait to read/listen to it. Great to hear from you Ben!

Ben P. Stein

I just started it and I think I’m going to enjoy it. Qui-Gon is the central character and he, Obi Wan and the Jedi Council we know and love (or at least try to love :-)) are all in it.

Ben P. Stein

Great! I hope you enjoy it. The map is included in the audiobook as a PDF and apparently there is a color version in a special edition of the book.

Joe Dallas

Yes - I got the PDF in black and white - it was included with the audio book. So cool!

MrPickles

Nice! That's my fav of the album as well. ("Han Solo & The Princess", 2nd.)
