For anyone watching the discussions and debates online, this is a slippery slope of a topic. We would love to hear your hot takes on the Gina Carano situation via Voice Mail at 708-866-1737. Please try to avoid getting into the weeds about the actual content of her tweets...We'd like to hear if you think it is a good move to fire her and if she should be replaced. Should there be a new actress playing Cara in future episodes? Or should they just forget the character and move on? And what does this mean for Star Wars moving forward?  Give us a call!

Thank you guys for taking the time to officially address this topic. I was beginning to wonder if you guys were planning to weigh in or just avoid the controversy. Hope to have a healthy discussion this week as it affects us all whether we want to admit it or not. 👍🏼

Commander Bly

Gonna try to get a call in. This is a hot topic.

Antonio from NJ

She wasn't canceled. She was fired.... Chut chut and hey hey! Look forward to hearing you guys tackle this Just my opinion on this... Who would have guessed making inappropriate (and hyperbolic) statements that draw parallels between being a republican to being a Jewish person during Nazi Germany (as well as a history of consistently courting controversy) would have consequences. And let's make no mistake ... this is about $$$$, not morality. Disney and LF fired her because she became a problem, not because her views are problematic. I'm all for free speech but there is a reason even the 1st amendment has limitations. And lastly, this is what at will employment is all about. Used to work at Business Insider and saw people on the editorial side of the house let go because they made inappropriate comments on social media. I don't know... maybe we should just have better standards. Either way, hope she enjoys making a movie w Ben Shapiro.

Anthony Palm

I think I might skip this episode or at least this topic, I have no interest in talking or listening more about this, I’m already exhausted by people’s hot takes. Nothing against the show, just want to move on from this whole topic personally

Cole Ziegler

Disney is a private company and can do what it wants. I think what’s tiresome is the double standard though. Pedro Pascal has posted many Nazi comparisons on his Instagram etc but not a word from the woke left and Disney because he is on their side politically. Want to cancel everyone Disney? Fine. That’s dumb, but fine. But be consistent.

Adam Taylor

I won’t call in because I sound like Ozzy Osbourne when he’s tired, I’ll spare you the monotone midlander. I will say that people have said things about Nazi and Jewish people before in fandom and nothing was said because they have the ear of the aggressive left. But honestly Gina is not a good actor at all it’s almost astounding to me she got a role. So I’m happy Cara is gone as she bought down the quality of the other performances. She must know that talking on Twitter can get you fired, but she chose to anyway which makes me think her involvement in Star Wars was over a LONG time ago, and LFL were just doing her that service of not making it public, and she used this fiasco to make it look like she went out on HER TERMS. It’s a bit of a mess again in fandom. Can’t wait for the next project to launch so we can actually talk about Star Wars.

Jordan Hanson

I think based on conversation early on about her Star Wars journey being over had truth to it like Adam Taylor also said. Gina had become synonymous with Cara Dune and even if she was planned to be in later seasons stirring negative publicity alone could had gotten her removed. I think it’s good she isn’t being recasted. It opens up the options for characters in season three and will be richer for it. I am interested to see what the discussion is like. I honestly thought she was done after the anti-mask stuff and was gonna be killed off in the finale so I am really not too surprised.

Justin Harrell

The Mandalorian brought stability to Star Wars fandom after the sequel trilogy...then Disney went and threw it all away just like that. That balance didn’t last long.

Adam Marc Leonard

This is NOT a First Amendment issue. The 1A says CONGRESS shall not pass any law restricting speech, religion, freedom of assembly ... Disney is a private company (as in not part of the government, not discussing its stock bring traded publicly). So they are able to hire/fire their cast members/ employees/ actors as they choose. I'm sure all their actors contracts today have morality/social media clauses that allow the employer to jettison any employee that violates these clauses. The way the statement was worded, it sounds like her contract is over and not gonna be renewed. It's a shame. I enjoyed her character, and its too bad the person behind the character is complete trash, because if Gina could have avoided posting what she did, Disney was developing "Rangers of the New Republic" around Cara. I say do not recast Cara, but bring in new Rangers, since they would have needed more anyways for the Rangers spin-off series. And as to everyone saying this firing Gina is "socialism" or "communism", I disagree. People were discussing dropping Disney+ if Disney did not get rid of Gina. If you agree with the decision you can keep Disney+, and if you disagree with the decision, you can cancel Disney+. You are voting with your wallet, and if that is not pure capitalism, I dont know what is.

