Insecure artist disclaimer: If I get around to redrawing any of the comic, this page will be way up there. I don't like how the faces turned out.Anyway, now that Ruby's task is finished she has a moment to indulge in a little bit of less subtle flirtation with William as well as a bit of cheeky peeking. I don't have an issue with romantic subplots in fiction, but I do have a major one with it being the norm and it always being a driving force behind the narrative. It find it dull and lazy. That said, romance is a part of the human experience and so it's one with no shortage of material, which is the other reason the typical mainstage couping is so tedious. The assertive woman / flustered man pairing is not too far off the beaten path but I find it personally charming and I like placing it in the side narrative where I think it will work and not detract from other story elements. I think Purifier would be a much poorer tale if Tilly were also involved in some kind of generic, obligatory courtship while also battling her internal and external enemies. It just wouldn't mesh. Unlike William and Ruby, who probably will at some point.I went really overboard with the electronics detail in this last panel, but I wanted to get across the outrageous complexity of this vast analog machine. More about that on the next page.
