We interrupt regular programming to mourn the loss of a truly legitimate Star Wars icon. The man behind the mask of the legendary Chewbacca, the great Peter Mayhew has passed away. We reflect on Peter's career, his relationship with the fanbase, and his love of Chewie. We share memories of times we shared with the man both on the airwaves, and off, and remember him for his contributions to the Star Wars galaxy. Plus, highlights of Peter's many appearances on our show over the years which will be sure to invoke fond thoughts of Peter's personality and life.

The regular weekly RFR will launch over the weekend. But for now, take a moment with us to celebrate Peter Mayhew, a Star Wars legend.

I'm going to have to listen to all of these at home. I can't do any more crying in public - I did way too much of that yesterday. 💔

Yeah, I had to wait it out in the grocery store parking lot after I loaded my groceries. It's a good thing I hadn't seen the first post while I was in the store.

Jared Cantor

Thanks RFR. No one better to remember him than you guys, and your back catalog of interviews with him are truly precious now.

John Riley

What got me was hearing the part with Angie.

Scott Armstrong

Incredibly sad. Now it's time to celebrate his life. Rest in peace, Peter. You will be missed.

I've been at work listening to all the interviews. Can't say I could help myself in public too well with the tears.... Hard to keep it under control. But had to listen asap. Thank you guys so very much for being who you are and getting to know him while you could. I'm sure I speak for all of us who couldn't meet him while we had the opportunity, but it's an honor to live somewhat vicariously through you guys. Thanks to Peter Mayhew for all the wonderful memories. Star Wars wouldn't be the same without you, and it won't be the same without you now. But you will continue to live on in our hearts and dreams.

Thank you guys. I didn’t realize how much Jimmy had had contact with Pete, I’m envious of the short amount of time you were able to spend with him. I’m feeling the loss and emotion you have now that he is gone. May the Force be with you on these dark days! He is one with the force and the force is strong with Chewy!

Blake Weaver

Thank you for doing this episode. It was great to hear those interviews. Jimmy did a fantastic job talking to our favorite big man. Although I had seen Peter Mayhew a few times in person I never got to meet him. It’s from interviews like this now I’ll get to know the man even though I never got to shake his hand.

Chris Hansford

Well said. I had the honor of meeting Chewie a couple times. And I’m grateful I got to know him, through the interviews that Jimmy and Jason had with him over the years.

Rebel Force Radio

Thanks Dave. I knew I was a lucky person during those years and I am happy he will live on through his legacy. These recordings are just a small sample of his contributions to Star Wars.

Thank you so much for posting all of these interviews with Peter. I had the pleasure of working his line a few years ago while volunteering for Official Pix in Anaheim. I got a chance to chat briefly with him before they let everyone in for the day. Peter was also one of the first Star Wars actors I had gotten an autograph of. At Celebration 2 it was him, Warrick, and Kenny that I was able to acquire. My mind was blown to say the least! When planning to attend Celebration Chicago I realized I had never gotten a photograph with Peter though after all these years of attending. Needless to say I purchased a photo op but sadly it was for Thursday, which was the only day that Peter had canceled for because he wasn't feeling well. I tried to swap for another day/time but he was completely booked for the rest of the con. I thought oh well maybe another time. Little did I know there wouldn't be a next time. I was so heartbroken to hear of his passing but so grateful for the memories I have of him, both as Chewie and as Peter. May he Rest in Peace!!
