From the red carpet to inside convention halls, STAR WARS celebrities are always asked for their signatures by hardcore fans. RFR V.I.P. Josh from Florida is a long-time RFR listener as well as a seasoned STAR WARS autograph collector. On this episode of the Q&A, we show off our favorite STAR WARS autographed memorabilia and share the stories behind acquiring them. Plus, we look at the business of autograph signing and the increases in cost with price lists from conventions going back 20+ years ago.

Cool, I was good with $15 - $20 back at CIII. I haven't paid for an autograph since.

Great discussion Jimmy and Josh!! I think I've only gotten one autograph at a Star Wars Celebration and have mostly gotten pictures. At Celebration you have to make choices on what you want to do and how much money you want to spend so if we do anything it is a picture. I did get a bunch of autographs at a convention called Alpha Con in Omaha, NE in 2001. This convention was probably 5 to 10 years ahead of it's time and didn't get enough marketing out to attract enough of a crowd. They had a ton of Star Wars actors there and we got autographs from Warrick Davis, Anthony Daniels, Richard LeParmentier, Michael Sheard, Michonne Bourriague and Femi Taylor. The actors were all very nice and easily accessible. We spent a bunch of time just sitting there and talking to Michael Sheard. Now I just need to find the autographs in our storage unit :)

Great episode. Was at Star Wars weekend with my then 7 yo son in 2014. Didn't get there early enough to have an autograph 'fast pass' Was getting late in the day, and we were walking past the old American Idol experience, saw somebody official looking at the door so asked them what was going on inside. He said Peter Mayhew was inside signing autographs, and there was no line. Imagine my excitement! Got a great pic of my son & I with Peter and an autograph. Please had a nice chat, what a great bloke. Sent the pic to Star Wars Insider, and it was featured in the Bounty Hunters section :)

Great topic and great conversation! Collecting autographs hasn’t been a big part of my fandom (aside from a few at Star Wars Weekends in 2000), but that made it great to listen to and learn so much of the history. Thanks, guys!

Welcome to the RFR VIP Lounge, Josh! Great 1st episode. Loved hearing the autograph stories from both you and JMac. And I always love hearing the JMac-lost-his-son-at-SWC story. So much touch base on in this Q&A - a) hearing JMac reference Dan Gladden - I actually remember him. OF for the SF Giants. One of the reasons I remember him is because I collected baseball cards from about 1987- mid/late 1990s; b)I too sent baseball cards in the mail. Not sure where I got players (just baseball) mailing addresses (maybe it was Beckett's price guide or CCP (Current Card Prices)?) Anyways, the only I ever tried to mail away was my fav baseball player of all time - Mike Schmidt. And he signed my card and returned it to me way back when; c) funny you say you lived near the NY Mets florida training facility. I live near (what used to be their AAA farm team - the Tidewater Tides (now Norfolk Tides; also no longer affilated with the Mets). I got TONS of autographs from Tides players. My 2nd fav MLB player of all time is Gregg Jefferies. I got SO many autographs from him. He eventually remembered me/my face and eventually asked if I was tired of getting his autograph. (Answer: no!). I sold almost all o baseball card collection but I still have all my Schmidts and Jefferies' cards; d) great story about Dexter Jettser actor/voice actor! So cool that he actually followed with you after so many years. Most people would have just thrown your letter/request away; e) I have some SW autographs (got the CW trio - Ashley, JAT and Matt at ICCC last year as well as Ian McD.) The only cool autograph story I have is from SWC in 2012. I got Jeremy Bulloch's autograph - very nice man. I had him sign the "Arrival of the Bounty Hunters" poster (that I bought through the SW fanclub (I think)) and he mentioned to me that he had never seen that poster before. Which I thought was kind of cool. Again, great 1st Q&A Josh!
