Hey now! So happy to share this week's show with RFR Patreon Members FIRST!

It's STAR WARS DAY! We are back in the studio for May the Fourth with tons of STAR WARS news, opinion and conversation. Marvel’s AVENGERS ENDGAME is poised to become the all-time US box office champ, and will eventually claim the crown from STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. Do we care?  Jimmy Mac was there for the big Avengers opening weekend and he saw both the film and THE RISE OF SKYWALKER teaser trailer in IMAX. Mark Hamill came under heat on social media this week for posting a fan-made mashup photo of himself, Harrison, Carrie and Billy Dee in the cockpit of The Falcon. We give you our opinions of the fallout and feature audio highlights of a recent interview where Mark discusses his personal process of dealing with how Luke Skywalker has been portrayed in the Sequel Trilogy. Plus, we have John Boyega interview highlights about Episode IX at Star Wars Celebration Chicago, and we review “The Filoni Factor and The Ranch”, the latest episode of Sheldon Norton’s RFR documentary, WHEN THE GALAXY LISTENS. Look for the director’s cut this weekend on May The Fourth!

Jumping in now! May the 4th be with y'all!

May the Fourth be You Jason and Jimmy! Can't wait to listen to the show!

Wow. What an episode. I don't need therapy I tell my wife, I just need my weekly RFR episode. I also appreciate when old highlights are referenced and then posted because as a listener only since TFA premiered, I've missed so much good stuff (Jimmy at Lucas and the zombie crowds approaching, for example).

The egg heads on Twitter represent less than 2% of the population. I don’t care what anybody says on twitter. They are all losers.

This was a spectacular episode. Especially the 2nd half. Loved the insider stories and the way you guys discussed things in this one sounded like 2 guys drinkin beers. It was great and it had sum balls. I feel like both of you have been holding back a little on the new starwars opinions and in this one you didnt sugar coat it as much. Yet it came off in a very classy, interesting and enjoyable fashion. Best episode in awhile imo. I listened to this while making overtime pay at work so even though i was in a great mood becuz of that, this enhanced it even more. May the 4th blah blah go white sox

I have been a supporter of Rebel Force Radio since mid 2015, and a Patron supporter since mid last year. The main reason that I have been listening for the 4 years is directly related to the positivity surrounding the love of Star Wars. I have to say though, I'm getting a but weary of the "what could have been" negativity. After spending almost 20 minutes discussing yet another vocal fans displeasure with TLJ and deep diving into another negative "news" story about how we never got the original trilogy main characters together, I'm starting wonder what ever happened to enjoying the Star Wars we have instead of focusing on the Star Wars we don't. If I wanted to listen to people complain about how there head canon wasn't represented on screen, I would go back to social media. In the end, the guys have the right to express any opinion they want. But I feel it's been a while since the RFR I've grown to love over the last 4 years has focused on positivity.

I’m with you. I’m still a huge fan of the show and am glad I’m a supporter, but the sometimes negative tone of the show is really grating on me. I don’t mind critical analysis and obviously Jason and Jimmy have every right to express their unfiltered opinion, but it seems like Jason in particular looks at most new Star Wars with his arms crossed and a scowl on his face and sometimes that honestly bums me out. He’s openly disdainful of the books, video games, comics, TV shows, and current movies and as someone who enjoys all of that and turns to RFR to hear more about current Star Wars and celebrate my enthusiasm for it, sometimes the tone of the show is a real buzzkill for me. To my mind, it’s better to amplify fan enthusiasm than malcontent.

I obviously disagree with some of the more extreme reactions to Mark Hamill’s tweet, but I can honestly say I can understand where the reaction is coming from. Mark Hamill seems like a very nice guy and seems very personable and professional in a lot of ways, but I don’t think retweeting that photo is very professional at all. One of the first thing professional athletes learn as they are taught how to deal with the media is that they shouldn’t publicly throw their teammates under the bus. Keep it in-house and resolve it there; don’t openly air disagreements or disputes. In my opinion, openly criticizing the creative decisions of your teammates isn’t a “team move”. It’s not something you do as a pro or as a good teammate. Mark Hamill is paid to do his job as an actor and to promote the movie, not to do anti-promotion by publicly criticizing the work of his teammates. It’s not a good look.

I understand where your coming from but I like it when the guys offer honest opinions. That’s the great thing about the show and I defiantly don’t always agree with them.

Adam Duckro

I agree with All the above statements. I don't think Star Wars should be immune to criticism, or even impassioned analysis of fan theories or speculation. However, RFR has aways been my place to feel reenergized and excited about our Galaxy far far away, and I personally feel like more often than not lately, I end the episode with LESS excitement for what is to come from our beloved franchise than before I listened. Again, Jimmy and Jason have all the right to do with their show what they want, but ultimately I'm not so sure what their goal is in airing the negativity found on social media to their fan base. Remember, you're focus determines your reality. And the reality of the last few months has been pretty damn negative. On May the 4th, I was really looking forward to to some good fan discussion about where we are going with The Rise of Skywalker. Instead, I got more social media negativity poured all over what should have been a celebratory day. So....... Uh, anyone excited for The Rise of Skywalker? 😁

"Apologize" can also mean to make an explanation or defense of something, albeit a less common definition

Liotta Soda

I agree with Swank. It sounded like somewhat of an unofficial apology. Bad thing is Hamil kept it PC and didnt say what we all know he really originally felt by posting the pic. There’s a good reason why people discuss the “starwars that isn’t” as opposed to the “starwars that is”. Dont understand why people get upset about those convos, i love em

DanielA

Totally fine with Mark's tweet. He has a every right to say he misses his friends.

Timmy Barrow

Not as excited as I should be...but that has nothing to do with Jason and Jimmy. It has more to do with the preceding film.

Timmy Barrow

I just don't want the guys to sugarcoat things or be fake so we get that warm fuzzy feeling. I listen to them for honest takes. There are a bunch of star wars podcasts out there that do not dare be critical of anything. I personally feel you have to be true to yourself and your audience. If they feel like criticism is warranted...go for it. If not, they're just like everyone else.

Timmy Barrow

Man...that Billy Dee quote. So cool. So smooth. So Billy Dee.