Rebel Force Radio

Unfortunately, this issue has reached such a new level of magnitude that we now have to stop talking about fun stuff and talk about this garbage. We cannot avoid it. Feel free to leave a voice mail expressing yourself.

Dominique Garant

I always made a difference between a performer and a performance. I still think House of Cards is a great show. I still enjoy Tom Cruise Movies, or Gwinnett in Iron Man. I still listen to Michael Jackson musique . I don’t like Gina. I do enjoy Cara Dun. Too bad we live in a time of social media and blurred lines. But then again, maybe artists and performers should learn to shut up. I like an actor’s acting and could not care less about their opinion on science or politics. As my father used to say:  « Having a platform does not mean you should use it »

Tyler Page

I hope this is a cathartic process for everyone involved

Ian savage

I got to throw my two cents in. Don’t do it. Just address it and move on. Love the show and this won’t change my listening. I just feel it will bring on the haters to cherry pick comments. I know you guys are smart enough. MTFBWY

Ian savage

I volunteer to run a round of trivia instead. 😉

Daniel Jobson

Trying to call in but I keep getting the busy signal every time

John Riley

This escalated quickly...

Brian Robinson

Just because people may have garbage views and can't keep opinions in check, it doesn't mean they are trash. I know I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, but the over generalization of people is what leads to lots of the division we're seeing today.

Brian Robinson

I can't get through, but I'll keep trying. I'll paste it here if I don't get through. It's middle of the road, not taking sides.

John Riley

Let me try to stay positive. I’ll say that Cara Dune (played by Gina) was probably the most interesting and likable character in The Mandalorian (aside from Baby Yoda of course). With great potential future arcs. Disney will lose $$ and fans with their decision here. I wish they didn’t feel the need to join the cancel mob that targeted her for destruction months ago. They are also splitting fandom precisely at a time when it was coming back together. This doesn’t reflect well on Disney keeping their focus on making the best Star Wars for fans.

Alan Wills

Don’t know exactly what she said, but if she breached her employer’s Code of Conduct then she should expect to be disciplined or sacked. I have found the filters on Twitter and it now does not show any tweets containing the word “carano” in my feed, as I try to avoid any negativity on my social media. Personally, I think they should just write out the character.

Brian Robinson

Can’t get through to leave a voice mail. I’ve been following Gina Carano since she was Crush on American Gladiators. Her appeal has always been that she is down to earth and always very nice to her fans and interviewers. I then watched her MMA career evolve on EliteXC all the way up to her final fight with Chris Cyborg. I’ve watched her in the MCU movies, but never watched Haywire yet, since I heard they dubbed over her voice for some strange reason, much like Ray Park in The Phantom Menace. I was very excited when she joined The Mandalorian and she has grown as an actor on the show. The cast and crew seem to love her and so do most fans. Her action figures were scarce, long before this news. She doesn’t deserve to be canceled, but she should also know when to keep her social media in check. That goes for Mark Hamill, Pedro Pascal, Star Wars Show people, and the others who work for Disney and Lucasfilm that constantly push their agendas online. When asked to tone it down from the bosses, they should tone it down. I hope she comes back, but right now, the character should just go away. Maybe a mention of her disappearing at a battle or maybe dying fighting gangs on Nevarro. I really hope she gets another chance in the future. I really wanted to meet her at Star Wars Celebration. Thanks guys...

Antonio from NJ

This is a great point. We all know company have these clauses in their contracts. Id be surprised if she didnt have one and if she wasnt in violtion of it.

Antonio from NJ

Look cant we all just agree on one thing... Pablo Hidalgo is a jerk :D also if you really feel the need to cancel your Disney+ account, you can share my account. NO FAN LEFT BEHIND

Antonio from NJ

Really like this reply even if we don't agree on some parts (aka political agenda on social media vs making historical inaccurate comparison) . But I cant agree more w you on the part... no one should be canceled for having a political opinion, etc. Where it gets tricky is the code of conduct clauses that contracts often have. IF they violate it, they violate it and will deal w the consequences. But no one should be targeted because their opinion differs from yours. Debate, but dont cancel them.

