Early, even for the RFR Early Bird!

The next STAR WARS streaming series, THE ACOLYTE, is coming this summer. We discuss what we know about the story and listen to comments from showrunner Leslye Headland to find clues. Former MANDALORIAN actor Gina Carano made waves last week by revealing her lawsuit against Lucasfilm for wrongful termination. We listen to new comments from Gina explaining why she wants to move forward with litigation and the challenges she’s encountered since losing her gig. We also consider the future for the character Cara Dune and wonder if there is a chance Gina will return to the role. Could the character get recast with a new actor? We speculate! We also continue our search for the “new” Wilhelm Scream with fresh evidence gathered by the RFR Investigative Report Team. Plus, THE PHANTOM MENACE celebrates its 25th anniversary this year with a return to the theaters, STAR WARS kitchen items, Sith Lightning, STAR WARS in Pop Culture and more!

Nice and early, I love it! But will wait for the video. Thanks RFR!

Be interesting to hear the guys opinions on The Acolyte when I get a chance to listen tomorrow. Lot of signs don’t look too good; but then I spoke to Mike Quinn at a con and he said it’s the show he was most excited about - of the projects he worked on at least.

1st time joining. Long time listener also appreciate the early bird! Star Wars Numba 1!!!

Great episode. Awesome detective work from listener Anthony, his friend and Jimmy on the "new Wilhelm scream." I agreed with Jimmy's wisdom that at the end of the day there can't be a "new" Wilhelm scream. It's a one-of-a-kind sound that was created in a strange moment between director and voice actor, and spread in an organic, unexpected way. You can't force the scream!

I can believe that Bill Walton could have been the inspiration for Chewie. He reminds me of Chewie in this Sports Illustrated cover (which, to be fair, came out in Dec 1976, long after the role was cast). https://images.app.goo.gl/bP9k9ngfyLQQKwkZ6

Great episode. Even before the end I thought Jason was really channelling Costanza. Quick question, is there a reason several of the Bad Batch After Shows from season 2 are missing from the feeds? It skips from the premiere to Retrieval in my patreon feed, and from Solitary Clone to Retrieval in the public feed.

Nothing I've heard from anyone involved with the show has made me feel it will be anything other than a deconstructionist disaster. Headland's remarks on the show this week didn't do anything to help that. It being only 50 years before TOM now, likely contradicting much of Plagueis (which should have been kept on with the new canon) makes me even more apprehensive.

Turtle Wars

I agree with Jason, recast, recast, recast. Keep the stories rolling as intended. An actor’s death or firing in real life should not mean a complete rewrite of what might have been a really good story for the character they were playing. No mortal should get to “own” a fictional character for eternity.

Gina f’d around and found out. I have zero sympathy for her. Also, the first image of Bill Walton from 1977 that pulls up is absolutely TEEN WOLF material!

Blake Weaver

Acolyte I don’t have any hope for. While I like the idea of the show the fact they’ve been spewing every single activist key word you can imagine in interviews usually doesn’t lead to anything that doesn’t split fans nowadays. Jason’s thoughts on Gina’s case are exactly what I’m thinking also. I saw her at megacon a few weeks ago and she’s as beautiful and sweet as could be. Finally met Tem Morrison at that con to and got his autograph. He’s as AWESOME in person as he is on screen!

Eric from Phoenix

Great show guys! You continue to handle the Gina stuff in a fair way. I’m pretty certain Bill Walton’s brain is baked so I have no confidence his story is accurate.

Peter Beisser

Speaking of recasts this week, let's not forget that JMac himself is the second Darren of this show. But as much as I loved Pete Nadel, not sure it would be here 17 plus years later without that switcheroo early on. (Man, where has the time gone?)

Pistol Pete

Does anyone know where to get these said Empire Magazines? I wanted the boba Fett one too a while back and no luck.

John Phillips

Disney Star Wars’ New Republic can be summed up by Pete Townsend “Meet the new boss/ Same as the old boss.”

Brian

Looking forward to The Acolyte. I’m always interested in seeing Star Wars from a new angle, so this idea appeals to me. Regarding Gina, I’m just not that sympathetic. I wish her the best, but she knew she was poking her employer in the eye with all of her social media posts and she kept doing it anyway, even after they asked her to stop. Now that things haven’t worked out for her she sounds like Gandhi, and wants to be a victim, but at the time she was a social media warrior, beating her chest. This is a life lesson for her. We all receive lessons throughout life. Hopefully she makes better decisions in the future.

Rebel Force Radio

Not just Disney era. Read the Thrawn Trilogy from the early 90s. The New Republic was strife with corruption, back stabbing, and indecision. Borsk Feylia even had Ackbar arrested in his quest for political power. Many parallels to what we see in Ahsoka.

RobO from ChicagO

Curly hairs on shower curtains, ol Palps knocking boots, this episode had it all!

Dylan McGee

I would love to see more seasons of BoBF! Probably the most rewatchable series for me. From the ethnography of the Tusken Raiders, to the Mando interlude, the climatic showdowns with Sarlaac and the Rancor—this series was so fun and inventive. Wish they’d get a chance to continue!

Trevor Hallam

I’m more excited for Acolyte now after hearing Headland’s comments. Definitely did not take her comments as they are going to go with the Jedi as being portrayed as bad guys and all that stuff. I think from what she said it seems like she has a little bit more Star Wars understanding than we give her credit for. She obviously knows Palps is pure evil. Think her comments on the last Jedi reflect and attitude that is a little bit more “it was a mistake.” At the end of the day, though it’s more Star Wars, and it potentially could be the best. Star Wars show so far. You never know!

Trevor Hallam

In the Darth Fagus novel, it talks about how they are searching for a right apprentice for Palpatine. I would not be surprised if left quotation “the acolyte” is some apprentice for him that ends up, turning away from the Sith, but at the end of the show ends up being killed by Palpatine or something.

Jeff Holland

Good show fellas. Finally getting around to listen to this. I’d be okay if there’s no more talk about Gina Carano. Never been a fan of hers. I liked her character and it had potential, but I won’t miss her character at all. Anyways, hope we can collectively as a fanbase move on. There’s a lot more SW stuff coming down the pipe that’s way more exciting! Onward and upward!
