Welcome to this week's RFR Early Bird release!

A new promo video gave us a brief glimpse at the new “real” lightsaber being developed by Disney Parks. We review the history of Lightsaber toys and share a few saber stories of our own. Speaking of Disney, the prices for a stay at their new STAR WARS hotel have been released and we marvel at the sky high prices for a two-day stay. We look at blogs from the official Star Wars website which attempt to explain The Emperor’s contingency plan and the purpose of Snoke, we remember Film author J.W. Rinzler with a couple of highlights from our conversations with him, actress Indira Varma provides an OBI-WAN KENOBI update, and we look at the relationship between Boba Fett and his fellow Clone Troopers. Plus, Ted Lasso and Harrison Ford featured on Star Wars In Pop Culture.

Excellent! Can’t wait to listen.

I was losing it at the Snoke = Hugh Hefner stuff LOL. He reminded me of a Hefner/Goldmember from Austin Powers hybrid. He wanted Rey to swim in the grotto, LOL.

Brian Koehler

Jimmy's whistling sound effects in this episode have me rolling on the floor 😂

Peter Beisser

Had the Galactic Starcruiser chat with the wife tonight. Both realized it's not worth it to us. When things go back to normal (ish), we said we'll visit Japan for the first time. Probably could do it cheaper. And it'll feel more like a connection with George's inspiration than the experience at Disney. But all the power to those who are excited for it. 🤘🏻

David Grunert

Loved it great listen as always thanks Jason and Jimmy

Jeff Rysinski

Another awesome episode! The DJ/Snoke talk had me cracking up! Thanks for the laughs

As a kid i used to have the Electronic Droid Sith Attack game. It came with a sith droid that shoots discs that you had to reflect with a lightsaber. Also it made horrible sounds but it was fun xD. But the hilt of that lightsaber was so detailed and nice that i kept it without the blade. It felt like a real saber and i just imagined the blade haha. https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Episode-Electronic-Attack/dp/B00000IWG2

Great listen at work today guys. All the talk about the lightsabers brought back memories of me and my brother beating the living hell out of each other when we were young with our toy sabers. In our 30’s now and I think we’d still do that.

Blake Weaver

I don’t think there could be a greater set of minds then Disney imagineers to create what they did. That group have the ability to not only create but to think outside the box also which is a Disney must.

I actually kinda appreciated the Snoke blog and the Contingency stuff. I've always been a fan of Dark Empire and it always seemed odd to think, as some do, that the great mastermind of backup plans, the Emperor himself, would not have been able to use cloning tech and combine it with the Force rituals to have a backup for himself in case he bit the dust. While I used to have problems with the whole character of Snoke himself, I've kinda come around on him. I think I really dig the idea of a weird experiment that makes him this abomination no one had ever made before. Makes him unique, in that way. And I think it works in the story: The Emperor, in his vulnerable state after death, would still hold onto what was left of his empire--but wouldn't want to reveal himself as himself. He would instead use a proxy. Yeah, the behind the scenes stuff is clunky. But that's the creative process at work. Lucas had to deal with it on many occasions, too. I don't think it kills the mythology. The Emperor/Snoke stuff actually expands on it in some interesting ways. If you give it a chance and just have fun with it, it's surprisingly enjoyable!

The whole thing with snoke I just have a hard time wrapping my head around. After listening to RFR today I get it but I still don’t. Like how did he STILL have force powers? After attempts to put the emperors essence in him the powers lingered? Which kinda goes against the whole thing with him not being good enough to be his vessel. I don’t know man I think it’s all to convoluted. But I even brought up to j-Mac on his post for best of Patreon your thoughts on how Rey is a skywalker. While the sequels still continue to befuddle me it’s fans like you that give me shades of light in the madness. Even when Lucasfilm can’t.

The Secret History of Star Wars is the best book and the audiobook is amazing! If it wasn't for you guys I would have never found that book!

Jeff Holland

Loved the reminiscing about JW Rinzler. His final book “Howard Kazanjian: A Producer's Life” comes out 9/14/21. I’m definitely getting that! I also noticed the call he got from his doctor during the RFR interview. Ugh. Gut punch. RIP JW Rinzler. F@&$ Cancer.

Antonio from NJ

Rip jw rinzler, his books were massively important. Jmac your comic book guy had me dying. You gotta do a segment where you read some mean tweets you guys get in all the different voices you guys do. And how hasnt there been a south park episode where the kiss play star wars and make some kid w a stutter be dj.

