The RFR Early Bird delivers!

Before the George Lucas/Dave Filoni-produced series, animation producer Genndy Tartakovsky created two seasons of CLONE WARS shorts to bridge the gap between STAR WARS Episodes II and III. Now available on Disney+, Genndy's microseries introduced new characters and concepts to the prequel era. We look back at this series with RFR Patreon VIP Matt Rashid who leads the discussion. Talented actor Michael K. Williams ("The Wire") tragically passed away this week and we look at his SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY role that never made it to the final film. We review the new trailer for STAR WARS LEGO: Terrifying Tales, and listen to new STAR WARS pop culture references from SUPERGIRL and at the racetrack.

Excited for this week's episode! Btw, happy belated birthday to you, Jason! I know you probably got this a lot over the past week, but you truly bring an awesome flavor to RFR. Thank you for all the time, work, and research you pour into making RFR a top tier Star Wars show.

This series was amazingly animated.....it was dynamic & undeniably innovative. I've always suspected THAT was why GL cancelled it....& "took it over".....to be in control. I think GL was on some level threatened by Tartakovsky because GL wasn't the creator.....it was Tartakovsky (who was employed by GL), who was clearly the CREATOR. GL suffocated it in the crib & "PRESTO" Lucasfilm SW animation was born !!!!

Peter Beisser

RIP Omar (for all "The Wire" fans.) He would have been a menacing Dryden Vos. Miller and Lord's "Solo" could have been a breath of fresh air if Lucasfilm took a shot.

Kent Beard

Graballa the Hutt is the same voice actor as Master Shake from Aqua Teen Hunger Force!! Good stuff!

When CW continued in 3d CGI the style of the Ganndy amination I was very happy. It wasn't immediately as stylish, but sinte TCW is non Legends I'm ahppy taht still the art direction has some influence still into The Bad Batch!

Genndy creates amazing animation! This was great to listen too. I’m a big fan of Genndy’s work. I recommend checking out a recent series here worked on called Primal.

Blake Weaver

Awesome show guys. What a fun discussion. I love the deep dives. And Matt you did a great job my man it was great to hear you on the main show.

Brian Koehler

Jason with the "The Elsewhere Menace" in a Ewan McGregor impression had me cracking up 😂

Jeff Holland

Great show fellas! Cool hearing Matt Rashid on the RFR weekly show. I think after listening to this show I'm gonna have to go down in my archives and dust off my CW microseries DVDs and watch them. I know, I know, I can watch them online. But I equate watching something on physical media equal to "Back in my day..." LOL!

Boy do I love hearing JAT chime in what a wholesome great guy. I love the guestsJason and Jimmy are able to bring in and I’m glad you put his audio on after all the great discussion you had earlier in the episode. Great show! I really love the old animated clone wars I’m so happy you guys revisited it! I remember it was the first show I put on my IPod Video way back when haha the ARC TROOPERS episode I must have watched fifty times!

Brian Walters

Thanks for the shout-out in the Star Wars in pop culture segment!

I always enjoyed the Gendy series. I had it stuck in my brain that we saw Anakin get his eye scar in the series, nope. I must have read the comic back in the day and somehow I stuck that battle with Asajj in series 2.

RobO from ChicagO

Great episode! Haven’t watched the Gendy series since they first aired. Going to have to rewatch now

Jared Cantor

Congratulations Matt! Moving up to the big league now.

Peter Beisser

Yup. Like watching you're favorite farm team player taking 100 mile an hour pitches in the bigs and knocking 'em out. I was rooting for you Matt. Nice job.

Whenever Genndy is mentioned I'm sad that noone mentions his own original post CW series SymBionic Titan which I really enjoyed. It had much in common with Star Wars though the main theme was Mecha VS Monster fights and some high school teen drama.

Also I was SO sold on Genndys CW from the start. The first (or was it the second?) episode with the Arc-troopers, almost entirely without dialogue. They were SO cool!

I actually prefer physical media, myself. I look forward to the day all the Mando stuff is on home video. There's something more tactile and a true sense of ownership to having something to call your own, as opposed to basically having digital media on lown. Plus, you never know, anymore. If something ever happens to streaming, boom! All gone. Hold onto those precious discs, man!

Great job Matt! I love the original clone wars series. So over the top but so much fun. I loved how the last episode led into the opening crawl of ROTS. You did great on the regular weekly show! Genndy is such a talented guy. Really liked a bunch of the animation series he’s worked on. Randomly came across Primal and really liked it. Not kid friendly but almost no dialogue and it’s awesome. Reminds me of a modern version of some of the Hanna Barbara cartoons from the 60’s/70’s. At least from a style standpoint.
