Who remembers THUMB WARS? It was a weird "Thumbmation" STAR WARS parody from the late nineties. RFR V.I.P. Mark Groundrunner does and he reminds Jimmy Mac about the funky animated specials. Mark talks about growing up a STAR WARS fan in the eighties, working at a movie theater when THE PHANTOM MENACE was released and competing against his wife in Star Wars trivia. Plus, we discuss the shock of Han Solo's death in THE FORCE AWAKENS and more.

Thanks Jimmy for the URL podcast tip. Great Q and A as always.

Great job Mark awesome convo. Really enjoyed hearing about your Star Wars past. And I loved the baseball radio talk. Anytime there’s a day game I can’t catch because I’m working I’ll stream the radio broadcast for my Miami Marlins. Something really special about baseball on the radio over other sports.

Hah great episode so far mark (haven't finished just yet). And Jordan Schlansky is one of the best straight men. He's only broken character once in the skits. Apparently he's the completely opposite outside the schtick hah love it.

Uncle Ob1

Great episode! Awesome convo. Keep up all the great work, love these Q&A.

Marc Groundrunner

Thank you! Baseball and RFR for the radio broadcast win 🥇. Listening to ball games on the radio is a special pastime (especially listening to my Giants 😄)

Marc Groundrunner

HUGE HONOR RFR! Thank you for letting me join this week, was super nervous but Jimmy makes it all radio magic 🤩💯👍🏻

Great job man, think 🤔 we have a new contender... The Matts and Company better watch out hah

On Android I recommend the player FM app, which works with Patreon RSS feeds. A great show and it's always nice to hear from someone new

Is Salacious B. Crumb the new Insult Dog?

I saw TFA at the Big Newport! Awesome screen. They had even upgraded to reclining seats. I watched ROTJ with a group of campers under a tent outside the theater the night before. I didn’t actually camp out but my friend and his friends were keeping the tradition alive! Not a bad plan too since we were able to score even better showtimes from some generous, non-scalping passersby who had extra Thursday-night tickets, which not all the campers had.

Marc Groundrunner

Yeah I’ve seen on-lime how they remodeled the screen. Sad to see the red curtain gone now. I’ll have to make a movie trip next time we go to South Cal

Great job Marc and Jimmy! Fun discussion and I loved hearing about the old school theater experience. I had that for the TPM and got to see it at the River Hills theater in downtown Des Moines. Huge screen and auditorium. Sadly, it was torn down in the early 2000’s to make room for a new convention center. Saw the other two prequels at Merle Hay cinema. At the time, it was the only THX certified theater in the Des Moines area. Huge screen and probably seater around 1000. The seats were just awful though…. I loved hearing how your dad edited movies to make them more kid friendly. This totally reminded me of The Goldbergs episode where Adam is excited to show his dad and pops Die Hard. However, this was a network TV appropriate version. When John McClane utters his famous line it comes out as “Yippie kia ay melon farmer”. Of course the melon farmer line is totally off from a voice perspective and sound quality. So funny.

Great episode as always! So fun to reminisce about the days of waiting and yearning for new Star Wars. For Android, I recommend Podcast Republic as a pod catcher. The Patreon custom feed works with that just fine. I've tried other pod catchers but keep coming back to PR. There is even support for streaming radio stations too. https://www.podcastrepublic.net/

Hey guys! Great episode but I did want to say that I use Castbox on Android and was able to get my RSS link to work with it. Maybe it was a new update but it works just like Jimmy said with apple podcasts, just copy your RSS link and just paste it into the search bar. Hope this helped someone!

Ziro the Hutt puppet is definitely going to be the next guest on RFR! Joe beat me to it but I got the right spelling at least. 😏 Great job Marc.

Matt Rashid

Marc- great show! thanks for pointing out that Han’s death in TFA is so brutal. For me, it ruined that movie from day one. There are other really good things about it, but they can’t overcome that scene for me, personally.

Jeff Holland

Great first show Marc! And no you weren’t the only RFR member who didn’t know how to get the RFR RSS feed.

Just caught up with this one. Great show! Marc it was wonderful to hear from you. I feel sympatico. We would get along. I was born in the 80s and remember the prequel opening nights with fond memories as well. I also miss the old days of standing in lines. Reserved seating has really taken away something special about opening night movies. I also have little kids and we live in LA, but I'm from Austin! Also with the sequel trilogy music - I think John Williams wrote some beautiful themes. Namely, the Rey theme and the We Go Together theme in Ep9, but I agree there really wasn't those epic music moments like we got in Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars, and Battle of the Heroes. It might be the movies but it also might be that John Williams is 90 years old
