Turtles and STAR WARS. Bet you didn't think for a second that there's a connection. You'll be surprised at some of the info RFR V.I.P. Cris "Turtle Wars" Hagen delivers in this episode. Cris has been studying turtles of the world since he was 4 years old and was instrumental in the formation of the Turtle Survival Center (TSC) in South Carolina. Find out which STAR WARS acting legend is a big supporter of turtles and where you can find turtles in-universe. Faster, more intense is NOT part of this conversation! Plus, we talk AHSOKA, live music, the return of STAR WARS physical home video releases, respect for the older STAR WARS fan and more!

I’m so excited for this Q&A!!

Brian Robinson

I have a friend that works with the sea turtles a bunch in Surf City, NC.

Kyle Burress

Such a great Q&A! I loved hearing about all of the turtle work you're doing and makes me regret that I didn't go into something in that type of field as I was considering doing in college. Definitely loved the Deer Creek reference as I'm an Indy resident and that's what us long-time concert goers still refer to it as! Look forward to seeing you on again!

Turtle Wars

Thanks Kyle! Generally speaking, I think it’s never too late to get involved with something in life that you would like to do.

Turtle Wars

Ah yes, there is a well known sea turtle rescue center there that is a common place for people to do internships.

Joe Dallas

Very cool - Turtles and Rock and Hot Rods!! Oh yeah!

RobO from ChicagO

About half way through show… I always had a fondness for turtles/tortoises growing up. Going to the Galápagos Islands is on my bucket list to see those massive dinosaurs.

Maddie G

Who knew that there was a Star Wars connection with turtles? Coincidentally, I log in to work this morning and on the company page the first article is ‘from toilets to turtles’ (I work for a water company, apparently we rescue turtles from the sewer sometimes) - what a coincidence! Great job Cris, I could listen to you talk about turtles all day!

Tyler Page

Really good listen! Been wanting to know what Turtle Wars meant for a while. . . I like turtles

Maddie G

You may like turtles but are you turtley enough for the turtle club? (Here’s me hoping you understand that reference)

Windows!

I love THE JASONS too Turtle Wars . Sadly the never come up to the northeast so I can see them . Great listen

Turtle Wars

That will be close to the title of my autobiography some day…’Turtles, Drugs, and Rock & Roll’.

Turtle Wars

That one is still on my bucket list too. I’ve been to many remote locations around the world but the closest I’ve been to Galapagos was the Peruvian Amazon.

Turtle Wars

Thanks Maddie! Yes, turtles and other reptiles turn up in some interesting places at times. I can talk about turtles and Star Wars all day, any day!

Turtle Wars

I don’t think I know this reference. But I remember the ‘I like turtles’ kid that was featured on Tosh.O many years ago.

Turtle Wars

They are definitely a fun band to see live. They rarely come to the southeast either, but I have seen them live and recorded their shows a couple of times. They kind of bring me back to some of those early GWAR days, but without all of the fake blood and other fluids.

Tyler Page

Hahaha unfortunately I do! Pretty sure Barry made me watch it a while back, might’ve been someone else though.

Eric from Phoenix

Great discussion guys! I got my Blue Snaggletooth for $3.50 back in the early 90’s. I think Jimmy and I talk about it in my first Q and A. Cool that you lived in Phoenix! You would be shocked by how much it’s grown. I live in the east valley and most of this was farm land until the last 20 years. When you guys were talking I totally thought of Morla from the Never-ending Story movie (huge turtle creature). Lol. Jimmy with the Doc Brown hair? I about spit out my water. I’m hair challenged so no Doc Brown for me. Looks like there’s a drink beer and save turtles opportunity on the turtle website. That is pretty cool! Just need to figure out how to get Peter, Jimmy and Chris there to talk the Wars!

Turtle Wars

Wow, incredible deal on the Blue Snag! I lived in Phoenix from 79 to early 84. We lived near Camelback mountain. I do get back there now and then. We have our international turtle biology and conservation symposium every August and Tucson is a city on our regular rotation. It was held in Tucson last year and I flew in a couple of days early so I could catch The Surfrajettes and Messer Chups at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix. As soon as I landed I went driving around to find some street tacos. I also often attend a different turtle organization’s conference that is held every November in Phoenix (well Mesa to be exact). And yes, you are correct, things have changed a lot over the decades. I thought Morla was very cool when I saw the Neverending Story. Drink Beer Save Turtles is an event we hold all over the U.S. We partner with local breweries and they sometimes brew a turtle themed beer. They are education/outreach and fundraising events. We usually bring live turtles to these events. There is a Facebook page just for the DBST events. Check it out if you’re interested in attending any of these.

Eric from Phoenix

You’ll have to let me know the next time you’ll be in town. Would love to grab a beer with you. I’m guessing Justin (RFR fan / Patreon member) would be able to join too.

Jeff Holland

Great first Q&A, Turtle Wars! Fascinating conversation!

Sean W. from Warsaw

Just started listening. About 20 minutes in right now. Welcome aboard the Q and A, man! Sorry I'm late to replying but life is like that. Looking forward to catching the whole thing. Very intrigued by everything people have said about your first go!

Brian Robinson

Adrianne Curry is pretty active on Facebook. She is remarried, being a housewife in Colorado, I believe. She has settled down, but interacts on FB Live quite a bit and she's opinionated after getting out of Hollywood.

Todd “Suds” Sedlacek

Great show Cris! I was riveted from start to finish. Can’t wait to hear more from you!

Dr Jz

What a great show guys! Thank you !