Eric from Phoenix

We discussed going to Celebration Japan but just couldn't swing it at the time. We wish we would've went. Our one Star Wars buddy (Voldemort) went and he loved it. I tried rationalizing the cost: two tickets to Hollywood Studios, all meals paid for, entertainment. But event with that it is still really pricey for two people. Ughhhh

Eric from Phoenix

It's interesting. I thought the Emperor was using Snoke like a puppet. So the Emperor was using the force and sending it through Snoke. Kind of a combination of a palantiri (Lord of the Rings) and a puppet. Not sure why or how....

Eric from Phoenix

Great show guys! A couple of comments / thoughts: 1) Metal plate in head " They had to replace my metal plate with a plastic one. Every time Catherine would rev up the microwave, I'd wet my pants and forget who I was for a couple of hours". I love the Vacation movies! 2) Lightsabers - We never had any of the Kenner ones when we were kids (played with friend's) but we totally played with wrapping paper tubes. I still do this today after my wife wraps the Christmas presents. JMac's sound effect was spot on ;). 3) Master Replicas - We attended Celebration 4 and I don't think Master Replicas actually had a booth in the vendor hall. Or maybe it was one of the other big vendors? I only remember this because my wife and I got a Star Wars photo done and that vendor was supposed to be next to Master Replicas but it was nothing but open space. Sucked for the photo vendor as they didn't have great foot traffic. 4) Snoke = Heffner? lol.

Sean W. from Warsaw

Blake, thanks so much for the kind comments, man. Always appreciated. :) But to both you and Eric: Yeah, there's still all these weird questions about Snoke. It's why I had had problems with him for so long. But I actually see it as Snoke was a bioengineered being of some sort that probably never happened before; a being who was created with its own will, mind, intelligence, etc--but who had the Force. Not too different from the clones. But may be Snoke was one that was to be used as both a template and a vessel, and when that went awry he was used as a proxy. It makes more sense to me that he would be the by-product of Palpatine's tampering with cloning technology to create new life in a lab that are abominations and mockeries of what's good. Sith secrets and such. If you can make clone armies from one guy who can think independently for themselves and have at least an element of the Force (as Yoda taught them in that first CW episode), why couldn't there be some dark side effort that finally got it right? All of these questions make Snoke a very interesting subject that shows how mysterious he is and the Force, as well as the mysteries as to what the dark side and the Sith are really capable of, or at least what Palpatine figured out. And it enriches what seems to be being built up in the Bad Batch.

In my best written DJ impression Thhhannnks Jason and Jimmy. RFR always reinvigorates my love of Star Wars. Keep up the amazing work!!!

RobO from ChicagO

Little younger than you Jimmy, but this made me remember going to Toys R Us with my cousin and Grandma. We didn’t hVe much money growing up, but we would go to TOys R us at least once a week, she would just let us go run around and do whatever we wanted. The employees hated us. We broke so many lightsabers battling in the store.

Jacob Conti

Sometimes when I'm in meetings at work or on the phone rather than hear what the person is saying I swear I hear the little lightsaber whistle Jimmy was making throughout the episode 🤣

Eric from Phoenix

Never really came out an said it. We would love to go to Japan some day :). Much easier flight now that we live in the SW.

Rebel Force Radio

Master Replicas pulled out of celebration at the 11th hour but still had the bash at Henson Studios. It served as a farewell MR party.

Alan Wills

As a big football fan myself, I loved Jason and Jimmy talking about Ted Lasso, which I’m also really enjoying. I had to laugh out loud at Jimmy’s comment about American actors putting on British accents though as I think they are actually British actors talking in mostly their own accents. They certainly sound authentic to me anyway 😂😂😂. Maybe the bloke that plays JamieTart is putting on a Mancunian accent, but most of the accents are from the South East of England where Richmond in Surrey is located. Keep up the great work Jason and Jimmy. You never fail to make me chuckle 😂😂😂

Eric from Phoenix

Thanks JMac, glad I wasn’t crazy. I remember being so disappointed they weren’t there as they made great products.

Fettmatic

Outstanding show, as usual.

Sean W. from Warsaw

Now, here's what has never made sense for me in the contingency plan. Why would the Emperor order the self-destruction of the Empire if he died...?! Especially if he knew he would still be around to lead it? Granted, he tried to eliminate the Rebel Alliance, too. But...what would he have left to control in the end when he came back...? Operation Cinder was essentially a scorched earth policy in defeat. Does anyone else have any idea how this works well for him?