Rebel Force Radio

Just so you know...I will only open up the Voicemail for Patreon this time. So only you guys will have the opportunity to have your voices heard on this week's show. - JMac

Antonio from NJ

Thats a great way of saying it Jimmy! And no what is the Hasbro news? Let me guess they stopped making her figures? lol now that would be stupid. You cant erase someone. But I mean Im just surprised Hasbro even made a figure...do they still do that? you know make toys hah.

Antonio from NJ

I hear you but to that point... Pedro compared the practice of keeping children in caged detention centers with children being held in camps and detention centers. That is a historically appropriate comparison. Agree with it or not it has academic basis. Comparing yourself (on a major social media platform) being heavily criticized for political leaning to Jews being dragged into the street and beaten in Nazi Germany is historically inaccurate comparison. She's not censurde, she still has a platform to voice her opinion - she is not silenced. Her experience is nowhere near the experience she was drawing parallels to. Agree with her opinion or pedros or dont - but at least acknowledge the difference and the academic/historical validity of these comparisons. And let's not forget she 99% signed a Code of Conduct clause in her contract w Disney, and, if so, likely violated it.

Adam Taylor

Agreed. I know Jimmy has said one good thing about their loss of connection with LFL was being free to be more open and truthful, but I hope they don’t put their foot in it. No more G&G interviews please!

Antonio from NJ

Hah i like that last quote... My dad always said everyone has a right to an opinion, that doesnt mean every opinion is right.

Antonio from NJ

but you arent done with RFR...this is Hotel RFR you can check out but you can never leave haha

Laserpants81

Yeah, I dunno. I love RFR but I really am done with Star Wars, so what’s the point of a Star Wars podcast? 😞

Peter Beisser

Hey, how about them 76ers! (Steering clear of this one.) 😅

Jeff Ulicny

The articles I've read said she was fired for her views, but I didn't see anything anywhere about her violating a social media policy. I have to abide by a social media policy for my current job. Am I to understand that the biggest entertainment company on the planet doesn't have a social media policy? There is a simple solution here. Jimmy, I believe you've mentioned it in the past. Social Media policy kicks in once you're signed.

Nathan Wenzel

Thanks for taking on this topic with class RFR. I sent a voice mail in. I used the main RFR line. Hope that works too. Either way you guys are true professionals

Melissa McGuire

I have dearly loved the entire cast of The Mandalorian. This show has made Star Wars fun again for me after the ST. Cara Dune is part of what I’ve loved about it. I remember when I learned that Jon had written the part for Gena, even crafting her first name, Cara, out of Gena’s last name, Carano. It’s probably a small chance but I will hold out hope that one day we get to see Gena as Marshall Dune again.

w. greg simmons

Can't get through on to the voicemail lol... I think this will be an interesting, and yes - hot button - show. A really divisive topic. But in the disney era, what else is new (at least ratchted up to this level)... My question : WWGLD? What would George Lucas do. Can't help but think of him and this hypothetical question. Bet he can breathe a sigh of relief that he doesn't have to deal with it or all the social media drama (for years now)... I'll tune in to every RFR show and continue to be a patreon but as far as disney star wars goes... I think it may be time for me to take break. The divisiveness along with the hypocrisy of lucasfilm and Disney is disgusting.

Matthew Dillingham

Please don’t replace her. Kill the character instead.

Steven M DuBrey

Recast and move on. The characters and the actors need to be separated in Star Wars. How many Howard Starks did we have in the MCU? Cara Dune is a part of the story. I’m sure the action figure cancellation is a contractually obligated forfeiture of likeness rights and/or royalties. As for her comments/opinions, obviously she’s not the sharpest tack in the box.

Sean W. from Warsaw

I know, man! Every time I think the fandom is united again after the TLJ fiasco, it gets divided again.... :(

Sean W. from Warsaw

Agreed. I think this is gonna backfire really badly. Maybe worse than anything we've seen from Disney Lucasfilm so far....

Sean W. from Warsaw

I deeply appreciate you guys taking this hot topic on. Like Nate said, you guys have class! Now if I could just get my phone message through.... Keeps giving me a busy signal....

Sean W. from Warsaw

Yet so heartbreaking now.... With Jon's clout, who knows? He might be able to put certain people at LFL straight over this fiasco.

Sean W. from Warsaw

Are the RFR lines still open for calls? I can't get through.

Sean W. from Warsaw

I'm not well versed in a lot of this stuff, so all I'll say in this forum right here is: Ben Shapiro covered this topic on his podcast on Youtube extremely well and can't recommend him enough. Also, the best part of that is that Gina was just hired by him! She's gonna do her own movie now! Anyways, hope this helps. His show really put things in perspective for me on this confusing topic, for sure.

Sean W. from Warsaw

Well, I still can't get through on the hotline. So, I'll leave my comment here. Like I said above, I think this whole fiasco is gonna bite LFL in the butt. I think Cara Dune is a good character and the actress has a good following. I was anxious to see where she would go next with her character. Now I'm not sure where my relationship with LFL even stands.... Too much politics anymore. As for whether they should get rid of her character or not, I'm kinda in the middle. I feel invested in the character, but it would be awkward to have her just replaced by another actress just as much as it would be awkward to see her character just disappear. I don't know.... I definitely don't like the idea of her character dying offscreen. Too distasteful. Maybe, if they're set to keep the character around, have her exploits mentioned now and again so that when she shows up again she will still have been "around"...? I'm just confused and hurt. No one should be fired for expressing themselves.

Sean W. from Warsaw

I'm trying to keep LFL separate from the stories they make, but at this point it's very hard. I really love The Mandalorian, but...I just don't know how it's gonna be for Season 3 and everything else coming. Or even on rewatches of seasons 1 and 2. So unfortunate.... Hope this passes and we can get back to what makes SW great! I have a Q and A coming up and that's been helping to keep me focused on the good stuff, at least!

Paul M

It makes me sad. Just as the Star Wars community was coming together, LFL sticks its foot in things again. Now everyone is fighting and arguing... again. Agree with her post or don't. There have been many posts from both political sides from LFL employees and the hand of justice hasn't wacked a lot of them. If you do it to one, hold everyone to the same standard, and for God's sake stop kicking the fandom by giving it new reasons to divide itself. They were doing so well. We were just starting to come together over Mandalorian. It's just so so sad. My kids are both teens, and they are angry about it. They loved her character, and they have grown up with social media so posts don't hit them as hard as they do adults. From what they've said, their friends are angry at LFL as well. Not a good sign.

Charles Watson

Star Wars happened a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. I enjoy the escapism. Now because of this firing, I will enjoy the Mandalorian episodes less because when I see Cara Dune all I will think about is this controversy. I wish she wasn't fired. There should be a clear social media policy for everyone at LFL and it should be applied evenly. This lessens my enjoyment of Star Wars because it takes me out of the universe and back to real life.

Alex W.

Is there a different number to call? I've tried many times over the past day and it's always busy!

Ian savage

Hey “A M” hit me up on messenger

Pete Bowers

And now there’s rumours that the Rian Johnson trilogy is a go. That’s sure to bring everyone together!

Jason Becker

I wonder what Kathy Kennedy’s role in Gina’s firing was. Defender or fully on board with the firing? Interesting since Kathy started her career as assistant to GL’s filmmaker friend John Milius, notable conservative and NRA board member, whose daughter directed a recent pro-Trump documentary.

Josh Carter

I think she should have been fired for her acting. That was more than enough for me. I liked the character in season 1, but in season 2 it was made evident that she was not on the cast for her acting skills. I mean... Bill Burr had an emmy moment in season 2, and Gina Karano only made me cringe, and cringe, and cringe again.

Rebel Force Radio

Thanks to everyone who weighed in and called. We used a few of the voicemails from you. Feel free to keep the civil conversation going here on this thread. I appreciate everyone treating each other respectfully.

Jason Quattrone

Exactly my thoughts. I'd rather the guys just announce it in the news and move on. The show is doing great now. Why risk it at this point?

Evan Flax

This was a great episode...it's cool to hear more insight into Jason's political beliefs. My man called them ' a Mob' 😂. That is funny as hell.

Bolder Boulder

This situation was the last straw for me. I can’t shake the feeling that Kennedy’s Star Wars isn’t for Star Wars fans. I can’t bring myself to get hype about the future of Disney’s SW, so I have checked out 😔 I was looking forward to some of the stuff Jon and Dave had in store, but I can’t give my money to a Lucasfilm that doesn’t like the fans. I have a lot of respect for Jon and Dave, they were trying to re-unite the fandom, and create a story people could get behind again! But, Lucasfilm execs sabotaged it all. Sad

Javier Solorzano

I don't think it's so much about Jason's political belief..... As an issue of fairness and blackballing people for their beliefs. If youve listened long enough you definitely pick up that Jason has a strong sense of fairness & right and wrong
